Title: Disney Enchanted Christmas 2010/11
Post by: B-Hoernchen79 on August 23, 2010, 03:54:23 PM
Hello everyone,

does anybody know, what`s going on on DLRP this Christmas Season?

Ok, first I heard, the Illlumination of the castle will be part of the showtime spectacular ...
On the parade, the nutcrackers, evles ( ) and Santa Clause will be
Fantillousion will during in the nighttime

What else?
Is the Christmas Lighting Ceremony and Mickeys Winter Wonderland coming back? Will Minnies Christmas Show from the 15year celebration also return like the Halloween show from her? Will Snow White and the dwarfs return for their show and if Beauty and the Beast comes out this year on DVD/Bluray, is there a new kind of show planed`?

On New Years Eve will there be a different firework like the one who is for years now?
Will anything be new on the Christmas Season?

But the magic back to Disney with good shows and not only with rollercoaster rides!

With a couple of exceptions, most people are still guessing on this one.    DLP has yet to issue the press release covering the Christmas Season.

Based on previous years the press release is kind of late...so I would imagine that it will be available soon.

We are going the 11th December for 6 nights, and we usually send for the winter brochure so that my parents can gaze at the christmas pages, but it is only available as a download at the moment.

Still can't wait,  we personally think it is the most magical time to go (although I would say ANYTIME is a magical time) but Christmas is just something else.

My first Christmas Season in DLRP was in 1996, the time where the christmas parade with seasonally decorated floats and the performers dressed up for christmas takes the last time along the Main Street.
Also I noticed the Christmas Carol Singers in Main Street, which in fallowing years never come back :/ ....
In 1998, the 2 year of Once upon a dream parade, they where gently elves and reindeer costumes in front of the santa clause float. In 1999 they where gone and now we have this elves with cakes ... Why? I read somewhere, that the new elves are better to be involved in the parade stop. When this is so... COME ON!!! I never see the parade stop of the costumed reindeers and gently elves, but they can do the same dance as the prince and princesses or????

I really hope, they bring back a little more magic soon... the park is not only all aboout coster rides!

Hi,

The 2010 mini-site for Christmas is now available.   Unlike previous years, this year it seems to be 'contained' within the existing New Generation mini-site.

No word on Belle's Christmas Vilage or It's a Small World Celebration yet, but that can change once the official press release will come out next week. Snow White will be replaced by Rapunzel. It's currently unknown if that will be a standard meet & greet or a small show (happening) like with Snow White last year.

They have all the props, decorations and costumes for both 'events', so that shouldn't cost too much extra to inplement. I guess we'll have to wait to find out.

Hi All,

Found this marketing image in the Christmas thread over on DCP which I thought you'd enjoy!.

I'm wondering the image provides an insight into new decorations for Main Street, or whether you can read just a little too much from the image.   For example, take a look at the garlands stretching across Main Street.

Original image appears to have been provided by the DLRP Express blog.
Title: Re: Christmas Season 2010 - what will happening?

That is highly unusual! It looks like something Tokyo Disneyland might put out. So traditional. One would expect Princess Tiana as the Ice Queen in some glittery purple wonderland, or something in that vein.

Those garlands are a bit like the ones you'd find hanging over any European high street, but I'd take them over those chandeliers, personally. Although it's probably just the artist's imagination. (Wouldn't they interfere with the Once Upon a Dream Parade in any case?)

On a side note, it's funny how they can never get the castle's perspective quite right. Here it looks like it's being swallowed by the earth.

I thought that there was a visual here that actually had the layout of the park correct... for about 2 seconds...

They have what kinda looks like the entrance to WDS on the left of Town Square, then Fantasyland behind that...

Oribitron in Frontierland

Disneyland Hotel the far side of Frontierland

And Town Square that looks more like a plaza at the bottom of a sky skraper with... a oversized towering xmas tree

At least they haven't flipped the castle :D

On another note, If they actually did the two small trees either side of the start of main street and the garlands, it would look sooo nice! :P
Title: Re: Christmas Season 2010 - what will happening?
Post by: Tuvok on September 07, 2010, 10:20:20 AM
As stated above: the whole picture is wrong, although I love the design. Main Street is not the one we see at the park. Look at City Hall, very strange. Indeed Town Square is much different then the real park. I never liked those garlands (the ones in the Studios Park are SO ugly), so I hope we still have the very cool blue Princess poles.
In the picture we have a sailing ship in the Rivers of the Far West? Well, although it's complete wrong if you compare this to the blueprint of the actual park, it looks very nice and Christmassy. But for god sake, loose Buzz! The should be focussing on the classic characters again. Why not Tinkerbell? It would look so much better in my opinion. Overall very nice!

As Tuvok said: Loose Buzz!
Fair enough if we have a few other NG characters, but here we have all the Classic Characters, Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto, etc etc... and BUZZ?! Whhaat? He looks so out of place here.

Funny wee Mickey-shaped grassed area in Town Square...

What's also slightly unclear is why Buzz Lightyear is spreading pixie dust.

I don't mind the geographical inaccuracy... Its only purpose is to be atmospheric, after all.

When I read that "Rapunzel" come to Disneyland Paris this Christmas, I had a great Idea for the Showtime Spectacular.

When the last show of the day comes to an end with Tiana and her prince with their musical number, they could bring Rapunzel on the stage! With her magical hair and a little bit of pixie dust she could illuminate the castle. Even more better, she could stay on the balcony from the castle, let her hair down and with thinkerbell they could illuminate the castle.

It is so easy to bring a little more magic into this and this wouldn`t coast a lot of money I guess. And the appereance of Rapunzel on the Showtime Spectacular should be only during the christmas time every evening on the last show, so that it makes more special :)

So, what do you tink? :D

The music in Main Street is all instrumental versions traditional Christmas songs (at least for the US/UK market), such as We Three Kings, We Wish you a Merry Christmas etc.

We are going out on the 13th - 17th December and staying at The Newport Bay. I CAN'T WAIT!!! We went in November last year and stayed at The Santa Fe. We had a fantastic time. I admit to a few tears when the tree lighting ceremony happened and more than a few on our last day. Let's just hope I've got most of the Christmas shopping done before we go.

I saw Beast and Belle in the village last year in a cornered off section during Mickeys not so scary but couldnt get a pic with them because they were surrounded by pushy parents! grrrrr! Maybe with the village open we might stand a better chance this year! only 27 days to go now! gulp!!!

Wonder if anyone can help? Does any body know what the French christmas song/carol was that Minnie sang last year during the Christmas Tree lights ceremony. It has a very catchy tune and would love to find out it's name so I can google the lyrics - not that I'll understand what they mean but I can still sing along to them
Only 24 days till we are back at DLP for Christmas again -oooh the excitement just gets worse!!!

Oh Great.
I hate them.
They look cheap, tacky and the LED lights are just cold.
And they completely don't fit the theme of Main Street U.S.A.

Needless to say, I'd prefer the return of the arches which is not going to happen, but some simple garlands like the ones they use in Anaheim would look more classy. Sad.

Completely agree. Also, the "Princesses" theme of these now seems very out of date as the park has moved towards a more classic Mickey/Minnie/Santa Claus Christmas elsewhere, bringing back the Tree Lighting Ceremony last year rather than the spiritless Enchanted Fairytale Ceremony the chandeliers were designed around, for example.

They'd need to be suspended much higher here for Fantillusion etc...

Now those garlands look good, much better than what we have at DLRP, the only thing that disturbs me about that picture is the Americans seem to be flying the stars and stripes off the top of the tree. Please tell me there is a flag pole just behind the tree.

Yes there is (//http://albums.mouseplanet.com/AdrienneVincentPhoenix/TreeDay1_111107_AVP.jpg)!

I wouldn't mind a more colourful tree like that too, ours is a little flat and cold with those giant snowflakes. It's been a while since there was any big change for the season hasn't it? But every year is advertised as the "biggest Christmas ever". Hmm...

Anaheim's Main Street decoration looks nice and it would be great to see it in Paris as well. I would prefere a decoration that isn't connected to any characters. I have to say that DLP's Main Street Christmas lights doesn't look bad, but please remove the princesses. It's time for something new.

Well, I guess with one night to go it's a good time to talk a little about this year's "it's a small world" Celebration....

Last year it not only came back from a five-year hiatus, there were also a few new additions. It got new lighting effects, new signage, scents, and for the first time the ride had the entire holiday soundtrack imported from California (with an exterior music loop mixed just for Paris).

This year, with the same team behind it, we still get all that but the attraction will receive some more attention on its exterior (now don't expect California's thousands of Christmas lights all over the facade, we get something more subtle... I'm curious to see how it'll look at night once they're done), additional lighting effects and projections inside, several new costumes and props, and for the first time for a seasonal attraction at DLP, it has its own poster under Main Street Station.

I guess that some of the changes will be hard to spot, but it'll all add to the overall show and make it different from the year-round experience. Work's still going on tonight, here's hoping that everything works out as planned.....

The entertainment guide says Rapunzel will be out for meet and greets from tomorrow! Looking forward to seeing the first pictures of her, and how they will get over the problem of her hair outside (as opposed to California, where she is inside and so the hair can be a permanent feature). Fingers crossed we'll see some pics tomorrow!

Can't wait. I really hope the team working on it (and perhaps just as importantly people higher up in management) saw how much last year's overlay was appreciated and all the design work that went into it. Really a cut above.

Today, I saw on Disney Today the Press Event of Christmas 2010 with Tangled, the illumination of the castle, the Irisih Folk Dance and the Ballons with the candels in it....

First at all, if anybody on Disney Paris Department can read this. Why would you not take this show every evening for the castle illumination!?!?!

First at all, when you said, it is to expensive with the ballons, than let them away but the entire show was so amazing, perfectly for christmas! And you can`t say you need more personal because you had to learn them the cheography for this event and need also personal that perform the shows from showtime spectacular, which I also seen on the internet today...

It`s sounds nice with the Santa Clause is coming to town theme, but why, why the figures and castmembers do not wear a litte more christmasy suits?!? The Dancers could (I guess) easaly put on a christmas jackets (from the Minnies Christmas Show 3 years ago) and not only a christmas hat (sorry I don`t know the word in english).  And some of the Characters could wear a scarf or something.

And no word about the Christmas Section... when will this elves replaced by dancers like the first year of candelabration christmas section or Christmas Charakters?

Look at other parks, they had very special guest stars (celine dion!), all characters put on their christmas clothes (not even Mickey or Minnie in the parade - on halloween they wear their halloween costumes - why on christmas time not their christmas clothes (the one from the treelighting ceremony).

Please Disney, let a little more of romantic classic christmas into the Park and put the "Jazzy" Santa Clause it`s coming to town from the Showtime Spectacular in the Studios Park.

The Castle Lighting is sooooo much better now, without the 'Mickey Dance' following right after as a huge anti-climax. I'm loving the new decorations for the Central Plaza Stage as well!
All the characters at the Tree Lighting have new customes and especially Mickey looks very good. I'm not sure about Daisy though.

I have a quick question about the Christmas season. Do they still do the snowing effect on Main Street? If so, what's the official name for it, and what time is it on each day?

Yes they do, every day of the Christmas season. It doesn't have an official name. The effect is activated during the Disney All Stars Express, Disney's Once Upon A Dream Parade (when the Dreams of Christmas is in Main Street) and at the end of the day (when the shops in Main Street close) they blow all the remaining show in the air with the sound of bells. It's a shame they don't put this last 'performance' on the program. It realy is super magical seeing all the snow on Main Street with the blue lights of the chandaliers and the illuminated castle in the background. All the remaining guest were on the street and making pictures (at least last year when I was there). Loved it!

Yes, the last performance of Disney Showtime Spectacular celebrates Christmas every day is followed by the Castle Lighting Ceremony (incorporated in the final of the show).

Quote from: "claire2281"Finally got my trip booked so 19-21st of December for me. I'm hoping it will be extremely Christmassy?

Is there any extra stuff on when they get that close to Christmas or is it the same throughout the whole Christmas season?

I'm going on the 19th too! and that's a good question, will there be any extra goodies? I usually go early on in December!

I know the park is open till 10pm I think though :)

Can't wait to see Main Street all dolled up Xmas again!!

Does anyone know if they are doing extra magic morning at the studios like they did last year during xmas period - I think it was only an hour earlier and not 2 hrs like DL but it all helps!

The Studios now opens for EMH on Saturdays and Sundays in addition to the main park. TSPL is open, along with Crush and ToT, as far as I remember. It was on our EMH leaflet when we stayed a couple of weeks ago.

At the youtube disneyland channel is a wonderful video about the first christmas of DLP:

//http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvAS6DMZpJU

It´s wonderful! And good to compare: Today everythings seems/have/must to be louder. But I like the old times with this older decoration style without the princess chandeliers.

Look at how theme-appropriate everything was! Popcorn in the tree, berries in the wreaths, garland hung with bows, town criers! You really get the impression that it was all done with utmost care. And that they knew what they were decorating.

Of course, it's hard to complain even about today's Disneyland Park Christmas when there's the Studios sitting next door.

I know this isn't exactly relevant to this year's Christmas, and I'm sorry for diverging away from the main topic, but does anybody remember Minnie's Jolly Holiday from 2008 (I think!), well I have been searching for the first song of the show everywhere. Even just a name. Minnie's Jolly Holiday seems to obvious, and only comes up with results of the show. So if anyone could help me out, or know of a place where I can get the song I would be most grateful. Merry Christmas to everyone on the board too!!!!!

Does it go "Those jolly jolly jolly holidays, those holly holly holly jolly-days"?

If so that's "Jolly Holidays", a song which was originally used for old Christmas events in Disneyland Park (the Tree Lighting Ceremony maybe?) and more recently was also used for the Christmas CinéFolies skits in Studio 1. Unfortunately I've never found anything other than a very short poor quality recording which was on the old soundofmagic.com website.

Hope that helps anyway. :)

Was it on the 1995 Christmas Main Street Electrical Parade album by any chance? If so, I might be able to get it online.

[Edit] Oooh, there's no mention of that album anywhere online, not even on Memorabilia. I might just have a scoop here if my parents haven't discarded it during one of their spring cleanings. Anyway, I do think Jolly Holidays was on there.

That song is still used in the Christmas version of Disney's Stars 'n' Cars. When all the cars arrive at Place des Stars, this song is being played.
