Title: Adults in costume?in Paris parks...
Post by: anthonysprincess on May 01, 2008, 01:02:43 AM
Do the theme parks at Disneyland Resort Paris allow adults to wear costumes into the park? The American parks don't but Tokyo does (but they're not under Disney managemnet of course) and I don't know about HK or Paris. But I heard Paris does. My dress isn't really a costume in the sense that it doesn't make me LOOK like a Disney character but I got into some trouble trying to get into MK wearing it for some reason just because it is a Minnie dress...so if they're not very strict it's perhaps an option as well. Please let me know your knowledge of this rule if it exisits or not and if they're strict enough to not let me in in a Minnie dress like WDW...

Thank you!

This pic was of course taken during the Pirate and Princess party when adults ARE allowed to wear costumes so it was no problem but you can see an example of the all-important dress which I want to wear there so badly! Without the corset over it it was in question. im sure with the silver corset it looks less conspicuous.:

In Paris adults are not allowed to wear costumes, apart from during the Halloween Soiree on 31st October.

And even during the Halloween soiree you have to be careful wearing a Disney costume...  Never pose to get pictures with guests or give autographs...  Otherwise you will be tapped on your shoulder by security.

QuoteThe American parks don't but Tokyo does (but they're not under Disney managemnet of course)

Tokyo Disneyland only allows guest to dress up during Halloween on certain dates. Usually the 12th of September, and the 29th and 31st of October. Rules are fairly strict here and your costumes must be Disney related or else you will be denied access to the park.

It's really annoying because it doesn't make me look like a Disney character :( it's just a Minnie Mouse dress. So I suppose it's up to the opinion of the person at the gate really. But I'd rather stay on the safe side because it's also annoying to have to turn around and go back to the hotel to change. Thanks for your responses

Walt Disney World. It is Minnie's "Million Dreams" outfit(so, yes, it is a children's dress)... It has fiber-optics in the skirt and lights up. Which is why I love it so much and want to wear it there so bad. I bought it to wear to the parks for pictures, not thinking it would count against the "costume" rule since it doesn't in any way make me look like a Disney character...but apparently it does? I was thinking perhaps i'll wear it with that silver corset over it to Paris because then it won't have anything to do with Disney-Ill cover minnie totally-and they won't say anything. :/

I was thinking it look s alittle like Alice in Wonderland.

BUT where is the cut off for denying you access. Would they turn away anyone with yellow shoes and white gloves? or A green hat and brown chord (sp?) pants??

Hard to say. :|

Yeah it IS rather odd-I pointed out to them that Im not a mouse but they weren't amused...lol

Not to be concieted but I think if I didn't look so good in the dress they wouldn't have turned me away! Like Ive seen people in Minnie dresses and full-blown Minnie costumes-the shoes, the EARS etc(the day I tried to go to MK in that I wasnt wearing the ears or anything)- and they are let in (probably because this lady looked AWFUL in it) I just think that I probably looked up to the Disney quality in it and that's why they didn't want me coming in. I know that sounds snooty but you get my point?

Myself and my girlfriend went to the pirates and princess party last year and know what you mean, we proper went for it as pirates, and they were less than impressed with us as ppl were getting us confused as cast members, even tho it was acceptable for adults to dress like that. I can totally understand why tho, as if you do something out of place and ppl think your a disney employee, then it will reflect quite badly on them at the end of the day.

Well I think it's silly because if someone came up to me and asked me to pose for a pic Id say no and if I didnt Id get kicked out...I have caught people before and had security on them AS a cast member (and as a guest because I think it's wrong to do that, [spoiler:se077rmp]i mean there's a reason they pay someone for that...[/spoiler:se077rmp]) lol, so I know that it works... sigh I mean its up to them and everything but I think its silly when, again, its just a Minnie dress its not like Im dressed as Cindy or Alice or someone I look like, as I am not a mouse -end rant- lol.

No its silly to block a dress just cuz it has Minnie on it. I think its fine to block costumes... I just dont think this counts... see its very similar in style to every other dress I wear on a daily basis(I wear Lolita-style) to the parks and they have no problem with them-so I dont think its a costume just because it has Minnie on it that's what I mean.
I also got harrassed by a manager about this. Its a long story but he got very nasty with me and said "Let me ask you a question, WHY did you wear this today" insinuating that I had some sinister plan because I wore a dress with Minnie Mouse on it. Also tried to get me fired :D but thats a story for another day....

But surely if its a dress you bought in the park, it would be allowed?

When I went I bought a Minnie Mouse dress, and they let me in wearing it?!

Ugh! That gets on my nerves! No offense to you! But everywhere we go its "2 children's menus?" and I really hate it! I mean, I don't want to grow up too fast, but don't they think I look a bit old to be sitting in a restaurant with a packet of crayons?

aw I didnt mean it in that way though! Its just that youre allowed because of that. Dont worry-even when I have been working people think Im 12 or 13-I mean seriously would Disney illegally employ underage children? To operate heavy machinery??? People are just dumb dont worry about it :p

I dont mind using crayons! They're great art tools! They blend easily, but its just when you go in a restaurant, like pizza hut last week. I walked in the door and was immediately handed a scooby doo colouring book, and a packet of four crayons...red, green, blue and yellow...

Yes, I LOVE drawing and colouring, but thats just embarrassing!

I give them a sarcastic thanks when they hand me the colouring book and crayons, then leave them on the table, and don't touch them. They usually get a shock when they come back.

I have only ever been asked if I want them in one restaurant. A really fancy one, that, unfortunately, we barely go. Its an italian one, and when I told the waitress no, she said "Great! Its better to ask! If I just give them out, people get offended!"

I've been reading the rest of the posts, since I've been away from the forum for a few days...
I definitely think that you should contact disney about this, let it be DLRP management via e-mail or WDW...
one park can't sell merchandising that's not allowed to be used in the rest of the parks... it's just so stupid!
I mean, your dress has lights and all the million dreams stuff... I guess it wasn't cheap at all... you should contact disney about this issue, come on, you can wear minnie's ears but you can't wear minnie's dress???!? do you look like a mouse in it? NO! ... is it disney quality? YES! isn't that what they're looking for when they look into guests appearance in the parks? YES!
I mean, I've heard of someone trying to enter one of the parks with a sex-reference T-shirt, he wasn't allowed to enter the park and was asked to go back to the hotel to get changed... but i can't see why you can't enter the park with your WDW-merchandise!

ok maybe DLRP is under different management but they should be aware that this world under globalization process is going to bring guests that have re-visited different parks in the whole world (along with their merchandise and souvenirs). they should check what is sold in the rest of the parks and allow people to use it!
i'm wondering what would happen if you buy a costume at DLRP in any non-halloween day and you start wearing it before leaving the park... would they get you out because you're using what you bought? (even if it's for kids and being a grownup you fit in it?)

Ive even seen nasty tshirts and they upset me and theyre allowed in anyways!

You have a great point but I know Disney too well and as I said this man tried to fire me so Im not pushing it. Im still a CM.

Yeah my dress cost 100$, I think it ws a little less with our discount but still! And yes they make you change back into reg clothes supposedly if you change inside the park-only I have SEEN adults wearing full costume in the park and got away with it because they look rediculous!!!

It's actually really unfair but I have to keep my mouth shut because I am a CM-in fact if I wasn't they might be a whole lot nicer about this or even let me in but they are extremely harsh on us about things like this, more than other guests...

And thank you for agreeing that I am not a mouse-that was my argument but they weren't amused. its messed up in my opinion really. AND I paid all that money just so I could wear it TO Disney.

I might try to wear it into Paris anyways tho considering all these points, after all they dont know I wasnt allowed in at MK so it will be a first-time offense there if they deny me.

After all it's really not a costume it is a dress really... IMO... After all if it wasn't made BY Disney they probably would have to let me in since it doesn't actually look like their character. Like for example I wear Lolita-style dresses all the time and they have no problem with it, if it didn't have Minnie's face plastered on it, that's basically what it would be :/

Hm I don´t know how harsh the people at DLRP are but I´ve seen many people wearing everthing you can imagine. So I don´t thing that the problem is such big at DLRP.

I know that WDW is very strict in any cloth questions. A CM told my brother that he must change his shirt cause there was a big sign of FCUK on it (French Connection UK). They had a bigger discussion till another CM told his friend that FCUK is a fashion label and don´t mean the other word that can´t be written in this forum (a bit like voldemort  )

For me it was a bit silly to discussing a shirt label but they seems to be afraid of clothes

1. Crayons are cool, wish Iwas allowed them when i go to pizza hut (my boyfriend tells ne "no its embarassing" lol)

2. Does this mean if I bought a BTM or Jack Skeleton T-shirt I wouldn't be allowed to wear them in the park? What about fairy wings (I've always wanted to do that!)?

I really wish people could wear costumes into the park, it would be so much fun to dress up and have photos taken with the characters and infront of the castle, its not like your walking around with a Mickey Mouse head. (maybe I'll just hide a costume in my bag, they wont notice  :? )

No... Tshirts are OK ...fairy wings probably are too, but it is so strange the way they judge sometimes. They stop Lolitas coming in sometimes too.

And after this... when I went to DLRP I was not stopped going in in my blue-and-white Lolita dress but I was another day in a pink one...whats up with that? I mean blue and white can almost look like Alice in a way but they were comparing me to Alice in my pink and it really pissed me off. I told them I dress like this every day and it's certainly no costume because I bought it in a fancy Paris boutique and it cost like 200 euros. I had no other clothes and it was the last day I was there and I PAID to get into this park so Im coming in, and you're not the fashion police. It was total bull.

AND BTW Not ONCE in my Lolita dresses did ANYONE think I was a character so there.

Is there like an age limmit to how old you have to be before they don't let u wear a costume???
I'm gonna be 15 when I go to Paris next, and I want to get a costume and wear it round that park...
I was thinkin Alice in Wonderland, but i'm also Brunette... so i wouldn't look like Alice, but would I still be allowed to wear it? if not i won't get one...

Thanks if anyone knows!!
I hope there's not too big an age restriction...

Thank You all!!

what about in Janurary when the parks are generally quiet... i want to go into the park for one day in Lolita which is commonly referred to as a 'costume' ¬¬ i have seen videos of other lolita's going into disneyland, and with them having an angelic pretty store (pretty famous in the lolita world for their sweet lolita brand) that they may be a little more clued in on that lolita is a fashon not a costume... and maybe a little more lenient, i wasnt going to do anything too extravigant, anyone think i would be ok wearing it...
i will post a picture of me wearing it when i have it

I saw several girls wearing Lolita in the park this week so obviously they do and have let them in. It's probably totally bad luck if you get the one cast member who doesn't want to admit you.

that could be a good sign for me then =] and im hoping that with us going in janurary that my coat will be able to hide some of it until i get a bit further into the park i plan on hiding in my coat until i want a picture anyway =], and if i dont get let in, i will go change and try again the next day =] (staying in the disneyland hotel so it wouldnt be that big of a deal to go back to the room and change)

DLP are ridiculous when it comes to clothes. About two years ago when me and x_natalie_X from the forum were there security pulled her sister up for wearing a superman T-shirt and blue skinny jeans. They said she looked too much like a character however we managed to argue our case - especially as superman is a man!?

by security do you mean the CM's on the entrance gates, or do you mean the CM's on the bag checks?

Lol Hey Patti !! I was about to write about this incident.. you beat me too it ;)
SwipatronSparks it was the people at the bag checks I think!  Not entirely sure i really cant remember, pats any clue?
They told her she wasnt allowed to wear it.. (bare in mind my sister was about 13 at this point) and my mum had to argue with the CM saying that my sister would wear the tshirt in normal life.. it wasn't a costume!!
After much persuading they let us through but they definitely wernt happy about it !!
I mean c'mon.. a superman tshirt..!!  No ones going to ask her for pictures thinking she is actually superman are they?!  I do understand the rules on dressing up as actual characters because of the whole Disney image.. but sometimes they do go too far!!

anthonysprincess your dress is beautiful and that picture is just lovely :) sorry ive tried to read the whole thread but mainly skimmed through.. you are a CM?  What kind of work do you do?? :)

Costumes in the parks... hmmm... You know the Cosplay-thing?
Fans from japanese animation and manga (comics) sometimes dress up like their favourite characters. Usually they go to conventions to show their costumes, participate in contests and so on.
But they also wear the costumes at other locations.
When I worked in WDW, I often saw cosplayer there. It was nice to talk to them, cause I have been a cosplayer at my own.

So, what I know is (that means especially for WDW): You're not allowed to wear a costume like a princess. Even when you had a wedding there, you can't go in with your wedding dress. If you want to take pictures in your wedding dress, maybe in front of the castle, you have to rent the park, and then you, your groom and your friends and photographers are alone in the park. Which is nice for the pictures, you don't have any guests walking through your foto, but it's very expensive.

In case of DLP: I know some people of the german cosplayfandom, and they often plan to visit DLP in costume. Popular are costumes from Kindgdom Hearts, which is a video game from SquareEnix and Disney. And usually they dress up like the SquareEnix Characters lik Sora (the main character of the game) or someone from the Organsisations 13 (the villians in long dark robes). I never heard something bad that they weren't let in.

Also, the day after the Halloween Soiree 2008, which I attended, I saw guest walking in their costumes through the park.
At the Halloween Soiree is also the rule: If you are costumed like a Disneycharacter, you're not allowed to pose for pictures for guest neither giving autographs.

But anyways, if you plan to visit a Disneypark in costume, I highly recommend to ask them before you enter the park. Write a short e-mail, and if they give you the okay, print out that e-mail. So if any CM at the entrance make any trouble, you can show them the e-mail, and you can also ask for the manager at any time.

At th Halloween Soiree 2008 we did a similar thing. Because my friend to wear a costume from a japanese comic, and we didn't know, if he was allowed to do this. (I mean, it was our first time DLP and first time Halloweeen Soiree). So we wrote a short e-mail (Or did I phone, I don't remember), and they told us th thing with the Disneycharacter and also the rule, that it's not allowed to be to scary or to bloody. Something like a axe in your head could scare the children, and thats not okay.

So, that is all I know to this subject. I hope, it helps a little bit.

Greetings
Chiyo ^^

hey Chio, yeah i know all about cosplay I am a cosplayer and go to conventions and everything so know what your talking about, and yeah, sending Disney an email sounds like a good idea, but I'm a little reluctant to do that purely because i want to go into the park in Lolita and that's not a costume its a fashion, sending them an email about wanting to go into the park in Lolita would be for me accepting the common misconception that its a costume, but depending on what responses are like on here around the time I go I might send them one just to be on the safe side =] thanks for the advice though was def a good idea for anyone who wants to go into the park in costume =]

on another note I have my dress now, its a different one to the one I think I mentioned that I was getting, and I don't know how I could be confused for a character, I am on the bus home from London at the mo so will post some pictures of the dress some time tomorrow hopefully, then will post some of me wearing it when I get the accessories and other things either made or bought that i would be wearing with it =]

Quote from: "anthonysprincess"You have a great point but I know Disney too well and as I said this man tried to fire me so Im not pushing it. Im still a CM.

After being a cm for nealy 14 years, I have learned the drawbacks too.  Sometimes u have to grin and bear it.

Thank you, i am pleased with it :D Although the jacket took ages! Had to cut away panels at the front and then paint on all the swirls! I think Dylan got fed up with me keep using the hair dryer each time i painted one so that it dried quicker

this is something that i always end up wondering when reading halloween threads.... if you go to the party do you have to be dressed as a disney character... i know its disney and its kinda a given that most people will be in disney costume... but do people go dressed as other things??? just curious thats all XD
