Title: Anniversary Trip 8th t0 10th May
Post by: ford prefect on May 11, 2009, 04:11:36 PM
Just got back!  FAb time.

We arrived on the Eurostar on Friday, staying at the Sequoia Lodge.   When we arrived I found that we had been upgraded to a Montana Lakeside room.  We unpacked and headed for Disneyland Park.

This trip was without children in tow, so we planned to do all the rides we can't normally do without baby switch.

First job was to fastpass BTM, followed by lunch.

We just fancied a burger so went to Cowboy Cookout, only to discover that the menu had been greatly improved, the same applied to Hakuna Matata and Fuente Del Oro (which is where we ended up having fajitas!)

We then went on Phantom Manor (big queue, for the first time ever we had to queue around the full system), as far as I could tell, all effects were working and the Manor looked great.

After PM we decided to go on Indiana Jones, but again the queue was huge.  We had dinner booked at Blue LAgoon for 6:15 so time was against us. (It was 4pm now!)  We fast past Indiana Jones and the timing was perfect, we could do BTM at 5:45 and Indian Jones at 5:25.  Whilst we were waiting we had a quick go on Pirates.

Back to the 2 rollercoasters where we finshed riding BTM at 6pm, just in time for dinner.

Blue Lagoon was wonderful, Sarah had the Mahi Mahi and I had the Ostrich fillet with Plantain and a black pepper sauce which arrived flambe.

The drinks menu has been standardised across the resort (albeit with different prices according to location) but the choice was superb.

After dinner we had a wander around the shops and decided to go for a drink in Disney Village.

King Ludwig's Bar does a "Trio of Beer" 3 small beers for €7 which allowed us to try the different beers.   After that we went to Billy Bobs'.  A great band (Wild Poppy) were playing and we finally returned at just after midnight to find flowers and robes in our room.

Saturday took us to the Studios park and a planned ride on ToT.  Both of us were very nervous but we loved it.  We decided to go on Armageddon but there was a problem of some sort with the extraction system and 10 minutes later (just standing around in the space station) we were asked to leave.

The Studios were very busy but not hectic.

Saturday Afternoon and a return to the hotel for a swim (and to watch Formula 1 Qualifying on the German TV channel). I love SL swimming pool.

We had dinner booked at California Grill:  What a lovely restaurant!  Our first visit to this restaurant after 26 trips to Disneyland!  We had the Foie Gras for starters followed by Shellfish medley for Sarah and a veal chop with gratin potatos for me.  A bottle of St Emilion Grand Cru bordeaux, "Sweets from Childhood" for Sarah's dessert and Morello CHerry chocolate mousse for me and we returned to SL for champagne!  Wonderful evening.

On Sunday we went back to Disneyland Park, quick visit to Salon Mickey (disappointed that the cakes and drinks had been severly downscaled) and headed to Discoveryland.  2 rides on Buzz Lazerblast later (It was a draw) we went on Space Mountain.

The park was surprisingly quiet on Sunday and we managed to do repeat rips on BTM, PotC and PM.

Lunch was at Walts.  2 T Bone steaks and a bottle of Chateau Lamour.

A (pleasantly stuffed) walk around and a stop to see Mickey's Magical Party and the parade.

I really enjoyed MMP.  It was jolly and fun.  People generally seemed to like it and were joining in.

The only sad part of the weekend:  The return home and the stressful Eurostar Check in.

We finally arrived home at midnight and relieved my parents of baby sitting duty!

Congrats on 8 years.

Sounds like you had a fab time.

We arrived by eurostar on Sun and stayed at SL too, so maybe we passed each other at some time in the day. :)

I hope to get away next year for my 10th anniversary (my 9th is today actually). Maybe my parents will have my kids so we can go it alone too. lol
