Disneyland Paris just officially announced that It's a Small World Celebration will take place from Nov 21st .
i read this at micechat.com.. it would be really cool if they bring it really back!
What happens at 'It's a small world celebration'? I haven't heard of it before? :? :)
I would have been shocked if it did not, it has been running for about 10 years now. Basically there are more ornate christmas/Hannukah/Divali etc. costumes for winter celebrations on the children, as well as lots of additional lights and festival decor inside. The music is a medley of Deck the halls, Jingle Bells and IAWS after All.
It is not quite as ornate as the California version where they have christmas lights on the outside of the building too.
It is cute, even if the music does not match as well as it is a direct life from the California version which is in a different order.
Ah ok, thanks for explaining davewasbaloo! So basicaly it's just changes that take place in the small world attraction itself to meet the festive season?!
There are some photos on PhotosMagiques;

I was under the impression aswell that It's A Small World Celebration dissapeared in the last few years. Are you sure it never went away? Well, I am glad they take the time and effort to create a seasonal overlay for one of their attractions.
However, I am even more excited for the new Tree Lightning Ceremony on Town Square (and perhaps the new Christmas tree which was supposed to be there last year already). If they would bring back the old Tree Lightning soundtrack, it would be truly the best Christmas season since they got rid of the Arches of Winter. :)

I was not aware it disappeared, but I cannot endure the cold and crowds anymore at winter, it has not been worth it since the lights of winter and christmas fireworks disappeared. Man, I miss those days.
Yeah, two ceremonies could be an interesting idea. I'm sure the Tree Lighting music will stay quite similar and the Castle ceremony is merely a revised festive finale for It's Party Time with Mickey and Friends.
After spending so long adding those lights to the Central Plaza Stage last year, wonder what they'd do for the brand new one. Anyway, back on topic. The celebration will be a great addition and a good choice to publicise it rather than just let it happen like it has in the past. Another un heard of gem

Yes, they had discontinued it a couple of years ago. And nobody seemed to miss it - except me... :(
So: yes! :D/ Great news!
I might even start considering a Christmas trip again... could this be a step back to a more refined Christmas season like they used to have?
(Seasonal events at DLP have really gone down hill...)

My wife missed it too, her favourite part of the Christmas celebration apparently :-k , she s very happy its going to be back and is now humming that tune ](*,)
Here's the confirmation from the French Christmas press release.
Quote"it's a small world" Celebration
It basically says that the different countries in "its a small world" celebrate Christmas each in their way. :)
Too bad the overlay hasn't been mentioned on the 'new' Christmas site. I use that term loosely as it's largely the same as last year (15th branding everywhere I might add).
Seems a shame to go to extra trouble and expense and not advertise it. DLP usually likes milking these things :P
So will IASW be closed on the 19th and 21st of November ? x
(btw , sorry i haven't been on lately , been very busy with school )

It's A Small World will be closed from 9th till 20th november for a refurb and the installation of the Christmas overlay.
You'll be able to ride it on the 21st and be the first to see the Christmas version in action.
Thanks . It depends because on the 21st November it is our last day on Paris and we leave the park at 12-1pm :'( . So what time does its a small world open ? x
Its open from 10am.

Thanks for the information , guys ! BTW , does CDG have a Costa Coffee inside ? x
Wow, this is awesome news!!!! I never had the chance to experience the Christmas Version of IASW. This "transformation" is a classic tradition for the US versions, so I am really looking forward to finally be able to see it!
Are there any chances for a soft opening on Nov. 20.
We'll be leaving on this day and little one will miss out IASW completely :( And she loved it so much during our stay in June. We had to ride it about 5 times every day.
The puppets for The Netherlands (and Belgium) appeared! Don't know if they existed before, but they do look quite funny!
Ooh, and there not for Christmas actually...
They are from Saint Nicholas :) ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinterklaas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinterklaas) )

The doll on the left looks like a mixture of santa claus and the pope (no disrespect to either) lol :P
Yep, he looks like a mixture of those indeed  But I think it's funny that they're in IASW, cause instead of Santa Clause here in Holland we have the tradition of Sinterklaas on the 5th of december.
ooo those dolls look sooo siniest outside of the ride and i see the santa/pope thing heheh looking forward to seeing it when i hit paris in december :D
:D My family and i are going back to Disney to on Dec 17th!!
X
Great picture!
I just love those dolls of our little 'Sinterklaas en zwarte piet' :-)
"it's a small world" Celebration opened today! First pictures from inside the ride and a great interview with costuming production manager Helene Hanquez, with thanks to Jeremie Noyer!

How is the Christmas version of the song? Is it very different?
This time next week, I could be in there...

Those signs are flawless! Good to see quality graphic design from the seasonal entertainment people. (Although I suspect they might not have done this.)
It's also good to see this ride get a little affection and attention for a change. The Parisian "'small world" always feels a little unloved compared to the madly popular versions in the States. Maybe if it's a big enough hit, it might inspire Euro Disney to give the exterior a minor fixer-upper... Change a few light bulbs, do a little scrubbing. (Are you reading this, Disney?)
When we were there on the 9th and 10th they were doing more than putting in the christmas bits and bobs you could see painting of the loading area and what looked like a general spruce up, im going again tomorrow so im going to see if this attraction is looking like its received some refurb lovin
What suprised me is that they've changed the full area musical loop around the attraction to a Small World Christmas Mix. Really makes this area come alive a bit more.

Well suspected; from what I've gathered seasonal entertainment didn't have much to do with this year's "Celebration". Its project manager comes from a business-related department and was a long-time operational cast member. When he proposed the project he was given a very tight budget and in my opinion made the most of it, not least because he's very hands-on and did a lot of things himself.
As for the graphics and music, he enlisted a friend of his (also a former operator) in the merchandise division to do the graphic design and audio mixing. The signage was then physically produced in the resort's Central Shops while Imagineering and the audio maintenance crew installed the new music.
They used the long-planned refurbishment to install the overlay, so yes, the attraction itself was improved at the same time.

I never did understand why they decided to get rid of this!?! Anyway, it's fantastic to see it return; a real breath of fresh air :)

Interesting as always!
So this project manager, evidently a man of skill and vision, will he be doing anything else in the near future? There's a certain late-October holiday with his name written all over it. In orange spray paint.

I'm sure there will be more to expect from him in the future if Celebration is received well. As a former colleague, I'm really proud of what he achieved.
Wishful thinking aside, I don't think that Halloween is going to change "owners" any time soon, though... I hear they're already preparing next year's -- uuh, decoration.
How long does this version of the ride go on for? I'm heading over for the 18th of January and would be great to see this!

February 15th 2010, I think.
One thing I am unclear of. Is this brand new music, or simply the return of the Jingle Bells/Deck the Halls/IASW medley?
I love this version, it so great. Especially cool is the portayal of the non Christians - the jews with the Menorah, the Africans and Asians. Love it.
I can't believe it went away. Anyway, that is not important. What is important is the fact it is back! :D
Quote from: "davewasbaloo"One thing I am unclear of. Is this brand new music, or simply the return of the Jingle Bells/Deck the Halls/IASW medley?
It's the Jingle Bells/Deck the Halls/Small World music from California, which for the first time has been adapted in its entirety for the Paris version. In previous years, only the first and last two scenes used a few of these tracks.
The queue line and station feature a new mix of various tracks from the attraction. It's edited roughly like the regular area music, but incorporating Jingle Bells and Deck the Halls.
I'm so sad i didn't get to see this on my trip.
I love it, I actually agree with Dave why on earth did they take it away? I hope its a regular addition now to the Christmas festivities.
I'm hoping to see this tonight! [-o<
So how is "it's a small world" Celebration? Thoughts, comments...
