Title: Epcot_Boy's Summer Visit 27/7-1/8
Post by: Epcot_Boy on August 03, 2009, 07:57:54 PM
The long awaited day had arrived........Disneyland Paris here I come. :D/

MONDAY 27th July 2009

After a lovely relaxing night at the Holiday Inn Ashford I was pumped up and ready to go, a quick check in for Eurostar and away we go. 2 and a bit hours later and I was checking into the Hotel New York.

It went really smoothly and soon I was entering room 124 on the ground floor just a skip and a jump to the pool and health club. I was a bit concerned that it might be noisy but as time went on my fears disapated and it was a fairly quiet room. The room was what you would expect for the HNY, very clean and appealing, yep I was satisfied.
Thought I'd have a quick drink from the mini bar before setting out for the DLP and while I did thought I'd have a look at the room service menu....I had to laugh, if this was their idea of a menu for room service in a 4* hotel then I'm a monkeys uncle and funnily it wasn't even really a 24 menu, only stodgy pizzas on offer late at night.
Well I wasn't going to be grumpy, after all I was on my hols..

Through Disney village and into the magical place that is Disneyland Park..

There was the Disney Transportation Service to greet me..
Some lovely ballons, if I was younger I would really buy one of those, but now I would feel rather foolish..
On the right of Town Square I could see my old prams, now where did they get them?..

And then it was time for a very very slow stroll down Main Street USA, a magical street which I absolutely adore, everything about it makes me tingle inside. I love the architecture of City Hall (Strickly Town Square I suppose), I love watching the Horse Dawn Streetcar running up and down, the Main Street Vehicles remind me of a time gone by (A romantic vision I suppose unlike the reality of the time). The smells of the Cookie Kitchen, Market House deli and Victoria's all help to add a few pounds to my waistline at the end of a visit..

Then I noticed someone was missing......now where did he go?

Yep, Main Street is a magical place, yes indeedy..
And then at the end of the street, Central Plaza and just beyond..Sleeping Beauty Castle..

I can stare at this wonderful vision for ages and I wonder how many photographs I have taken of this castle over the years, it must be in the hundreds and hundreds..

Well now into Frontierland and time for me to break a long standing tradition (Well my tradition that is)..Normally I don't go on any rides on the first day of a visit, just prefering to take in the atmosphere. However, as I wondered past the Keelboats I was amazed to find that there was only a short waiting time, so I thought why not...........
[youtube:20s5gb2w]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vW6ak951Gcg[/youtube:20s5gb2w]

Loved it!!

Now it was time to head out of the park for a buffet at Billy Bob's. Although it filled a hole the buffet is not what it was, for instance the spare ribs were indeed 'spare' of meat, the hot food was to put it mildly luke warm and all in all it was pretty well unimaginative..yep not what it was.

Back to the park for 'Party Time' with Mickey and friends at 8.15...

another little wander around and then it was time for...Fantillusion and the Enchanted fireworks. However, just before the fireworks I love the 'Sparkly' Castle..

[youtube:20s5gb2w]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9MiRPg2q08[/youtube:20s5gb2w]

Neat isn't it?

Well, fireworks over I struggled back to the HNY and collapsed onto my bed, well and truly puffed!!

First day over, and a tired Epcot_Boy drifted into sleep, dreaming of the day to come.

Great trip report and I loved the photos! Never seen the big sign on the front of the emporium in any other pictures. Can't wait to see the rest.
One question - What was the breakfast room like in the NY? I heard the restaurants are being refurbished.

PS: As for the man outside the emporium - He's in the Cable Car buying brownies :D. Hard work standing still for so long.

Great start to your trip report. I would have posted sooner, but my daughter caught sight of all those Minnie Mouse balloons and wouldn't let me scroll down for about 5 mins (I think I know what's at the top of her shopping list)

Yes both restaurants have been closed for refurishment and breakfast is held in 2 of the conference halls, there's plenty of room and there was never a large queue. in the evening they have a rather naff med. buffet in the Radio City Conference hall..it really is poor, for a 4* hotel not to have a decent restaurant in the summer months is pretty poor I think :(

Wonderful report so far EB!

Your description of Main Street is brilliant - that's exactly how I feel walking around it. It's a shame so many people just rush trough it and don't take the time to take in all the details...

Your pictures are great, I love the colours.

Really looking forward to the rest!  :D

Great trip report and photos. Your issues with the restaurants and room service are part of what annoyed me on our last stay.

Great trip report so far Epcot_Boy!
I love your photographs! and I must say, I too love the sparkly castle!
I also love that you filmed it! because I love that time of the night when its all sparkly and you wait for the fireworks and you can hear the mainstreet music loop really well, because even though people are around talking, they always seem quieter (maybe thats because they're all tired from the day  :D ) and I just adore that time!

 =D>  =D>  =D>

I'm well and truly looking forward to the rest

Lovely report. Made me in a slightly better mood than I have been the last week or so, so thanks for that. You pics look magic, almost unreal. You must have a good camera. By the way, who did you go with on the trip? Your family? Or were you alone? Looks like you had a great time so far and I'm looking forward to the next part. :)

Me too, and after the fireworks have just finished..lovely =D>

MizzRabbit asked:

The last 3 trips I have visited on my own, all previous visits were with family or friends. I love going on my own however because being purely selfish I can do what I want when I want :)

I used to hump a DSLR around with me until I discovered the Panasonic LX3 compact, it's a wonderful compact and I would recommend it to anyone who wants nice pictures but doesn't want to hump around a DSLR. The LX3 has a leica lense which really helps with Image Quality.

TUESDAY 28th JULY 2009

Well I don't know about you but I really dislike wasting time time lollying in bed when at DLRP, no matter how tired...so I was a bit miffed when I woke up at 9.30am having forgotten to set my alarm clock, there's a first for everything I suppose.
Anyhow I was soon watered and fed and off to the parks. However as I left the HNY and looking out of the entrance I could see the lovely Newport and the given appearance that it was surounded by water fountains, I thought it looked really nice.

[youtube:1xynd2hu]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9RNQyxL3nM[/youtube:1xynd2hu]

So having watched this beautiful site for a mo I was then off to the parks. One of my biggest problems when at DLRP is that I can never plan anything and if I try it all goes out the window as soon as I get there, so I normally just take things as they come.
Anyway, by the time I had walked through Disney Village, It was a toss up, 'DP or WS'? Well I found myself vearing towards the compass, so it was the Studios here I come.
I love the grand entrance to the studios and especially once in the buildings that house the Studio services and the Studios store/Photo Store.

Of course you can't miss the Earful Tower (I have stood around this area for ages and ages trying to get a special backgound shot with the ET, never managed to get one that satisfies me though!).

You also can't miss Mickey right there in the middle as a Sorcerer I think. Yep this is a great little area.

To add to the fun as I walked in was a band playing away, added nicely to the atmosphere.

So watched them for a while and then it was through the DS and into the park proper. And there as always were Walt and Mickey to meet me. Seems that time I see this statue it brings a great big smile to my face, a magical statue.

Where to go first, well as I was late then it really didn't matter I was going to have to queue anyhow, and for a long time judging by the crowds. I suppose it had to be TT....and yes I did have to queue, for ever it seemed.

But I loved it, as I always do.
Next up was....ummmmmm..the Studio Tram tour. I've been on this more times than I care to remember and to be honest it's looking a bit worn to me, sort of 'long in the tooth', but hey that's just me.
It was now 12.30 and time for.....Sigh High School Musical!? It doesn't really do much for me but the kids seem to love it and I can get just as much pleasure from watching them dancing to the music as any pleasure I can get from a ride. So I guess it does it's job then...

Next it was burger time and then onto Animagique and after that across to the Toon Studio area to have a rest and a laugh, not I assure you to go on any rides. However here are some quick vids of a couple of the attractions.

[youtube:1xynd2hu]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Is--NbTpBA[/youtube:1xynd2hu]

[youtube:1xynd2hu]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L57Qx98jsS0[/youtube:1xynd2hu]

My final ride today in the studios was Crush's Coaster, part of Toon stdio I guess so yes I did have one ride.

[youtube:1xynd2hu]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJmh_zznrzw[/youtube:1xynd2hu]

It was time now to head out of the park to my Hotel for a quick freshen up before evening dinner, at the Newport, another buffet. The problem with arriving late as I had done is that you really can't get in all the rides you would like, my alarm clock will certainly be set tonight.

As I left the Studios I noticed that Panoramagique was looking particularily scenic, very nice.

I'm afraid this buffet also was not what it was and I could go on for ever about how bad it was, but I wont.

Well I now headed back to the parks, Disneyland Park would obviously be on the agenda tonight. As I approached the village once again Panoramagique looked delightful, really excellent.

It was relatively late so I was really just going to get Fantillusion and the Fireworks, but Sleeping Beautys Castle was looking particularily wonderful as the sun set.

And once again it was lovely and sparkly..

[youtube:1xynd2hu]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILKskSvhekI[/youtube:1xynd2hu]

And just before the Fireworks...a lovely silhouette..great..I just can't get enough of the castle.

Well, tuesday was drawing to an end and it was time to head back...and this time I would remember to set the alarm clock.

I love the Panoramagique pictures. I always find it so magical walking around the parks and spotting the Panoramagique in the sky! :D

pity about the buffet at the Newport...hope your meals out picked up!

Another great chapter and even more amazing picture EB!

I'm exactly the same when I go to Disney, no time to sleep! People who come with me always complain when I set the alarm for 7am every day...

But to come back to the pictures, they're really beautiful. And these three are stunning. Thank you so much for sharing them  =D>

Wow, your photos are absolutely brilliant, Epcot-Boy!!!  =D> I love them all!

And I can understand your anger about waking up so late so much!! I also hate it when I get to the parks late, as it was last December when I planned to arrive at DLP at 8.30 am, but because there was so much snow on the streets we didn't arrive before 9.45 for the check-in and when we arrived at the Studios, it was sooo full of crowds there :(! We only did 2 or 3 attractions on this day at the Studios

But you have to be lucky you could go on Crush's, it was broken down during our last visit :(!

Even though the LX3 isn't designed to take a filter I managed to find an attachment which allows me to use either a Neutral Density filter or a Polarizer. Filters can make a huge difference to your pics as can being able to adjust your white balance manually.

Truly amazing trip report with some absolutely stunning photographs  :D/  =D>

As many others have said the colors are simply amazing - creating a special and extra magical atmosphere in all of your photos. And you are right - it is amazing how much a filter or two can do to your pictures.

Your report has really made me excited to go on a "photo hunt", when I visit DLP in october this year :D

Hey Epcot_Boy :D

Sorry i haven't got reading this earlier, i've just been busy.  I love your trip report so far, your photos are amazing! =D>

Also i have to say a big well done for actually bothering to do a trip report and make it a success, unlike my one (which i am now not calling a Trip Report, it's a Fail Report  ).

Looking forward to the next installments :D/

Do you have a filter on your camera or something? The light is really beautiful in all your pictures.

Even though the LX3 isn't designed to take a filter I managed to find an attachment which allows me to use either a Neutral Density filter or a Polarizer. Filters can make a huge difference to your pics as can being able to adjust your white balance manually.

Thanks!  :D

WEDNESDAY 29th JULY 2009

This morning I was up with the lark, bushy tailed and ready to go. First, breakfast. I have to say I have no complaints with the HNY breakfast buffet, which has all the usuals plus sausages (Veal I think!?), streaky bacon, scrambled egg and fried potatoes........not bad at all and it really can set you up for the day, so well done HNY for that.
It was still only 8.00am and I didn't really see the point in taking up the whole 2 hours of EMH so decided to take a detour around Disney Lake before going through the village to the parks.
All three 'Lake' hotels were looking pretty smart, from the outside anyhow..

Anyhow, morning stroll over and into Disneyland Park. A 10 minute stop in Town Square just to soak up the atmosphere. More 'Minnie Ballons', looking extremely colourful and then a sit down on that seat.

Next along came my favourite form of transportation, I just have to have a ride.

Next instead of venturing up Main Street straight away it was up Liberty Arcade and a read of the wall art, french immigration, that sort of thing and then a look in Dapper Dan's which was closed, as it always is when I'm there. Here's a question, is this now always shut or does it actually open these days?
Anyhow that was fun, but being the strange chap I am instead of moving off into one of the lands it was now back down Discovery Arcade to Town Square.
Arcades finished with back up Main Street and look at the information board. Main Street was getting busy as the merry holiday makers started to flood in.

And then coming up behind me...'Good Morning Main Street USA (Paris)'..

[youtube:334kihii]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmbekQjxxto[/youtube:334kihii]

Now even an old bloke me finds himself hopping and a skipping to this one..

That was fun and now it was off to Frontierland, first a ramble over the fort and say hello to Buffalo Bill and then an attempt to use the telescopes, which are pretty well useless. Anyhow it provided a good look down to FL. Joined the queue for PM and sometime later was amongst the ghosts..

Next it was across to Big Thunder Mountain, which has a horrendous queue, but that's the price you pay for never planning anything. I just love that first plunge. This ride I'm sure will have me back several more times before my trip is over.

[youtube:334kihii]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELPeFHDiQaU[/youtube:334kihii]

BTM over and it was time for some leisurely boating, into the Mesa Riverboat landing, which always makes me think of cows being hurded.
The Mark Twain was looking dapper and we were soon on our way..

[youtube:334kihii]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIuyTtlDFQM[/youtube:334kihii]

When on the MT it always reminds me of some of his quotes that were told to me many moons ago, and the one I remember mostly is..'The Human race has one really effective weapon, and that is laughter', it sort of sums up the humour in this ride and the park in general.
After the pleasant ride up the Mississippi it was time to head for Goofy and see his summer camp. The show was okish but I have seen better.

After summer camp it was time for a change in direction and theme and I headed towards food, and then onto Fantasyland and a stroll around the Labyrinth. I do enjoy this, especially all the wonderful colours.

The weather today was really hot so I decided to head over to Adventure Isle to find some hide aways. I often sit down around here and wonder what it must have been like in times gone bye when pirates ruled the waves or there were no magical communication devices to tell people you had got lost. I must admit I love Adventure Isle and I can spend many a happy hour wandering around it, letting my imagination run wild.

It is amazing how time flies and now it was time to head back and freshen up at the hotel because late this afternoon I was to meet some special people, fellow members of the MF. Before I left though I had a look back at the Castle. I don't know if it was me or not, but I thought all the flower arrangements around the resort were looking really colourful this summer, what do you think?

A couple of hours later and standing at the compass where Toonarmylass with young Matthew and the ford_prefect family.
It was great to meet up with them and we headed towards the Sports Bar for a chin wag.

Finally, however we had to say our farewells and head off to our different reservations etc. It was great to have met them, especially young Matthew who was looking really great after his past tribulations, I bet Toonarmylass is one proud Mum.

Now it was time for dinner, and this time it was at the Steakhouse in the village. I must say, I was very satisfied, very satisfied indeed. This was more like it, and at £21 good value for money.

Well because I had taken longer than normal to savour my meal it was getting late so I rushed back to the park as the sun prepared to say it's farewell.
I thought the DisneyLand Hotel was looking particularily Gothic tonight..

Up Main Street and just in time for some more Party time, which I must admit I am now beginning to warn too.

It was beginning to get dark now so went back over some of my earlier tracks, the Mark Twain was looking elegant moored for the night.

Back to the castle just in time for.........yep you got it..........Sparkly castle......fanta and then enchanted.

[youtube:334kihii]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdkVYfMAbSE[/youtube:334kihii]

Another good day and time to head off to the bar at the HNY for a nightime........sparkling water.

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments and joining me on the ride.

THURSDAY 30th JULY 2009

Well this morning I was up and about before the alarm clock clicked into action and soon I was standing ready for my breakfast. It reminded me of those people you some times see standing outside pubs waiting for the doors to open. It was once again a tasty breakky and soon I was heading off to the village. For no other reason than to say that I had had a coffee there I stopped at Starbucks and sat outside for a while watching the hotel crowds heading to the parks. It was funny watching the groups of people marching along in anticipation of the delights to come. The small children made me laugh as their little legs worked overtime to keep up with the larger adult members charging to their destination. I wondered who was more excited, the children or Mum and Dad.
Coffee over, and to be honest as some one who rarely drinks coffee it tasted ok to me, High Street chain or not...and off to the Disneyland Park and into the glorious Town Square.
It was really looking colourful this morning, absolutely lovely.

I would be back here at about 13.30 to see Mary Poppins, something I had missed so far this visit.
The horse-drawn vehicle was looking spendid and I wondered firstly what the horse's name was and secondly if his relatives would have had such a comfortble life as clearly he was having, somehow I doughted it.

The little chap you can see in the photo was soon to get a shock. As he tried to get closer to the horse for a better picture the horse suddenly turned his head around slightly brushing against the child, I've never seen anybody run so fast back to the safety of his mum, not so brave hey..

It was indeed a lovely summers day at Disneyland Paris, and I have to admit I felt a little dopey, I was really excited. Silly old twit.

[youtube:3o8nz8zq]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1-YJImw0zI[/youtube:3o8nz8zq]

I had wondered up Main Street behind 'Good Morning MS USA' and had I had someone with me I would have linked hands and hopped and skipped up Main Street........
At the central plaza I spent sometime watching the characters. I often wonder you know when watching the characters if the cm's behind the 'masks' are enjoying themselves or if it's just another job to them, I like to think the're having as much fun as me, surely.

[youtube:3o8nz8zq]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ww0abYEC-s4[/youtube:3o8nz8zq]

My first ride destination this morning was 'Indiana Jones', simply because I had not been on the ride for a long time. You'll see from the photo that the wait time was 30 minutes, well an hour later at least I was on the ride.

Good fun. I read somewhere that it seems faster when your actually on it than when your watching it. I have to say I agree.
Next it was off to Pirates of the Caribbean. Again it was good fun, although of a far more leisurely pace than previously experienced.
In the summer months riding two of the most popular rides one after the other can really soak up the time, the morning was nearly gone.
Another experience that I hadn't visited for some time was the 'Passage Enchante of Aladdin', so I thought I'd head for that and get out of the sun for a while. Us brits are really not used to the sun, well this brit isn't.
Time for a bite to eat, pizza will do today so it was the 'Outpost' here I come.
I wanted to see Mary Poppins so I started to head back to Town Square, and on the way I encountered Minnie with some pals.

[youtube:3o8nz8zq]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUYq9-28VYs[/youtube:3o8nz8zq]

Lots has been said about this but I actually find it quite delightful.

I had misread the timetable and arrived at Town Square much to early for MP, so I just sat down and smiled to myself. And smiled and smiled until Mary turned up.

This is one of my favourite shows at DLRP, and even though it glorifies a period of British history which is nothing to shout about, I prefer to look on it as representing a wonderful film. I think it does it well, glorious.

I really enjoyed that, but now it was time to head off to the most colouful land of them all, Fantasyland. This is really a place for the younger ones amongst us........but I just love the colours and theming here. In many ways parts of this land are more 'Fun Fairish', but that doesn't take anything away from it.

Because of the nature of this land it is rare for me to go on any rides here, with the exception of 'It's a Small World'. You cannot visit a Disney park without going on it, what would Walt say?

Well hunger was now setting in and it was time to head back to the HNY and the Mediterannean buffet at the Hotel.

Warning. If your going this summer avoid it at all costs, it is truly awful. Remember, avoid the Mediterannean Buffet at the Hotel New York. Have a Hot Dog.

Well, after that disaster I left the Hotel and once again noticed how spectacular the Newport looked, really scenic.

Back into the park, the Castle was looking mighty fine this evening, and located a place to get comfortable for Fantallusion and Enchanted.

I did try to get a video of the evening parade, but my camera really wasn't happy with the light. However it did seem happy with enchanted.......so here's the 'Enchanted Fireworks', in all its glory.
Much has been written about the display this year, but it still does it for me.

TIP..for a better movie click on the 'link' and then on HQ, it's much better.

This was the fourth time this week I had seen it, you just can't beat fireworks.

Well it was time to head back, albeit slowly, and admire Main Street all lit up. Very nice indeed.

again well done =D>

I love the up close picture of mary and bert with the castle in the background but then again I love all the photos! They are so beautiful! I'll remember to avoid the buffet in HNY...although I never eat in the hotel... I feel like I am wasting time I could be in the parks :P

FRIDAY 31st JULY 2009

Today was to be my last full day and night in the parks. The problem with taking things at a leisurely pace throughtout your holiday is that when you near the end there's so many things left to see. The last day of any Epcot_Boy's visit is always pretty hectic, for me that is, perhaps others would not consider it so...

The studios would be first today and so it was that I was soon marching through the entrance at opening time heading for Armageddon. I love the exhibits here before you go into the main 'bit' and also obviously the special effects of the show. They still make be jump and laugh at my stupidity. I don't know how many times I've seen this show but it still does it for me. Unfortunately a younger member of the audience wasn't very impressed and pleaded for release, poor thing. I guess it can be scary for the youngsters, and loud!
Next was a date with a very strong harness, Aerosmith here I come. For me it is pretty intense because I'm not really a great lover of roller coasters, and this and SM just about do it for me, their just at the level of tolerance for me.
Next up was ToT, the queue for this was absolutely horrible, it seemed to me that everyone in the park was in the queue.

It did however allow me to start up a conversation with a German couple who really helped to make the wait seem to go much quicker. The man was hilarious and had me in stitches laughing with his 'take' on the Disney experience. It was a shame that are paths did not meet afterwards.
There was more things in the Disneyland Park that I wanted to see on my last day, than in the studios so I decided to head for Animagique as a 'Farewell show'. It was as enjoyable as ever. On my Summer visits it is true to say that I do not spend as much time in the Studios as I do in Disneyland Park, mainly because I love the Park in the Summer and find that the Studios come into their own in the 'Off' season. So when I come back later in the year the Studios will get much more of my time.
So it was farewell to the studios for this holiday..........

I've also realised that the Front Lot is a good place to get some nice pics of PM with a nice foreground. Here's one more of it peeping over mickey.

Well I was off to the Park now and as I entered there was this lovely band playing before me..

[youtube:3me488jc]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5_5fcjYR8Y[/youtube:3me488jc]

This was the kind of 'Streetmosphere' that had seemed to be missing for me, especially in the studios, so it was good to see it here.

Town Square was looking wonderful as usual and I took this video of Main Street as I kind of experiment. Not sure if it works really, the reader can decide.

[youtube:3me488jc]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBtzQpxJPNo[/youtube:3me488jc]

Then just as I was to march up Main Street to Discoveryland Minnie came out at the side of me.

[youtube:3me488jc]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4l24_oPGfow[/youtube:3me488jc]

I followed her and her friends up Main Street and stopped at CP to take a few snaps.

Whatever you think about 'Minnie's Party Train' you have to admit it's very colourful, very red.

Before heading off to Discoveryland I decided to have a quick look around the Castle and a climb up to view Fantasyland from up high. I love being here when the park is open late and the sun sets over the building tops of Fantasyland. I wonder if this is what the view was like in days gone by in such places as Oslo or even Copenhagen or even the small Italian village where Pinocchio lived. Beautiful...

But I had no time today to wait for sunset..

I had planned to go to SM but this had now put me in the mood for a quick visit to le Pays des Contes de Fees and Casey Jr. because I was feeling in a 'FairyTailish' mood. Even though I wasn't going to go on any of the rides and I would sit there for awhile and enjoy it.

It was now time for Discoveryland and in particular SM. As to be expected a there was a long wait but I was in a really 'so be it' mood. I love everything about SM and if there wasn't always such a long wait I could ride it time and time again. It has to be said though that this is as extreme as it gets for me...no Genesis for me.

[youtube:3me488jc]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poKVOVSt5XQ[/youtube:3me488jc]

I spent a while watching Orbitron, I have to admit that I have never been on this. But it looks fun for the youngsters.

[youtube:3me488jc]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGvYQzn_Q9s[/youtube:3me488jc]

I have said earlier that I love Mary Poppins and looking at my programme I decided there really was time for one more show. Off I popped back to Town Square and just made it for the show. It really is fun and one of the shows that hits the spot for me.

Now it was off to Adventure Isle, for a play around Adventure Isle. You know, I would pay the entrance fee just for this, it really can bring the child out in you. I love the suspension bridge, but I have to admit when it's crowded and moving all over the place I do get a little sweaty. It does seem a long way down, perhaps Peter Pan would catch me. Although Captain Hooks ship really doesn't have a lot going for it, it does have a beautiful design. I'm not sure however that the pirates of bygone days would have bothered to much about that. I often think I would have been a dead cert to walk the plank, an absolute certainty.

It was off to the Lucky Nugget now for dinner. I was running late when I got there but after a short wait I was inside enjoying what was the best buffet I had had on this trip. Well the cold buffet was anyhow.

Well it was now getting late and soon would be time for one last look at Fantillusion and then Enchanted.

I watched the crowds vying for the best spots. Absolutely everybody seemed to be tired but satisfied. The youngsters all seemed to be askng the same questions in the various languages..."When does it start". The various cm's walked up and down trying to encourage everybody to take part in some pre-show entertainment. Lots of waving of hands and shouting. It was great fun.
And then the parade started and the children waved and the adults stared in disbelief. It is indeed magical as is the fireworks afterwards.

As I was leaving the park, I watched the masses walking down Main Street. Tired and probably hungry, a magical day had been had by one and all.

[youtube:3me488jc]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVj9Q08pDiE[/youtube:3me488jc]

For the purpose of this trip report that's about it. Saturday, after several years of saying that I will visit Val de Europe, I will finally get to see it properly and not for a quick visit.

So my summer visit to this gloriously magical place had come to an end. Thanks for coming on this ride with me and thanks for your kind comments. Roll on November.

I leave you with my favourite photo of the trip, the Disneyland Hotel as the day slips away.

Apart from it's obvious low light limitations and anyhing over iso 400 isn't too clever the lx3 really is a fine camera. Goes with me everywhere now, well nearly everywhere

i just read this report and i think its my favourite on the trip reports thread - the reader really gets a sense of the magic and of being there through reading it. as many others have said, your photos are also wonderful
i would like to say, i really like what you did with the video on main st. usa. it was as though the band stand provided an ornate frame for the castle, and was almost like another lovely still but then you had the effect of the excited crowds. it brought a smile to my face to see so many people rushing to take snaps of this lovely view, captured all the while on video! so i think your experiment worked really well.
thanks for posting this great report :) im a newbie so thats why ive only just read it!
