Do you think it is time Paris's It's a Small World has an upgrade?
Recently IASW in USA has been upgraded and modernised featuring some of the Disney characters

What do you think?
I think it would be nice for Paris to do something like this as well
I think: NOOOOO pleaaaase! Let it stay this great fun attraction without any disney characters.

I think it can be a good idea as Disney has all to do with change and being better and ahead of the rest.
I don't know if it needs those Disney characters per se, but I suppose it could use a little... Something. It's not a very popular ride compared to the Stateside versions, and in a very timeless park, it seems to be the most explicit remnant of the early 1990s. In 1992, the original "'small world" had become an anachronism — but now that we admire the Mid-Century Blair style, it's the revised version that's looking outdated. At least to me.
But all it probably needs for now is a good refurbishment. There are a lot of lights on that ride that haven't worked since Bush Senior was president.
Oh and has anyone seen that new lighting effect on Disneyland's version? Whenever the Disneyland Railroad passes the facade, the latter lights up in a rainbow of colors. That would be nice in Paris.

Now that would be 8)

That would be :D/ :D/ :D/
I don't get what the big deal is about a few characters added to IASW.
In California they don't look too bad (excluding American scene, poor compared to our version). I rate California's as the worst of all the IASW's, it needs a lot more work than has been but there would be murder if they changed it significantly, but thats a view/rant that I won't go into right now.
As long as they are themed to the existing ride there isn't an issue. If it gives the ride some TLC its worth the sacrifice of a few characters.
In my (humble) opinion, a good option would be to approach the sponsors of IASW (France Telecom I believe) and get them to cough up some money for the refurb. That way the cost to Eurodisney SCA is kept to a minimum and we all get light bulbs that are on and phone booths that work in the walkthrough section at the end. The sponsors can then be proud again of the work that bears their name.
Didn't French Telecom pull out of sponsorship at towards the end of 2008?
Was it not something to do with them being the same company as Orange and they didn't want two attractions at the resort.
I love it! I think that it would be brilliant! I love the Disney charcters, its not like they are tacky or don't fit in well- i would love the Paris IASW to add this! [-o<
lol Aveen
In the vid they have made it fit in very well tho!
I think it would be a great addition but i also think that ours will be left without this feature. I no that there completely different storylines but arnt we also the resort whos POTC has not had the POTC film revamp ?, it could be the same with IASW.
An update was envisioned last year to bring more European countries to the attraction here in Paris. This was confirmed by the Imageer who overseas all "it's a small world" attractions over the world, but I guess priorities have shifted.
thats a shame as part of a portugese family we would have liked Portugal to be represented in its a small world :(
yeh would of been nice to have more European Countries in it
Yeah , there should be more European Countries in it , e.g , Belarus , Russia , Malta , Belgium etc .

Russia and Belgium are in IASW.
not that Russia is technically part of Europe. :p
I found IASW a bit odd this visit - we went on it every day from Sunday 10th to Wednesday 13th. On Sunday evening, I couldn't see anything at all that wasn't working, including both fountains outside (and the sound was so clear we could hear the piper in the "white room" before we exited the ride).
By Monday morning however, a lot of the animatronics were not working, including all of the Scottish section, the can can dancers, the Irish dancers, the Balinese and Siamese exhibits, the Indian ladies, the flying carpets, the Egyptian winking lady, some of the animals in the African/rainforest section, and a couple of the Peruvian dancers too. In the final "white" room, the can can dancers, the swings, and the see-saw wheel weren't functioning (oh and one of the geese was stationary as well).
Tuesday, the Scottish dancers were working, but Nessie wasn't, the can-can dancers and the Indian ladies were still not dancing, and the Peruvian dancers were moving their bodies but not their arms. One goose and the see-saw wheel in the white room were still not working.
Wednesday, a few more improvements, but Nessie was still not having any of it, and the see-saw wheel was still not working.
Seems like lots of fuses are getting blown all at the same time on IASW  - and DD and I both commented on Sunday how great it was that everything was working - we must have jinxed it  .
Elaine
Anyone else a fan of the basket of fruit in the Polynesian scene?
It makes an appearance when one of the animatronics go on holiday.
ISAW (and Pirates) must be a nightmare to keep working 100%.
In my opinion, as much as I like Disney characters, in IASW I wouldn`t want to see them.
THe idea with more europeen countries on the other hand I would support.
We like that ride. My daughter always laughs about the hyena.
My two cents Aurora
Where about is Belgium and Russia in IASW ?
Quote from: "15yearsofMagic2008"Where about is Belgium and Russia in IASW ?
The Russian one is the represented by the onion domed St Basil's Cathedral from Moscow as well as the Kosak dancers.
Belgium is represented by the girl with a crook and the geese following her.
In fact, DLP's IASW has the largest representation of European countries of all the IASW's in the globe (and yet until recently, the US was missing from the American versions other than 2 figures). we even have Wales represented in ours.

Yeah, everyone knows how much we love geese!

Yep! As you are in the UK section, if you look up on the left hand side, there are three welsh children singing on the moon. I will see if I have a picture.
Ooops, sadly I do not have them, maybe some one else will. I will try to take a shot next week if need be.

No they are not. Ireland is on the left hand side, the Leprachauns, a rainbow and irish dancers.
Scotland is on the right hand side with the Loch Ness Monster, a castle and a piper.
I havent noticed Wales before, will look out for it next time!
That's one of the things I love about this ride, there's so much to look at that you always have things left to discover... And an excuse to ride it again and again :)
Once my wife and I sat on for 10 times in a row (night time in the low season). It was then I knew she was the "One" and decided to propose. I nearly did then and there on the ride, but I decided to wait until we had been home a few weeks to be sure.
true story.
Paris is my fav version of the ride, no doubt, and we often start our vacation on it if we are not there for EMH or rope drop.

That's a wonderful story, who knew that It's a Small World could have such a long lasting impact on someone (apart from the song getting stuck in your head for hours :P )
Lol, I was obsessed with the original as a child, and I am sure it is part of the reason why I studied international relations at Uni!
I would really looove to see the disney characters in iasw Paris!!! Although i love the attraction like it is, i think it's agreat idea to show where the fairytales come from..
I'm always happy seeing characters involved :) :) :) :D/
I would hate it. IASW isn´t about characters. It´s about connecting the world and diffrent nations. Would make more sense to keep two aliens from out of space inside IASW then only one disney character.
no sorry i like iasw just the way it is. they could improve it in other ways rather than putting characters. i hate that i can see the ugly ceiling it always distracts me to a point where i try sooooooooooo hard not to look up but i know its there lol
lol no ireland and scotland are not the same in any way there are two different countries thats like saying america and mexico are the same lol

No thank you...
Then again, I would be perfectly happy if there were no toons in DLP.
