There´s some work at the autopia attractions. Some say they make a new entrance sign. Do somebody knows more about that?
Here are some pics from mousy.be:

Refurb of the photo location and the seating area around it. :)
Wow we have a photolocation there??? I never made a pic in front of it! Maybe since the WDS are open I´m always thinking Photolocations need a BIG backdrop or something else
Yeah - one of the cars in front of the entrance. :-)
But especially when it was crowded, you could easily have overseen it.
I´m very excited how the new one will look like!!!!
Nice to see there they're refurbing the photolocation :)
According to members on the MiceChat forum, there is going to be a new logo as well.
Quote from: "DLRP_bopazot on MiceChat"Since monday a New Photolocation next to the ride with a backdrop will appear .
like HKDL Version it looks very colorfull and the Logo on the top of the Main Entrance . That is actually why the ride will go down for a few days .
the new Logo will look like Tommorrowland stylish design . Pics from the walls to come ......
Anyone know any more about this? :-k

I'm guessing the new logo would/will also have the Ford logo much more prominent...
Nice to see they're taking care of Autopia though, even if the "Tomorrowland style" words do scare me. Not sure if it's connected, but since they took over sponsoring from Esso, the attraction seems to have been open MUCH more and running better too (which wouldn't be hard, to be honest).
Quote from: "Anthony"... and running better too (which wouldn't be hard, to be honest).
Well you say running better but when i was there in august my car broke down at possibly furthest point from the station :P
To be honest, i dont mind a new logo with sponsorship, certainly wont make me go out and buy a ford car :P
Elessar over on the Disney Central Plaza boards has posted some images:

Note - that the sign is in French and Spanish - what does that mean/tell you about the visitors? Whether the other side of the triangle sign has other languages on it isn't said in the original thread.

I'd guess/hope that the other side has French and English. Things are going to get complicated soon.

Nice cones. Is it being rethemed to Toy Story 2? :P
It should be finished by now, right?
with ever increasing gas prices isn't it time this attraction was closed and something else put there, like test track? It has low capacity, and am I missing something, but is it that relevant to kids today?

No you're not missing anything, and I kind of agree with you, nut for some reason unknown to me I absolutely love Autopia! I am slightly ashamed to admit that though, especially considering my age and the fact that I can drive on normal road

I remembered seeing this signs before. They have also other languages. But it will getting harder and harder if any country want its own sign :|

Of course it could be that they put it in Spanish because September is the busiest month for the Spanish and Portuguese guests. They dont go back to school until October so as someone pointed out to me its the cheapest time for them to go.
I did notice a huuuuuuuge amount of Spanish speaking guests when I went.
Of course it probably also has english on the other side  its just my theory I thought up in my little head lol so its probably wrong ;)
A look through a hole in the fence reveals... not much!

The sign is in English too btw.
Hm where is kristof in this picture?
Don´t see much new. But I´m the guy who runs all the time near the autopia photolocation at didn´t even know that it excist.
Hey!
Can anyone please kindly inform me when the works in front of autopia will be ready?I hope they will be ready by the 5th of october, when I visit dlrp :P

i hope its open when i go :(
Oh God... That's awful. Another attraction they're ripping the soul out of.
I wouldn't be surpirsed if our Discoveryland turned into a boring and unoriginal Tomorrowland in the future.
I don't mind the sign. What I do mind is they put a sign up and then the neons on part of it are still burnt out grrrrrrr.

I actually kinda like the new logo, it's still in the line of the old Discoveryland, but less '90's. Also, it's much clearer to spot from a distance.
The original logo could barely be seen:

Huh?! Where is it??
I don't know... The colours and the font of the new logo just shout "Tomorrowland" at me.
I think it would look better like this...

I agree with what you've said too, it'd look a lot better like it is in your edited version RnRCj =D>
I see they've put the "I" upside down in the new logo as well. #-o Notice how all the letters fade downwards from yellow to red, but the "I" is the other way round.
QuoteI don't know... The colours and the font of the new logo just shout "Tomorrowland" at me.
I still don't get how this looks Tomorrowland? The font and colour style fits in nicely in the '50s vision of the ride. The logo in my opinion looks great compared to Laser Blast...
And red/yellow are also the main colours used in the adverts along the track:

They should turn around the I though...

The new logo looks fine to me (albeit with the "I" upside down). The only thing to improve it would be this version.
Another comparison.

When I just scanned this topic I thought RNRCj's purple one was the actual logo, so I was a bit surprised to see it's actually yellow and orange letters they used. Who the hell decided on that? It's certainly... let's say, brave...
Do I like it? Well, at least now you can see it. Bad Points: The colours literally make me feel sick (green neons, purple neons, blue backgrounds, yellow/red letters, turquoise, silver and bronze steel? Bluerk), most of it doesn't fit with Discoveryland and the "i" is upside down as we've all said.
Maybe if they soon get electric cars and make it a more "2000s futuristic" rather than the petrol-powered "1950s retro" it'll work, but right now it's the wrong side of futuristic for me. Kristof showing the cool 1950s (ACTUAL 1950s) billboards just make it look more out of place. It looks like something you'd see at a Ford showroom at the side of the road.
It's surprising how much a small colour change makes the whole thing work. Currently, it looks like funfair-chic. The purple, however, looks classy. Campaign for RNRCj's purple letters!!!
this may sound a dumb question and sorry if wrong place to post
how dose Autopia ride work, what do you do when your ridding on it?

Exactly my thoughts. The logo on itselfs isn't that bad really, but the colours make it look tacky. Just look at RNRCj's photoshopped image and draw your own conclusions. This has nothing to do with money however, with the same budget they could have opted for a logo like RNRCj's... this has to do with taste, something an Imagineer should have in the first place. Who came up with this tacky colourscheme?
It seems like there are two entirely different teams of Imagineers at play in Discoveryland; the Imagineers who created the new topping bars at Hyperion and the information board (=the team that seems to get it right), and the Imagineers who created the awful exterior of Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast, Cool Station, the tacky colourscheme of the new Autopia logo (and by the looks of it; the renewed Autopia photolocation).
Besides, was a new Autopia logo really nescessary? I would rather see them spending the money on other issues in the park (sprucing things up for example). But I assume that Ford paid for the new Autopia logo?
I like the new logo, although the photoshop logo looks a little bit better. At least you can see it now. And I also think that Ford paid for it.
I know it's off topic, but we are receiving the Ford Magazine once a month and in one of the last issues there was an article about DLRP's Tower Of Terror.
Quote from: "dagobert"I like the new logo, although the photoshop logo looks a little bit better. At least you can see it now.
I assume you would have found the entrance to Autopia even with a logo that was less visible? Its not like the attraction is hidden or something.
The new logo is a lot easier to see,but I have to say I think it looks more 1970s than anything else !!! So it does give it a Tomorrowland look in a bad way ! The revised colours are better than the orange though .
Ugh!!! It looks like a corporate logo! The old one was otherworldly, this is like a fast food chain.
And the old logo didn't looks "90s" at all.

No, it looked like the 1970's version of Battlestar Galactica...

Alright, you can sneeze at it all you want, haters, haha... But I think it was an excellent logo that utilized its context (i.e. the rings). It was slightly offbeat in a stylish retrofuturistic manner. Unlike the new logo.

:offtopic: You steer it (only certain amount before it locks back along the track) and have a throttle/clutch/brake pedal (Its all 1 pedal, press to go)
As for the topic in hand, i think the new logo looks good (y) but i still feel its holding and area that could be used for something else
Hmm..not quite sure what to think of this new logo. For me personally, i get a more Hong Kong Disneyland feeling while looking at it.
OMG. I´m a bit shocked. It doesn´t look like this cars of the future ride. It looks like an old Esso-fuelling-stations-sign from the 80ties. In

Exactly. What was wrong with the old position of the logo. Why haven´t they changed simply the color of the old one if they wanna get sure that everyone could spot it. Hope the photo location won´t be the same desaster!

Puss, I definitely view you as someone with taste, and as original as the old logo was (and the idea of using the rings was quite neat), it was hard to read.
Trust me, you *have* to make it as easy as possible to guests to identify an attraction. Autopia's sign didn't really do that.

Well thank you, but surely there was a way to make it stand out a bit more without removing it altogether and replacing it with this thing? They could have painted it, laminated it with a shiny bronze, added a light effect or created a second, clearer sign in the same style (surely there are sketches and blueprints around of the original designs). They could even have rearranged the old letters in the same horizontal inclination as the new sign. Or asked the person who did the new information board...
The point is, they could have done lots of things that wouldn't have involved an intern with Adobe Illustrator. But ah well, I suppose it's just a sign.
I like it.
It looks like a combination of the 60th and a more modern way...
And... because of the different colours... the bright yellow and orange you can see it from far behind constellations.
Another darker colour would make it less visible

I think that just simply using the old letters and making them a bit bigger would have worked. The vibrant colours and the general style of the new logo just seem like something from a tacky amusement park to me. Not Discoveryland at all.

Looks surprisingly great at night, I guess because there are fewer colours, and the new photo location is a big improvement. Definitely some 1950s in there. Maybe we can warm to this after all...
The blue swirl is what might be ruining it. The font on its own could pass for retro, but the McDonald's swirl, no thanks. Too modern.

Actually, it's not too bad at night, perhaps I could warm to it after all, we'll just have to wait until they've finished it all and opened it. I see they've fixed the 'I' as well
It's just hit me that this new look is a bit like Disney Village: it disappoints at first, but then looks better at night

Yes, the blue swirl is yucky. If they got ride of that and changed the colour of the letters to purple (like the old logo) I think it would be a lot better.
It does look better at night, but only because the blue swirl isn't lit up. The majority of people will only see it in the day anyway.
Looks like they've finished...

Thanks 4 the update! =D>
The photo location looks pretty good as a stand-alone. It matches the the style of the signs along the track.
I really like the new Autopia logo, especially when it is illuminated. And the photolocation looks great too.
Well, I guess it could have been worse... But it's still far too modern for Discoveryland. Autopia, already pushing the late 19th century feel of its neighboring attractions, had this 1940s/'50s feel to it — this is more a combination of 1960s Jetsons whimsy and well, today. It might have looked less jarring if it had been symmetrical, or had less swooshy vectors in it, or more demure colors. A slightly hand-made feel would have been more appropriate, a la: http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/d ... C07053.JPG (http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/disneyland_park/discoveryland/autopia/DSC07053.JPG%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;) But I'll stop overanalyzing everything and annoying everyone now...
Well, I like the new sign and even the photolocation! If we can't ride Autopia this time, I just sit in this car and my boyfriend takes a picture of me
The photo location looks okay. :? I don't like the purple background and the logo is still ruining it, but it could have been a lot worse.
I took two pictures of the photo location Friday the 3rd of October and discovered something that looked like a Hidden Mickey. What do you think? Coincidence or real Hidden Mickey? The size of the 'head and ears' seem to be in the right perspective.

You'll find the Hidden Mickey in the center of the second picture. It's made by the trees.
I don´t like the photolocation (maybe mostly cause this ugly sign with this blue something on it) but this is a nice detail
has autopia re-opend yet?
