Title: Mary Poppins & Sleeping Beauty character events
Post by: zanderstarz on March 16, 2008, 07:44:25 PM
As of the the 3rd of April from 11:30am everyday a new 'happening' will begin at Town Square.
The Good Morning Mary Poppins show will contain 3 girl dancers and 3 boy dancers, 4 penguins and of course Mary and Bert. Not quite sure whats gonna happen, but rehearsals will soon be underway and more information will be posted here soon.

On top of all that, there is going to be another 'happening' at the Merlin Stage behind Sleeping Beauty castle. This show will be hosted by Aurora and Prince Phillip and possibly Maleficent. No rehearsals are scheduled yet, but this is due to start on the 3rd of April. More info to come...

Wow, that's really great news - thank you so much, zanderstarz :)!

Although I'm not sure these happenings will also take place during the Christmas Season?! :( Especially I'd love to see the Aurora happening...

Interesting idea, hope they do make them good, nice to see the good old 90's are influencing names again  .  The Mary Poppins idea seems to remind me of the old Good Morning Main Street where there were dancers, Mickey, Minnie, etc dancing to old dixie music. :)

Also the Sleeping Beauty one reminds me of the Grand Opening ceremony when Sleeping Beauty was woken up by Prince Phillip as the opening of Fantasyland.

Sounds interesting, clearly DLRP are expecting big crowds to be turning up over the Summer to be putting on addtional entertainment like this. Still its good to see DLP get some entertainment offerings for a change rather than seeing it all go to the WDS.

Yes indeed! I loved Good Morning Main Street so much and to have some little shows/parades like that will push the spirit of Disneyland Park forward!

Just a little update...

The Good Morning Mary Poppins show will begin as of the 5th April at the Gazebo in Town Square. It runs every hour from 11:30am until 2pm. There are 3 penguins and 3 dancer couples. Playback and singing is from various sources but nothing new sadly...most of it coming from the Disney Cinema Parade - no surprises there!

The Aurora and Prince Phillip Happening (still no official name yet) begins on the 26th April at the Excalibur stage behind Sleeping Beauty Castle, running every hour from 11:30am until 2pm. It will possibly feature guard-like dancers and maidens. Malificent might even make an appearance. More news to come, watch this space!

Your always full of information Zanderstarz. I believe Maleficent will appear atop the castle balcony and try to ruin the ceremony, or that is the current plan.

I'll try to post a video of Mary Poppins before the weekend. It's a fun show, nothing spectacular but certainly a very very welcome addition to Main Street. The whole thing, with the classic cars and Victorian dancers, reminded me a lot of the kind of things you always see on old EuroDisney promotional videos, or the Euro Disneyland Sing-a-long Songs video. For those who have long wanted that kind of streetmosphere to return, it'll be a wonderful thing.

At the end of the show the characters meet and greet guests (hence it being in the meet 'n' greet section of the programme), whilst the Victorian dancers go for a stroll around the street. The story of the show is basically Mary Poppins taking us to the park, and it all coming to life in a very "How does she know" Enchanted musical kind of way...

It doesn't seem to have a proper name though, just "Mary Poppins" on the Programme. :?

Just another update...

The Mary Poppins show is schedualed to be an ongoing event throught the year with more scenes to be added later depending on the popularity of the show.

The Aurora & Prince Phillip Happening will start as of the 8th May. The confirmed cast will include 3 Lords and 3 Ladies, Malificent, Aurora and Phillip. More interestingly it appears that the three fairies (Flora, Fauna and Merryweather) might also be involved, but this is not confirmed. Rehearsals are due to start next week. More info to follow...

Thank you for that update! Is always great to hear something new from the entertainment department!

Do you now which additional sequences are planned and when they make the decision about that?

The Aurora show seems bigger then I expected!
Title: Re: Good Morning Mary Poppins & The Aurora and Phillip Happening
Post by: Anthony on April 12, 2008, 07:20:41 PM
Thanks again zanderstarz! I hope if the three fairies are involved in the Aurora show (and I really hope they are), that they can manage to cast them as face characters and not use the plastic faces of Fantillusion... We'll see.

Anyway, here's the video of 'Mary Poppins' (//http://www.dlrpmagic.com/video/entertainment/mary-poppins/)!

If you want to see it, stand exactly where I was standing there (either side) for the best view. Don't stand exactly facing the gazebo or you'll be too far away once the cars pull in.

Thanks for the video Baloo! Its great to see them using the Mary Poppins track from the Wonderful World of Disney Parade when the gang enters Main Street. The show fits Main Street very well and its a welcome addition in my opinion.

By the way, as a Dutchman I just had to notice... hopefully Bert's bycicle looks like an old one to fit the theme.  :P

Hopefully some more characters will make an appearance on Main Street soon. I remember seeing the Mayor in the Magic Kingdom in Orlando.

Yeah I think it's an old one.. doesn't have suspension or modern gears at least. Hehe.  I do remember that it has some colourful ribbons tied around the wheel spokes, and maybe something in the basket like flowers... remember thinking "nice details!" at the time.

The meet 'n' greet time at the end of the show is also a great chance to get some good MS Vehicles shots:

Just another update...

The Aurora happening has been renamed 'Once Upon A Time with Sleeping Beauty'. Rehearsals have finally started, there is plenty of playback but its mainly a narrator voice over which is poorly translated. Phillip and Aurora both speak, yay! The costumes worn by the Lords and Ladies are gold and cream. Sadly Aurora and Phillip are in their standard park costumes. The Excalibur stage is undergoing a refurb at the moment to accommodate the show. Backstage apparently set is being constructed (but it cant be much considering how small the stage is). 2 new songs are being added to the show as well as 'Once Upon A Dream'. Unlike the Mary Poppins show reusing playback from DCP and DOUD, it appears Disneyland Paris have recorded new material. The large chunks of narration in both French and English are a bit irritating at times but it tells a nice story which will interest children whilst the dancers provide a good spectacle for the older guests. This show will certainly look good in its location and will be a welcome improvement to the park. Sadly (as I expected) Maleficent and the 3 Fairies have been cut. Originally in the draft script Flora, Fauna and Merewether opened and closed the show using Fantillusion playback, and Maleficent interrupted the court ball but was defeated by Prince Phillip. I'm glad they cut this considering in the film Aurora never actually meets Maleficent and it would look odd. But I did like the idea of including the 3 Fairies, ah well, there is always time to develop the show further. Like I said before, even 'Step In Time with Mary Poppins' will eventually be extended.

We need to start a petition to get the 3 fairys and Maleficent in the show. What a waste of money all those recent pyro tests for them were.

But still the show sounds good for a little extra entertainment, as long as people don't expect a Grand Spectacular - it should go down well.

I agree! The tests looked impressive, with the matching colours for each fairy and the purple smoke for Maleficent's entrance and the ring of fire for her defeat. Maybe its for a future show, or maybe the technitions got a bit bored and wanted to use up the spare shells from St Patricks day, lol. I still dont understand why they would conduct tests on that stage if they werent planning on using pyros in the show. Maybe they thought they wouldnt be effective during the day? Which reminds me, Wishes tests starts soon dont they Poppy?

Indeed they do, I think within the next couple of weeks. But with these rumours of "Enchanted" replacing wishes - I wonder what will be in store this summer??  I've not heard any rumours backstage, expect that Wishes is coming back?? But who knows, all will be revealed?

But back on topic,  We were in awe at those effects, the ring of fire was so amazing - with flames shooting skywards circling the entire stage. Maybe the techinal teams decided it was too dangerous, considering guests sit on the stone walls where the flames were to be shot from??

Let us hope that the coloured smoke does make an appearence though, even though I'm still trying to get that purple dye out of my white Celio T-Shirt!!

Thanks for the info Poppy. It's a bit of a shame about Stitch really, I think he's better off in the Studios, whereas a Buzz Lightyear one would have been better, because he has his own ride there. Lets just see what happens though. The Pirate one should be a really good one though, I've got high expectations for it :)

Dear god no!!!!  That show was sooo bad.  And the music was just (typical DLRP) a collection of DCP and Tink's Fireworks.

Expect to see Jack Sparrow take over Captain Hook's Galley (and maybe even other POTC characters?)

But this [strike:uebx8pf2]shouldn't[/strike:uebx8pf2] won't happen before the launch of the new "year".

When we were there last month, Mary and Bert stopped over near City Hall to sign, and there were penguins and the other cast characters stationed all over the bandstand area.

They were out and about to sign for quite some time.

Hi,

I don't know why the Sleeping Beauty show is under meet and greet. Maybe this just happened when I was there but when it was over, Aurora and Prince Philp went into a small area near Aurberge De Cendrillon, took photos with 2 children and then were about to leave only a little girl who had cancer/lukiemia arrived and they stopped for her before leaving and saying "see you at the parade" it was no longer than a 3 minute meet and greet, quite disappointing for many of us standing there hoping to also meet them. However I thought the show was very good....but if that's what they classify as a meet and greet I don't think so somehow!

That's because the cast do The Sleeping Beauty Show, Once upon a dream parade (DOUD) and Fantillusion in their shift, they can only fit one show into the tight schedule.

Meanwhile the Mary Poppins cast do 3 shows and DOUD during their day.

Meet for Mary Poppins cast

When we were there on Thursday - the cast spread them selves around.

Penguins - stayed around the bandstand.

Mary and Bert- walked aound the square and stopped under the middle arch of the station (as did one couple of the dancers) : it was hot and looked like it could rain - so sheltered.

The other dancers walked around the square and went into the area in front of the station near the hotel and stopped meet and greet people.

:D Enjoyed this show - not a lot of people were around at the time (last show of the day) and got a good spot to see and get pictures - more arrived when music started. Missed one picture  :( of one of the penguins 'taking a drink' from the drinking fountains - but having fun with the kids around. :D :D

Thanks for the information and the lovely photo!:) I seen this show last week I thought it was really nice and I managed to video it and get a photo with Mary and Bert who stood under the entrance to the City Hall.

I wish the meet and greet after the Sleeping beauty show was as good, when I was there it didn't qualify as a meet and greet to be honest, as i have said in an earlier post, however it was also a very good show:)

Hmmm odd...they probably had their reasons. Usually its a 10min 'happening' and a 20min Meet & Greet where Phillip and Aurora stand on the stage facing the castle with a queue leading up to them for photos/autographs while the Lords and Ladys walk around the courtyard.

Does anyone know if the show will be running during Christmas Season?

I doubt it. Sleeping Beauty has finished and Mary Poppins is probably only till the end of September.

That sounds soooo great, now it only must run anytime between 30th Nov and 2nd Dec  [-o<!!!
I'm still afraid it could run like Minnie's Jolly Holiday Show which I will miss as it will only run on weekends at the beginning of December :(!

Yes, check the flyers as soon as you get to your hotel/the parks. If Sleeping Beauty show is coming back for Christmas, I'd assume it would certainly be from 1st December throughout that month.
