Goofy's Summer Camp will replace The Tarzan Encounter this summer at Chaparral Theatre from July 4th to August 30th, 2009.
Disney Central Plaza member "magicdays" says that the show will be interactive, feature live musicians and characters. Dancers are currently in consideration. He continues that everything will take place in a new scene that will include an element from the Pocahontas show which was performed on the same stage 10 years ago. (Possibly the waterfall effect).
More news the following weeks/months.
I don't know why, but this image always comes to mind when I hear that name:
Anyway, I'm quite disappointed to hear that Tarzan is going, and that this will be replacing it; but at the end of the day, Tarzan has been around for a long time, so perhaps change is a good thing. We'll soon find out
Well this interesting. :?
Don't want to make any judgements just yet. I'll wait till more info is released.
It will be interesting to see what they come up with. Afterall Mickey's Winterwonderland had some highlights, so I will wait until we see it to pass judgement.
But of the countless shows I have seen in the Disney parks, our Tarzan is definately in my top 3.
tarzan was a great show but i was getting bored of it, and tarzan isnt as popular as he used to be ( the show is now a closure show on cinemagic ). im glad we are getting a new show though :D/
Agreed that the time was right for a change, I just really hope they are changes for the better. DLP used to have the honour of the best shows to grace a Disney stage (Mulan, Tarzan, Lion King), I would love to see this pattern continue.
I am going the last week in June so i am hoping it will be on then. Beauty and the Beast is one show I would love to return. I wonder when we will get more details???
Unfortunately I've never seen the Tarzan show so I don't know what it was about. We have always been to DLRP when they didn't perform the show.
I'm not very happy with the replacement, it's just another show with toons and that's the reason why I think the show is addressed to children. Although I really like the classic toons (Mickey, Goofy, Donald and Co), I think too many things in the resort are now based on them. For example there is this show on Central Plaza, with toons, Lion King show, which I really liked, replaced with Mickey cartoons, again toons, and of course this ugly sign, of course with toons, on the castle.
This year I will not make it to DLRP so I can't see the new Goofy show, but I will wait for the first pictures and reviews until I make a judgement.
It would be great when DLRP will bring back a big show like Finding Nemo at WDW, which my girlfriend and I really loved. The best Disney musical/show I've ever seen.
The French name of the show is "La colonie de vacances de Dingo".
Have they announced yet when it will start? Will it be on only during July and August?
Quote from: "never2old"Have they announced yet when it will start? Will it be on only during July and August?
July 4th to August 30th, 2009 :)
thats a short season for the show, i will miss it when we go in the last week of June which is when we used to catch the Tarzan show, maybe i might be lucky and catch a preshow if they do the odd one :?

So you hate toons, but love Nemo?
The old Goofy sporting shorts are some of the best stuff Disney made, back in the day. If this is anything like them, then it gets my stamp of approval. I never saw Tarzan since I hadn't been to the parks in yaers before, but I understand that these shows do need to be changed from time to time so I don't object to Tarzan leaving the Chapparal.
I agree, the Goofy "How to" shorts back in the day were great and ver humourous.
How to Self Defence, Hockey, Race Cars, Baseball and Swim are the ones I remember most
Shame as I wanted to see Tarzan during my next visit. :( But hopefully this new show will be okay and not too child-oriented. It'd be nice to see some cool special effects and stuff too. Somehow I doubt it'll top Tarzan.

Yes! On paper this sounds great. Perhaps finally something very fitting for the location.
With a short run like that I'm not expecting that much. Fingers crossed for something well-produced at least. Hopefully not an inane drag-and-drop MP3-fest like Stars 'n' Cars.

It's a shame you missed out, we really thought Tarzan was better than the Finding Nemo Musical and the Lion King. The only better park show out their in my opinion is the Aladdin show at DCA.
I love what I'm hearing about the show but are we getting too many shows in a event called 'Mickey's Magical Party'?
Although I loved the Tarzan show, I agree with some of you that change won't hurt. I am sorry that it will have such a short running period - hopefully it will just be "test period", because if it is done well a show based on some of the old Goofy shorts could be awesome.
Although the toons have been given a rather huge spot in the resort this season and lately, the old cartoon shorts are classics and this show could be way better than especially "Party time" from what I have seen.
But we will have to wait and see, but it sounds rather good so far :D
A change could be good. However i never saw the Tarzan show so i can't say anything about it. But it's made a impression on you guys.
But maybe it'll be good and a nice change!!!
I´m always excited when new shows are announced.

Oh dear Aladdin at DCA??? i think thats horrific! Nemo the Musical however is brilliant, and i will sorely miss our Tarzan show *sigh*
Bring on One Mans Dream show from Tokyo!!! It would fit perfectly onto the stage at Videopolis.
By the way, going back to Goofy's Summer Camp (GSC), dancers will be included, 3 couples apparently, also Chip and Dale will feature and appearance too, not sure if any other characters will be there, though, more info to come!

Thanks for the info zanderstarz :)
Chip and Dale? Great!
They used to be everywhere in Paris back in the early 2000s, but have just disappeared recently.
Chip and Dale will be great. They've always been one (or should I say two?) of my favourite characters at the resort, and they actually look good in Frontierland! I'm glad the show doesn't seem too much like a character-fest as well (at least so far). If it's just Goofy and Chip and Dale with other dancers and actors, it should be just fine. :)
If it does end up being a good show it'd be a shame for it to be on for such a short period. I probably won't get chance to see it.
Aw, that's really sad. I've only seen the Tarzan Show once in 2000 and I loooved it!! :( But I was pretty sure I wouldn't have the chance to see it again, it's just logical that Disney would replace it sooner or later and show something new on the Chapparral Stage ;)!
Will that show last longer than this summer? Will Tarzan return? Or will there be something different after GSC?
Yes! Tarzan and Jane are so very romantic ...

DLP confirms Goofy's Summer Camp in the French "What's new this summer" press release:

Looks great! Love how the back is almost completely open, no need to pretend it's a jungle this year. The stage in the middle is the musicians I suppose, be interesting to see which ones they are.
Also note the (much smaller than Pocahontas) waterfall just next to the cave on the right.
However, the show itself isn't getting the best reviews so far...
31 second spoiler here!

More proof it seems that Disney want there entertainment purely for the under 8's.
Shame, as I love the band playing, hope they are still on at Cowboy cookout too.
Hah, 31 seconds and BOOM - panned by davewasbaloo.
Well here I go...
- The live music sounds fantastic, fantastic, fantastic.
- Oh now come on, what on earth are those dancers doing? :-s
- Seems we've got another show with character voices entirely (?!) in French and a non-English English host. It's sounding a little shrill and schoolteacher-ish.
- When people think "let's go and see this show", don't they expect to go and watch a show, not be forced military-style to dance and HAVE FUN? Tarzan had one of the best interactive scenes of all, with the pots and pans for kids to make noise with. Fun, without the desperate shouting.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of it, to see how all this is wrapped together... could there be a story in there, or has DLRP entertainment forgotten what those are this year? We shall wait and see...
Sorry Ant, you are right, it is not a full representation. However, the choreography and voices give a good glimpse of what to expect. Tarzan and Lion King, Finding Nemo and Aladdin, even Beauty and the Beast and Mickey's Winter Wonderland (because of the skating) are all attractions worth dedicating an hour or two of a day in the park for. In some of those cases, one could argue they are worth the price of admission.
I fear this one is not in that league. Does everything have to be? No, but there are other venues that could host stuff on this scale.
Maybe I am wrong for having high expectations of Disney. I suppose a lifetime of obsession does that to you. Clearly I have wasted my life.
I even shocked my wife saying I am thinking about selling my Disney collection.
FWIW, I have also gone on record saying I did not think the hub show as as bad as everyone has said, and I widely praised the Mary Poppins show, as well as the TAMTAMS and Country Bands. I also highly praised the Stars and Cars event.
Okay... well I like the band, but the rest of it is just completely weird. All the shouting and screeching is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

It's getting kinda funny the more times I watch it, with the leader doing the stupid roundup kinda dance at the end. If it's intentionally comical, then that's no bad thing.
What's the song they're dancing to anyway? I don't recognise it from anywhere, no google results for the lyrics. Major plus points if it's new music!

We only heard Goofy and Dale talk so hopely Tress MacNeille has been called in to provide the voices for Daisy Duck and Chip.
From the 31 seconds I watched I much prefer this to the rest of the Mickey's Magical Party entertainment at the park. Is it good enough to replace Tarzan, well the verdict is still open on this, but I would say probarely not.
QuoteWhat's the song they're dancing to anyway? I don't recognise it from anywhere, no google results for the lyrics. Major plus points if it's new music!
Its certainly not an original song and I know its being used at Tokyo Disneyland for the dinner show Horseshoe Roundup. But I think the lyrics have been altered. Here is a video of the TDL version [youtube:32mrvujx]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15o7c95tTWM[/youtube:32mrvujx]
Awesome! Bullseye! Although he looks weird stood up on his hind legs dancing...
Alright back to topic...
Umm... Well... Can someone call the choreographers back in, cause that looked a mess! That used to be one of the stupid things a school DJ made you do when you did the Conga in a School Disco... And its a humiliating "dance" sequence!
Hopefully someone can close the gate before the Horse completes its bolt and turns Goofy's Summer camp into a very disasterous Scout Camp!
Thanks for the video Malin. That show looks quite charmingly fun and in-keeping with the theme.
Quote from: "Malin"We only heard Goofy and Dale talk so hopely Tress MacNeille has been called in to provide the voices for Daisy Duck and Chip.
I was hoping the same, but... No! ALL the characters speak ONLY in French.
There are some (kinda shaky) videos here: http://www.disneytheque.com/article-10.html (http://www.disneytheque.com/article-10.html)
If anything the earlier 31 second clip was being kind to the show. I'm pretty disappointed. It begins with this excuciating scene where the leader arrives and forces everyone to stand and learn dance moves before the characters even arrive, and then there seem to a few fun scenes like a tug of war, before the people dressed as scouts apparently walk into the audience and point and pull out adults to go up on stage and make idiots of themselves. I thought Disney ususally let people volunteer themselves for that? The whole scout club theme is a bit strange and quite distant from the Cowboy/Western theme Europeans
actually find exciting.
It's definitely "holiday camp"-themed entertainment, that's for sure.
And so much for a show that fits in Frontierland - look out for Goofy's method of arrival... Was it really "A Cowboy Needs a Golfcart"..?
Oh dear. And this is what replaces Tarzan??
To be fair to them, it does look like the kind of show that could be fun to watch live, if the atmosphere is right (and if you lose consciousness in the bit with the animal noises ](*,) ). I will reserve my final judgement until (and if) I see it for myself, but I'm not too sorry I'll be definitely not seeing it this year.
With a bit of luck it won't come back next year?
Quote from: "never2old"With a bit of luck it won't come back next year?
There wont be a theatre for it to come back to next yeah, so you're in luck!
Back to the show...Daisy still says nothing? Was her rather seductive "good bye" she said at the end of Enchanted Candlabration the last we shall ever hear of her? This saddens me. But Tic and Tac en Francais pleases me greatly! is this a first?? The show as a whole, is very cute and very well put together, its nice and original and a great sit down and relax kinda thing, especially for the busy hot summer season. However, personally im not all for this audience participation malarchy that DLP seems to be doing this year, but the guests all seem to be enjoying it. Kinda think though, Goofy's Summer Camp is aimed a little too much for the younger audiences, which is a shame but im a sucker for all things cute so i'm quite happy to sit there and enjoy it :)
oh my god i want it to come back in march/april next year!
it sounds so cute and funny, i love this toon shows (like the wonderland show)
:)
i love chip and dale so much :)
Is this another show with audience participation?
They've done that a lot this year, with Party Time and Stitch. I'm not a fan.
I've also noticed that there is a lot of french character voices this year, seems to be more french than english.
It doesn't look like it will be coming back next year so its only for a few months, its better than nothing.
Normally i'll try to view these new shows with an open mind. I really really tried with MMP. But from the word go with this i was concerned. Are disney just aiming at kids now?

Interesting (depressing? reassuring?) to note that the show seems to have been "cut back" to 4 performances a day rather than 5 this week: http://news.disneylandparis.co.uk/UK/EN ... arades.pdf (http://news.disneylandparis.co.uk/UK/EN/Neutral/Images/ShowsAndParades.pdf)

Though I just lookied back at last year's schedules and Tarzan was only on 3 times a day, so...
at least Stitch gets cut at the end of the summer season, so whats happening to the Chapparel Theatre?????
Splash Mountain I hope as RnRcj says?
Just uploaded a bunch of photos to Photos Magiques here:
http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/disneyland_park/entertainment/goofys_summer_camp.php (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/disneyland_park/entertainment/goofys_summer_camp.php)
The show isn't as bad as I expected. Live singing, dancing, live band, characters and guest interaction seemed to please to crowds each time I've seen the show.
In my eyes, the show is the summer version of Mickey's Winter Wonderland, but with live entertainment instead of playback...
If the Summer Camp is only on until 30th Aug. will there be anything to replace it, or is that it (apparently) for the stage ???
Gutted that last Sept. the lights were out and the doors bolted, having only discovered Tarzan the visit before.
Thanks for the photos Kristof! It's funny looking through them, just seeing the performers in an increasingly bizarre series of poses, hahah. If you say its "the summer Mickey's Winter Wonderland", then that's quite a compliment!
But do they really pull people from the audience? That's the one thing that bugged me most.
Quote from: "Pete's Dragon"If the Summer Camp is only on until 30th Aug. will there be anything to replace it, or is that it (apparently) for the stage ???
We might have to wait and see if Mickey's Winter Wonderland pops up in the Christmas press releases? I'd be really gutted to lose that show, it's the highlight of the whole Christmas season. Though what zanderstarz is saying is very exciting, it really can't be taken as fact yet.
I should find and bump up a Splash Mountain topic for this board...
Edit: Just to follow up, here's the first Christmas season text:
QuoteDisney's Fairytale Christmas
From 8 November 2009 to 6 January 2010
This is a magical merry time for all the family! A Sleeping Beauty Castle lighting spectacular with Disney Characters. Snowflakes falling on Main Street, U.S.A®. A shimmering night time parade. And a wonderful musical on ice. You can even meet Santa Claus in his Village! Merry Disney!
So it sounds like it has another Winter at least?
Quote from: "Anthony"So it sounds like it has another Winter at least?
Mickey's Winter Wonderland is indeed returning but rumors of its venue have yet to settle.
Apparently this year the show will NOT be on ice, it will be on a plastic substitute. I think this is pretty sure, as not only was the audition conducted on rollerblades but some of the rehearsals last year conducted tests using the plastic ice.
Nothing 'backstage' is ever solid until 1 week before, they even like to keep the castmembers guessing. As to the future of the Chaparral Theatre, that still remains a mystery.
Going back to GSC, I love the show's M.C (Miss SummerCamp 1985), she could keep me entertained for days. Perhaps the show would be better if 10mins were cut from somewhere, it does seem to drag. Plenty of energy though, loving Tic and Tac en francais =D>
Quote from: "zanderstarz"Apparently this year the show will NOT be on ice, it will be on a plastic substitute. I think this is pretty sure, as not only was the audition conducted on rollerblades but some of the rehearsals last year conducted tests using the plastic ice.
Are you sure that's the reason for the rollerblades. I am a keen blader and ice skater, and the only real difference between the two is the braking and stopping. Instead of setting up a proper ice rink for auditions, isn't it just common sense to have them using blades?
And why test out plastic ice for rollerblades?? Surely a flat, bump-less surface coloured white would do.
(reading this back, it kinda sounds like an attack. Its not, Im just thinking out loud 8) )
QuoteAnd why test out plastic ice for rollerblades
No, the idea is to have normal ice skates on an ice substitute. I'm surprised this hasn't happened already. A show director told me in 2004 they were going to replace the ice with the synthetic stuff because the ice machine broke down a lot.
They had some form of synthetic stuff at our local shopping mall, and boy what it nigh on impossible to skate on. But I take it for granted there are better versions out there, and the DLP isn't that cheap

Ummm, DLP isnt cheap?? I know the performers last year hated the synthetic stuff. And usually the auditions are held on a real ice rink, however, due to budget circumstances its now not the case.

In part one, Miss Summercamp/whatever her name is says: "Today is a very special day...."
For a moment I thought she was going to mention 15 years of dreams and magic, and 15 candles.
I don't think its a pretty good show, and I think it works pretty well in Frontierland.
I like that they are using a live band.
If you ignore the audience interaction bits, it's a pretty good show with some actually quite great points. The Barbeque Band, the set, the costumes, the lighting, the general songs and music, choice of characters (good choice and very brave to leave out Mickey) - all wonderful. The musical numbers after each interaction are fun and good to watch, and the host does a good job despite the overwhelming use of French (which is bad for us - imagine if you're Spanish or German!). I like the "Miss Summer Camp 1985/2005" joke.
But then... they drag people up from the audience for no real reason and it all goes a bit seaside holiday camp. One of those moments would be fine, but here they're almost the whole show. Pick the best one, introduce some longer musical numbers or character scenes (they never really explore this great set like Winter Wonderland does) and let the audience get involved as and when they want to, and this would be a worthy Summer cousin.
Hopefully it will return next year and get bulked up with proper scenes like that, but as it stands it's not bad considering the on-off cancellation of Tarzan and lack of time.
Now, is it me or do the French Chip 'n' Dale sound rather like Quagmire from Family Guy? Giggity!
Quote from: "Willow"Thanks Kristof! :D

Ha! i like that the first time you see her, shes comming out of the house and does a big yawn...hmmm much like Donald in MWW eh??
WOW great! i want to see the show!!! :D
with regards to auditions on rollerblades, for MWW... this is to see if the performers have balance, nothing to do with fake ice. This year it should be on Real Ice again!!
i saw it on friday and really have to say that the tarzan show is better but this one is great too
Apologies all-round. Well, nearly.
It's a great little show. Wonderful live music, good fun songs, an excellent host and a beautiful set (the waterfall is huge!). I also caught the final performance on Sunday (will get the video up soon), when along with much wild cheering and people falling over (Daisy took a hilarious fall) they did a special curtain call and for the adults-looking-like-idiots section pulled up all the producers, directors and crew from the back row... who knew the moves off by heart.
The bad news... The ALL-French character voices is stupid (I heard English people complaining to each other as they left), Daisy whispering is weird (is she Sooty?) and the "Guess the animal noises!" would be embarrassing even on NickJR or CBeebies. It's at that point in the show you can clearly see the audience losing interest.
I hope it'll be back next year, with a few changes. If there's still a theatre there...
Quote from: "Anthony"I hope it'll be back next year, with a few changes. If there's still a theatre there...
Have seen the video on youtube by Photos Magiques. Can't say I love it or hate it.
Think it's more for the kids, rather than adults.
I have heard that the theater might be replaced with something else.
Does someone know something about that?
I belive it possible was you Anthony which told it in DLRP Today? Am I correct?
Here's the video of the special, super-amazing final performance of Goofy's Summer Camp (//http://www.dlrpmagic.com/video/entertainment/goofys-summer-camp/) (in HD too (//http://www.dlrpmagic.com/video/entertainment/goofys-summer-camp/?v=hd)).
As I just wrote on there: This was the Final Performance of Summer 2009, with plenty of extra jokes going on in the background to look out for and a special curtain call finale for all the characters. Notice also that, during the dance moves game, the adults pulled from the audience are not regular guests, but... the entire production crew of the show itself!
You might recognise Emmanuel Lenormand from Jeremie Noyer's interviews (and Kristof spotted him watching Dance Time recently), and a few of the others. They're all clearly pretending not to know the dance moves.
Also look out for: the guy driving Goofy's buggy err, driving it into the wall (!), Donald doing a funny routine giving Daisy a flower, and then Daisy falling over... It was a great show, the crowd were crazy. I think they'd been sat in the sun at Pueblo Trading Post pin trading all afternoon.
Was just wondering-is there any news of this coming back at all with New generation taking over the park?
I've not heard it mentioned anywhere, but it'd be nice to see it come back in some form, even if it has it's plot changed a little to something along the lines of Goofy teaching the New Gen characters the tricks of the Disney trade at a Summer Camp?
Oh a slightly unrelated note, was that Frontierland version of the MMP theme ever released anywhere? It's brilliant!
