Walls went up around the right-hand side of the Walt Disney Television Studios building yesterday...

Anyone know what this is for? A snack stand called Burgers Burgers? A long-needed repaint? Strangely enough just the day before I was taking photos of the bad state of the building to post on here and moan about.
A refurb would be great! But if I was being optimistic, I'd hope this was a complete redo of the facade to make it more... 'theatre district'-y.
And is that random gap between the Television Studios and Cafe Cafes EVER going to be filled?

Judging by the amount of people that collapse there on an even remotely sunny day, they should put some hammocks between the trees and expand the Stitch themeing...
They have covered a large area if it's just a repaint, but I suppose they'd need to build scaffolding up that "fin" on the building, and extending the fences into backstage means they could come and go during operating hours.
Maybe they'll change the art deco mural to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse? :P
Haha, Burgers Burgers...
More construction in that area ? O.o blimey
Also... Traitor!!! :p imgdash > imageshack !!! :P
the scarfolding is now up and a billboard is put in between television studios and restaurnt de stars...

Wow, this is a huge refurb. Look at the size of the scafolding structure !
Please say they actually refurb it and not leave the billboard up ! [-o<
I know I know I know something...a dark rumour:
they build "Billboardland". First they started with the front lot now the WDTVS
No :P
Nice that they try to keep the views. That is also something that they wouldn´t have done some years ago. In this times a simple fence seem to be the best way to "hide" a construction side.
I wonder how long that picture of the building will stay up?
My guess it well over a year. :P
It must be a pretty lengthy refurb then if they're putting all that up. Will this refurb actually start, or will we have to live with another billboard until 2046?

Arggh! Didn't they know I was only joking with the Earffel Tower?!
Very strange to see this wrapped up in tarp like that, how long does it take to repaint such a simple building? Maybe you're right RnRCj, EuroDisney SCA won't refurb anything anymore, they'll just cover it with scaffolding to hide the dirt.
Since they didn't "finish" Studio 1 before doing this, I can only assume we've got another billboard to look forward to.

 They´ve just read this posts to get some new money saving ideas
Wasn't this one of the main builings that were supposed to be rethemed by the Theater-District Placemaking Project?
Well... possibly... but this is nothing more than some much-needed paint.
Also they recently took down the "Walt Disney Television Studios" letters, I presume just to make it less confusing (less interesting?) between the other Stitch and Playhouse signs. Shame. It was the best of a bad bunch of buildings back in 2002, but the facade is now 90% dead with all the queues and signage crowded right down one end.

Unless they've waited for this refurb and do them all at once.
Something's being constructed at the Television Studios! Check the bottom of this page:

Café? Shop? Photo location?
Ah cool, it's either a merchandise stall or another drinks/snack counter.
Couple more photos:

Looks like a merchandise kiosk to me too, seems to be quite similar to the one outside Animagique, but we'll have to wait and see...
Is there any official confirmation about why the whole building is covered by scaffolding?
Bit of a crazy idea from me..... this isn't related to the Theatre District idea is it?
The façade is just in refurbishment. Scaffolding is also placed on the backstage side of the building.
Would that "kiosk" structure be a staff shelter to a new development like a walkthrough ride or so? :?
or a merchandise stall for stitch live and playhouse disney?
Most likely going to be a merchandise kiosk, like the one beside Animagique.
djeaser posted this photo on Disney Central Plaza today.

Wonder if that's going to be the new colour scheme for the Television Tour building? :?
Before I clicked the link I was hoping that it would include some red, luckily it does!
Its like the management are trying to change the colours of all the buildings, from the original yellow. (E.g. Toon Studio, and now the potentially new colours for the studios building)
I don't think thats a bad thing! Some might.
A post by member marc bosset on DCP forum confirms the kiosk won't be opening next month as planned but September, since some of the the fittings won't be ready in time.
Personally I like the top of the kiosk, that peach/salmon red is a good introduction to the land's colour scheme (it's already on Restaurant des Stars). The darker red of the supports doesn't look great.
Like the Animagique kiosk, though, it's a shame they only ever try to blend in these new kiosks with their locations, rather than letting them stand out a little - have their own name, etc. Example being La Petite Maison des Jouets in Fantasyland. The Studios is already still quite a bland wash of buildings, it could do with these things having a bit more personality.
Why not use more of that dead corner and put something like Crossroads of the World in?

New colours!!
Quote from: "WDSfans"The Television Tour building currently housing Playhouse Disney Live on Stage, Stitch Live! and the Disney Channel Europe offices is currently packed in scaffolding for a complete repaint of its façade.
It appears that a new colour scheme has been chosen for the building, using more a more earth tone yellow/orange and replacing the green by an orange/red tone.

I know it's early, but wow! LOVE those colours!
Suddenly it might go from being 1950s-inspired to proper 50s period.
What a pleasant surprise. :)
^Ditto, I absolutely love that colour scheme. Can't wait to see what the whole building looks like when finished.
love the colour's makes it look more fresh and just better!
Whilst the new colour scheme does look good, I can't help but think they're just shuffling little bits of the park again. Sure, it'll probably look better with the new colours, but it's not going to make a real difference.
I love the new colours. =D>
It is a good thing they're not trying to make all the buildings have the same colour schemes like yellow and silver.
I like the fact they are repainting in different colours, granted its only a small change, but if the building was due for a paint job then at least they are not just slapping on the same bland paint to every building, granted though the park is never going to be as beauitiful as its big sister next door.
That Kiosk was open yesterday, here is some pics

Looks really nice..
I agree, looks nice. It fits in very nicely with the Disney channel building.
Yes looks nice! On the other hand I think we need a proper placemaking in this area. The cut between Hollywood Bvd. and the courtyard is really a hard one.
With the fins (is that what they're called?) on the building going from turquoise to red, I hope/wonder if the neons will also change? This photo just reminded me:
Would red neons there look right?
Also, it's a shame the soundstage part of the building (the grey corrugated block) won't be reclad or something, because that's pretty much the only think stopping it from becoming a nice 50s-ish art deco building.
ooo i lil off topic but wow walt disney stuidos look amazingly beautiful at night never seen it like that seeing as im alwyas there during summer lol
oo and i love the red i think it look much better :D and the neons are nice 2 i think itll look good thou if it stay blue red could be a bit over powering and angry heheh
In the spirit of breeno's bumping up of the Studio 1 billboard topic, what's the latest here?
Is the scaffolding still there? I've a feeling I said this before, but anyone would think it's the restoration of St Paul's Cathedral or --insert historic monument here--, not a concrete box painted yellow! They must have a really small team of workers.

Basically... They have given some poor guy called Rahul who was late for work one day, the smallest paint brush in the world and told him to paint both studio 1 and the WDTS, slowly the list is growing and he can't keep up :P (Should we turn that into the next disney live action movie? about the same standard of story...)
Hahaha. Brilliant.
That'd also explain why they've yet to touch the Castle.
lol!
Lets hope it dose not turn into another Studio 1 job and have to wait 20 years for the finished result! lol

The scaffolding cover is finally coming down, looks like it's done!
I'm looking forward to seeing this new colour scheme. Hopefully a little "warmer" than the old one. Are you sure the cover hasn't been blown down by the wind though?
Meanwhile Studio 1 is still waiting for it's refurbishment to begin...
Quote from: "RnRCj"Are you sure the cover hasn't been blown down by the wind though?
Hah I thought the same, but Mouetto says it was in the process of being taken down yesterday evening (after park closing).
Fingers crossed they can move over to Studio 1 now...
maybe its falling down and not supposed to be down? lol
When I was there at the beginning of October, all I could hear was drilling and hammering! Let's hope it looks good! I'd love it if it was a stitch theme, ie him climbing down the building. I'll just have to wait to see it like everyone else.
The scarfolding on the Disney Channel Building are now being dismantled . I wish they could do the same thing on the Studios 1 facade !
That's great news! Anyone has a more recent picture?
If that refurb debacle of Studio 1 is caused due to a lawsuite with the contractor, why don't they hire the contractor for the Television Studios refurb to do it? Do they really need to leave everything as it is till this is settled?
Found a new picture on Newsdlrp.com:

As far as I can judge at the moment, I quite like it. The colourscheme fits in with Studio 1, Studio 3, Tower of Terror and the earth tones of the Hollywood facades. Hopefully they will re-install the nice "Walt Disney Television Studios" sign soon. We all know what happened to the Rendez-vous des Stars sign though...
Very nice! Compare it to this photo from the first page: http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/6186/tv01.jpg (http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/6186/tv01.jpg)
Darker orange is definitely the right choice. If you stood next to Tower of Terror, the old colour was far too pale compared to the new buildings, it looked very out of place. Add to that the lighter colour on the lines under the windows and the new red details (are the neons red too? looks like it), a job well done!
Though I hope the Walt Disney Television Studios sign returns too...
Very nice =D>
Now, if only it would take that long with the studio 1 billboard....
I didn't notice it before, but apparently they removed the mural with the large hidden Mickey on it! The Walt Disney Television Studios sign isn't brought back either since the refurbishment.
A bit offtopic, but they removed the taxi in front of Blockbuster Cafe aswell. Who's is going to sit on that "cozy" terrace anyway?

I was also surprised to see the mural painted over! Perhaps if they really do want this area to take on a more 1950s vibe then it wasn't all that fitting, with the satellite dishes, but simply painting over it like that is a bit... disappointing. The Studios really doesn't need extra blandness.
Do Disney Channel still occupy that part of the building? It'd be an ideal location for a shop or larger café if you could knock through and put some windows in.
Failing that, why not a mural depicting Walt Disney's 50s/60s television history? That's where Disneyland was introduced to the world, after all.
To be honest I think the television studios should hold exhibitions every year like "The History of Walt Disney" or "Disney parks around the world." Even a small cinema like on Main Street USA in Disneyland Anaheim and a new movie is shown now and again about different things like The Story of Disneyland Paris or From Sketch to Reality. Get a famous actor or presenter to host it in different languages.I would be a hit! The place is being called out to be used! (That's if it isn't already being occupied by Disney Channel ;))
Sort have gone off topic a bit.

Would they have moved the Taxi into Studio Tram Tour?
Anyone got a picture of what thsi mural used to look like? I cant remember! Also does anyone have a pic of the building in day light? I was only there last month, and I could tell that the buildign had been repainted, but I sure it wasn't anywhere near as dark as that pic shows.
Also, I cant remember seeing a kiosk by Animagique...?
There's some photos of the refurbed building in my latest trip report:

It's looking like the Walt Disney Television Studios sign is gone for good, isn't it?
Not to mention the mural...
The new paint work does make it blend in with the other 3 studio buildings now, which is good. I remember seeing it had been re-painted, but coulnd't put my finger on what it was that was differen't, but it looked a hell of a lot better.
