Title: Waking Sleeping Beauty (2010)
Post by: dagobert on February 22, 2010, 12:45:08 PM
Disney made a very interesting documentary movie about the Walt Disney Animation Studios between 1984 and 1994.

Here is the trailer:

Hopefully it will come to Europe, too.

I can't wait to see this. Will it be coming out in cinemas, or will it go direct to DVD?

WOW! I cannot wait to see this, would love it to get a cinema release in the UK, but I'd settle for DVD!

This looks very interesting. I'm sure we've all watched the behind-the-scenes DVD extras from Aladdin and The Little Mermaid and wanted more. This looks to be just that.

However, it's released by Disney itself. You have to wonder if that means they'll sugarcoat certain things they don't want to be true — that the films between The Lion King and Tarzan haven't been all that successful or critically acclaimed, for instance. Or the Robin Williams situation.

Someone on YouTube summed it up nicely (which doesn't occur often):
"I hope this is as "real" as the summary makes it sound. I REALLY hope this isn't fluff. I want to know the nitty-gritty stuff and the hot drama. I want to know all the interesting creative details that studio-endorsed fluff pieces often think audiences?are too dumb to understand."

I'm also a little bit sceptical, if the movie is showing the truth. But Disney isn't promoting the movie much and the movie poster doesn't feature any Disney logo. So maybe they want that the movie isn't connected too much with the Disney Company, because it contains some critic things.

I really hope they bring this to the UK to watch, i'm really into the behind the scenes stuff at Disney.

I'm not very hopeful that it will come out here in Luxembourg... My only hope is that it will be released in DVD or bluray.

The DVD release of this in the US has since been announced as 30th November: http://disneydvd.disney.go.com/waking-s ... eauty.html (http://disneydvd.disney.go.com/waking-sleeping-beauty.html%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

Really, really hope Europe is soon after, or else this'll be another Disney fan DVD for the import shelf (along with all the Treasures).

I've sent an email to Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Austria if the movie is coming to Europe. Until now I didn't get a reply. If Disney will not release the movie in cinemas in Europe, I really hope that Disney will release it on DVD. European Disney fans deserve this movie as well.

So this is out on region 1 DVD now: http://www.amazon.com/Waking-Sleeping-B ... B003TVTRYM (http://www.amazon.com/Waking-Sleeping-Beauty-Edward-Disney/dp/B003TVTRYM%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

Along with a couple of other great looking documentaries: http://progresscityusa.com/2010/11/29/buy-these-movies/ (http://progresscityusa.com/2010/11/29/buy-these-movies/%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

Any sign of them hitting Europe?? There must be far more "niche" titles than these brought over here...

That's so annoying that Disney doesn't release the movie in Europe. Maybe I will order the DVD from the US Amazon Store.

I've sent an Email to TWDC Germany and to TWDC Austria, but none of them answered. So I don't think that we will see the movie in the cinemas, but maybe Disney considers to release it on DVD in the future.

I just ordered the DVD. Shipping is only $3 and the exchange rate Euro - Dollar is okay at the moment. So it's not that expensive.

I've ordered from the US amazon store before, with the exchange rate you get really great deals!

I've added the Waking Sleeping Beauty DVD to my Christmas list... With a link to the amazon.com page... ;)

Today I received Waking Sleeping Beauty and of course I had to see it immediately.

The movie is great and it shows how Roy Disney brought in the new management and how the new management changed the Anmation Departement.
Waking Sleeping Beauty also shows the tensions between the executives in the later years.

It is definately worth to see it!!!

There are also some bonus features on the DVD.
