Title: PanoraMagique Balloon
Post by: Anthony on March 15, 2005, 02:03:01 AM
Welcome to the official topic for the new PanoraMagique experience in Disney Village!

This amazing balloon takes you up to 100m (around 350ft) into the air to give you an incredible view of the resort and the landscape surrounding it.

It opened on 9th April 2005 with tickets costing 12€ for adults and 6€ for children.

Post anything about the balloon here - news, photos, reviews, opinions...

News today:
It looks like PanoraMagique might be getting its own website!  Take a look...

http://www.panoramagique.com/ (http://www.panoramagique.com/)

Hopefully it'll be nicely done - and linked to from the official DV pages!

That looks so cool, and I love how there is history storyline to it, I am beginning to love all these new ideas DLRP are coming up with :D .  You never know it may get me on that balloon after all Baloo  .

Looks like they must have got some feedback about the site - it now says "French | English (coming soon)" at the top, which wasn't there before.

Great news!  The site will go up 100% in my view once they do a translation.

It is quite a nice site, with the DV background colour like the official site, and lots of good info.  The only thing that worries me is the wind speed / people on board ratio chart.  What if lots of people buy tickets for a flight but then can't get on because the winds change?  I sense problems....

Post by: Jorien on March 19, 2005, 02:05:50 PM
Hey that's great news. Then i can finally read it too.

About that wind change, i don't think they will let people buy tickets that far in advance. So when they buy the tickets i think they will know almost certain if the people can enter the balloon or not.

I suppose they might do that, but then it does say that soon you'll be able to buy tickets online.  If they do this and want it to work properly then they'll only be able to sell tickets up to 5 days in advance so that they can have a rough idea of the weather conditions...

I suppose we'll find out more about how it's going to work when it actually opens... or when they get that English translation done!  :D

Oh, then i think there will be problems indeed when the wind changes.  :( I've no idea what kind of solution they have for this.

The Balloon Has Arrived!

Wow!  Just look at these photos!

Photos by Kyoto...

Who said DLP-I don't understand the "weenie" design concept?
//http://kyoto.free.fr/PAQUES%20MARS%202005%20641.jpg

It looks so impressive...
//http://kyoto.free.fr/PAQUES%20MARS%202005%20643.jpg

Wow!  Funny that it has to have that flight code thing on the side though...
//http://kyoto.free.fr/PAQUES%20MARS%202005%20649.jpg

Up in the sky...
//http://kyoto.free.fr/PAQUES%20MARS%202005%20669.jpg

I only realised the other day the "ring" design the guest area of the balloon has... It kinda puts me off going on it, especially as it seems to be so open.  I'm sure i'll manage it though!

I'm impressed at how magical the design is aswell.  I wonder if DLRP own and run it, or if DLRP own it and Aerophile run it?  Or Aerophile own and run it?   So many possibilities....  I did read it cost more than €1m though!

Photos by Emmanuel...

On the landing pad
//http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=4262479&a=31687872&p=71298523

Whoa! So high!
//http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=4262479&a=31687872&p=71298525

This is going to be an incredible new addition to the resort.  Not only will it let us see the resort from a totally unique angle, but it'll become a true landmark of the resort, espcially as you approach.  It'll also bring life, colour and MAGIC to Disney Village.

It's all good!  No, infact it's all AMAZING!    :sorcerer:

Yes, it does look great!!!! Although i have to say that that ring design makes me a bit scared too.   I thought it would be some kind of basket or someting like that. Now you can look down on both sides of you.  :?
It's really high too, that the balloon goes up. I think it will be a great view, the only thing i'm wondering is: will you be able to see the balloon in the park too. For some reason i hope not. When i'm at the park i don't want to see things that are from outside the park. I know it not really 'outside', but still.

You might be able to, i'm afriad.  It'll almost definately be visible from parts of WDS, which isn't so bad, and it might even be visible from Main Street aswell - though since it's designed in a Victorian style this doesn't really matter either - might actually look quite nice and add a bit of extra depth to the theme perhaps?

Maybe you're right, haven't thought about it that way. It also makes me think about the sketch in the From Sketch to Reality book. Luckily it's not a Kodak Balloon for example, that would definately have spoilt it completely.

That looks slightly weird looking at it from Discoveryland, looks like people really will get a great view of the whole resort from that :D .  Now I strangely really want to go on it  .
Title:
Post by: Anthony on March 21, 2005, 03:53:02 PM
Thanks for the link Jorien!  It does look very strange in the distance from Discoveryland...  but again, it does actually kindof fit in there, doesn't it?

The only places where I think it'll be a problem are Frontierland, Adventureland, Fantasyland and perhaps Walt Disney Studios.

But then even in Adventureland it could be seen as explorers off in the distance, travelling to a new world, couldn't it?  And it fits in with the fantasy and magic Fantasyland easily aswell... So it's mainly just Frontierland and WDS that it might look odd from.
Title:
Post by: Jorien on March 21, 2005, 05:21:56 PM
When you think of it, it actually fits in perfectly with the theme of Discoveryland. I read in 'From Sketch to Reality' that Discoveryland was about different ways to travel? So why not a balloon too? The balloon even has got the perfect look for it.
But indeed i think it will look a bit weird in Frontierland. I even don't think that it would look that weird in the WDS, i think WDS could use some extra decorations to make it look a bit better. So why not with a balloon?

Very true, it fits in so well and, just like Main Street, adds to the theme a bit by making the land seem bigger than it is - as if it carries on into the distance...  The balloon does definately look very "Around The World In 80 Days".

Quote from: "Jorien"I even don't think that it would look that weird in the WDS, i think WDS could use some extra decorations to make it look a bit better. So why not with a balloon?

Same as above infact, they could say the balloon is there from the filming of one of the "Around The World In 80 Days" movies...

So yes, Frontierland is the only one with a real problem here.  Poor ol' Frontierland aswell - it already has the WDS searchlights spoiling it from that angle!  :(

Yes, i always find it a bit strange to see these searchlights above big thunder mountain for example. It doesn't belong there!

Ooooh! Noooooo!!
it is bad. And certainly the closure of the park in dutch is terrible.
Translated in English the girl says: Disneyland Park closes in a while his doors. (for some people this can be quite strange) We hope you had a pleasant day.

and back to the topic.
yesterday, they were testing the balloon, which gave us the opportunity to make some pictures of it from different places inside the Disneyland Park.

Great stuff, I really can't wait to see your photos now, there's so much going on in DLRP!

And just to go off topic again - the searchlights do look quite cool and spooky behind Phantom Manor, but then again they take away some of the magic because they're too fast moving and really disturb the atmosphere of the land.

And back on topic:
I wonder if PanoraMagique will have many lights on it?  It's got to have at least a few warning lights on it since it'll run until 10pm most nights... I wonder if they'll light up the actual balloon when it's in the sky or anything?

I know it's completely off-topic, but because it's so bad, that's what makes it so funny. Don't you think?...... No, i guess not!

Whilst the English announcements never annoy me, some of the temporary signs with English translations do:

Now, this isn't totally incorrect at all, it just sounds a bit strange and doesn't exactly sound very magical.  They should have maybe put "This boutique has moved to the Liberty Arcade during the refurbishment" or something like that...

Anyway, just to get this back on topic a bit,   doesn't PanoraMagique look insanely cool here:

on the ground 'star' whereon the balloon is attached there are some huge lightspots. So I think they will be turned on if the balloon is on the 'ground'.

If he is in the sky ... ???? maybe the lights of the trampolines in the village? Those which are put on to Annete's?

I'm quite impressed they put them on there so soon - I was expecting this site to go practically un-updated to be honest, so it's good to see how committed to this Aérophile is.

Let's hope they get a few of the view from the Balloon soon!  :D

And more: //http://www.dlrpmagazine.com/112.php?subaction=showfull&id=1111830831&archive=&start_from=&ucat=3&

So no glass in the sides, just some rope!  A nice view though - I think it'll look better in different lighting conditions though really.  It looks like these were taken in the evening which is always a bit of a tricky time to take photos.

It doesn't look as high up as I expected actually... maybe I won't have to force myself to go on there?

The standing area looks very small though - it must be really packed with 30 people, and I hope they have some kind of system so that people move around in a circle to get a view of every side.  And also, it'd be good to know if there's some kind of guard up there aswell.  If there isn't one then I'd be very surprised.  OK, so they don't have them on the London Eye, but that isn't open like this and the pods are much bigger.  The guard could also make people move around in a circle to allow everything to see from every angle.  Hopefully they thought of this anyway...
Title:
Post by: Jorien on March 26, 2005, 09:51:05 PM
wow, these look amazing. I think it's high enough.......for something that has no windows.  :?

But what you said, is something i was thinking about too. I really hope that people can move around. I wouldn't like it if i could only see the parking lot. When i would be in this, then i would like to see the park of course!
And then there has to be a guard there indeed, otherwise there will always be people that stay where they are, so you can't see the things you would like to see. Or for when there are some annoying kids there.........don't forget that it has no windows!

Exactly!  People could start throwing Ricky Martin CDs from there in an angry protest against the Kids Carnival, or anything!

Something we can probably assume from those photos though is there isn't any music... looks like we'll have to take our own portable CD player up there with a CD of Le Vis music copied from the Sound of Magic for that 360 degree amazement feeling.

Has anyone been on PanoraMagique yet?  I've heard surprisingly little feedback for such a prominent new attraction in the resort.  I only hope this is just all the fans spending all their time at SM:M2 and not just that no-one wants to go on it.  Hopefully the weather isn't causing too many problems...

By the way, there's a new Disney Village map now, featuring both PanoraMagique and the IMAX *PLUS* (most exciting of all) The World's Most Beautiful Parking Lot™.  The old parking lot has been covered over with a bit of fading and green, leaving the path over the bridge by the marina simply leading nowhere... lol

If anyone's interested I'll post it.

I was in the parc the 10th untill the 13th of April, but i did not go into Panoramagique. I could see the balloon go left and right very clearly, even from quite a distance. So i took the easy way out by choosing not to go on the balloon. Maybe nexttime, when there is not that much wind up there. Because the view must be stunning up there and i really regret i did not see it this time.

But on the other hand, i will have something to look forward to, the next time i will be in the parc.

PS: You can find a few pictures about Panoramagique if you click on the following link on page 1 and 2:

Thanks for the links, Sweet Laker!  PanoraMagique really is a stunning new icon for the resort - it's good to have something like the earful tower or castle for Disney Village aswell.  :)

And here's the new 2005 Disney Village map:

It looks really good, except I'm sure they've got the colours wrong on that main walkway.  The bright yellow doesn't match the other walkways at all and looks very strange - hopefully it's an error that they'll correct soon.

Exactly, last time i was there, the color wasnt that bright yellow

I expect them to change it soon, i mean, i cant believe they will leave this kind of errors on the map. But it looks funny though!

Where did you get this map, because i did not see it laying around anywhere in D-Village?!

It's quite a shame that the balloon takes away the sight over Lake Disney when you're dining at Café Mickey on the first floor...   :(

It's one of the official maps that DLRP release for travel agents and so on.

It might not be that bad.  The view of the balloon itself might actually be quite good, and also when its up in the sky it won't block the view either!  :D

Trust me Baloo, for a Disney fan who loves the view over Lake Disney, it was annoying.  Too bad they can't inflate it at night.

And about that map: we got one in Disney Village and they were also in the hotel!

OK, I trust you! :D  I wonder how other views are affected by PanoraMagique?  Like the view from Hotel New York...  It probably isn't affected that much, and I think they chose the best place they could for the balloon in terms of not ruining views.  It's definately very central within the resort aswell, which is good.

Maybe next time you're going to Café Mickey you should stick something in the winch mechanism for the balloon so it gets stuck in the sky?  You'll still have a cable in the way, but it'll be a bit better!

I was trying to find one at Christmas but couldn't.  They didn't have them at the parks and DV was to busy to look properly for them.  I found it really annoyed that the Selected hotels didn't have park maps aswell. They already distrbute the maps around 7 hotels, how hard can it be to drive over to 4 more?  Having said that, if you booked a package with tickets at Kyriad you got maps, but not if you just booked a room.  Still, a stand with some park maps would be nice to make the Selected Hotels a bit more Disney (unless it is only Kyriad that doesn't have maps...).

The new DV maps look very nice though.  I like the yellow colour and it's good that they fit very well next to the WDS and DLP maps.  :)

The Village maps do look like the ones of the parks, but are smaller compared to the other ones.

The English version has been on a while actually, but I forgot to mention it on here and you're right that it's not working now...  :?   It was working when it was first put online, if I can remember correctly.

Maybe we should tell them it isn't working?    They don't seem to have noticed in at least a fortnight!

Should we?... Tell them, i mean. Maybe that person that registrated him/herself as PanoraMagique is reading our comments anyway. So that way they know that it's not working like it should. ...........At least i think that this person has something to do with the website, because he/she told us that there would be an English version very soon.

I'm so sorry PanoraMagique.  I'm affraid this happens quite often at his site.  I hope you can sort this out!  I wouldn't like it either when people would just steal my pictures.

it is not serious, but I would like to see my quoted name...

More especially as I do not know where it took these photographs which
were on a protected space intended for the press.

Welcome back PanoraMagique! I'm so sorry to hear that he used your pictures without saying they are yours!

I really don't like it when people do that. It's a very low thing to do.
It's so easy to mention someones name in your post, i don't understand it! :x

Have you been in contact with him about it yet? I really think you should let him know that this is not the way to treat people.
This is the forum address of his website: http://www.dlrpfans.be/forum/ (http://www.dlrpfans.be/forum/)
If you scroll a little you can see his username, click on that and then you can see his profile, this way you can also send him an email.

Maybe people think this is not a very nice way, putting this link online like that, but he hasn't been very nice either!

I hope you can sort it out with him!

Hello,

one note concernuing the "copyrights" - they belong to disney as long as the pics were taken in a park! I wanted to show a photo of space mountain in the "foto community" and a member told me to be careful. So I sent an e-mail to disney & the answer was that I was allowed to use photos only for private, non-commercial use, e.g. on my website or at the fotocommunity, but I had to write something like: Photographer fortherone, all rights by DLRP - so it'S not a question of copyrights but of fairness! And: Be careful and don't use park-pics commercially!

But you've taked the pictures not Disneyland Paris....

They've built the attractions, they organize the parades, they own the ground... I know that they can make a lot of problems if one uses the fotos to make profit. Believe me or not...

Disneytheque.com informs us that the Panoramagique is a success!!!  103.000 visitors have already gone up in the sky between April 8, 2005 and January 21, 2006.   Due to the success has the owner of the balloon, Aérophille, decided to keep it open during the winter season.

And to compare: a similar balloon located in Paris town has had 360.000 visitors since 2000.

Brilliant, brilliant news!  I think PanoraMagique is one of the best additions to the resort since 1992 - it just fits so perfectly in the Paris resort, and it sounds like it must be a good money-maker too!  :D

I guess this is pretty good news for the Disney Village expansion/rehab project in general then?  :)
