Title: New DLRP Promotional DVD!
Post by: Anthony on March 11, 2005, 04:37:43 PM
I got the new UK promotional DVD today!

It's not as bad as I thought it would be from what I'd heard, but it isn't very amazing.

There's nice blue menus in the DLRP style (with the needmag?c banner, dlrp font and so on), and then a 5minute video preview of the resort.  It's quite a good video despite the very short length, with some good slow orchestral music before it gets to "You'll Be In My Heart".  It uses DLRP's collection of footage well and should do a lot of good in persuading more people to go.

If you want an idea of what the video's like, download this: //http://www.frantour.nl/data/video/disney_internet.mpg

The video on the DVD is the same except for the following changes:
- The slow orchestral music at the start isn't from Tarzan, but I can't quite tell what it is actually from.  It sounds nice though, and stops it from looking like they overused Tarzan.
- Man U Soccer Schools are featured.  Only for a few seconds, but this shows they do have some nice footage of the place.  Only problem is though, it's VERY obviously added in, since the voiceover guy's voice changes and the picture looks slightly different.
- A few modifed shots here and there, like two (terrible, really terrible shots of LOTLK before the Beauty and Beast section of the Disneyland Park bit.
- At the end, it continues a bit longer to mention the UK reservation hotline and disneylandparis.com

Also included on the DVD are pages with information (which is similar or perhaps even identical the brochure) with a slideshow of photos next to it.  Before each of these sections of text info is a short full-screen slideshow.  A nice idea, but the transitions between photos are really bad - hard to explain why...

The menus use the orchestral music from the first half of the video to give them a magical yet calming and relaxing feel.  They probably look more professional and slicker than the official DVD ones, since they follow the DLRP style and don't have lots of random images jumbled together.

Overall, really not a bad effort at all for their first DVD.  It comes in a nice thin card slipcover and definately looks very professional.  It should help make people want to go a lot more by letting them see in the video the magic of the resort, and the video itself is a million times better than the one on the official souvenir DVD - no annoying family, no bad dubbing, much better shots, etc. etc.  The only small complaint I have about the video is that the picture quality isn't too good, but then I suppose I shouldn't expect much from a promotional DVD.

And so, even though this by no means gets anywhere near as good as the WDW DVDs, it's amazing to finally DLRP doing this, and a clear sign that times have changed at our favourite place on earth - new management, more marketing, more ideas, just MORE magic overall really.

Bravo DLRP!  =D>  =D>

If you'd like to get hold of this DVD and you live in the UK, then go to http://www.disneylandparis.com (http://www.disneylandparis.com) and order the Spring/Summer 2005 brochure.  When you receive the brochure the DVD should be thrown in the envelope with it - hopefully.  They might not get it into every brochure though, of course, so be patient...

(btw, I'll scan it in later so you can see what it looks like)

Here are some scans of the DVD:

Looks quite snazzy overall, especially since it's free.  I wonder how much the envelope/letter/brochure/dvd/postage combo costs DLRP overall?

How can i get my hands on such a promotional dvd???? Can i order it somewhere?   I loved that commercial when i saw it on that website, so i would love to have something like that on dvd.

Jorien  :D

Edit: I've just filled in all the information needed on the dlrp website. And asked for the brochure. Let's hope they'll send it to me. It worked some years ago, when i did that with an WDW video!

What i was thinking, how can i be sure that they'll send me a brochure with the dvd? Because there wasn't anything said on the website about this dvd, at least not where i had to fill in all the information needed.
Let's hope they will!

At the moment they seem to be including the DVD with every Spring/Summer UK brochure sent out, so there's kinda a 99% chance you'll get one I think.

I'm not sure how long they'll be doing this for though, so everyone else - try and get one ASAP!

I'm not sure if you can get the UK brochure sent to another country, and if you can i'm not sure if they'll include the DVD, so it is a bit of a lottery at the moment...

Well, today i received the brochure, and even when i asked it through the UK page of disneylandparis.com i got it without DVD.
How can i get my hands on that dvd???? Why do only UK people get this, it's not that there are only dlrp fans in the uk!!!!!  :(
It's not fair!!!  :x (I'm thinking about sending them an e-mail about it!)

I did send them an email about it, by the way! The day i got the brochure i immediatly wrote them an email. Today i received a message in return......about the DVD i can order  :? Of course that one i already have!!!! So i sent another message, with pictures of the cover. Let's hope they will now understand what i mean.
I keep on trying!

Good luck!

I noticed just now that brochures for the UK are now sent from Coventry in the UK instead of France, which is interesting.  I've wondered for ages why didn't do this since it must be so much cheaper.

Also, the letter they put in with the brochures actually said "We are delighted to present the Disneyland Resort Paris 2005 Brochure and DVD", whereas when I first ordered the Spring/Summer brochure and they weren't doing the DVDs, it didn't say this.

So where was your brochure sent from?  It's possible that for people in countries other than the UK they simply send the normal Spring/Summer brochure from France as they did before, whereas those in the UK get sent the brochure from Coventry along with the DVD...

I've ordered another Spring/Summer brochure myself, so I'll let you know if I get the DVD.
Title:
Post by: Jorien on March 21, 2005, 08:05:53 PM
I just looked on the envelop.....yes, i've kept it! (Now it really must seem like i have that brochure with me all the time, haha!) It's posted from France!  :(
So i guess you're right about that the 'normal' brochures are send from France and the ones with the dvd's from the uk.  :(

I hope for you that you'll get it. I'm still hoping that they will understand my email i sent them about it!

If I do get another DVD, I'll carry on being really naughty and try and get a couple more, then I might be able to send them to anyone who wants them.

But at the moment, i'm still hoping they understand what i asked them in my e-mail. And that they will send one to me.

I have also sent for a brochure although a couple of weeks ago I got Autumn/Winter brochure for no apparant reason which was quite funny.  Lets hope I get a DVD :D .
Title:
Post by: Jorien on March 21, 2005, 10:39:17 PM
haha, why did they send that one to you? The Autumn and Winterseason are already over!   ]
I hope you'll get that dvd too!

I received a message from dlrp today, and they said that only people from the uk receive it with their request for a brochure........As if i didn't know that yet!

So i sent them another message, where i ask them if there isn't a possibility that i could get it too. *please*, *please*, *please*. Yes, i was almost begging them!
So this is really my last hope!
I still don't know why only people from the uk get this! Okay, we'll get a free magazine, but that's not a dvd!!!

Jorien  :D
Title:
Post by: Jorien on March 23, 2005, 08:49:40 PM
Well, that didn't help!  :(

I received another message today again. And because most of you don't know Dutch i'll translate it, it's very short!!!  :x

We thank you for your new message.

We're sorry, but we can't send you the DVD.

We thank you for your interest in Disneyland Resort Paris

Yours faithfully,

*****

So that's not working either.  :(

I still don't understand it, why UK people get it and others don't!

Jorien  :D

This is just a complete guess, but I think the DVD was probably made in the UK by DLRP's UK branch, which explains why they "can't" send you the DVD.  They probably could really, but it's too much trouble for them to phone the UK offices and get them to send some over.

Let's hope I can get a few more of what seems to be the world's shortest and most popular DVD then!    And who knows - if they work well in the UK they might use them for more countries...

Maybe that's the reason then. It could be true. But one phonecall, is that so much work? And is it really that short? Still, if you might get some, i'm really interested.

Well, it's a 5 minute video with a few static menu screens of info about the parks.  Really not much at all, but if you're a DLRP fan and obsessed with collecting every tiny thing (like me), then it's a nice thing to have.  :D

PS. Yes you think after the amount of spamming of email inboxes you do Jorien we would not have guessed or is that just my inbox?

Today i received the WDW vacation kit. It looks really great!!! I had to wait a long time for it to get it, but at least this they did send me. And this is also coming from the uk. I first signed in on the american website, played a bit with the information they asked, but i didn't receive anything. (Only americans were able to request it) So i visited the UK website and also on this website it was only for people from the UK. But here you'll just have to look for something where you can also put the country you live in......et voila!  :D
So i'm really happy that i got at least this one. I know what i'll be doing tomorrow! But i guess you have got it already?

Guess what!!!!!! This evening i was reading my messages and there was one from DLP Guest Communication. Because i wasn't expecting anything anymore, it was a surprise seeing this message.

They've asked a colleague in the UK to send the DVD to me!!!!!  :D  :D  :D

Great news, isn't it, and really great service! It's really strange that i got this. Because i already got a message that they couldn't send it to me, and now this. So i guess they forwarded the message again to another department or something like that. That's something that seems to happen very often. Do you notice that too. Also when you've asked something at the mailorder. You first get a message about it, and a bit later you get another message telling you something else. Strange, but great!!!!  :D

I'll let you know when i got it!

I got home and there it was!!! Always nice to find an envelope of dlrp between the mail!

I like it, it's short, but i like it! It's has the same advert on it that i found on that travelagency site. I wanted it so bad in better quality and now i have, so i'm really happy!  :D
Another Dlrp dvd for my collection!

Don't you think this is great service of Dlrp? I'm going to send them a thank you message now.

Wow, that's VERY quick!  I'm very impressed with DLRP's service there - it just shows you, if you find the right person at guest communications then magic can happen!

The DVD is very nice, especially when you consider this is only really DLRP's second DVD and their first attempt at a promotional one like the WDW ones.  Let's just hope it turns out successful and they keep releasing them each year and they keep getting better and better like the WDW ones.  :D

I'm shocked!!!!!   I just read on another forum a message sent by Martin that he just got the promotional dvd. Guess what! It's another one then that was sent before. It seems that this one has got a complete different packaging. And the video we all saw is just the introduction of the dvd!!! There are new videos about the theme parks and disney village in the style of the WDW planning videos. The videos include footage from Disney's Fantillusion and the Disney Cinema Parade as well as Cinemagique, Phantom Manor, Pirates of the Caribbean and Space Mountain: Mission 2.

I was just so happy that, after all the begging i did, they decided to send it to me too here in Holland. Now i have to start all over again.

"Starting" a library?  It's already there - at least 1 copy of each brochure from every season since 2002...     I don't have many Spring/Summer 2005 ones yet though, I never got the one I ordered to  get a 2nd DVD to give to you... Maybe I've been blacklisted already?  :?

After I heared about the first DVD I just don't really needed to get it, because I have it on video tape. But now that I know that there is another one with footage from PM,POTC... I want to have it too. So I will try to get it, but I think I will not have a chance to get it, because I'm from Germany and they do not advertise DLP here very good. But I'll try. And of course I have this kind of library too.

I got the DVD today.  It's the best DVD EVER!!! OK, well it's pretty damn good and a huge improvement over the last one at least.

There's some awesome footage of LOTLK on there, and a few seconds of the Enchanted Fairytale Ceremony which I saw being filmed (wooo go me!).

Overall, I just can't believe this is coming from DLRP.  The menus are fantastic and the videos are great.  There's even resort maps and "how to draw mickey" on the DVD aswell.  It's just brilliant.  Superb online brochures, great DVDs with brochures... I love DLRP.  :D

EDIT: Oh, and the packaging is a billion times better now aswell.  Still the same kind of card slipcover, but the graphics on it look very posh.  I'll post a scan later tonight...

Yeah, start begging again Jorien!  It'll really be worth it this time!  OK, so the videos only add up to about 20-25mins in length (including the intro), but something like this is so special coming from DLRP.  I just looked at the cover and disc again in disbelief at how high quality it looks.

My message to you all - don't buy the official DLRP DVD!  Move to the UK and order a brochure!

Actually, did anyone else notice how they used footage from the official DVD video in this promo DVD?  It was quite funny to see how they'd taken just little bits of that to make up a tiny part of this much superior DVD video!  The Fanti/MSEP documentary is a very good reason to buy the official DVD though, so I suppose they're even - one has a good guide video, the other has good extras.

I'm watching the videos on the DVD non-stop now, they're SO good.  I'm sure you've all already seen them on goldencelebration.com/dlrp.co.uk, so let us know what you think!  IMO they're some of the most comprehensive and well put-together videos of this kind we've ever seen from DLRP.

And that music - it's used in the DLP guide on the main menu - what is it?  I'm really getting addicted to it, it's so cool!  I hope it's something well-known and not just a random piece of music they bought for use in the video, since I'd really like the full version...  :)

Scans of the DVD coming in a little while.

So I already  downloaded the videos from goldencelebration.com. Thank you Jorien !    I like the videos so much. They're really great. But I'm with Jorien about the woman who's speaking for the Disneyland Park. She's annoying, I prefer the man who's speaking for WDS. But the videos are the best videos ever to merchandise the park. Shame DLP does not give this DVD to all the countries, because with that videos people who would see it, would definetly go to DLP. The videos have so much good footage of almost every attraction and the hotels. These videos are getting you really in the mood to go to DLP.  :D

Set up a new email address and give a fake name...

...the move house so that they don't realise it's you again from your address!

I think it is actually worth begging for this DVD though, since I do doubt it'll be used in any other country for a while.  If they do use it in another country, not only will they have to translate all the videos and menus, but they'll have to change a section of the DVD with a (really cheap) CG map showing how to get to DLRP from the UK...  :?

That map is not something i'm worrying about, as dlrp already made a 3d animation of how to get to dlrp from Holland. So they would only have to translate it. But like you said too, i doubt they will for a while. I think this release is just a test. If it's a success then maybe.....

So i'm really happy that i got at least this one. I know what i'll be doing tomorrow! But i guess you have got it already?

Jorien :D

WOW How did you menage to do so  :?: I was asking them so many times to send mi this kit and nothing... they didn`t want to  :x

Maybe you can make a dvd image of this vacation kit (and maybe of DLRP DVD also) using for example Nero and place it somewhere in the internet so I can download it and burn it on DVD for myslef  :?:

I just went to the english website of WDW, and filled in the form to ask for a free kit. Here (//http://www.disney.co.uk/usa-resorts/waltdisneyworld/vpv/vpkpage.jsp?pid=1858) is the exact link of the page where you can fill in the form.
Are you from Holland too? Or maybe from another country outside the UK? Then the only thing you have to do is fill in all the information asked and behind county you have to fill in your country (i know it's not the same) That's how i did it...and it works! It did some years ago with the videotape and now with the dvd too. Good luck!

And if you can't wait that long......here (//http://www.wdwresorttv.com/tracker/browse.php) is the website with the torrent you can download: WDW 2005 Vacation Planning DVD.torrent. (You have to register first!)

Hope this is the information you needed!

Thanks a lot... :)

I think I will fill in the form on the page you gave me because a real WDW DVD is much more "exciting" than a "torrent"

BTW I`m from Poland so only a little bit more to the East from Holland and UK too  :P

LOL, I'm sure you'll all be pleased to know that the DVD must have been the big break the voiceover woman needed - she's now doing recorded Christmas special offer announcements for Clintons card shops!!!      I hope they can afford to get her back for next year's DVD...   (or not, as the case may be)

I think you just have to order the DLRP brochure, but I think that our British members can help you out on this.

As far as I know the DVD is still only available to UK guests.  They used to send it out with the brochures, although that may have changed by now.

You can also order the DVD on its own from here: //http://www.disneylandparis.com/magicalsmiles/ , but I've forgotten the code!  :?

And also of interest - the 2006 Spring/Summer brochure is now available to order: //http://www.disneylandparis.com/cgi-bin/brochure_request/step2.cgi?c=GB&t=E&l=United%20Kingdom&ls=uk&v=&cp= haven't got mine yet though!

Aha!  Just found the code - it's DMC.

I can't guarantee they're still using that service to send out DVDs, but it's worth a try.  I'd order a copy of either Autumn/Winter or Spring/Summer brochure at the same time too.

I hope you get the DVD!  It's really good!  :D

You can call me Ant or Anthony, I don't mind!    I don't visit DLRP that often, maybe once or twice a year.  I went twice last year and my visit this July will probably be my only one of 2005, but luckily the internet helps...  :D And yourself?

hi

i've got this planning DVD its very good.  i got it from a wacky warehouse! they had a stack of them.

joe loves watching it, he's getting excited about going now cos he's been watching it.  it makes it much easier for him as he's autistic so needs to see things, as he doesn't really understand things that are said to him.  i have to say disney really take care of their disabled guests and it is the best place to take joe as there is so much consideration of his needs.

Aww thats very sweet... and im sure if you would like you can request a special meet and greet before the parade takes place so that he can meet his favourite disney character(s). Im not sure where you could request as I worked in parade department and usually if we wanted meet and greets we'd ask our team leaders, but im sure at city hall you can ask. Its very cool, as its personal and 1 to 1 interaction, and the characters love spending time with special guests. Just something to consider for you.

Did you change the country to Greece on the official DLP site or did you order from the English site? Here in Austria we can't order a brochure, too, because I'm always redirected to the German site. Maybe the best is to go to the next travel agency and ask for a brochure.

I changed the country to Greece but still nothing... the travel agency doesn't have the disney brochure that is online... just a small one with disney basics!

I dont think that you will find brochures in Greece... Maybe try looking at a travel agency... Carrefour always have adverts on their travel agency...
