Welcome to the Disney Halloweenmosphere

A full month of thrills, spills and chills galore at Disneyland Park, as Halloween invades Frontierland and Main Street, U.S.A.® with decorations, eerie events and hair-raising shows, face painting and oodles of tricks and treats. ... the stars of Nightmare Before Christmas

Jack Skellington and his friend Sally, the stars of Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas, are back to captivate Disney's Halloween Festival with their bewitching world.

... mischievous Pumpkin tricksters

When Disneyland Paris goes orange, you know the Pumpkin Men and Pumpkin Ladies can't be far away. They are just itching to splash the road and shop fronts of Main Street, U.S.A. with their bright orange paint. • Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party not only in Fantasyland but Adventureland and Frontierland
• Pumpkin Men are returning again. When will this trashing of Main Street END?!
• Disney's Once Upon a Dream Parade will "kick off" with a Halloween theme - does that mean a pre-parade or full overlay?
• For Disney's Halloween Party, it mentions a "light and sound show" - no fireworks, then? Or at least none worth advertising?

I've booked to go the first weekend of the Halloween season and have to admit I've been starting to regret that choice as I wanted to photograph, well, everything in Main Street and suddenly realised that of course, it's all going to be orange.

But have to admit, the news of the Nightmare Before Christmas involvement has got me excited again as I've never seen those characters before.

While we were wating for Fantillusion last Friday they were doing a photoshoot on the CP stage - we saw a pumpkin prop and as we waited Mickey and some of the villans arrived to take part in the shoot.  They all left before the parade arrived in CP - here some quickly taken pics not with best camera (click on thumbnail to view larger).

Sounds good to me!! I'm just delighted that Jack and Sally are coming back, I loved them last year.

It sounds like the Villains show they had last year is not coming back, instead they'll do their bit in the Party Time. Have to wait and see what that is like...

Personally I love Main Street over Halloween, sure it's better without any decorations, but the pumpkin men and all the orange everywhere... well I think it's fun. I guess I'm lucky in that lately I've been going to DLP a few times a year, so I can enjoy Main Street with and without decorations. But personally all the MMP signs (and before that the 15th anniversary) bother me a lot more!

i adore the halloween festival at disneyland. i can't believe it that there are jack and sally now. i always dreamed of it since i heard from the christmas design of phantom manor in WDW/Disneyland (I don't know exactly which parc it was). I hope they won't stop releasing the characters on halloween, because i don't know when i'm going to Disneyland on halloween the next time. i actually wanted to go on eastern next year. i'm very amazed right now!

Nothing that we weren't really expecting then, but it still sounds good. I like the fact that the Villains are invading the Party Time show, I was just expecting them to keep it the same. The bit about the parade does make it sound like there will be  a bigger influence on the whole parade, which has been rumoured before I think? It's good to hear that they're expanding Mickey's Not-so-Scary Halloween Party with BTM and PM too; lets face it, it wouldn't be a Halloween party without PM

And the other good news; Stitch's Dance Tragedy is leaving at the end of November :P

Sounds like it was last year with the disappearance of the villains show being the only difference. I really hope I can make the 31st October again, that was amazing last year.

It looks to me that it will be the usual Pre-Parade for OUADP.
Overlays the the current shows sound good.

Did we know already that Stitch will be gone before the Xmas season?

Sounds like the usual Halloween event but with a few little tweaks. New decorations will be needed soon though!

Yeah we did. :) Roll on Christmas!!!

Be interesting to see what accompanies the MNSSHP (confusing that one) move into Frontierland and Adventureland, ie. how it's going to be made a different event to the Halloween Party, rather than just a cut-down version.

We loved Halloween last year.  My 2 little boys just loved seeing all the different pumpkin folk and wanted a picture with every single one of them.

When we were there in May we didn't bother to go see the Stitch dance party as we didn't like the look of it too much.  I saw it start but decided not to go over to watch as I didn't feel drawn in by it and also my 5 year son doesn't like noise.

Count down is on now, not long.

The Disney Villians invade the Mickeys Magical Party...hmm... it could be realy cool, if the right people make this "stuff". They should no "good" characters in the show, only Mickey. No Goofy, no Peter Pan etc. And Maleficent should be the leader of the Magical Party this season and tell Mickey, what a really good party should like to be, if the "bad guys" make not a good party, who does? :) A little bit of Remixed Music (like the 3. Track on the Single Disc) and little bit of Disco light, like the one one on the launch evening...
But  that dream will not come true I guess, it would be really a simple show, more for litte kids than teenagers or "grown ups"

Well that's kinda the point of a 'not so scary Halloweenparty', isn't it?
I'm going there with my brother's kids, they're aged 2 and 6, it's cool for them.

Hello Annet, I not mean the "not so scary Halloweenparty" (this event is more for the kids, you`re absolutly right), I mean the daily show on Central Plaza... and now I see in the first topic, that the villians, who invades the party, are Maleficent, Hook, Cruella, Gaston and Frodo... hey, what about Hades? He is the coolest of the villians and he is not invited at the party? Shame

Post by: Annet on July 26, 2009, 10:21:13 PM
Oh I'm sorry, I misunderstood. All the "party's" got mixed up in my head.
It would be cool if it was completely in Halloween-style, I agree.
Ah well, I only visit DLRP once a year, so I'm looking forward to it anyway.

I saw by Youtube the last year show of the Disney Villian Show on Central Plaza and now I knew, why Hades ist not there and will not be invited at the Mickeys Magical Party Time on Halloween... he has no song! All other characters "perform" there villian song from the movie... but what is with Maleficent? Why she is allowed to be there with no moviesong?
Sometimes I wish I could do this kind of job there   :o

I keep thinking about this Halloween show business. I'm not sure if it's a typo or do they simply mean only the final performance of Its Party Time will be invaded by villains. This is similar to the plans for this Christmas when the final show will be quite different to the daytime version (using stage lighting and the illuminations). Maybe this is what they want to do with Halloween to create more atmosphere - which also gives us less atmos during the day. Ive heard many times that amount of performances Its Party Time gets doesn't give the sense of event Candleabration had... for example.

On s different note, lots of the HalloWishes music would be suitable for a party show - different villains and routines turning up to celebrate. Even the Ursula stuff could her appearing from the trap door on a similar contraption to the Villains Parade a couple of years ago. It'd be foolish not to use some of this high quality Disney music in favour of the already recycled tracks from Villains Showtime. And for the parade... give that one of the many parade tracks that DLP has the use of (from DLP, MK and TDL...). The show is now the main Halloween event in the resort, not the parade so focus and funds should be distributed appropriately

That's California though? I really wish we could at least have Halloween fireworks on Halloween night. It's not a big thing to ask. Especially if paying extra to enter the park. Actually make that all the party nights. No reason why they couldn't do it!

I'm loving the first pictures of Halloween this year. Everything seems to be running on the same theme as before, but that Disney gloss has been added. Darker tones and depth in design/colouring however with a friendly Halloween edge...

All by 'BOLT' on Disney Central Plaza:

The Trick or Treat Stage is now more than just a stage, but something that overflows with atmosphere and character. The new Pumpkinmen models are now life-size to match their cousins that walk around... and just oose quality and 'Disney'. This is a massive improvement from the stick-men versions we've had in previous years. Man I'm impressed and excited!

Thoughts?

I'm seeing several reports of the Central Plaza parade route light (and speaker) posts being changed slightly. Seems they've been extended slightly. I'd imagine this is to accommodate extra lighting for the final Villains show... or perhaps atmosphere lighting for those dark Halloween evenings?

If this is true, I'm really pleased. The really impressive stage and setting deserves a suitable transition into the night hours. The lighting before has been quite basic.

They're still fixed to the ground with massive bolts though.

It is looking better again this year, but just in baby steps - repainting old decorations, etc...

Yeah, looking at the extra pics that are emerging, the change in scale and quality of some of the Pumpkinmen looks disturbing.

On the plus side, a new show for the NSSHP on the Central Plaza stage sounds interesting. And the Halloween Party Night non-firework display has got my attention anyway. I know he's selling it here, but it appears to have imagination.

I've been looking around and some projection techniques really can be mesmerising if done properly. In that interview they talked about making the castle look as if it's lived in (like the PM light show a few years ago) so maybe they could try some of these ideas too...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0XKmU5hF5s (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0XKmU5hF5s)

Quite spectacular, but only as background effects. Perhaps not enough for the show itself. Maybe they could use these techniques elsewhere in the park during the party nights?

The programme is online! And after just a few weeks of the old design, it's all-change again!

http://news.disneylandparis.co.uk/UK/EN ... arades.pdf (http://news.disneylandparis.co.uk/UK/EN/Neutral/Images/ShowsAndParades.pdf)

Have DLP actually hired someone trained in design? The Halloween section looks great.

Some of the names listed are a bit clumsy though: "Halloween opening Parade followed by Disney's Once Upon a Dream Parade" - "Jack and/or Sally from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (C) Disney" - and best of all "It's Party Time... with Mickey and Friends... and the Disney Villains" haha!

Edit: Oh, forgot why I came here -- the English version of the interview Kris linked earlier is now online! Read it here: http://www.dlrpmagic.com/interviews/emm ... ival-2009/ (http://www.dlrpmagic.com/interviews/emmanuel-lenormand-disneys-halloween-festival-2009/)

Lots of info about the 31st October Party Night, Not-so-Scary Parties and Disney Witches Dancing Spells Party (that's a mouthful) - plus Jeremie posed the eternal question for us: When will Walt Disney Studios celebrate Halloween?
Title: Re: Disney's Halloween Festival 2009
Post by: dlrpkris on October 02, 2009, 08:11:18 PM
Yeah I saw the new programme design. Looks VERY appealing and is full of character (rather than the train timetable style of the older version). All the times listed like that makes it very easy to see which events clash with others... or more importantly let you pin-point what time of the day it is and what exciting things you can go and see.

I think they're wise to keep Halloween mainly in Disneyland Park. A more focussed event keeps everything richer and there's so much in Disneyland Park which can't easily transfer to the Studios without a lot of thought - HOWEVER - a hint of creepiness could go down well. For something like Christmas, there's no excuses though!

The Pre-Parade (and some nice Halloween atmos):
[youtube:3h9s3olp]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k78c7zw7B2Y[/youtube:3h9s3olp]

Minnie's Halloween Party Train (to the character express intro :S )

Slide show of great decorations:
[youtube:3h9s3olp]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qK0CSBkAxtY[/youtube:3h9s3olp]

It's a bit dissappointing to hear that the It's Party Time modifications are mainly just the Villains dancing at the end to the same music. Without a complete Halloween parade, the Central Plaza show always used to be where the seasonal entertainment could be found.

I hadn't realised that Boot Hill has its own Nightmare Before Christmas area loop by the way. Not sure if I like that or not.

What I do think is cool is the small alterations It's Dance Time has now go. The dancers have new Halloween-inspired makeup etc and the final dance away (instead of the Mickey's Magical Party remix theme) is Are You Ready for Halloween. Nice touch, just too bad lots of people don't bother seeing this tucked-away show...

The new villains finale to It's Party Time is far too long. You can almost hear the snores as guests fall asleep.

The concept works better than I expected and, like the daytime show, there's added pyro to the final 'bang'. Since it seems that this effect will stay, I hope for some added sparkle in the Christmas finale illumination show now :)

Quote from: "dlrpkris"I'm seeing several reports of the Central Plaza parade route light (and speaker) posts being changed slightly.

Some pictures of some modifications online. Not been recently so I'm finding it hard to see what's old and new. It appears the temporary lighting has been added to the permanant structures.

http://www.images-squish.net/users/Free/26190.JPG (http://www.images-squish.net/users/Free/26190.JPG)
These extra lights weren't on the top before were they? :S Also notice the castle Christmas lights appearing...

Extra grass seems to be layed, but the old 'temporary' Central Plaza lights are still present in the background :S
http://www.images-squish.net/users/Free/26191.JPG (http://www.images-squish.net/users/Free/26191.JPG)

So was this really to make Halloween look better by night (with the new later Villains performance, or just so they can use the temp lighting stands for the new Tree Lighting Ceremony? Perhaps a bit of both

More videos coming to surface... this one quite close up for the It's Party Time Villains. Really sounds like the crowd love the show. Such enthusiastic cheers, boos and dancing. The extra characters on stage really does make the overall scene very impressive and the after-show music for trick or treating really continues the pace. I'm stragely loving the show more and more!

It's a sad situation when a 15minute witch-off is the most Halloweenified show during the festival. Because it uses good music, the show does come across much better than expected:

[youtube:2te6hmol]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vz6_F-DHS8s[/youtube:2te6hmol]

I had always hoped they'd remix HallWishes into a Halloween Party Time show since there's many great tunes that can involve villains from so many films. I just seemed to make sense!

Thanks - I thought I'd got myself a good place to watch "It's Party Time", right up against the stage but in fact (and particularly being short!) it meant I was really too close to get good shots of the stage in general so just had to hold my camera up and hope for the best!  But Maleficent did come down and visit us after wards!

Oh now that's a show! And the problem with them performing during the day is?

It's a shame that Paris can't make these party nights work like the Magic Kingdom model - like a Halloween extension of your day. Over there the park is very similar to normal during the day and all the Halloween stuff tends to happen after dark. I guess that's what we've now got but people don't seem to be paying extra for it - on the rare nights it actually happens. Such a shame, but the quality, Disney and wow factor are all there. It passed the goosebumps test for me :)

I even like the Cavalcade this year. No idea why!
 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xasera ... shortfilms (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xasera_notsoscary-cars-cavalcade_shortfilms)

It all looks promising for the actual Halloween evening now. People say that show is even better. With added lighting, projections and live effects, I'd even be happy with his performance!

P.S. Maleficent's English performance with Mickey in French is great. In It's Party Time too please!

Does anyone know if they are doing meets during the parties?! I am doing MNSSHP and the Soiree... would LOVE LOVE LOVE to meet them!!
actually, anyone got any ideas of who is at the parties overall?
Any cool rare characters? Clopin and Esmerelda being of particular interest though!

No, the show is twice during the evening, once at 9pm, and once at 10pm :)
I know this because I have a friend who went, and got a guide map!
Sadly she doesn't know the answers to the questions I posted earlier, so they still need responding to if anyone knows!! :P

Any show with Clopin, Esmerelda and Genie gets a thumbs up from me.
Maleficient seems to have an awfully posh accent too.  :P
Nice use of the fireworks spotlights also.

I've noticed that a lot of the shows this year have had a lot more french dialogue than it has been over the last few years, I think anyway.

Ideally of course, this show should be closing the park every evening instead of the rubbish ending that is on now.

I don't think there was one last year, since Not-So-Scary was confined to Fantasyland. There was just some small show on the Castle Courtyard.

Isn't this cavalcade just Stars 'n' Cars with a few extra characters? Most people will have seen it a few hours earlier, and have now paid €20 or whatever to see it again. The cars haven't been changed at all, there's no reference to Halloween anywhere. It's like they just pulled it out to pad the event out a bit... and I'm being generous with the "like" there.

Edit: In fact last year they ran the Disney Characters Express with its Halloween dressing: http://www.dailymotion.com/user/photosm ... art_travel (http://www.dailymotion.com/user/photosmagiques/video/x74fse_mickeys-not-so-scary-halloween-part_travel) (7mins in)

I totally agree with this! I love the show on central plaza stage(seen on a friends home video) but the cavalcade looked really really disappointing! They seem to think they can just reuse things and that people will still be happy enough as long as theres a character about! Just like Goodmorning walt disney studios and the toon train...same 3 piece set used, both looking equally pathetic, a car pulling 3 scenes.....such little effort or magic in it at all!

Sorry for going a bit off topic and having a rant

Is that what it is, a float?

It's the most hideous decoration ever, and completely out of place with everything else (the skull and the green dwarves, eugh!) every year I hope that it will have an accident and not make it back... and now they go and put it right in town square... bit of a shock to see it there when we walked into the park

Does anybody know the name of the song, which is playing in the music loop in the Disneyland Park?

It is not "Halloween-Lo-Ween", it sounds like:

Anyone know the title of it?

The Pre-Parade music is basically an edited version of Hallowishes from Walt Disney World.

I just came back from my first ever visit during Halloween — I was pretty much a complete novice to this, having never even heard a Halloween song. I was familiar with the Pumpkin Men of course, but other than that, a clean slate.

To be frank, it all left me wondering wherein the appeal lies. It wasn't much, and what was was unremarkable. The decorations were, well, you know. Like a pair of orange Crocs on Audrey Hepburn. Then there was this song which they had managed to shoehorn into most of the area loops, something about how it was Halloween, lo-ween everywhere. Catchy like an Eastern European Eurovision entry as always, but slightly jarring in Frontierland and inside the Main Street shops. Then there was a small pre-parade involving even more pumpkin men (apparently you can never have too many Jack-'O-Lanterns with human bodies.) And that was it.

Sorry to be a downer, but am I missing something? Ah well. Christmas is around the corner.

Hello again :)

Long time since I posted on the forum, but as we just came back from another visit during Halloween, I thought I'd check the feedback from other guests...

It doesn't seem many forum posters have visited as I expected more feedback to be present yet, but I felt a bit disappointed by this year's Halloween Party.

Not only did it lack much organisation (I'm absolutely sure there are hundreds of people that never paid for the event who joined the event due to no checks AT ALL; this unfortunately to my believe led to too many people in the park during the event... I honestly believe I've never seen such large queues for the Halloween party, and it's my 6th or 7th time visiting...), I also felt there has been going on lots of saving for this year's event.

Fair enough, it's crisis time, and this also goes for EDL, but the event was sold out, which means funds were available, and to see that the orange tower which was once connected to BTM transporting orange paint from the mountain to Frontierland just disappeared this year (the carts went away a few years ago already), just struck me in the face.

In stead there was another fat witch sitting there representing the mamma of all witches.  I don't understand this.

The show may have seemed really well, but not only did it start without the "mesdames, messieurs, DLRP est heureux de vous présenter XXX dans 5 minutes), it was a bit unclear to us when the show started...  We were also standing at Casey's corner, and for some reason I still do not understand they forgot to turn on the music throughout Main Street, so only those people that were standing ON central plaza must have had a good experience from this.  For me personally, it was just one big disappointment.  It simply lost ALL of its potential effect by not hearing the music.

I must admit though that the projections seemed really great, but overall, we were not impressed by this since we heared about NOTHING.

We also look forward for another visit, and for some reason we continue renewing our PA and keep our shares, but the last few visits have been more than a disappointment to us.

Add to this the fact that we made reservarions for Walt's on sunday at 6:15pm only to find out that they were closed, and we were left with no good alternative.  Complaining at city hall doesn't even help...  "there were technical issues which caused for reservations to be taken where they should have been"...  My ass - someone obviously just forgot to update opening hours in their computer system.  I still wonder why I always give my telephone number - they could easily have contacted me.

Well - looking forward to our next visit, and keeping our hopes up as always - I just hope that there will be a time at which we'll be surprised again in the positive sense!  With over 10.000 EUR a year spent at the resort, I don't think anyone can still believe we're sane after all the disappointments we've had the past two years!

Quote from: "speedpacket"Hello again :)
Welcome back! Thanks for the review. Can't say I'm entirely surprised by that experience, DLP don't have a great track record in this kind of organisation/control area.

Quote from: "speedpacket"to see that the orange tower which was once connected to BTM transporting orange paint from the mountain to Frontierland just disappeared this year (the carts went away a few years ago already), just struck me in the face.
Actually, I'd hope that's more an artistic decision! But it's true, even if it was unpopular, it was taken away without any replacement.

Quote from: "MagicStar"Miska Mouska, Mickey Mouse
I think it comes from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, the Playhouse Disney show. It's a load of nonsense, basically. Obviously singing the spelling M-i-c-k-e-y M-o-u-s-e is like, so out of date.

Here's two more videos from the show:

[youtube:3g0uozzt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXkQcugjMnY[/youtube:3g0uozzt]

[youtube:3g0uozzt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqZQPpss7RE[/youtube:3g0uozzt]

It's messy, it's all over the place, it's almost entirely in French, it re-uses every costume they've got, projections of puppets from Once Upon a Dream Parade (?), an introduction from a generic halloween man, a stage that's apparently still very hard to see when busy.... BUT it is a fantastic-looking show.

The pyrotechnic and fire effects are stunning! Where were those huge flames bursting from? And what's the effect with the sparks falling from the Castle? How does that happen? Very very clever.

I guess this is our Fantasmic-lite. :?

Oh organisation was appalling, but I must admit our wristbands were checked at least 7 or 8 times. Guess these points were just dotted around in strange places.

Waited over half an hour for a takeaway pizza in Adventureland. Is this the speed of fast food? Very frustrating when you're missing all the stuff you've just paid to see!

I'm guessing those sparks travelled along a wire to the stage, similarly where theflames and pyros were. They were a great surprise. Very 'Disney'! When I saw the cranes for the fireworks go up in the sky, I did get a sense that they'd actually thought about this show and didn't just throw it together. As for using old costumes... how resourceful! Was a great treat to see everything in use properly... but I don't remember all those extra lights being that visible. Too bad, but a great feeling during the show and everyone seemed to really enjoy it.

The flames were coming from the Satellite stage nearest the castle. A a wire was attached from the satellite to the castle and a "pyro ball" was send down to simulate Maleficents decent from the castle to stage.

Cheap indeed was the use of the puppets on the castle, but to be honest... quite resourceful and better than a still image! The generic halloween man was actually Show Director Emmanuel!

The atmosphere on the stage was incredible, the best show I've ever done here... it was amazing!

I didn't recognise him at all! It's just different to see a human but non-Disney host.

Thanks for the explanations of the effects, that's actually very inventive indeed. And I forgot to even mention that the projections were probably the best we've seen, perfectly clear to see. I hope that equipment wasn't just on hire (or if it was, they hire it again...)

All kinda makes you wish DLP had a big lagoon or something more suitable for non-firework nighttime shows.

Thank you for the video.

Not impressed at all with the show, it was boring and exactly the same as every other Halloween show.
How many times are Disney going to use the Hallowishes soundtrack?

We did have a bit of the Fantasmic soundtrack though, so yay!

I would love that 2, but well, for now it didn't spoil our trip and we had a great time. :)
We should send one of our forum members as an employee/manager  :P

Great pictures DLRPTEAM! Captured the feeling of the foggy night very nice.

Didn't bump into a group with the The Joker and a scary (and hairy) Vampire Lord??  :P
