Disney's Christmas Season: A Fairytale Christmas
5th November - 8th january 2005
Disneyland Park will once again celebrate "A Fairytale Christmas" this November, December and January, so here's a topic to discuss everything about the most magical season of them all!
If you want to discuss the Christmas celebrations in other parts of the resort, check out their own topics in other sections of the forum.
Rumours are already appearing for this year's celebration in Disneyland Park. It seems that Le Noel de Mickey will return for one final year, whilst Belle's Christmas Village, Mickey's Winter Wonderland, Belle's Musical Medley and The Christmas Parade will return mainly the same as last year. The Enchanted Fairytale Ceremony will return in much the same style as last year's very successful performance, but with countless changes and improvements throughout. It looks likely that the classic Disney characters will also appear this time, instead of just the Princes and Princesses.
As for the park's famous decorations, rumours appeared a while ago about the Lights of Winter (the massive old white light arches) not being used this year. Now, a rumour has appeared that they will be replaced by giant chandeliers, which will be placed at intervals down Main Street USA and will probably be designed to fit in with the beautiful Princess Baubles which were added to Central Plaza last year.
Less than two months to go!! :D :D Get posting those rumours, everyone!
Sounds very good again! And about those light arches, i trust it will be very nice too. I think the complete decoration will even look better this year than last year.
* Really have to start planning a new trip now, don't want to miss the fairytale ceremony again*
Thanks to "clemrev" on Disney Central Plaza, here's a beautiful piece of concept art for how Central Plaza will look this year:
As you can see, it looks pretty much the same as last year, although there are new lampposts around the hub. I think these may be used for the whole of Main Street too, but then again my translation skills aren't too good!
It also sounds like the Disney characters will this time cross Fantasyland from the Fantasy Festival Stage before walking through the castle and over the bridge to get to the stage. It'll solve the horrible guest flow problems on Main Street last year as well as making for a much more magical entrance.
I wonder if they'll be this clever with the stage, and make it higher so that you can see over the top of people who put their kids on their shoulders? *starts getting annoyed again* :x
Yeah it really needs to be higher for sure, although much higher it could get dangerous :P
I love it how they always add extras in the concept art. The whole of Central Plaza covered with snow. Now that's something I have to see! Love the new lamps too, very victorian Christmassy and will give a warming glow on a cold night. Superb! Can't wait to see it all!
The new official Christmas Season website is online already: http://www.disneymagicalchristmas.com/i ... ?l=uk&c=uk (http://www.disneymagicalchristmas.com/index.php?l=uk&c=uk)
It's quite similar to the recent Halloween one - it seems to have been designed in the same way and the navigation is just as simple and easy-to-use.
Remember last year's (and 2003's) Christmas website? This one is a million times better! :D
I got this newsflash from a CM friend yesterday: 2 huge chandeliers have been installed in the beginning of Main Street.
First picture:

Thanks for the news Raptor! It looks... interesting. It's not exactly huge and doesn't have any immediate impact, but I'm sure they'll look pretty special when there's more of them and they're finished.
Just looking at this "chandelier" though, I'm quite impressed. I like how the crown looks like the castle's front (the main window), and the Main Street-style portraits of the Princesses are nice.
It seems they went the "Wishes" route with these, and instead of the over-the-top but spectacular Lights of Winter, we're getting smaller, cosier, but much, much more magical lights. I still think * nothing * will ever match the Lights of Winter, but this doesn't look like it will be a bad attempt. :D
The lights are on!

They look pretty good. The light from them is kinda blue-ish, so it's quite wintery (i'm inventing lots of words today) and magical. Still no match for the lights of winter, but a better than average effort from the resort all the same. :D
And here's some more daytime photos, for a closer look at the new lights:

The closer you look the nicer they are - they look very posh. ;)
I'm still trying to get used to them actually. They look more like something WDW would have, but at least the fact that they've put them up so early means we've got more time to get used to them.
I can understand the resort changing to these lights too, since they will be cheaper to put up, cheaper to run and cheaper to maintain.
If you look at te pic in the post above the last one (at night) the dlrpmagazine link almost looks like an illuminated garland when you look at the small pic. I still think the DLR/WDW style garland over the street would look nice. You could still see the castle better than previous years also.
I really hope they add plenty of other features along the street as these new lights are quite sparse :D
*dances around* Belle's on a lamp post, Belle's on a lamp post
Sorry 'bout that. I think it's looks magical already. Can't wait to see what it's gonna look like in December!

Yeah, when I first saw the lights I hoped that that was what they had planned. The lights still look a little bit too industrial at the moment, but I'm sure once all the Christmas decorations are up they'll look great. I still think it's absolutely crazy how early they put them up.
A garland over the street would be really nice, but I don't think it'll happen. :( There's no kind of space to hang one from the lights and it wasn't on the concept art. That doesn't stop them from using the old Christmas advert showing Disneyland CA's Main Street with a garland across it though! Actually, I'm impressed with how much that seems to be on TV this year - I hardly watch TV but already I've seen it about 3 times on ITV1. :)
And an extra note for anyone going this Christmas - dlrpmagazine.com is reporting that DLP's parades will run "backwards". No, not actually backwards, but the opposite direction along the parade route. The Christmas Parade will go from Main Street to Fantasyland and Fantillusion will go Fantasyland to Main Street.
Some rumours have suggested that the Disney Village Christmas Market wouldn't appear this year, but according to DLRP schedules it *will* be there, from 9th December 2005 to 1st January 2006. :)
I hope most things for christmas return, these markets sounded like a nice magical touch to a truely magical day, oh well if they don't appear doubt it would annoy me too much, since I am hoping fingers crossed to go sometime in December for a day or 2, I just so much want to see Christmas this year there, the chandilliers look nice, plus they will fit in so well with the whole idea of the Central Plaza themeing, since that also is white white white  .
I've found this on miceage:

I like it!!! :D That looks so nice!!
I hope it looks that good in reality! :D
DLRP's Christmas advertising looks really beautiful this year...

Doesn't the castle look awesome?! :D :o
Wow Halloween season for 2004, christmas season for 2005 perhaps, DLRP seem to love decorating, I hope the castle comes out so great this Christmas, would look so beautiful and magical. I am loving all this new look for DLRP this Christmas, shows they can do things really well for seasons when they put their minds to it, now if only Chicken Little could get the boot from Studio 1 :P .
Christmas is about to begin!
Things are looking great so far. I like these new decorations:
And... WOW... Have they made the Enchanted Fairytale Ceremony stage higher? It definately looks like it...
(//http://www.dlrp.fr/news/upload/dlp/installnoel/installnoel3small.jpg) (//http://www.dlrp.fr/news/upload/dlp/installnoel/installnoel3.jpg)
There's that extra, darker bit underneath the stage - I'm sure it wasn't there last year. If they have made it higher - praise the lord! DLRP are amazing!!! We'll finally be able to see over the top of children on parents' shoulders now!
(Source & More: http://www.dlrp.fr/ (http://www.dlrp.fr/) )
Yeah, LOADS higher! It was one of the problems last year and the year before though... you just couldn't see everything because of people's heads in the way. This should be much better, but it does look really strange still.
I have such high hopes with this show. Not only the music is great, but character voices in the show again! So excited!
hi all
does anyone know if there is somewhere that kids can have their photo taken with santa?
we're taking joe (autistic, age 8 ) with us just after christmas and he keeps saying 'see santa' we don't know if he will be able to so can't answer his question. does anone know the answer????
thank you.
There certainly is a chance to meet Santa!
He does scheduled meet 'n' greets in both parks during the season, offering two chances to meet him in two *very* different photo locations! :D
In Disneyland Park, you can meet him at the end of Main Street in his sleigh, next to Casey's Corner, where he'll be in the little area usually assigned to Mickey in the Summer. Times: 12.30, 16.45, 18.30
You can also meet him in Walt Disney Studios Park, where he's right at the heart of the Backlot, stood next to his special "Pere Noel" Monster Truck - though he obviously isn't as good at driving it as he is with his sleigh, because it's resting on top of a crushed police car! :D I'm not sure of the times for this yet, so just check your park guide map when you're there!
I hope you have an amazing Christmas in the resort! :sorcerer:
Look at this:

It seems the castle will be frozen a bit more this year! (the second section of lights from the top is new)
some pictures and movies at sven's diary....
http://users.pandora.be/patscompany/Dis ... /index.htm (http://users.pandora.be/patscompany/DisneySite/castmember/index.htm)
Could just be the picture, but I think I prefered the castle more last year, with the 'softer' frozen look.
It just look a little too harsh this year.
It was just the pictures.
Looks fantastic here...

picture thanks to Sound Engineer
BTW, Santa is now in his Sleigh on Town Square. The same prop, just new locations
The small video of the Enchanted Fairytale Ceremony light-up in Sven's diary looks brilliant, even better than last year! I like the way the castle now properly lights up from the bottom and takes longer to light up too - normal guests will be expecting it to stop, but it just keeps on lighting up and up! They really milk the lights for all they're worth this year, which is good. :D The music is brilliant too. I'm not a big fan of the carols at the start, the but the light-up section is great.
I like the look of the chandeliers too. They're not as romantic and warm as the arches, perhaps a bit to frosty/icey, but they fit the castle and look very elegant.
I hope someone puts a full video of the Enchanted Fairytale Ceremony online soon - from Sven's photos it looks like they have last year's cast as well as lots of extra Disney characters! From the looks of it, that higher stage has helped a lot too. :D
Wow, it's like I'm being paid to say positive things - DLRP just always get Christmas SO right!
You can find lots of nice photos of the illuminations, decorations, shops, etc. around Disneyland Park here: http://www.disneymagicinteractive.com/v ... php?t=1220 (http://www.disneymagicinteractive.com/viewtopic.php?t=1220) :D
It's unbelieveable how Christmassy I feel at the moment, and it's only November 6th!
Quote from: "Kris"BTW, Santa is now in his Sleigh on Town Square. The same prop, just new locations
You're right  - I suppose they want him to be a bit more prominent this year then? It's a shame, though, that by putting the sleigh there, they've once again blocked the view of the castle!

The rumour about the characters arriving from the Castle for the Enchanted Fairytale Ceremony was true. Last year the Princesses arrived in a cariage with the Princes on horses, but this year they all arrive from inside the castle itself. :D
That solves the huge problem guest flow had last year, when they had to clear half the parade route in 10mins!
Do you know anything else about the show's format? What music is played when what happens? The sequence of events? I'm dying to see a full video here!
I adore the Disneyland main entrance decorations on the front of the Disneyland Hotel, but the Railroad Station really does still look disgusting. It's so cheap and tasteless in comparisson with everything else. I'm sure that they could do a better job, easily!
Nice to see that they bought new trees and lights for the Christmas Tree Forest on Town Square though. They look a lot more elegant this year... was never a fan of the character trees 8)
I'll try to get a video online as soon as possible, but another website will probably beat me to it, since I don't have that much time. :)
It'd be great to have a video anytime Raptor, we're not *that* impatient, honest... I'm not sure if you will get "beaten" at this rate - no other site has even mentioned a video!
Hope you had a good time too, let us know how this year's season compares to 2004's - what are the illuminations like in reality? What's the atmosphere like?
Oh well, a site did beat you, but I'd still love to see the vid Kristof :D . Have a cool trip? Of course you did!
Well, the treelightning was nearly the same as last year, but extented with the Fab 7 characters. When they showed up, I was affraid they would mess up everything, but they rather completed the show from last year! The chandeliers are quite nice, not as impressive as the lights of winter, but still nice! We were surprised when even the poles lit up.
Quote from: "Kris"Oh well, a site did beat you
Which one? :?
Glad you liked the ceremony Raptor! I was afraid Mickey & co would "cheapen" it a bit, but it sounds like they do an OK job. It definately sounds like more of a fully-fledged show now, even though there's only an extra few minutes of action. :)
LOL I wish I was sure. :P A friend sent me the video from another site, so it is available somewhere. Until you see the vid, I placed story of what happens online... hopefully it might make descriptions a little clearer. After all, the show this year is almost double the length of last year's "show" element. :D

There is a video made by Filipv, posted on his forum. It's an hour long (200mb), and it includes the fairytale ceremony (very nice to see the disney characters singing along on stage with the christmas music), mickeys winter wonderland and also Belle's musical medley (great to see that on video).
Here is the link, special thanks to Filipv!!

Have fun watching!
p.s. to all of you who i still have to send an email to...i will do that very soon!
Has It's A Small World been turned into the Christmas "Celebration" this year? I just read on another forum that the decorations of previous years seem to be almost inexistant this year...
I think it would be a really good idea to focus on IASW next year. This year we got the new lights and Fairytale Ceremony, so next year Disneyland Park could get the "NEW It's A Small World - Christmas CELEBRATION". If they actually advertised it then it would be really really popular!
And for a Christmas WDS attraction, how about putting a Christmas Aerosmith song on Rock N Roller Coaster? (I'm guessing they've done one at some point) They could also design an exclusive light show of reds and greens... I don't think it would be hard to get the record company to give the go ahead for it.
They could also add a special Christmas scene to Animagique, or maybe change the TV Studios' Art Attack set into one for a Christmas TV show...
Does anyone have any other ideas like this? :D
Some Christmas jingles in the Cinema Parade. :D
Wouldn't it be great to adapt Phantom Manor into a Corpse Bride attraction for the christmas season? I know...it has nothing to do with christmas. But it's a bit the same as they do with haunted mansion and nightmare before christmas. And while i was watching Corpse Bride it seemed a bit like the storyline of phantom manor....
Christmas officially begins tomorrow! Yipee. (And I might just be allowed to put up decorations) Just another 11 days til next trip to Disneyland, our annual Christmas visit. Can't wait! Heard it snowed at weekend.Pics looked beautiful bt hope the weather isn't too crazy when we go...not that it'll make much difference though - other than certain people will be tempted to stay in front of the fire at Sequoia Lodge when they should be in the parks!!!
so, they changed Santa's location, mh. good. i think it will be better than the past one which is a little unvisible. last year i spoke with santa a lot, 'cause he was there, alone in that cold disneyland's night. eheh.
i can't see filip's video ç_ç
29 days, 29 days, and i will be in magic *__*
A Christmas scene for animagique would be a real bonus allright.
I've been trying to find a good version of carol of the bells to listen to but it's difficult.Of course it's the only one not on chante Noel or any of the disney cd releases but mind you neither is it on any christmas cd I've found. I think that tune and disney go sooo well together.memories of walking under the lights of winter to that eerily beautiful song....
Incidentally it is also in The Santa Clause (Tim Allen) but not on the soundtrack :(
(And it's the ringtone on my mobile...  :) :D )
You're very right about that song, i like it a lot too, very christmassy!
I sent you a PM.
