Disneyland park will celebrate for the very first time Saint Patrick's Day on March 17, 2005.
Minnie and Mickey will dress up for the occasion and so will their pals to dance and sing to traditional Celtic music.
The day concludes as Sleeping Beauty Castle becomes a glow of green under dazzling bursts of fireworks!

I wonder if they'll bring the Chinese Newyear back to one of the parks too. :) :?:
This sounds really nice touch and it has nothing to do with my name is in the day :D . WOW what is up with Disneyland Resort Paris, the other week a welsh festival and now this oh it's like they want to celebrate stuff in and around the UK these days, maybe this is their really quite nice way of trying to get more Irish visitors to the resort. Plus the fireworks sound quite nice to end the day :) .
oh oh oh my God. 17th march 2006 is my 20 b-day.
:cheshire_bounce: thank you disneyland *___*
Quoteoh oh oh my God. 17th march 2006 is my 20 b-day.
That's awesome! Buzz Lightyear Laserblast is opening on my birthday. :D
ahhh, 17th march 2006 is mine and my partners 7th anniversary.
it would be lovvely to spend it in disneyland
everybody there, on 17th march 2006 :P
It's nice to see something like this actually in Disneyland Park itself for once, rather than as a random mini-festival in Disney Village.
I was surprised to read there would be fireworks for this, and actually thought that it was wrong when i read the press release, but I guess it's true! Well done DLRP!
Things like this will definately help to get more people interested in the resort. I can actually imagine people who aren't even Irish going to the resort to celebrate the day, thanks to those fireworks...
Well, good to hear there is another day to celebrate at DLRP.
But where does Saint Patrick ('s Day) stand for?
It's a day celebrated mostly by the Irish about Saint Patrick who is an irish saint amazingly  , well here's a link to something about the origins, I'm too tired to type it

ok, thnx for the quick reply!!

I have seen this green elves in a cartoon once (i believe it was a Johnny Bravo cartoon). Now i finally understand the elves attitude :P
Good news for everyone bearing the name Patrick  ! They'll get a free 1 day Hopperpass on Saint-Patricks Day at DLRP! :D
Now that's evil  , do they include free eurostar too now that would be a dream come true :P .

Wow, so you'll be going even earlier to dlrp than you expected!
Has anyone got any pics of what to expect?
The only photo released is one featuring Chip n Dale in front of the castle, with fireworks in the sky. It looks a bit cheap really, since they've just put a green filter on it to use it for the event.
Nothing else has been released, they've never done this celebration before, either...
I can't scan it, but in the Tribune (intern newspaper at DLRP) they have a Mickey dressed in traditionnal Celtic Costume in front of the Castle and green fireworks promoting the day; QUite good actually and better than the crappy Chip and Dale one.
I think this is the image you're talking about, Kinou:

You're right, it does look really good! :o Shame they had to mirror the castle for no reason again though...
LOL, look at these two:

Chip 'n Dale will be doing Irish dancing on Central Plaza, with the WWODP begun by Mickey & Minnie dressed in Irish costumes and the Paris & Disrict Pipe Band. The fireworks are mentioned too, but they just say they'll be green, nothing more. I doubt they'll be as big as the ones in the publicity photo. Maybe we should prepare ourselves now for the onslaught of complaining fans?

Thanks for the photos! Looks like a really good event - much more going on than I expected, actually.
The fireworks look surprisingly good too - can you tell us anything more about them? Music, duration, etc. etc.? :D
Mickey & Minnie's costumes are great:

What music was used during the desplay?
Looks very nice. Only thing i really don't understand is....why??!?!?!
What's so special about st. patricks day? I have no idea what that whole thing is about, i only know it's about a little green dwarf.. :?
If they are starting to celebrate this, then i really think they should celebrate other countries festivities aswell.
So please tell me what's so special that this should be celebrated in DLRP as one of the only events, otherwise i think they should start celebrating our Dutch Queensday aswell on 30th...
Please dont make that huge list up like on tdf's forum Jorien!!! Allthough it was VERY funny!!
I'm not planning to.
But i really don't understand what the fuss is all about with this st. patricks day thing. So it should be something really special otherwise i really think they should start celebrating festivities from other countries aswell!
p.s. really offtopic, but when will that title be changed beneath my name? I really don't like that 'chernabog' title..... :?
i kind of worked out every 50th post i make my leval changes but maybe it is more the higher ammount of post u make
Quote from: "Dlrpfan"What music was used during the desplay?
Dlrp.fr is reporting that it was mainly traditional Irish folk songs/music, but with a bit of Pirates of the Caribbean added in there too! :D

Well, it's the national saint's day for Ireland, and since so many people have connections with that country (ancestry, family), it's celebrated all over the world. In England we don't bother to celebrate St. George's Day at all, but loads of people go out for St. Patrick's day. It's just a very popular event, and personally I'm really happy to see DLRP using it to get some new visitors who perhaps might not have usually thought about visiting the resort.
Of course, some people might think they're favouring the Irish, but I think they're pretty much wrong! It's a bigger celebration than Bastille Day, it's about time they did something for it...

I think it was all paid by the Irish themselves. Yesterday seemed to be 1 big publicity for Ireland (Irish dancers, St-Patricks Day everywhere, a pre-parade, an Irish fireworks)
The reason why I think: In Disney Village were some 'chalets' promoting every region of Ireland.
I've uploaded a video of the fireworks display!
It's in DivX, so if you can't open the file, download the plugin.

Brilliant video, brilliant display! Thanks! :D
Irish music really fits fireworks well (it worked well with the old Treasure Planet new year fireworks), and I was impressed at how closely the fireworks fitted with the music - the ending in particular was very well done. Definite thumbs up from me, and I wasn't even there!

Yeah, now that I think about it, it's a good thing to do for both DLRP and Ireland. DLRP get extra (Irish) visitors and Ireland's tourist board get some great publicity for their country for people from all over Europe who are in DLRP.
Indeed a lot of Irish yesterday in the parks. Most of them were dressed up with Irish flags, hats, feather boa's, ... even some men were dressed up as Saint-Patrick and giving autographs :s.

Yes as a matter of fact i think indeed that they are favouring the irish here. That reason you gave me to attract more visitors, isn't enough to convince me. If they would be celebrating another event from another country they could attract more visitors too then, so why only celebrate this day?
What you said about lots of people go out for st. patrick's day, yeah in your country maybe, not in mine!
Still no idea what this whole day is about, so you have to come up with something better than this!!
I don't see why anyone here has to defend or explain St Patricks day. The discussion about why and how is closed.
Come on, it's a discussion board isn't it? I'm just trying to see why this event is being held there.
sorry if you think i'm trying to provoke or something......
Well, I'm guessing it's being held there so that DLRP get some more visitors from a different, new audience and also so that Ireland can promote what they have to offer to a wider range of Europeans, who might not usually consider visiting the country. So, basically, Ireland and DLRP want to make money, and St. Patrick's is the perfect oppertunity. It's also a lot of fun...
I think the fact is, St. Patrick's Day is a big event WORLDWIDE. Probably the biggest national celebration day of any country - it's celebrated across the globe, whereas most other countries' national days aren't. Even July 4th isn't much of a worldwide event, despite the US being so huge. I think celebrating St Patricks in DLRP probably attracted more people than if they'd have done St. Georges Day or the Dutch Queen's day or whatever.
I do agree that they should add some kind of Dutch event at DLRP though. They've got things for the UK (Bonfire), Ireland (St Patricks) and France (Bastille) now, amongst others. But would you visit DLRP for a Dutch celebration?
Sinterklaas is being celebrated on December 6 at Disney Village.
From a technical perspective, this display is far superior to Wishes. The timing of those green mines (the bursts from the ground) is so accurate and the awesome fan pattern at the end is also great. It's far more elaborate than the Wishes one and I'm now convinced they used different technology to fire these fireworks. :P
The display was really good actually. The music mix was fun and the design of the display seemed to be in more patterns than before. They emphasised the sources of the fireworks by having fewer (rather than it all being a blur like normal).
I'm so impressed with everything from yesterday!
Quote from: "raptor1982"Sinterklaas is being celebrated on September 6 at Disney Village.
I guess you mean December 6th? Why then? In the Netherlands we celebrate it at the 5th of December, so even our Sinterklaas fest has got a Flemish flavour to it...
I would really support a Queens Day at the Resort. I mean, its on the 30th of April, so at least the Netherlands has got a week off then. I don't know when the other countries do have their holidays but it would really bring in some more people from the Netherlands in that particular day/week. I don't wanna start a country/language topic, but it's time Disney does something towards the Dutch. Common, we are the third country with more then one million Dutch visitors every year, and they can't even announce a parade in proper Dutch. I really feel it's a shame. Besides that... would some fireworks, a Queens Day event at Disney Village and some extra decorations hurt that much?
So.. I lost all my anger for the coming weeks... lets get positive again... :D
And lets get back on topic about Saint Patricks day.
PS. the Netherlands are on the fourth place
Quote from: "raptor1982"PS. the Netherlands are on the fourth place
Before we go back ontopic, just one last thing: which country does stand on the third place then? I really thought I read somewhere that France was on the first spot, United Kingdom on the second, and the Netherlands on the third one. I'm curoious now, is it Spain or something? :)
lol, yes Martin, it's Spain! :D (Belgium comes 5th)
Appearently, this topic has caused some issues amongst some board members.
I would like to point out that on this board anything can be discussed, but in the right topic. If you want to dream up a new season or one day celebration, feel free to post your ideas in the Imagineering board! 8)
