Title: Grand Opening Videos
Post by: Adam on February 21, 2009, 10:48:00 PM
I found these videos earlier on Digital Spy. According to the poster Cent:
Quotehttp://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/show ... p?t=993302 (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=993302)
It's the entire (about) 2 hour live primetime show from Disneyland Paris as the park was being opened, as it aired on ITV on Saturday 11th April 1992 at 6pm.

It was shown all over the world.

Different versions were made for each country, with special opt-out sections for that country's hosts to introduce the next event. In the USA CBS had Don Johnson and Melanie Griffiths and in the UK ITV had Matthew Kelly and Pat Sharp.

The show features Tina Turner, Cher, Eddie Murphy and a whole load of other stars.

Interestingly it seems to be one continious piece with no advert breaks, but they may have been edited about, although I cant see where.
Here is the first video:

I downloaded this off Dailymotion a few years ago but the sound was out-of-sync, hopefully this version will be better. I'm going to edit it into one video.

That user also has a very cool documentary about Expedition Everest, I'll have to check that out tomorrow.

Thanks for the links!!

OMG that makes DLRP look like the best place to be in the world...ever! hehe.
Like the budget for that opening must have been tremendous...

What was that show on Lake Disney?? Why dont we have a show on Lake Disney now?? I WANT "WORLD OF COLOUR"!!

Pat Sharpe is looking pretty mullet-tastic there!

Anyway, this is really interesting. Off to be occupied for 2 hours!

I wonder if anyone can answer this. During the shots from the air ship there is a very large area of bright lights towards the back of the parks. It doesn't look like its a ride.
Does anyone know what it is?

I was thinking a media village kinda thing.
