Hi, I'm new in the pin trading and I would soon start collecting Pins. Who has tips on how I can best begin?
Thanks in advance!
Decide in advance exactly what it is that you want to collect. :P It might save you some money in the long run, as if you can stick to it, it'll mean you won't be splashing out money on pins/themes that you don't actually collect.

This I must agree with, real good advice here from Masamune..
 That advice comes too late for me. I have over 460 pins now, and my collection is insanely varied. I find myself buying pins that I like a lot, but have no interest in collecting, which just seems like a waste really.

I'm sort of half way to your dilemma, but I think I might have just rescued some clarity to our collection, simply as not too varied on the whole..
I agree with Masamune as well as there are soo manny pins it is easy to get side tracked on pins you like rather than what you want to collect, For me Ive stuck to just stitch and UP and even though Ive only been collecting 3 months or so now Ive been able to stick to it (for now at least)
I'm brutal. I jusy choose ones that i like the look of....
I do like the pixar pins (monstors inc, cars, up, toy story etc) and the pirates ones.
But then i love so many more too lol. There is such a huge variety to choose from.
I am the same as pink danio I tend to just buy what I like, its the pins I collect not a particular theme and I dont think it's a waste if you really like the pin. Although I did get carried away and just buy pins for the sake of it at the start which was a bit of a waste of money but they are lovely.
My tips would be:
Find out some information (like you are doing) about pins, the different types of pins - limited edition, core pins, hidden mickey pins, cast lanyard pins etc
If you want to trade pins there are various ways to do that e.g. in the disney stores with cast members, at disneyland/world parks, on websites with other collectors or with friends who also collect pins.
you can buy pins in disney stores, parks and many buy on places such as ebay.
It's something you pick up and understand the more you get into it:) if you have any questions we would be happy to help:)
sorry for hi-jacking.... aveen can i ask you what the cast lanyard pins are?
yeah course no probs - they are pins that can't be bought in shops they are given by the disney company to cast members for trading with pin traders/guests. If you are in a disney park or disney stores uk you may see a cast member (staff) wearing a lanyard with pins around their neck, some of the pins may be just pins that have been given to them in a trade but sometimes there are special pins called cast lanyard pins on there too. Most of them have cast lanyard written on the back and usually have hidden mickey's on them ( a lil black mickey head on the pin at the front)
:) hope that helps
and I will add to what Aveen said about Cast Lanyard pins is that places like here and Facebook will get a heads up (sometimes) to what they are so we know what to look out for as some cast members dont know that much about pins so there could be one on their lanyard and not know its there as Ive had that before.
thanks for that :)
So i should prob bring a few with ,e to paris and keep an eye out for a cm wearing pins around his neck:)
I have not been but I think (others can correct if Im wrong) but most wear a lanyard to trade from I think. As well there is a pin board for limited editions to be traded onto the board but someone else who has been and know the pin board can explain that as I have not been to DLRP myself :(
No prob stitch, thanks for that :) Im sure when i get to the airport my hand luggage will be beeping lol.
Ive read on another site that they have 3 boards in dlp to trade from, one in the studios, one in main street and one somewhere else in the park. I've only 3 days so i best keep my eyes peeled lol
One final question...(for now) when you see the trade board who decides what you can and cant swap? Say i had two LE pins (the same) and i wanted to swap for one on the board - is it just a straight swap or how does that work?
Ive got to remember how its been explained to me lol I think its 2 pins per day on the pin board and if the pin you want to trade is already on the board you cant trade it onto the board.
lol thanks stitch :)
I think i'll just bring mine and see if there are any i like (fingers crossed i spot the boards)
Thanks for the great advice guys!

Good point danny!
Hiya Ronald welcome to the addiction..i mean hobby of pin trading :D the others have made some great points above all buy pins because you like them or they have some sort of meaning to you,you can't really go wrong if you do that!
Thought i would try and help by letting you know when a cast member can/should say no to trading a pin to avoid any embarassment!
-The pin must have the @Disney mark
-Plastic,rubber & non metal pins can not be traded
-Cast name badges or service pins can not be traded
-The pin you are trading must not already be on the lanyard/board
-Pins must be in good undamaged condition
-Also pins thats belong to a set if making up a picture/phrase must not be traded as a single pin but as a set!
I have only recently found out about that and i think it could cause some confusion as with some sets the individual pins don't look out of place on thier own,i think this ruling will be down to individual cms you deal with so i wouldn't worry too much just put it on the list so you knew about it!
Thanks , my problem is only... what do i need to collect :S My buddy collects stitch so i want something diffrent.
if you like stitch then collect stitch lol your friend shouldnt hate you for it if you want to collect Stitch as he is a very popular character to collect (I should know lol) every trader is different that is the obvious thing so whatever you collect be it the same as someone else or something different you will find what you want to collect sooner or later.
But no one can tell you what yo collect its up to you no one else lol keep us all informed of what you decide to collect and maybe we can help start your collection...
I've been collecting pretty much since pin trading started back in 2000 I happened to be in Florida when it all kicked off and stuck with since. At first I used to collect attraction pins. But time and time again I'd buy another pin cos it had Mickey on it I've always loved Mickey so I decided to concentrate on mainly collecting him! That isn't to say that I don't have pins that I love that aren't Mickey I've got side tracked in to a few random paths. Last summer in Paris, there weren't that many Mickey's on the lanyards I randomily decided to persue Buzz Lightyear and Chip and Dale pins. Variety is fun for me. Although I agree about sticking to a theme you don't have to be rigid at the end of the day its your collection you're buying them because you enjoy it and you want pins that when you look that will make you smile, that is for me, what its all about!
Im thinking to collect ratatouille!
cool not seen that film yet lol but so you know what pins there are and how many are out there go to Pinpics and take a look :)
Well for me Ive not seen a ratatouille pin in person yet lol
hi, i never knew there were boards in the park, so are these just for LE pins then? and is it the same rules as the lanyard no doubling up, only 2 a day, but htese have to have LE on the back?
Yeah the pin boards are LE at the top and core pins at the bottom and cant trade duplicate pins on the baord like the lanyards. And Ive heard the person will look to see if it says LE on the back.
oh right i see kind of like the store board but obviously i guess bigger. So do they change the location of these boards?
Ive heard they change locations everyday, I guess to stop traders getting all the good pins if it was in the same place all the time as wouldnt be fair on other traders if all the good pins were taken by the same person who stalked the pin board XD
