Were off end of November and as is the custom we watch all the videos from our previous visits, today Ive spent a good three hours going "Oh I really miss that". What do you really miss?
I want to put in a vote for the Christmas arches and also Le Vissionarium (sorry bout the spelling)
Chantilly coffee, really nice coffee with sweet cream on top. Haven't seen it the last few times we've been, but how I used to enjoy drinking it whilst waiting in the cold for the parade to start.
The smell of the DLH. When you get home and unpack your clothes you can still smell it.
Lastly, the feeling you get when you've just arrived and you go through the gates and walk down Main St.
i miss all of it =]
the rush you get on the rides.... the feeling you get watching the parade.... walking into main street on a morning and be dancing away to the music not careing what everyone else thinks of you because they are doing it too....
but i mostly i miss that good old feeling that comes of just plain being at disneyland =] a feeling that i just cant explain but im sure you all know what that feeling is when you think back on your trips there =]
Folks, I think the honourable RC is missing things that are no longer there. For me, it has to be the Dapper Dans Barbershop Quartet, as well as Space Mountain a la Terre a la Lune.
This is a dangerous subject.
I'll try to stop myself from going into one of my manic bouts of nostalgia, but I'll say I miss that odd proper shopping you used to be able to do on Main Street, for that wonderfully contradictory ware that no one should have ever thought would sell to anyone outside of Japan. High-end men's accessories with dwarfs on them, proper table settings with dalmatian spots on them (because if the Queen drops by, you'll need a salad fork with your cartoon cutlery), that sort of thing. The resort was on a hilarious teeter-totter between highbrow and lowbrow in its first five years or so of operation. It has since comfortably settled into lowbrow, which is probably where it belongs, but it isn't as funny.
Oh man Pussinboots, I do miss that too. No more ties, watches, cuff links or table settings. I couldn't afford much when they did them, and now that i want to buy stuff like that, they don't sell it.
Also, I miss proper fireworks displays throughout the year. Bummer.
Hmm, I mostly miss the Discoveryland of the mid to late 90s and Adventureland Bazaar. If I ever find Timekeeper's time machine backstage and manage to make it work, I know where I'll go...
I guess I would miss the Explorers Club as well if I had actually taken the time to eat there before its transformation....
As others have said, it's the whole atmosphere as you walk underneath Main Street Station and in to Disneyland Park.
It's as if you've left all your troubles behind and you're transported in to a magical place.
The smell, the music - just amazing. In fact, I'm gutted that www.soundofmagic.com (http://www.soundofmagic.com"%20onclick="window.open(this.href);return%20false;) doesn't work anymore because you can't hear the music anymore :-(
And of course, the look on my Daughters face when you enter the park the first time. We went the first time last year and when she saw the castle for the first time her face nearly brought a tear to my eye. Magical.
- D
EVERYTHING!!
I miss the smell of the HNY, and the atmosphere of DV!
i dont really miss anything that used to be there but isnt anymore.
But most of all i miss the feeling of leaving worries and stress behind and just enjoying yourself and not caring what anyone else thinks : D
ah well only 145 days to go : )))
One thing you can't deny is that people are really making this thread their own.
But it can be difficult to be nostalgic for things you never actually experienced (insert political joke here) and I never saw the Explorers Club in its original state either. Even worse, I'd barely be able to picture the Adventureland Bazaar had it not been for photographs. So it would be disingenuous to say either. The original Space Mountain however is seared into my brain, as is the old Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. Isn't it always the music that does most of the searing?
Oh, and and the Silly Reindeer.
I miss the feeling of just being there. The moment when you walk under the train station and you see the castle again.
I also miss the character free Auberge de Cendrillon and Le Visionarium.
We're going back in February, and I'll miss Good Morning Fantasyland breakfasts. Also, Indiana Jones going backwards - I prepared my girlfriend for it before our first trip together, than had to go online once we'd got back to make sure I hadn't imagined it!
That sweet smell of the Bakery Shop for our first coffee and cake
Space Mountain a la Terre a la Lune... every time I go back... I miss it!
The way the park used to be!!!
I miss the geyser... I only saw it once, probably in our first visit, and I've been dying to see it again ever since!

Unfortunately I don't know how the park used to be in the first years, but friends told us and now I want the park how it used to be, too.
Quote from: "never2old"I miss the geyser... I only saw it once, probably in our first visit, and I've been dying to see it again ever since!
I have never seen they geyser. I can't remember if it was working in summer of 2000, but it definately wasn't working in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010.
I want to see it working.
whats the Geyser? :)
Quote from: "disneyloverjessie"whats the Geyser? :)
This was the Geyser... it's to the right of Phantom Manor

oh right yea, i know what you mean now :))
Spotted another one last night, I really miss the santa coat they used to put on the Fantasia fountain Mickey in the Studios forecourt. Also miss the Christmas parade, when the whole parade was festive not just the last float and the whole of Main Street was singing Chante Cest Noel, (sigh)

Oh, I loved that Santa coat!! I was really upset when it didn't come back...

the whole atmosphere, smells and sounds everything i just love it!
and as for the park being like it used to be? no i like it the way it is now! but i suppose it was newer looking and i remember the bazaar bit - that area doenst really do much now does it. oh and the fireworks i havent seen them for about 10 years!
I miss things about not being there, mainly the first ting ting tings :D of Chante C'est Noel, makes me cry when I hear it at home and my heart ache wanting to be at DLP to hear it...
I miss the electrical parade! :(
I used to love that soo much :))
As someone mentioned I do miss the Xmas arches and had hoped that at some time they would return but in the Studios.....
Its always been hard to get some atmosphere in the Studios and I believe this would be a perfect addition for xmas, after all at WDW they were also at Epcot and not MK.
I really miss when you would not see these signs of decay:

Think the thing i miss most is just waking up at disney, knowing that your gonna have an amazing day, and just the general feeling you get when your there, its amazing xx :belle:
I miss the giant figures that used to be in Disney Village (See the thread on old DV photo's) annd although I didn't like the towers I loved the effect of the net lights spreading out over them, at night obviously.
I really miss the Main Street Electrical Parade, probably even more since May 6th 2008 when our son was born and the MSEP song was playing at the time of his birth! As much as Fantillusion is fun, it wasn't as charming as the MSEP. Speaking of which, I heard on a recent podcast (from Zip A De Do Pod) the original song from which the MSEP song was derived from - was an odd but strangely fascinating stripped down version.
Streetmosphere - they have bring this back. It made Studios some a little less spaced when you had those guys and gals performing and getting people interacting.
walking around adventureland before 10am.
Here's a great article by the Designing Disney blog, that shows the lost entertainment of the early 90's
(for those of you who don't read as far down as the weblinks and media section ;) )

I also miss the shirts they used to sell in Main St Motors. They were smart enough to wear to work with very subtle Disney branding, but on our visit 2 weeks ago they were nowhere to be found.

I miss those when they were sold in Bixby Bros where they belonged, and when Main St Motors sold real vintage cars.
i miss the shops when they all sold different things,
i miss that shark that used to hang up in disney village when i was a kid,
i miss the geyser too
things i miss that i cant wait to do again next month,
hotdogs from caseys corner yumyumyumyumyumyumyumyuym
and i miss the feeling you get when you walk through the gates,
Can't believe I forgot to mention Tarzan: The Encounter - by far my favourite show, though I admittedly never saw those previous to it. I miss it even more when The Chaparral Theater is left dormant outside the Christmas months. Does anyone know if they have plans to use it for anything again?

Oh, yes!! Defintely the best show. I think I'll always miss it...
Agreed. It was my very favorite too, followed by Mulan and Roc Shoc (ok and of course the Lucky Nugget Revue).
i only ever saw mulan once... would have liked to see it again
ahh, i loved the mulan show!!
i forgot about it until it was mentioned here : )
I miss quality goods at the shops,I always bought something each visit but now its hard to find something I like...
I really miss the smells and sounds of Main Street at Christmas!
Mostly the music they play around the park for Christmas, and the excitement of knowing you're going to have an AWESOME holiday!
I miss the magic the parks seemed have lost over the last few years.
As well as the Geysers, the Lion King Show...
On second thoughts, I miss the old Christmas lights down main street, the arches looked great!
I also miss the fireworks after the Fantillusion!
I miss the atmosphere in the parks while watching the parades and shows. You really feel like you can leave all your problems behind at the gate and just have an amazing time.
I really miss Space Mountain-de la Terre a la Lune, Adventureland Bazar with all these little shops and maroccan craftsmen. The atmosphere was just amazing!!! In 1994 when i visited DlP for the first time they sold stuff themed by the lands, for example a Minnie plush dressed as a belly dancer in Adventureland, they had stickers, post cards and much more always matching the area...
They had more clothing for men, tableware... Each store sold its own stuff...Recently I'm dissapointed that Cowboy Cookout changed to a buffet restaurant. And i miss a show on Castle Stage, especially Le Livre Magique de Mickey!!! And there used to be pens, letter paper etc each with the Hotels logo on it... Last thing- i miss the Lion King and Pocahontas Show!!! Nevertheless i love Disneyland Paris!!!

I totally agree with you. Nice to see that other people feel the same "pain" concerning the alteration in DLP.
As it was already said in other threads: All the changes you mentioned go hand in hand with a loss of the original atmosphere and thus a loss of the old Disneyland. Concerning the souvenirs: I have already written it somewhere else: I have a great wooden Davy Crockett gun at home, bought in 1995, today they offer blue-red plastic guns. None of the shops is unique anylonger, because they all offer the same...stuff. And as you wrote it: The atmosphere was amazing. Today I'm often really disappointed when comparing the atmosphere of the past and today. I might sound like old people complaining about the youth, but I have to say: Everything was better in the past...
They really changed Cowboy Cookout to a buffet restaurant?? Oh my god, this was my favourite location to eat in the park :(
But to not write an endless essay, I think I can sum it up in just one sentence: I miss the old Disneyland.
Cowboy cookout is still a counter service for most of the day, but there's a "pastry buffet" every afternoon with the rubber heads :)

Cowboy Cookout is a table service menu restaurant during the day and a pastry buffet in the afternoon. Was my favourite restaurant, but as the fixed price menu is 26 euros it looks like Fuento del Oro or Hakuna matata when I visit in October.
I really miss that I can buy the expected things in the shops:
(just some examples)
Ribbons & Bows Hat Shop: In the first - hm don´t know - ten years it was the first stop of my disneyland adventure. I bought here my hat for the trip. I was sooo sad to find just kiddy stuff one day. It´s a hat shop not a baby shop.
Harrington's Fine China & Porcelains: Were´s the "fine" china? I loved it. But today it´s hard to find something cool between all this mugs.
Adventure Bazar: It was so wonderful to see all this craftsmans work. And the wonderfull baglava. Together with a litte cup of fresh mint tea (also available at the shops there) it was heaven on earth.
I also miss the pirate liquorice candy which you could buy at the POTC shop and high quality merch. (My mother is searching for a new watch now since years. She bought her at main street but at the shop there are only low budget watches now.)
I also miss central plaza without a stage, le visionarium, space mountain I...
I miss the lucky nugget show and the mulan show. And I miss discoveryland.
Glad I am not the only one. The place no longer feels like Disneyland because of all these cut backs
I also miss the different food vendors - on my first visit in 1992 I can remember eating gorgeous pretzels and crepes. Now all you get is popcorn and ice lollies *yawn*
i really miss the lion king show
