Title: PanoraMagique - webcam, new balloon
Post by: ICHAPMAN on September 07, 2009, 02:31:15 PM
Hi,

Not seen this mentioned before, but I note that the operators of the Panormagique Ballon in the Village have updated the website to include a WebCam.

http://www.panoramagique.com/webcam (http://www.panoramagique.com/webcam)

Not the most impressive of images, shame it doesn't 'track' the ballon, but it's a start.  Thought I'd share!.

Regards

Iain.

The news on the Panoramagique webcam has already been mentioned here (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=6031) ;)

Ah sorry, The Sorcerer's Workshop isn't an area of the board I tend to follow.

This can be a topic for the webcam. It's resort news after all.

And great news, too! Now you can see just how short the balloon flights are for your €12!

LOL, i can tell this is going to keep us DLRP Geeks intrested, constantly watching panoramagique going up and down. Anyway good news for iphone/ipod touch users too. Download the WorldView app and search Disney. And this webcam is available on there, save it as your bookmark. And check up on panoramagique as much as you want

Is there an emergency procedure in place, in the event of that single cable breaking? I know, it's a steel cable, but what would happen if it came undone? Can they get the balloon down somehow?
Title: Re: Panormagique Webcam
Post by: RnRCj on September 08, 2009, 05:26:40 PM
^I've thought about that too. Doesn't a member of staff go up with the guests? Maybe they would just slowly let air out of the baloon and hope it lands in a nice place...
Title: Re: Panormagique Webcam
Post by: Anthony on September 08, 2009, 06:05:06 PM
I'm glad I went on for the first time last week before reading those thoughts, thanks! But yes, if somehow something went wrong with that huge cable, it's hard not to think you'd be doomed. There is an attendant on board, they just ask you to spread out evenly after taking off. Anyway, it felt safer than I'd expected, more like a lift going up.

The only downside is the length of the "flight" like I said above. I just about finished filming going up (video coming soon, plug), madly snapped about 10 photos of different areas and then we were coming down. Pff. It must be a good earner, seeing those people in the queue now at 6pm in low-season.

It'd be great if this is still there when the new hotel and DV extension starts going up opposite (so, 2050?).

DLP have a bad reputation for their lifts!

I knew I should have specified not a Tower of Terror lift.

No, it feels really smooth and not at all precarious like I expected.

@Anthony

Sorry, didn't mean to put you off :-)

Yeah, if that cable broke or snapped I think you would be doomed. Death pretty much guaranteed. The attendant couldn't really do much, other than narrate your journey up into space, before the balloon popped due to the low pressure of the air around it, which would send you plummeting back to earth, hopefully landing on the Walt Disney Studios and destroying Animagique ;-)

I know what you mean about it feeling like a lift, but I personally felt it was more like being on a boat. It had the same kind of buoyant floaty feeling. It felt really safe to me, and like you said, not at all precarious.

The ride lasts about 6 minutes, doesn't it. It could perhaps do with being 10 minutes long. Thing is, when you get to the top and it stops moving, some people might either get scared or bored if it stayed up there too long. But a couple of extra minutes wouldn't hurt.

I look forward to seeing your video.

I remember reading when Characters in Flight debuted at WDW that the pilot can manually release the helium and bring the balloon down.

Oh, really? He can bring the balloon down slowly? That's great.

But what about the other way round? What if the balloon pops while you're in the air? Do they have a plan b for that situation?

Maybe the material for the balloon means it cannot pop, or there are multiple layers of material.  :P

Yes! Exactly what I thought! :P

If it popped though... probably not much you can do there. Just come crashing down.

Maybe try and land in the water...

But honestly, you'd be more likely to get run over and killed by that hideous white road train on the way to ride PanoraMagique than be part of some horrible incident on-board.

Life has its perils!

Lol, what is that?

I think the Village needs more 'unique' attractions like this. Getting rid of the bungee's and that silly carousel were massive steps forward in removing the common tack. With these plans for the WoD store and new hotels etc, the village is really starting to take shape. We just need another large attraction like this.

Replace the NEX arcade with a smaller version of WDW's Disney Quest !  :)

He's got some guts doing that!

It would be cool if the balloon got some kind of LED lighting package, so that it twinkles like a swirling ball of pixie dust in the night sky.

It had definately faded over the years and I guess safety measures required it to be replaced? I'm sure they're not just creating a new balloon because they'd like an alternative design. Some funky lighting would be great. That end of Disney Village and the lake could look amazing at night. Does it really generative a lot of money then? I always considered it as a great idea but not massively popular...
Title: Re: PanoraMagique Webcam
Post by: Willow on March 24, 2010, 12:47:49 AM
I hope its not like the characters in flight baloon (wdw) its so boring and underinteresting.

Will there be a new design? It should be magical and maybe not have any characters.

The Paris version looks so much more appealing than WDW's.

Post by: Anthony on March 24, 2010, 01:22:17 AM
Since the balloon is incorporated into bits of the booth (not to mention the logo, tickets, leaflets, etc) I doubt it'll change. Hopefully just a bright new one, same lovely design.

I can't imagine the resort without PanoraMagique now...

So far there is a small difference. The stars on the new balloon are black instead of white.

The colours seem a bit toned down too, but that could be due to the webcam.

Old:

New (so far):

As you can now see, the balloon is basically the same as before but with much brighter colours. It really does show how much the old balloon faded.

The colour scheme is slightly different though, isn't it?

For instance, the ballon drawings on the sides are now yellow (don't think it's the light), they were orange-red before!

Spot the difference... the old balloon:

So I guess I'm not the only one checking the (slow) progress in their webcam!

Yep, refreshing it every 10 minutes or so!

Noticed the yellow design change too. The new balloon also seems to be missing a small white stripe the old one had just below the first dark blue section. It now appears to go straight from navy blue to light blue.

I have to admit, after totally falling for DLRP Today's "Panoramagique with Mickey and Friends" last week (for some very long moments, until I realised it was April 1st), I'm so delighted to see the balloon looking this good  :D

I have never experienced Panoramagique, but I think it is a great attraction at DLRP. The new balloon looks beautiful, although there is no big difference to the old one, but it looks so much better than the one in at Downtown Disney in Florida.

Do you know if the balloon in Florida is produced and operated by the same company like at DLRP?

Being a bit vague here as its been a while. Where will you have to stand to see Tink? (Thats if the raid doesnt get her!) I'm thinking stand facing NPB. If so, in my little opinion I think it would've looked great actually walking through Disney Village and seeing her. But thats just my thoughts.

The whole balloon is free to rotate when it's in the air, so I believe Tinkerbell's position changes throughout the day.

However, this would have been a PERFECT opportunity to give the Ballon an "Up" theme. I mean c'mon, thats like a perfect match?!?

However I'm fairly sure Aérophile can't do anything different with the shape of the balloon, so all they've got to work with is a sphere.

In 2005 it was reported they signed a 7-year contract with DLP. I presume that's been extended... anyone know?

It's €12 for adults and €6 for children, with discount for Euro Disney Shareholders.

You can also save a Euro buying tickets online: http://www.panoramagique.com/fr/billetterie (http://www.panoramagique.com/fr/billetterie%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

^ Also, McDonalds do a special meal for 12Euros. A standard adult meal, plus one ticket to ride Panoramagique. So basically you get a free meal :D
