The current monorails will hopefully be phased out, I guess.

I love the design of the new ones, reminds me a lot of the original 1959 version!  :D

Just a little update about the Mark VII's:

Both monorail orange and blue have been taken apart (orange at WDI Hollywood and Blue at burke enterprises Canada) and also rumours are floating that 1 of the monorails have returned too DLR. while i was over there monorail red and purple were operating fully not in the shuttle mode. Also the newly referbished station has reopened

So it looks on track (or beam hehe) for the $10+ million referbishment of the beloved monorail

(Pictures fro mouse planet and darkbeer with some info from visions fantastic)

The new design looks great, better than the old one. Does anybody know if WDI will change the monorails in WDW too?

I´m afraid not in the near future, as all the monorails at WDW had a rehab in 2007 with several changes inside (handrails etc.).

Oh, and it´s too expensive, as they are operating a lot more monorails than in DLR.

But if there´s something in the planning, I´d love to see an expansion to DHS and AK, too.

I highly doubt that too, as it´s just too expensive. Someone on another website (who claims to have some sources in WDI)  said that it would cost around 1 to 3 million $ per mile.

I did not know that Disneyland had a Monorail track too. I have never been there, but is the parc not way too small for this. There are no hotels, for the monorail to go to, right? So, where does it go to?

I think theres 2 stops, one in tommorowland and one in down town disney. There might be an extra one at the disneyland hotel but im not sure.

There's two stops one in tomorrowland and one in Downtown disney - this used to be known as the disneyland hotel station. The monorail also passes the golden gate bridge

Heres a few more piccys i found :)

after a problematic 1st run the Mark VII Monorail seems to be doing more and more test runs in the park.

Gorgeous.

It's like classic 1959 meets the iPod generation. (With a bit of modern bling in the form of blue neons inside...)

Just wondering... Will Walt Disney World be updating its fleet anytime soon, or isn't there really a need?

Wow, the new Mark VII monorails look absolutely stunning. Very fresh and retro at the same time.

No, I am afraid they won't. But at least the current fleet can use a refurbishment and a paintjob in my opinion. Especially after seeing this recent pic from BigPigletFan at MiceAge you can notice the difference.

Wasn't also one of the reasons that it would be more expensive since WDW has a bigger fleet of monorails or is this incorrect?

yup ypour completley right! Another reason is that recently all the Mark VI Trains at WDW recieved new touch screen computer systems in every train
From the Brick:
Too the Flat screen
(//http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/31/Monorail_Controls_2006.12.05-12.38.12.jpg/800px-Monorail_Controls_2006.12.05-12.38.12.jpg)

If WDW do decide to convert too the new Mark VII design i also think they will look out of place especially at Epcot and the Resorts

I just talked to a friend of mine who works at WDW at one of the monorail stations and explained me some things about why it won't happen soon. Off course you have those new panels but also just like in DLR there only runs 1 monorail till the Mark VII goes into operation but it isn't much of a problem for DLR because it isn't so big and almost everything is in walking distance. WDW however has a bigger piece of ground and the monorail is more important to hotel visitors. If they only run 1 monorail there lines at the stations would be huge and parks could possibly have lower attendance while only 1 monorail runs.

I want the blue one!! From under the covers it looks so awesome... and the red ones are pretty cool too... The colurs remind me of Mickey and Donald's clothing colors just with a metallic and futuristic shimmer! Just hope they stay like it!
