Wonderful World of Disney Parade becomes... The Princess Parade again from July 14th until Once upon a Dream makes its debute.
OK so if Le Parade des Princess returns does that mean the end to Mary Poppins and Dumbo :(.
... but the Disney Villains and Christmas parades will still go ahead yeah?
I guess so. No information about that yet.
Hahahaha!! Seriously??!! But... WHY?!
In fairness to The Princess Parade, there was nothing particularly wrong with it, it was still an alright parade. Just exactly the same as the WWODP, which was the problem I guess.
Maybe Kris' theory of DLRP using false advertising more and more is true? To be honest I think they've only done this to annoy people who run DLRP websites and will now have to change their pages over...
Btw, do you have a source Raptor? :P It's not april 1st is it? *checks calendar*
Quote from: "Baloo"To be honest I think they've only done this to annoy people who run DLRP websites and will now have to change their pages over...
Well maybe they see it as fantastically successful the last time round with little girls and camp guys who seem to adore and run after princesses like the plague in Disneyland Resort Paris  , but yeah I'm annoyed with the idea of changing the website situation, means I'm gonna have to go and change every word that says WWODP to Princess Parade on my WWODP page, oh what a chore  .
I fail to see how the Princess Parade can be better than The Wonderful World Of Disney Parade... it's the same, although has fewer floats and doesn't follow the theme (Steamboats in fairytale princess movies? I think not!)
To me it's just a cut down version of WWODP with less of a "wow"-factor. The idea of it being exclusively camp or "just for girls" also doesn't work as the other characters raid the concept and make a mess of the princess idea. In any case, isn't the parade meant to be universally appealing? The name sure isn't for the majority of little boys or Dads for example.......
AND RELAX!
Sorry maybe this sounds stupid, but what's the difference of the PP and the WWODP ? No seriously aren't there the same floats in both parades ? I'm just asking this because as I was in DLP in January 2004 they announced the PP but the music Dancin... was playing and there were all the floats like in the WWODP. One year later in May 2005 there was the same parade, but announced as WWODP. So is there really a difference between these two ?
Quote from: "Kris"I fail to see how the Princess Parade can be better than The Wonderful World Of Disney Parade...
Me too Kris. I would have preferd they keep wwodp till the new parade but will there be another Princess Week during Summer Magic that they have not yet have told anyone about. I realy hope The Disney Villlain parade and xmas parade stays
The difference as far as I know is Princess Parade does not include Mary Poppins and in the early stages, Dumbo or Steamboat Willie either, as to what's going to go and what will change is unknown simply cos the Princess Parade name seems like a jumbled bag of ideas.
all have to wait and see...
Oh that's all ? So then Kris is right. The PP is just a short version of the WWODP. I don't know why DLP is changing the Parade or more just the name for one year now. The Parade could stay as WWODP, not many people would recgonise the difference just because 2 or 3 floats are left. So it seems a bit silly to me to change the name now just for one year till there will be the new parade. So visitors are just getting confused, like me. When I hear the name Princess Parade I think of a great and romantic Parade which features of course all the princes and princesses in wonderful costumes. fanfare music and so on. But this is not what DLP will present.
If they had to cut the parade down to the Princess Parade, why didn't they do it in low season rather than waiting until accomodation costs are at their highest and then not give the guests a full experience?
I would have liked to see a fairly full WWODP as it must be getting close to its farewell season  This is a cost-cut too far and they do it when they expect the most peple there... I don't see any logic here
Well, in my opinion its just another way of cost cutting like someone already said. Besides that, its a smart way of making the Princess Week more special (I don't know what actually is special about the whole event, I'm not that kind of an entertainment freak to be honest). Last but not least, Disney now can sell the Princess Parade CD singles once again, the Dancin' CD single must have had it's best time by now when it comes to sails.
By the way; the biggest complaint about the Princess Parade was that Mickey and Minnie weren't presented before, right? That was the reason why they added Steamboat Willie. Maybe they can now start or end the parade with the Grand Staircase float with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy etc. in medieval prince/princess costumes? That way everybody is happy; the people see Mickey and his friends and no floats or costumess are used that clashes with the theme of the Princess Parade.

I doubt that will happen due to the accident with the float, they are probably not allowed to use it.
Martin
still gd idea
Raptor were did you find this out

Ow, I didnt knew there has been an accident. But why is this float still in storage then? Why didn't they demolish it right away? Or is it already gone by now?

Yes it was involved in quite a big accident - it ran over someone's leg when it was turning a corner, resulting in a "Parade Stop" on the streets for 45 minutes.
It's still in storage because of some French law that means it has to be kept onsite for something like 8 years after the original accident.

I've heard from a reliable source (*cough*Jorien*cough* lol) that the reservations offices have been informing people phoning for info of this "change" for a few weeks now, so it seems to definitely be happening... :?
I say the princess parade is just a downgraded wwodp.
As I understood it will, it's more a "guest satisfaction" thing. Guests are more familiar with "Princess Parade" than with "Wonderful World of Disney Parade".
Oh, and DLRPfan, don't worry about my source, it's my own Little Blue Bird
What's all that fuss about?
The parade sucks either way...
According to some friends in the EPC, nothing will be cut from the re-named parade, except some dancers but extra characters will be added.
The Mary Poppins, Casey Jnr and Steamboat Willie floats will all be still part of the parade.
In all about 11 dancers will be cut leaving most units down to about 5 each.
Bosses have realised during tests in May and this month that characters are more important to the visitors during the parade then the dancers are. So it is highly likely the current trend of extra characters in the parade will be introduced all the time. So expect Donald, all 7 dwarfs, Suzy and Perla, Genie, Penguins and a random selction of characters with Casey Jnr when The Princess Parade returns.
Interesting idea, though I'm the minority who really like dancers  , oh well suppose that's not too bad since all the floats are still included. Not much to worry about then apart from the annoying name  .

So why change the name to the 'Princess Parade' :? It just doesn't make sense!
Thanks for the info Tom!

Thanks for the info!
But did they really need a test for that? (Though I guess if they actually had the originally planned number of dancers in front of each float, the results would have been a bit different...)
I think the dancers make the parade seem more orderly and spectacular, although I know kids will be more worried about which characters they see! If no floats are being removed, then I can live with the name change. Extra characters are always welcome, although it's a shame a few dancers have to go. But hey... all 7 dwarfs will fill the Snow White float quite nicely.
Thanks for the promising info!
like paddy and tom said the characters are more importent but i still see no point in this whole thing
All the dwarfs were already present last weekend!
I disagree ok yeh most guests are interested in the characters... but i still think that floats, characters and dancers make the whole parade atmosphere more spectacular otherwise all there is to look at is just floats and characters. And by cutting dance units will make it look unprofessional and seem like there isnt enough castmembers to fill the parade... grrr im angry about this!
Quote from: "babybert"but i still think that floats, characters and dancers make the whole parade atmosphere more spectacular otherwise all there is to look at is just floats and characters.
Considering that they now only have a fraction of performers for their parades than what they used to have, I actually think getting rid of most dance crews in front of the floats will look less embarrasing... Because the current parade just isn't spectacular anymore, no matter what they add or cut... to me, it's a lost cause.
I remember seeing the World of Disney Parade back in '98 and it was truely spectacular and the many performers really made a difference (they used to have a kind of classic Hollywood "camera crew" in front of Steamboat Willie - which actually gave the parade a storyline, which has been completely lost nowadays)...
I hope they do everything right with the new parade next year - and whatever they do to the Wonderful World of Princesses & Stuff just doesn't make any difference anymore...
(Man, do I sound too harsh lately? I really should write a more positive piece... usually I am more of an apologist, believe it or not )
Some good news for 2007.
The number of cast in the parades will be raised from about 70 now to about 110. With 27 characters in total.
Parade stops will return and all 8 floats will have confetti effects for the stops.

Cool! Are they planning some kind of farewell season then?
woops, my mistake for not clarifying.
This is for the new 'once upon a dream' parade.
There will be no farewell season for the WWODP to my knowledge.
Sorry for the confusion
Haha, yeah. That's what I heard about the new parade too. I remember working the figures out in my head, although I heard of about 100 performers and an extra 23 characters. Now there's something to ponder over until we get the exact details. :P
Just to add to the float info, I did hear that they will also include fibre-optics (I assume bright enough like the Peter Pan To The Rescue ones) too. Nice thought, but not all that practical. Sound expensive too.
Yeah, I think most of us requested that information from Kinou
cool news cant wait to see the confetti
they must need to imploy more people sweeping the floors as wel lol

They have used confetti before on a different parade (can't remember which one it was!) and they just left it there until the end of the day and cleaned it up when they cleaned the park at night.

Should be in the Once Upon a Dream Parade topic then! :P
Confetti is an interesting choice, and something I thought DLRP would never do again because of the hassle of clearing it up. I really hope they don't leave it till the end of the day, like The Butlin Boy says they did previously!! :o Anyway, I bet the confetti would only stay part of the parade for a year, by 2008 it'll be gone, so it won't be too much of a problem for DLRP.
i think its a great idea! what parade did they use the confetti in previosally
I can't remeber, I just remember arriving at dlp in the afternoon a couple of years ago and seeing confetti on the floor, the next morning it was gone and when we saw the parade they were using confetti!
ah i think it was the wwodp 10th anniversary
Quote from: "Dlrpfan"ah i think it was the wwodp 10th anniversary
You mean the park's 10th Anniversary? The WWODP's 10th will be in 2008, so luckily it won't make it...
yea i ment the 10th aniversary celebration with the extra cake float in the wwodp
please tell me sabestain will be in ariels float, please.......
i love to see characters there in the parade, shame they have to cut dancers tho, ive been learning the dances at home, hehe
I got word from Patmagic that the additional characters in the WWODP parade are already present!
wow already!
Yes already and when I edit my wwodp so it has less of the guy in front of me's head in it then you will just how many characters there literally are at the opening  . Plus the likes of Genie dancing the choreography of Dancin etc etc.
Were there any exciting changes with the parade then? Just new announcements, nothing more?
No dumbo!
Well hardly amazing news, but since this parade changed I decided to edit a video of it together from my 2 days in June, so here you go.

Great Video Pat!
Nice to see the extra characters, but the dancer numbers are shocking in some units.
Its such a good thing that the PP/WWODP is nearly finished I don't think the floats will survive much longer at all.
After 14 years even Aurora's reliable float broke down on Friday.

Is that a CM just above the tow vehicle? Should be she be standing on whatever she's standing on? :)
It's incredible to think that unit's been going for 14 years though... I'm surprised it hasn't just fallen apart by now.
The characters on those floats must feel so embarrassed to wave and smile for over a couple of minutes to the same people over and over again. :D
Quote from: "Baloo"It's incredible to think that unit's been going for 14 years though... I'm surprised it hasn't just fallen apart by now.
It had a break between 1998 and 2001 though
what was the parades in 1997 (5th anniversary) and 1998 called?
in 1997 was the hunchback of nature dam carnival ans they had the 5th aniversary parade and 1998 was the first year of the wonderful world of disney parade but it was MUCH bigger. they made wwodp for year of disney classics
Another new line-up!
- Cinderella
- Snow White
- Sleeping Beauty
- Mary Poppins
- The Little Mermaid
- Beauty and the Beast
- Aladdin
- Steamboat Willie
That's almost in chronological order, except for Steamboat Willie and Snow White. Cinderella is a good float to lead with, I think. Makes more sense to tag Mickey and Minnie on at the end as an extra rather than stick them at the front on a float which doesn't belong in the parade. Nice change, DLRP!
