Title: The Legend Of The Lion King - Ends Jan 4th
Post by: Anthony on April 15, 2005, 11:31:08 PM
This is the general topic for everything about the show, which has now been announced to end (likely for good, although we're not entirely sure) on 4th January 2009.

Original post:

What is your favourite "Legend of the Lion King" moment?

I've just watched both the Photos Magiques and my own videos of The Legend of the Lion King all the way through, and after seeing the show in person once and probably over 50 times in video form, I'm still totally in love.  It's just simply the second best thing to ever happen to Disneyland Park (after Space Mountain   ), and has so many little details and hidden touches that make the repeat value unlimited.  From the little jokes by each of the lead singers that have gradually crept in as they've got used to their roles, to the funny little acting moments from the dancers, to just about every single second of the 30minute masterpiece!  :D

So what's your favourite part of the show?  Perhaps the booming "IT IS TIME" announcement and when the logo appears on the water curtain?  Or maybe the ending when the cast line up and strike a pose with their arms in the air as the audience never fails to give them a huge round of applause?

SM:M2 might be 2005's big new thing, but 2004's still lives on and keeps getting better!  :D

BTW, surprisingly I haven't been paid to say any of this - I really do think the show is that amazing!

Well, I don't have a favourite part in the whole show, I just like the whole thing.

But my best memory, is the one of the AP premiere.  Imagine Videopolis crowded with thousands of fans like Baloo ( ), it's very very overwhelming and heartwarming.

I did like the show too. The show itself is beautifull, the way the actors perform is, for what i know of musicals, good and the lightshow is outstanding, but the minor thing i didn't like is the fact it kept on going and going and going. And i did not even see the whole show, as i rushed in 10 minutes late.  #-o

But leaving the durance of the show out of my judgement, then i must say: Yes, they did a great job on performing this show. And i might go see it an other time when i am not leaving the parc within the hour and when i have total attention for the show. Maybe i wont dislike the durance of the show then  :)

By the way, respect for the lead singer i have seen at the end of the show the 13th of April, i liked her performance!  :D/

The best part is the Medley Celebration, that's THE moment when the cast shows their skills, when they performs at their max! The remix of the songs are great and that's the part of the show which ends it, but in a very Broadway elegant and taking way, tat's a big cause of why i love the show so much!

The 'Love scene'. Can you feel the love tonight is such a nice song in my opninion. And then all the 'stars in the sky on the scene. Just so marvellous. And if those 2 lovebirds fly around .... So emotional ;-)

I don't really have favourite part of the show. But indeed i have to say that i like that scene too, with all the little lights. But also the fighting scene is great, i have to say i like the whole show. The decor is so great, it amazes me that they can do so much with lights and things that it looks different everytime. A great show! Very well done!

Quote from: "Jorien"But also the fighting scene is great

Yeah!  The Simba/Scar fight is just incredible.  So well choreographed and the slow-mo effect is just unbeliebeable.  If someone told you they did part of the fight in slow-mo then you'd imagine it to look really cheap and rubbish, but the actual effect is brilliant.  Just a subtle lighting change and some excellent movements from the actors and it looks so believeable.

I also love the way Scar parts the water curtain at the start of that scene, and the Faux-Fire effects are amazing aswell.  It's also enhanced a lot if they have some dancers flying around behind the water curtain aswell.  There's just so much going on in that scene, and with the excellent new version of Be Prepared it really does make the show - though the Final Celebration is great aswell.  As Kinou said, it lets all the performers really show off their voices, and the reaction from the crowd is always brilliant.

Quote from: "Jorien"The decor is so great, it amazes me that they can do so much with lights and things that it looks different everytime. A great show!

Again, yes!!  The lighting is just breathtaking for a theme park show.  I think it perhaps even surpasses the London show.  Not just the way they manage to change the setting with a few projections and lighting changes, but also things like the singers having their own spotlights really take it above the normal Disney show level.  Of course, the fibre optics are great aswell, always seeming to make the audience go "woooooaaahhh!" at the start.

I also love things like how they have waterfall effects on the screens during the opening, and fire during the fight.  And projections of jungle plants above Pumbaa's hole for Hakuna Matata.

And of course I can't forget the feathers flying out when Zazu flies in...  :D

I'm guessing you've all got the point that I like this show a lot now, so I'll end this post there!

:) My favourite part of the show is actually the extras...I love how, depending on what animal they are, they dance differently. Eg, the antelopes were jumping around gracefully like ballerinas, and the rhino and the boar were charging and stomping like rugby players! :P

I'd just like to say congratulations to "The Legend Of The Lion King", which is celebrating its first anniversary today!  :D

Thanks to all the cast and crew and everyone who has worked on the show for an amazing year of magic - without doubt the best in the resort's history in terms of park entertainment!

Similar to the new SM:M2 event, there's now an organised Legend of the Lion King event which businesses can book.  It includes a special exclusive performance of the show plus an African-themed event/meal in one of the convention halls afterwards...

There's also a video for it with lots of cool show footage!

'The Legend of the Lion King' was our favourite show (along with 'Tarzan') when we visited DLP last month.
I didn't realise we had to queue for tickets until we tried to get in to watch the show! Nevertheless well worth the 45 minute wait in the blazing sun for the 4:15pm show - just wish we could have found the time to see it again!

My favourite has to be the finale as well. I love it how Rafiki ad-libs each time I see it. My July trip must have had the most hyperactive Rafiki ever as she was swaying all over the place, going "wooooooooooo!" all the time and her expression was a picture. She loved being on stage and gave 110% for sure. Shame the old actress was a better singer

The pace of the finale is insaine too and I love it how each performer is so "in character" all the time! Even their pushing, shoving and playful hitting is cute and fun  :D

Have you got or can you find a photo of the Rafiki(s) you've seen?

I saw this Rafiki at Christmas:

(//http://www.photosmagiques.com/shows/legend/can_you_feel_reprise6_small.jpg) (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/shows/legend/can_you_feel_reprise6.jpg)

She's incredible.  Such an amazing singer, and like you said about the one you saw, she gave it 110% and much more.  Simba and Nala had to practically push her off stage at the end because she was still jumping up and down!   Does anyone know her name by any chance?

I saw most of the show in July, and the cast wasn't nearly as good.  Simba wasn't singing quite right and Rafiki wasn't as good as the other one.

I thought she was Hope... she was in the West End production of "Ragtime" before she did LOTLK.  I'm still surprised to this day how they managed to get all those singers with such impressive CVs (like Roger Wright, Gino Emnes, etc.) ...and then of course find more new singers of their own who are equally as talented.  :D

(a) What time should I go for tickets if I am interested in the show which starts at 14:30?
(b) If i do not find tickets, can I take tickets for the next show or I have to wait in line again?
(c) How long should I wait in line if I am there on Christmas Day?

Could anyone confirm that tickets are no longer needed to see TLOTLK? :) I read this a few days ago on DCP, sounds like the new attractions and other entertainment have finally lowered the crowds.

When I was there the 1st till 6th of July tickets were still needed to see the show... dunno what happened after that date...

They hand out tickets at 11 am if I remember correctly. Get there about 10 minutes early, the queue is around the back of Le Visionarium, to the side of Star Tours (Behind the queuing area where the sail barge style sails are to the back of the X-Wing).
Title:
Post by: Anthony on July 22, 2007, 04:01:39 PM
But I think, if the members of DCP are correct, tickets are no longer needed as of 14th July! You just show up about 20 mins in advance like every other show.

Can raptor1982 or anyone confirm? :)
Title:
Post by: Anonymous on July 22, 2007, 07:30:41 PM
Mixed feelings - in some ways it's a good thing because you're not messing around queuing for tickets, but it could be a bad thing because you might not be guaranteed getting into the show if you turn up just before it's due to start. I hate the way they herd you into queues on some attractions and leave you standing for 20 minutes or so. DLRP is bad enough on the feet, without being left standing for 20 minutes to half an hour. Last March, I picked up my ticket and then just went back 5 minutes before the show was due to start. It might not be an issue if the crowds are not as big, but it concerns me a little bit.

well July 11th we needed tickets and I got 5 of the last 7 for the 2.30pm. Previous trip a couple of years earlier we got to q for the show and a CM came to a point before us and advised all to stop quing as no chance of getting in. FOlks were quing 60min before show. No tickets will surely see a return to that?

PS - while enjoyed finally seeing legend of lion king, personally think Tarzan is better, and the kids thought Winnie the Pooh was the best (also first time we have been able to see that).

What's going on with The Legend Of The Lion King on the official website's calendar? Is it not being performed much this month, or have the monkeys (or maybe mice, is that more logical?) who run the website just forgotten to list it for lots of days?

http://news.disneylandparis.co.uk/calen ... &year=2007 (http://news.disneylandparis.co.uk/calendar/calendar.xhtml?day=1&month=9&year=2007)

Either way, it makes things annoying for a poor fansite owner. :x

This was excellent the other week when I saw it. It was on the day I got the VIP tour. I was allowed to go in and sit down before anyone else, was taken to reserved seating which was right in the centre of the arena / audience, and which didn't get very crowded and fill up at all.

Then at the end of the show, Simba came around and shook hands with everyone in the reserved seating area. You were really made to feel like a celebrity / special guest.

Hi everybody,

I have a short video sequence from the medley of the lion king show from  June this year. I´m searching the name of the actor who has played Scar. I like Musicals and with his name i can search if he has played in other Productions out of Disneyland. Here is the Link, i hope it is allowed: http://rapidshare.com/files/68942495/scar.wmv (http://rapidshare.com/files/68942495/scar.wmv)

Yes, it's gone.

Also interesting to note that most weeks the show isn't presented on Mondays and Tuesdays any more. Don't blame them really, it must be so expensive.

Still a fantastic show more than 3 years on. Always think about it when I see that grumpy Craig Revel Horwood on TV...

Hi All,

I note that "MR ENTERTAINMENT" over on the forum at DLP.INFO ( See -> http://forum.mousekingdom.com/dcboard.p ... 2334&page= (http://forum.mousekingdom.com/dcboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=3&topic_id=82334&mesg_id=82334&page=%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;) ) is saying that due to budget cuts the Lion King show will cease by the end of September.

Anyone know anythng more / confirm or deny this?.

Thanks

This seems a little far fetched, I just hope it's not true, as he also states that cine folies will be gone, surely not :? , after dlrp having such a good year, and bringing in these little streetmosphere shows on main street and fantasyland they surely can't get rid of two of their best bits of entertainment.

At the risk of upsetting anybody:

I am not questioning MR ENTERTAINMENT's integrity, however in the past his "source" has proved inaccurate.

Sometimes ex cast members cannot let go of the magic and try to stay "in the loop" with rather sad results.

I will wait and see more accurate info from current cast members.

Sits back and waits for the usual rebuff from MR ENTERTAINMENT

Grandmath speaks out about this news on Disney Central Plaza.  He says the show will become a seasonal offering (like Tarzan) but that won't happen before next year!  It will however be compensated by the large amount of shows during Mickey's celebration year.

I won't be too upset if they stop it, to be honest... It's been going on for too long. It's OK, but I prefered it when they changed their shows a bit more regularly. I remember a Beauty and the Best one that was really good, and the Mulan one with the chinese acrobats was brilliant.

For me, it's time to have a new, different show!

I've said this before, Videopolis is not a theatre location!  It's a fast food restaurant.  Small entertaining shows like Mickey's Showtime belong there.

They should build a big theatre somewhere in Fantasyland for shows like Legend of the Lion King.  Those actors shouldn't perform in the smell of hamburgers & fries...

You are so right, raptor!
I often thought: What a shame.
A show of this high-quality. With high-quality performers. And high-quality effects...
And people sit there, eat their burgers, talk, laugh...
One should pay more attention and respect to the actors

I was thinking, why not give local (or European) bands a change to play on the stage.  A bit like the Magic Music Days but more in the style of the Tomorrowland Terrace at Disneyland California.

Nice idea.

And at the same time, perhaps remove the theatre seating and put more tables down there, if the ground can be levelled out. Then they could even use it as a location for dinner shows and things like that Mickey's Christmas meal which is being held in the Pavillion behind the park this year.

Another factor that might make LOTLK a bit less popular with the execs paying to keep it a year-round fixture could be the actual Lion King musical that has now opened in Paris. I don't know what happened there backstage at Disney that a "rival" show for some reason opened up just 30 minutes away within a few years of LOTLK opening. It seems like bad planning.

I'll say it for the millionth time now -- the Animagique theatre is perfect for shows like this! It'd raise the profile of WDS yet again, and then 1,100 people can see it properly, not 400. If they don't want to continue with The Lion King, buy up DCA's Aladdin.

Anyway, I really hope the show doesn't go dark this Winter. That's the one time when you're really glad of Videopolis having a great show in the warm indoors.

According to Mr. Entertainment at DLP.info Boards:

QuoteHaving spoken to my contact in Paris this evening, I can confirm the following:

1.The Cinéfolies Cast are currently in rehearsals for Art Of Animation.(Much to their disgust too....)
2.Cinéfolies will cease to exist as of the 30th September, with the exception of Special Events.
3.Conecerning Tarzan and The Legend Of The Lion King, Tarzan will become a seasonal show for the summer season only, and TLOTLK will be the Winter seasonal show.
4.Outside of these official seasonal dates, both stages will be closed for refurbishment.
5.The "Cinéfolies" actors and actresses moved to AOA will be used to present the Lilo & Stich show, which will be an annual summer show, due to the popularity rating of 98%.
6.Lilo & Stitch's budget will be increased. By how much, is not known.
7.The reason for this cut, as explained by my source is linked to Guest Satisfaction comments which were exceptionally low, following the promotion of Miss LouLou, and Alexandra to Management positions, and the introduction of CDD(short term seasonal)/Agency actors in the roles of the Cinéfolies actors.

Please remember that this is of course subject to change, but is the "up to date" situation, as of today.

So what do you think? It seems The Legend of the Lion King will be the main show during the wintermonths, while The Tarzan Encounter will be featured in the summermonths. No word however about Mickey's Winter Wonderland.

By the way, I think its a shame that the Cinefolies are forced to do a Stitch show at Art of Disney Animation. To be really honest, I'm getting a Stitch overkill at the moment, considering he is rumoured to get a show at Disoveryland aswell.

Quote from: "Baloo"I'll say it for the millionth time now -- the Animagique theatre is perfect for shows like this! It'd raise the profile of WDS yet again, and then 1,100 people can see it properly, not 400. If they don't want to continue with The Lion King, buy up DCA's Aladdin.

I have to agree.  When we went to see the lion king show on Wednesday we were there an hour before it started and within 20 minutes or so they were turning people away because the que was already full.  The lion king is a very popular atraction (and a fantastic show too) its just a shame more people dont get to see it.  I would have been disappointed if I had gone there for just one day and not been able to get in to see the show so i can imagine how a lot of the people felt who were being turned away.

I really hope that they keep things the way they are now  :(
The chaparral and videopolis theaters should be open during winter and
summer seasons in my opinion.
Tarzan and TLOTLK during the summer season, and Mickey's winter wonderland and maybe a
cute little Cinderella show during the winter season  :D
ok, back to reality  :P i have a feeling that videopolis theater would never be closed
during the summer season, whenever i go there during summer it's always full.

I'm really sad to read that! In the past I always connected a Disney parc with fantastic attractions as well as a fantastic parade and show offers! When they changed the castle stage to a photo location it already bothered me cause me and my family used to love to sit in summer outside to watch a great show like " le livre magique de Mickey". Just pure Disney magic!! But then we were really happy to have a very high standard musical like "the legend of the lion king". "Tarzan" is nice too, but I think it's running now for too long... Whatever.
To have just one show running would be such a waste of the possibility to fulfill the Disney magic by putting it in singing and dance on stage!!! Most of the Disney movies are indeed musicals.
There are so many Disney Musical running all over the world, why not a smaller version in the parcs, or something similar???!!! I hope they won't cancel "Mickey's winter wonderland" too!!
The more I think about it the more angry I get!! I'm sorry, I really hoped that by next yeatrthey gonna create new shows like it was in the 90s...Fingers crossed...

According to the super time-travelling computer (aka DLRP intranet) of DCP's La Rouquine, The Legend Of The Lion King is currently scheduled to end on Sunday, 4th January 2009. :(

Is that it, forever? Could it be back? Will the stage be left? No idea.

I'm gonna miss it :(

I took advantage of it and finally filmed it, and with our last visit, we saw the show twice, haha.

But due to budget costs, any other [good] show will cost alot too I guess, so I think that's a little strange.

Oh no, really?? No chance according to what Maarten posted above, that The Lion King Show will be a winter season show? :(

I guess then I have to watch it in December, could be the last time :(!

Am I the only one who's glad to see the end of this?

It's been going on for way too long! The show is OK, nice effects , great music and all, but I never thought it was one of their best...

I really enjoy going to see the shows in the park, and I want to see something different!

Sorry if this has already been posted, but do we know what will replace it? Is that Stitch DJ thing? Dance Time, was it? Or will it be something else? Or will there be no show at all   during the summer?

This is the date currently posted on the internal schedule provided to Cast Members at the resort.

But as I said above, I'm not sure if that's it forever. It would certainly seem like it.

How is guest satisfaction when it comes to the Legend of the Lion King? I assume many people who have seen the show will rate it highly, but on the other hand thousands of people per day who don't have the chance to see the show (unless they queue for it an awfully long time) will drop the overal ratings. Or am I wrong on this one? I actually have no idea what the overall rating is. Thank god Armageddon still manages to survive...

does anyone know what will be replacing LOTLK?  We love this show and are very sad that it won't be there when we visit in april.

There's no replacement scheduled at the moment.  It's rumoured that the show will return seasonally like Tarzan La Rencontre.  :)

I still can't see why they'd want to make in seasonal, it's still a great show that still draws in loads of crowds. I suppose it's all a cost-cutting thing, not having to employ people to do the show all of the time, but still...

I think the most obvious choice will be another Disney-inspired musical.

Currently High School Musical is only a summer attraction - maybe it'll get a permanent home in Videopolis?

Oh God no!

I'd much rather they keep TLOTLK as a seasonal show for a few more years before they replace it with something else. But please keep HSM in the Studios, it fits well there, the Studios need that kind of Summer show, and I really don't want to see it at Videopolis

Yes, the African Tam-Tam group (who normally perform near Restaurant Hakuna Matata in Adventureland) are now performing in Videopolis Theatre Weds-Sun over the Winter months.

No they haven't everything is still the same.  l saw the show yesterday, it wasn't bad they really do their best, but it's obviously a set back from LotLK .... they also invite people from the audience on the stage at the end of the show, so be prepared if  you sit in the front, you might get picked out.

But l heard some really exciting news from one of the players, he said that the Lion King will return in May, if all goes well.  Till then, they will continue to play in videopolis with the show they have now. The billboards outside aren't gone either, the ones on top of the building but stupid me forgot to take a picture of it! sowwee... l do have pics of the show though, so when they're uploaded I'll post them here

It would be great if does come back. It's really good show and the sort of thing DLRP does really well.

Any more news anyone?

To be honest I'd place my bets on it never returning. The stage is still all in place (after all, they completely custom rebuilt it in 2004 specifically for the show, there's no base stage beneath there), but they took down the billboards outside and the lettering on the marquee. "Cinéma Mickey" even has posters outside and its own notice on the Discoveryland information board.

Strangely, I was just coming here to moan about something that annoyed me last visit - since the stage isn't in use any more, couldn't they also remove the extra black blackout covers they put on all of Videopolis' windows when Lion King opened? It's so dark in there. You should be seeing a great view out across Discoveryland, but you can barely see your food. Maybe that's the point.

It's a shame to hear that. I can understand with Tarzan, because it'd been around for about ten years, but this hasn't been around for that long. But all good things must come to an end

Anyone want to be that we'll see Toy Story the Musical in Videopolis next year, tying in with Toy Story Playland and some kind of Toy Story/Pixar celebration theme year?  :P
