Post by: Skellington on March 12, 2006, 07:51:16 PM
Tokyo Disneyland Hotel to Open in Fiscal Year 2008

URAYASU, CHIBA - Oriental Land Co, Ltd. has announced that the new Disney hotel scheduled to open in Tokyo Disney Resort in Japanese fiscal year 2008 will be named "Tokyo Disneyland Hotel."

The new hotel will be built in front of Tokyo Disneyland Park, with the Disney Resort Line's Tokyo Disneyland Station in between. The hotel will reflect the early 20th-century Victorian architectural style found in the Park's World Bazaar themed land, the monorail station and the main entrance area. While grand and elegant, the hotel will generate a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for the Guests.

Stepping through the main entrance on the third floor, Guests will find themselves in the most striking feature of the hotel: the spacious, brightly lit atrium lobby with its approximately 30- meter high ceiling. Descending to the first floor, guests will be able to move outside into a pleasant, spacious courtyard bordered by a restaurants and shops. Beyond this courtyard the monorail station and the entrance to Tokyo Disneyland will be waiting, promising fun things to come.

The majority of the approximately 700 guest rooms in the hotel have been designed with families in mind, giving them a place where they can have a relaxing, comfortable stay. These themed room designs will no doubt afford guests a place to rest and talk over the many wonderful things they have experienced at the Resort.

This third Disney hotel is another step in the development of Tokyo Disney Resort as a world-class vacation destination. Its construction will allow even more guests to enjoy the Disney brand of family entertainment and the Resort's two theme parks, fine dining and tasteful shopping opportunities.

WOW!  They really are on a mission to beat the original plans of EuroDisney, aren't they?!

Oh well, it's excellent to see a Disney resort willing (and able) to spend so much money!  :D

TDR defenatly needs a resort fully oppereated by the main 2 companys. It just looks a bit boaring (hotel wise)

Am I the only one who doesn't really like it?  It looks so unattractive for a Disney entrance.  Could just be me though.

In my opinion it just doesn't look like a Disney hotel.  I don't know why it just doesn't look like one from thoughs pictures :?

I think it looks great; very grand and elaborate, and a fitting third hotel. Don't know if that's what you mean, but the hotel won't be a direct entrance to the park.

Quotethe hotel won't be a direct entrance to the park.

Still it's located at the entrance of the park right?  And I can imagine it's visible from the park.  The colours used don't do justice to the design of the building.  If you look on the concept art, the colours appear much lighter, more to the whites.  Would have been better.  But we'll see when it opens.

No raptor you´re not the only one. I´m not very impressed by this hotel. It´s just huge but nothing more. Looks like a bit like every "grand hotel" in every bigger european city. Not really WOW. And for me not very "Disneylandish". You can find such hotels in budapest, berlin, paris, rome and much smaller cities as st. moritz or Karlovy Vary.

So for me it doesn´t has a magical touch just a normal grand hotel. Why should I stay there?

At first I didn't know if I would like it, but it is growing on me.  It is a good set of colours to match TDL.  At first I hated how pink our DLP DLH was, and I never used to like our castle.  But they have grown on me too, and I love our castle.

Pink colours would not match the vibe of World Bazaar, and white would look dirty very quickly with the monsoons and other sever weather TDL is sometimes subjected to.  I like it.

It's funny, I don't really like the Grand Floridian, and the DLH is ok.  I really love the blue roofing on this.  My problem with the GF and DLH Paris is they are too froo froo feminine.  This is much more masculine.

And as for the criticisms it's very European - again we life in Europe.  But most TDLers will probably never set foot in Europe.  I think it's a nice sister hotel to the Miracosta.

Mostly share the opinions above. The yellow, particularly with such a strong blue, looks almost hideous and cheapens what should be a very elegant-looking hotel. This is definitely the Victorian equivalent of their New York tower of terror...

It would (and hopefully will) benefit from a lot of green surrounding it, both to help the colours and make it feel a little less imposing. DLH in Paris is grand and towering, but you enter Fantasia Gardens at a higher level so it always remains fairly welcoming. This is in another league - way too massive for an entrance to Disneyland.

Is that a multistory car park next door? :?

Latest news from Disneytheque;

QuoteThe finalization of the building continues with the installation of the fountain in front of the Fantasia Lobby of the hotel, the vegetation takes root, but also the installation of gardens and accessories that embellish and finally testing of systems' lighting.

I didnt like this hotel when I first saw it, but now I think it looks truely spectacular. Its so big its unreal.

One thing, the concept artwork show the hotel from the other side, and the entrance being a horse shoe shape with more flora etc, I would love to see it from that side.

Also notice the fantasia statues still wrapped up on one of those photos? This looks fantastic

Every time I see a new pic of it it seems to get more ugly. I loved the concept art cause it looks so grand and also very lighty, airy. But now I can just see a big box. Not very disney IMO. The Miracosta isn´t my hotel, too, cause I don´t see the need for me to travel to an Mediterranean resort if I can have this just a bit in the south. But it´s very disney with the charme of lost atlantis or an wonderful evening at italy. Tokyos Disneyland Hotel seems to me like a big ugly victorian "Plattenbau" (I don´t know the english word maybe "building made with precast concrete slabs")
Were is the wonderful facileness of the concept art?
And I must deny my contribution from above. It doen´t look like an normal european grand hotel which you can find at every corner. It looks worse.
Absolutly not impressed.

You may think it looks ugly but compare to the rest of the industrial area that surrounds this Resort, the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel is a huge improvement. Unless you've been to the Tokyo Disney Resort its very hard for people to understand just how well this hotel fits in, especially as right behind it is train tracks, motorways and apartment buildings.

I know it´s always hard to say something again Tokyo Disney Resort, cause it seems to be a holy cow for much fans!
But I just can say: The Hotel could look better. And that there are highways and industrial areas doesn´t make its appearance better. The concept art seems to my like a real counterpart to the areas around the resort. But the mostly finished hotel seems more to show how such areas would had looked at victorian times.

The Tokyo Disney hotel doesn´t say to me "Come in, you are welcome every time" it say just "stay out! I´m a real fortress and you shouldn´t come near to me". And for me it hasn´t the message of Disneyland. It´s not the message of the happiest place on earth. A place for every girl, boy, man, woman, all.
It´s just like "Yes WE are the most HAPPIEST PLACE all over the universe. And if you´re not HAPPY enough for us...we will make you! And if that won´t happen to you and you´re not HAPPY after our very hard arguments of HAPPINESS...we kill you at the 13. floor". Maybe the real tower of terror

Noooo I won´t take a step into this fortress! I´m afraid!

It's looking much, much better since they painted some of the lower parts of the buildings in different colours. Very clever idea to break up this monster.

Entrance and view are also very nice. I guess one plus about this design is that waay more rooms than in Paris will have a park view.

It is the same price as the Miracosta, which is similar in price to the DLH in Paris. I prefer the Miracosta, but this has some great features. And will feel very different for the people of Japan I think. I think they learnt from the mistakes of the DLH in Paris and built on it.

Only complaint is the pool seems really small, like our DLH.

A few, like not having many park views, restaurant capacity being too small, 5 star clientele having different retail needs. DLH in Paris is nice, but it does not offer the same level of ameneties as the US or Japanese Deluxe hotels.

I just don't know about this hotel. It looks like a lot of money was pumped into it (of course -- it's TDR), but it's just too big and plastic. The surroundings look awful -- a Victorianized parking structure? Are you serious? Plastic topiaries? Why? It all just seems very faux. Vegas-style faux.

The inside doesn't look all that charming either. Luxurious, yes, spacious, yes, charming, hardly. The artwork is treacly, the wallpaper somber.

The DLH may lack in amenities, but it's a thousand times more lovable than this behemoth. Now, the MiraCosta...

I agree with you Puss. Although the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel seems to have many pro's (look at that view for example, simply priceless) it seems a bit too fake (over the top) and massive for some reason. To me this hotel is an example that bigger is not always better.

The rooms and lobby however seem far better then at our Disneyland Hotel. Im not sure, but I think I would prefer Hotel MiraCosta and even the Ambassador Hotel over the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel.

Oh yes, I forgot about the Ambassador. That one looks wonderful too. All that marvelous art deco... I've never been there, but it looks like it just might put the WDW/DLP Graves hotels to shame.

I think -- to continue rambling, haha -- the main problem I have with the TDLH is that they shoehorned it into this very industrial area. It's all landfill, asphalt and parking lots. The entrance to Tokyo Disneyland isn't exactly a pleasant area either. So to put up this enormous, pseudo-Victorian thing right in the middle of it all... It just doesn't strike me as "magical". At the other end of the spectrum, DLP's Fantasia Gardens provide a far less forced experience.
