Title: Disney's Enchanted Christmas 2011
Post by: Anthony on September 30, 2011, 12:12:06 AM
We have a couple of topics discussing Duffy and Fantillusion but no dedicated Christmas 2011 topic it seems... so here we go! Please now keep all news and discussion of the upcoming season here!

Remember --- We have a special forum for personal Trip Planning (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=13) queries!

Duffy the Disney Bear will be arriving for character appearances and as part of the Dreams of Christmas add-on to Disney's Once Upon a Dream Parade. Disney's Fantillusion will return to the parade route, as will Mickey's Winter Wonderland at The Chaparral Theater, Father Christmas Village in Frontierland and Belle's Christmas Village in Fantasyland. A new show titled Princess Aurora's Christmas Wish will take place on the Central Plaza Stage.

"it's a small world" Celebration will also return to mark end-of-year celebrations for cultures around the world, while Santa Goofy will be meeting guests on Town Square and the Disney Princesses will be settling in to their warm new Princess Pavilion. No events whatsoever have been publicised for Walt Disney Studios Park...

On New Year's Eve, the parks will remain open until 1am with three fireworks shows bringing 2012 in with a bang over Disneyland Park, Walt Disney Studios Park and, for a second year, Lake Disney in Disney Village.

Apparently the Castle's lighting system will also be updated to new LED technology, capable of changing colour and brightness. Anyone know more about that?

Princess Aurora's Christmas Wish sounds like a nice addition. For the past few years the castle lighting has just been tacked onto the end of the final performance of whatever show's running on Central Plaza. Here's the press blurb:

QuotePrincess Aurora's Christmas Wish

From 7 November 2011 to 8 January 2012, a brand new "magical moment" awaits visitors in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, celebrating Christmas every day. As the Royal Court opens the ball, the three godmothers accompany Princess Aurora and Prince Philip as they enter, passing through a guard of honour. The princely couple waltz in the courtyard while the godmothers, distracted as ever, argue about the colour of the castle. They end up deciding to combine their power, and with a wave of their wands, transform the castle roofs into a shining myriad of lights.

And in keeping with tradition, Princess Aurora makes her Christmas wishes, bringing this magical moment to a close. It's an unmissable enchanted moment!

Venue: Central Plaza – Main Street, U.S.A. - Disneyland Park
Apparently the castle has brand new LED lights?

That sounds fabulous! I now understand their ability to change colour, I imagine the "icicles" will change from pink to blue with the swish of Flora and Merryweather's wands.

I'll be there from the 5th-9th December, and what I'm looking forward to most this year is Aurora's Christmas Wish! I can't wait to see how they play the Castle changing colours! Looks like it will be the last year to see Fantillusion though, a parade that's been running since my first ever DLRP trip, so will be sad to see it go. (Let's hope we get something even more spectacular for next year) Bring on the Christmas season!! :D

To buy a regular sized Duffy in WDW would cost you - $55 which converts to about €36.
His outfits are around $33 which converts to about €25.

I don't know how recent or accurate these prices are, though I found them on laughingplace.com.

It looks like the new lights are appearing on the castle already! And the columns with the princesses.

I was expecting them to repaint some of the frames to match the castle's new colour scheme, but never mind.

The best thing about staying in the Sequoia is putting your feet up next to the log fire in the bar after coming out of the cold.

Hi MissDisneyIsMagical and littlebitofpixie do you both live in the United Kingdom(and if you are which part of the United Kingdom are you from).

Here the bbc weather outlook for the UK from October 26 to 27 November 2011:
Sunday 23 October 2011 to Sunday 30 October 2011
Autumn leaves will be blowing
Low pressure will remain to the west of the United Kingdom for the week ahead, bringing unsettled conditions with rain or showers on most days.
A slow-moving weather front will bring heavy rain and strong winds to western areas to start the week. Eastern parts meanwhile will have another very mild but breezy day on Monday.
A band of rain will push eastwards overnight on Monday with some gusty winds. Rain will then fall across much of northern and eastern England along with most of Scotland. Showers will follow to the southwest of both England and Wales.
Wednesday will be a day of sunshine and showers, with the showers most frequent and heavy towards Wales and the southwest.
Pressure will then build across the country towards the end of the week with showers generally fading away. The winds will fall light so any overnight clear spells will allow a touch of frost in rural areas, along with some mist and fog patches.

Monday 31 October 2011 to Sunday 6 November 2011
Any fireworks for the first week of November?
Low pressure will remain to the northwest of the United Kingdom bringing a west to southwesterly wind. Showers or longer spells of rain will affect all areas at times, with rather windy conditions, particularly in the west. Temperatures are likely to be close to average for the week.

Sunday 6 November 2011 to Sunday 27 November 2011
Any sign of a change?
The weather is likely to remain typically changeable for much of November, with bands of rain moving across the UK from the west.
There will also be some drier and brighter interludes in between the rain bands. The winds are expected to be mostly from the south or west, which means temperatures should be around or slightly above normal for much of the period.
However, occasional north-westerly winds may bring somewhat colder air in at times.
Rainfall amounts for the whole of the UK across the period are likely to be near normal and sunshine amounts are likely be either near or below normal. Night frosts are expected at times, especially across the north of the UK and in sheltered rural areas where winds fall light.

So unless they change the info on the bbc weather monthly outlook(is unlikely the will change the info on the bbc weather outlook) does not look like that we as United Kingdom are  suppose to have snow(maybe it be cold and icy but there no change of snow.

I hope the weather stays similar to what you mentioned as although I do like the snow I can't stand going to work in it! Totally agree meph

Hi its a small world, I'm from kent in UK. And that sounds good for weather. However snow around the parks would look beautiful i'm sure! But where my son cant walk, I'm glad that chance of snow's unlikely. Pushing a buggy is hard work in the snow! Lol...
Meph the sequioa lodge is so cosy for winter months, love it! Plus looking forward to the view from hotel room it was gorgeous last time.
I like winter for DLP summer is too hot & busy for my liking!

Umm, bit soon to be sure. Weather forecasts are not an exact science and long-term ones are little more than rough guesses! When we went the forecast just the day before said no snow: but snow is what we woke up to on the first day!

In any case, if you are going mid November onwards, brace yourselves for cold. There's a good reason why they dress the CMs in enormous thick coats and big scarves from October onwards. You can expect averages temps to be at least a couple of degrees under what it will be in the south of the UK at the same time.

Yes never trust the weather man! I expect it too be very cold, & wet. So have got thick coats, wellies, gloves ect. Going to put layers on this time to keep warm.
We went in end november 2009 & no snow but very wet, cold & lots of hail lol. No matter what the weather is, aslong as your prepared it doesn't matter :) disney's one of those places it dont really matter lol.

More WDS-Christmas updates!
@InsideDLParis: Gold and red colours have replaced the decorations inside the famous shop Snowglobes...
//http://twitpic.com/79st74

@InsideDLParis: Also for the first time ever, a giant Christmas Tree has been placed on Frontlot (previously at the Christmas Market)
//http://twitpic.com/79srgy

And something more exiting, in my opinion... ;-)

I thought it was good that they added the tree in the front-lot. But what could they do to the rest of the studios to make them more expensively Christmasy? What do they do in Disney's Hollywood Studios in WDW?

They have generally awesome Hollywood style, glamorous decorations.

Also they have the Osborne family spectacle of dancing lights.

And an overlay of their parade (when they had the parade we now have).

Better, I guess, but it still looks like it's beckoning you inside a funeral parlour. Could they really not add a few red or teal baubles? The decorations outside the Studio Store also look better than usual, but you can really tell they're "merchandising" decorations rather than ones designed to actually beautify the park.

Luckily the makeover of Disney Studio 1 will always be awesome.

Discovered something potentially useful on the thermals front.  I got some for my DS from Primark and went to put them on him last night when we went to see fireworks.  Got them out of the packet (marked 5-6) and found they were massive!  Someone had put size 11-12 year old in the wrong packet and as they're the equivolent of a womans size 14-16 I now have two new thermal vests!  Think they're a only a couple of quid cheaper that the womens thermals but still every little helps!

Quote from: "alexguitar"I'll be there from the 5th-9th December, and what I'm looking forward to most this year is Aurora's Christmas Wish! :D

same dates as me  :D  where are you staying?

That is one depressing looking tree. Just something around the base would jazz it up a bit more.. right now it's just a green cone with very little on it sitting on concrete. Not very festive! I'd love for them to push the Christmas budget into Studios next year, DLP can easily survive on what it has this year, and then the whole resort can have a nice, rounded Christmas theme.. but we've been saying this for years..

Oh yeah, I've been meaning to ask this: What do you all think of the Christmas columns down Main Street. Do you prefer them or the white arches with the lights on that that they used to have before the 15th anniversary?

Personally I love them! To begin with after they first changed them from the arches, I didn't like them much but as time went on they grew on me!

With the arches there you don't get the clear view all the way down to the castle from the top of main street like you do with the columns, and that's a beautiful sight to see! :)

I think they've been good, but look really tired now. We need something new & different for our resort.

I hate them for various reasons:
I think the LED lights look cold and don't spread the warmth of the arches.
The princess theme goes back to 2004ish when some genius had the brillant idea to put the christmas tree in front of the castle and let the princesses conduct the Tree-Lightning-Ceremony. Now there is no more reason for the princess theme, besides, they look tacky.
And there is no way that LED Chandeliers with pictures of Disney's princesses fit a Victorian Street. I know that this doesn't matter anymore but it should.

I thought the decorations, the shows, in fact everying about it was wonderful, but it was my first Christmas visit so I have nothing to compare it with. It was thermals weather last week, but from what I hear, definately not as cold as last year.

That's a good point. Yeah, I miss the warmth that the arches had, too. The columns don't make me feel "Yeah, its Christmas!" But at the same time, the arches spoilt the view down Main Street.

I hope Tokyo Disneyland are enjoying them, now that they've got them.

I packed all sorts of warm clothing, but the weather this week was beautiful!
I didn't even have to wear my coat during the day, only on thursday when we left.

I thought christmas at DLP was wonderful, but for me it was also the first time.
Had an amazing time though :)

Does anyone know what the name of the CD is for the music they play down Main Street at Christmas? I think it was posted here before, but I can't remember which topic it was.

There is no actual CD, the music ist a collection from various American christmas CDs (like Arthur Fiedler, Bostom Pops etc.). You can find the titles, the performers and ways to obtain them (legally) here (//http://disneymusicloops.com/dlrp/dlrp-mainst-xmas.html). You can get most of the CDs relatively cheap on Amazon.com
