Is there always a fireworks display? Because in Feb of this year, I'm sure there wasnt!

Wishes is only performed during the summer season.  On certain occassions (like St-Patricks Day, Halloween Soiree etc.) there's a special fireworks performance.

Hopefully theres a little something extra thrown in! :) extra finale or something, that would be cool!

Did anyone else notice that last year there were far more fireworks added into wishes that the first year it ran at paris? If you compare videos from both years, its quite obvious that lack of fireworks in the opening year. Maybe they'll add even more this year? guess we'll have to wait and see!

Yes I 've seen images from 05 and 06 and there are big differences. Hope they add more effects this year. And a greater finale than last year.

Since the projections (probably) won't be coming from the hub anymore, that's where I'd like to see some improvement.  One particular thing from the 15th launch was very very cool - a moving video projection of the red carpet wrapping itself around the Castle.  If they could redo the projections of Wishes to be that quality, then wow.  At the moment they sometimes look a little bit too much like Powerpoint presentations (mainly Jiminy floating down  ).

Since Candleabration is at 23.00 and Wishes at 23.15, the two will be practically joined anyway, so regular guests will see it as a 15th Anniversary display.

i think the projections are still coming from the hub, there is doors on the stage so the projections will come from that.. i seen it last year what a great show... hope they can improve the projections so it will make it even better...

2 weeks tomorrow until i can judge for myself.. cant wait..

It's interesting this new press release (//http://www.disneyparkspress.com/disneyland15/english/After-darkshows.pdf) mentions "video projection" constantly, don't you think?  I wouldn't say that the show of the past 2 years could be called "video projection" unless they're being very generous. They've never said Wishes has video projections before...

Maybe a change, then? Let's not get too hopeful, but hey - seeing what 2007 has brought already, anything is possible these days.

'Wishes' video projection and fireworks Nightly

The power of a wish combines with magical moments from cherished Disney films and dazzling pyrotechnic effects to create "Wishes," the biggest, boldest fireworks show ever presented for Disneyland Park guests.

Narrated by the Blue Fairy and Jiminy Cricket, who memorably served as Pinocchio's conscience in Disney's animated masterpiece, the 8-minute story-in-the-sky spectacular tells a thrilling, heart-tugging tale about making a wish come true. Will Pinocchio become a little boy and Cinderella find her true love?

With video projections and fireworks, "Wishes" takes guests through treasured tales of adventure and romance from classic Disney films, accompanied by brilliant bursts of colour and light above, and around, Sleeping Beauty Castle. The show ends every evening in the Disneyland Park from 15th July to 26th Aug.

Maybe they took out the lasers from the castle because of the dwarfs statues. Maybe we will have only the videos and not the lasers coming from the castle

The laserbox is already present since they installed the dwarfs!

I don't think they're gonna make many changes to wishes, although a few would be nice - especially with it being their 15th Anniversary Celebrations.

Unfortunatley, I won't see wishes this year    but I'm hoping it will return next year, as I'm planning on a nice relaxing summer disney/france break.

I don't think there will be any major changes, but then again, a couple of years ago there was a special Legend of the Lion King tie-in during Tink's Fantasy in the Sky... So who knows!  (I'll let you guys know when I'm back on Sunday... )

It was all the same :)  Nothing changed, but I must say that the combo of Fantillusion, Candleabration AND wishes really adds an incredible finale to your day...  If all days were to end with such a magical feeling, we would no longer live, but be in heaven :)

why did disney decide to cut fireworks from everyday to just the summer and special celebrations

I don't think they ever did it whole year in Paris, or am I mistaking?  Now you mad me doubt :o)

Either way - the reason is very simple really - fireworks cost a LOT of money and with Eurodisney not in a too good situation (might this year finally change that balance?), it was just a finance-based decision :)

Plus you have to remember that the surrounding areas and people living there don't really like to hear the big fireworks every night...  That's why Disney is only allowed to fire off the really big ones on a limited number of days through the year (and that is why Wishes doesn't really have the big ones either ;) )
Title:
Post by: Kristof on July 31, 2007, 12:17:07 PM
In fact, there has been a lawsuit, not long after the park opened.  Since then all "big" fireworks at Disneyland Park are strictly forbidden, unless they get a special permit for it for selected days, like Speedpacket said.  That includes Bastille Day, New Years Eve, etc.

But did you know that the lawsuit does not cover other parts of the Resort?  For example, Bonfire on Lake Disney can use bigger fireworks, because it's not as close to the residential areas, unlike Fantasyland is.
Title:
Post by: coruscantpt on July 31, 2007, 12:37:23 PM
Yes, that's right. When i went in 1994 the summer fireworks were not in fantasyland but in Lake Disney using the big fireworks.

That is quite pitty, this means that even Disneyland Paris could have more money in the future, they will never can do such a great fireworks and never compete to those in disney world,... and to the resort. But why did they build the fantasyland near the village?? They had to knew it.
On the other hand, there live people very near disneyland in california, and there they dont have problems with the big firewprks at all.

I see wdw just try to rely on big fireworks to wow crowds, whereas dlp does not do fireworks so big anyway.  Wishes in dlp actually seems like a perfect ending to a day, and if dlp had a lot of money in the future I would assume they would use it to build more attractions and shows than fireworks so much.  The villages also around the resort were mostly built after the resort opened, meaning they may have not built fantasyland anywhere near a village, but was made a village after dlp opened.  As for DLR well the people around there are not too happy themselves with the local high flying fireworks.  Personally to me I don't care for fireworks so much every visit, there is so much more to do in dlrp than see fireworks.

I'll look for that article I've once posted here on the magicforum about the people who live behind Disneyland California.  It wasn't positive at all.

And don't forget they didn't live there when the park opened. The whole of the city around Disneyland seems to be because of Disneyland, so the resort has much more power than DLRP has.

Since I come from California, I find the paultry fireworks display and lack of them a real let down at DLP.  For most of you who only really know DLP, not a prob.  But for me, it was always a key highlight for a visit to DL.  In 1992, the fireworks at DLP were on par with the rest of the parks around the globe.  But now?  Well instead of DLP getting all of our Disney money, they only get a 3rd.  We go to California or WDW to get our pyro fix.

Sadly, as much as I love DLP, I really struggle with it.  The Disney difference has always been around live entertainment (thankfully better this year), friendly cast members (better than previous years) and amazing fireworks (DLP tries, but sadly does not always deliver).

A real shame.  And ironically, DLP charges twice as much nearly during Wishes as other times of the year.  So we can go to DL or WDW off peak and see the fireworks for less than DLP. I find it very frustrating since DLP is the easiest to get to.

Well I don't think you can tell if a firework is good or not only because it has, or not, big fireworks. For example, in Tokyo they are allowed to have big shells but the show itself is very poor. I prefer wishes at DLRP with no big explosion than Disney magic in the sky in Tokyo.
As for both wishes, in Orlando and Paris, i think we have to see them as different shows, only with the same music. If you never saw the original one you will like the Paris one very much. It's different not relying only on fireworks but also the projections and lasers.
The only thing i pity in paris is not having fireworks all year, or at least during christmas also. It would be great to see them coming back during that time of year

Post by: Filip on July 31, 2007, 04:00:34 PM
I think that the big shell fireworks does make a big difference... I think that if even 3 big shells were fired up during classic DLP wishes finalle, people would be really wowed. I think it makes a difference and most of the people is waiting for that. Although they are satisfied with the current DLP wishes. Everybody knows  for example the Disney Pictures Logo, old or new, and everybody knows Disney for its fireworks, and somewhere back in the head know that he/she saw the big fireworks with Disney... I think that by having eg-3shells in the finalle, would not cost much.... and it would be really perfect, and poeple would say, wow the show was perfect. now it is good, but not the "perfect". I just hope that someday this will be solved...

By the way, I would love to go on christmas (never was), but i dont just because of the lack of fireworks, as i am used to them. I though i would take friends with me that never went to Disney before, but then i though to wait till summer, so they see the fireworks as Disney standard.
I think This is bad for DLP. They could have much more people comming during Christmas....
And come someone answer me if i am right to wait till summer with the new people? thanks

Did you even read my post that I made a few hours ago?

There's a court verdict that forbids DLRP to use any noisy fireworks shells at Disneyland Park on a daily base.  Only a few exception are allowed, for which a permission is needed by the major of the town behind Fantasyland.

Edit: please no double posts.  Next time use the edit button of your first post.

Filip, rather than post twice in a row, just click "edit" on your first post.

I agree they should look into having fireworks over Christmas again, since it's easily as busy as Summer and dark enough. Just the two weeks around Christmas and New Year would be great.

This is what is really depressing.  Knowing that even if the resort was booming, they could still not have loads of fireworks above the castle.  It really makes me mad

Such a poor decision.  Well if the 3rd gate ever get's built, because it's a different set of villages, it does make me wonder if we will get a great pyro show over there.  As long as the folks at Bailly Romanvilliers don't complain.

The Christmas Fireworks were very good, even without being big.  I do really think the firework issue is a big down point for DLP.

I guess they could relocate the fireworks to the lake again in order to use the big shells. It's the only way I can think off. Something like Illuminations. But I think it works better behind, or next to, the castle.

According to La Rouquine on DCP, 2008 could see the last year of Wishes:

QuoteThe list of the rehabilitations 2008 was updated. With the menu:
Potential Good bye of Disney Cinema Parades and Wishes.
Good-bye in Toon Train and Alpha bêbette you are.
And welcome with The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Stitch (Live or Encounter, it is with the choice!)

Anyone know anymore?

I was thinking 2007's would be the last... especially considering the newest brochures don't mention the word "Wishes" at all. All they say is something along the lines of "special fireworks to end the day" for Summer, whereas last year they aways mentioned the Wishes title.

Noo! Don't end wishes , I love it! I saw it for the first time this summer and I thought it was so great! With the projections and lasers! Really cool.

I also thought it was one of + points for DLRP compared to the other resorts.

I like the music of "Wishes" very much - the projections are also great. The firework itself is ok - I've seen better ones

My favourite firework is "Remember Dreams come true" from Disneyland - the best I've seen so far! Would be great to see (and hear) something like that over here!
