Title: Disneyland Paris.com Website Updates
Post by: Willow on February 08, 2010, 07:02:06 PM
As posted on the DLRP Magic and Photos Magiques Twitters, Disneyland Paris has (finally) launched a new website.

http://us.disneylandparis.com/index.xhtml (http://us.disneylandparis.com/index.xhtml%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

However, it is not fully rolled-out yet so can only be accessed from the above link.

I've been crying out for a new website for years, the old website was poorly layed out and was too reliant on Flash.
The only negative I have found so far is the top-menu, I don't think the text is as clear as it should be.

I'm so glad they've finally done this. Maybe someone over at DLP realised that DLRP Magic is a much better website and taking all their traffic  :P  It says 'us' at the beginning of the url though- does this mean it's just the site for American visitors?

Now all I wish is that they could change the UK Walt Disney World Site as well, it's horrible!!

Much better than the old one. The only annoying thing is the lack of capital letters. Makes it look less professional.

The last time the website relaunched it began with the international/US version. A blue bird tells me there are new pages coming as well, not just a new menu, which is a relief. Especially since taking off the old top menu has taken away the "mute" button for the millions of Flash animations. Argh!

It's a shame that (so far) they're keeping the same page structure with all those crazy sub-domains and too many menu categories. I really like the WDW site's header which just has Discover | Plan | Book ...and a search box! Please tell they've have a search function! It looks more like a redressing than a rebuild at the moment, but fingers crossed.

Oh yeah, all criticism for DLP's site disappears when you visit that. I can't believe that's what they use for UK visitors. It genuinely looks like they gave up about 5 years ago.

Is there really such a difference between the new one and the old one. If you click on the button "disney parks" or "hotels" you come to the pages that look like the ones in the old homepage. So they have just changed the mainpage.

And yes it is annoying that they are not using capital letters.

I agree with Anthony that the Walt Disney World website is much more pleasant to navigate. It also feels far slicker and far more coherent than Disneyland Paris' website has ever been — which has always looked a bit like a website for a local theme park with more information.

Although it's pleasantly odd to see the old navy logo again. Hard to believe they've resisted temptation and didn't add anything to it this time. Well, except that picture of those balloons.

Does anyone remember when the Disney World website was all purple and had a little song playing in the background? In about 2000? No? No one that old?

It's starting to look a lot better now (although Ant's site still puts it to shame! ), but it's still go ta long way to go yet. Obviously, they haven't updated all the pages, and hopefully the whole site will look a lot better when it's fully done. But I do wonder why this new and improved home page still say Disneyland RESORT Paris at the top of the browser page (the bar with the minimise and close buttons at the top of every web browser - does that bar have a name?!?). It's also a puzzle why they still have the pointless 'Coming to a screen near you' page, advertising the exciting new upcoming Disney film releases; Narnia: Prince Caspian and Wall-E

That's just called the page title I guess, it's whatever goes between <title></title> in the header. And yeah, where WDW has simply "Walt Disney World Resort", DLP has "Disneyland Resort® Paris, enter the magic of Disneyland® Paris in France". The DLP website in general doesn't seem to have enough people working on it.

I'm glad they're not going with the two-colour logo like on the Casting website, since that has been used a lot as the "official" version. Although the one here looks like it's been saved as the lowest quality JPG possible. It all needs to be able to breathe a bit, like this (//http://www.imgdash.com/uploads/648cc_officialwebsite1.jpg)? (yes, I'm wasting time)

Not Disney World, but I do remember this: http://web.archive.org/web/200003021620 ... paris.com/ (http://web.archive.org/web/20000302162025/www.2000.disneylandparis.com/%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

Now showing for the UK: http://www.disneylandparis.co.uk/index.xhtml (http://www.disneylandparis.co.uk/index.xhtml%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

Luckily all the old Flash animations appear to have had their sound cut.

How long have the DLP and WDS pages been broken?

This forced music is driving me mad each time I try and check some planning info.

sorry but I don´t see the big diffrence. It´s nearly the same. And just because they decided to give the menu a white background isn´t really a "new website". maybe they should ask someone who knows how to make a good combination with information, usability and structur + design. Seems to be a hard thing for ED...simply don´t know why :(

Well, I hope they finish the new website before the NGF starts...
You get linked to the new website at the official Disney Parks-website: //http://home.disney.go.com/parks/

And people, the DLP website looks wonderful when you compare it to the Tokyo Disney Resort website (//http://www.tokyodisneyresort.co.jp/)

Hong Kong Disneyland may not be the best disneyland park in the world, but certainly in my opinion they have the best website;

Well, it's not bad, but it's a little too Flash-dependent, I think. But it beats Disneyland's, which is completely stuck in 2002.
Title: Re: New Website
Post by: Javey74 on February 14, 2010, 07:50:46 PM
On the whole I think it is an improvement, since the old one did rely on a lot of flash animation, which could slow your computer down something rotten at times. I have to agree with the comments on the lack of capitalisation which can make it look slightly amateurish, but I do like the top tab menu, though as someone pointed out, the text needs to be darker for better visibility..

Oh and I will say the word 'Resort' has finally disappeared, I rather liked it, I know there are other threads discussing this one, and as I said I rather liked it. It makes Disneyland sound a little smaller to me not being a resort. Still I'll be abbreviating it as DLRP, as ever..

Is it just me or are a lot of pages now showing 404 Page Not Found errors?

http://entertainment.disneylandparis.co ... ndex.xhtml (http://entertainment.disneylandparis.co.uk/restaurants-and-bars/index.xhtml%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

http://entertainment.disneylandparis.co ... ndex.xhtml (http://entertainment.disneylandparis.co.uk/meet-disney-characters/index.xhtml%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

http://entertainment.disneylandparis.co ... ndex.xhtml (http://entertainment.disneylandparis.co.uk/entertainment/index.xhtml%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

Including the two main park pages:

http://parks.disneylandparis.co.uk/disn ... ndex.xhtml (http://parks.disneylandparis.co.uk/disneyland-park/index.xhtml%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

And the tickets page:

http://offers.disneylandparis.co.uk/tickets/index.xhtml (http://offers.disneylandparis.co.uk/tickets/index.xhtml%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

And it's been like that since last week. :?

Yeah, ignore me. Must have been something stuck in the browser cache. Never had anything like that before, taking you to a page error. I was getting hopeful they were moving the pages around, perhaps ditching the index.xhtml addresses...

As did the Belgian one, although that got it's make-over a bit later than the UK one.
I don't think that much has changed to be honest, but it's nice to see them toying around with it and making it look different.

So the New Gen website has apparently been postponed til tomorrow after promoting February 23rd all month, and they've had the "New Stars" (German?) logo on the UK homepage all day: http://www.disneylandparis.co.uk/index.xhtml (http://www.disneylandparis.co.uk/index.xhtml%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

Same leopard, new spots.

I was hoping that was some work going on...

Bit embarrassing now to have the wrong logo, "landing 24th" on the homepage and "landing 23rd" on the holding page. Perhaps since they did get the logo wrong, the date is also wrong... the French, German and other sites state the 25th.

So, check again tomorrow.

...its still annoying me... to get to the booking page to check prices it opens 3 new windows :( Thats what i disliked about the old site too. Anytime i clicked links it opened a new window. (and its not my settings as it doesnt happen on any other website)

I do like the overall look to the website and i think its easier to navigate

I think the 'New Stars' name and logo is far less clumsy than the New Generation Festival. In any case, 'Next Generation' would make more sense.

It is much better that you can now change small details or search different hotels to find alternate quotes just from the sidebar. I seem to remember the old system was a nightmare for that.

Now I wish they'd change the horrible hotel selection pages, with all that flash and the background music you still can't turn off! Arggh! http://hotels.disneylandparis.co.uk/index.xhtml (http://hotels.disneylandparis.co.uk/index.xhtml%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

I found something wrong with it!
When you select your hotel now, on the right of the page you can flick through photos of the selected hotel...
Towards the end of the group of photos for the Newport Bay there is a photo of a bedroom in the Explorers!

I like the new layout. It is easier to navigate! And it gives options for character dining and BBWWS

Hey, just clicked on the website today and the UK homepage seems to have had a re-design where you can choose your hotel dates straight away, and the offers are all nice and tidy looking in well designed boxes.
Not sure if I made a lot of sense there, just have a look for yourselves :P

Speaking of DisneylandParis.co.uk updates, I love how when you go to the What's New part of their website there's no mention of Captain EO. What's that all about? How can they mention Discover My Stitch! but not a real attraction that they've spent a lot of money on bringing back?

Hate to point it out, but Chessington World of Adventures actually has a much better website than Disneyland Paris:

This seems to be the best thread I can find on this, so here we go...
DLRP Magic's Twitter (//https://twitter.com/DLRPToday/status/254941555473928192) (link 2 (//https://twitter.com/DLRPToday/status/254942354811793408)) and News DLRP (//http://www.newsdlrp.com/dlp-13249-disneyland-paris-site-internet-officiel-web-refonte-menu.html) have both reported a survey is being conducted on improvements to the navigation on the official website.

Personally, the whole website needs a revamp, as it is so old and cumbersome. It is so hard to use, no searching, poor information and of course, flash everywhere! It is not good for generating bookings at all. However, at least this is a step in the right direction.
