Exciting news comes from La Roquine on Disney Central Plaza:
The keelboats are returning by the end of this month or early July! Problem this time wasn't budget cuts, but a change of rules by the goverment. It turned out that the CM's needed to have a licence for operating a boat. DLRP got exclusive permission by the regulators for training them on property.
I saw a crew getting trained with a regular boat on Lake Disney last week, which explains the above.
Wow, amazing huh! I'm so excited, I've never been on the Keelboats...
:D
For the newbies who don't know what the River Rogue Keelboats are, here's a link to the Photos Magiques album (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/river_keelboats).
Edit: Decided to split the topic from the original one (which can be found here (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=639&highlight=keelboats)).
Thats brilliant :D
Is it going to be seasonal though? I'd love to go on them in October.
:D How lovely!
:) Has anyone on the forum actually been on them? If so, tell us about it!
Yahooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!! Though I might still need to wait until I see them with my own eyes carrying guests to believe it...
This is some of the best news we've had in months! It's the final encore of Karl Holz' turnaround of the resort - every month, every week DLRP is getting better and better these days. Seriously, can we say he's the best CEO the resort has ever had now? He certainly has an amazing team around him, wanting to do things like this.
Reopening an attraction that costs a lot to run and doesn't even have a very high capacity, simply for guest satisfaction... is this still Disney? :P
It might also say something about their attendance this Summer - do they need more capacity at Disneyland Park now? Interesting...
i've been on them ! but i was only about 8 so i don't remember it too well. it was nice, i remember them being very low in the water and quite quick, good way to escape the summer bustle :D
x x x
i will be keeping my fingers crossed that they will be open for our september visit

I rode them a number of times through the 90's, last time being 1999. They were slow loading, and had small numbers of guests, but they were cool because the spiel was given by the cast members rather than a recording. They travelled between the islands including the rapids (that could be even better felt in the canoes) and through the rock arch. The journey could be really dull or a lot of fun. It was always down to the cast members and the guests on board. But that's what made it cool.
I used to ride them all the time in US parks too, where it really was like a western version of the jungle cruise.
awesome, i read about these on dlrpmagic, where do u go in the boats, it will be ace :D
:P They sound good. :o I don't think they'll be open for next week though if they're talking late June/early July. I'll have to wait till our next DLRP trip in 2009!
We leave DLP on the 29th, so there may be a small chance we can try them again.
They were always great fun and a fantastic place just to relax if you are tired. It will be a great addition as for so many it will be a new attraction.
Acctually the same as with the canoos but then again I always sat at the back and let the others paddle
Never been one i think, but a really great re-opening by Disney :D
Training on the Rivers of the Far West has started!

*screams* :o :o
Life has returned to the Rivers of the Far West!!!
Thanks raptor! :D
I've never ridden these either (I've never seen them before at the park), but they do look really good and I hope I get to ride them some day!
so they actually get turned by cast members :o that will make it alot more fun :D
Will they operating later in the year? Say, October/November sort of time?
Quote from: "RnRCj"Will they operating later in the year? Say, October/November sort of time?
Oooh maybe not. I'm guessing they'll run July and August, but if they continue beyond that will depend on how successful they are. October could be a strong possibility though, since it's so busy these days and the centre of Halloween.
I guess we'll have to wait and see...
That are great news! I loved this attraction! How will it be to ride it again after this very long break!
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! hopefully thell be open for my trip in 2 weeks!!
iv just booked for 20th - 22nd aug and the cast member said they wont be open then :(
disneytheque wrote that it will open from July 7th :D

Argh...pity, laast day is 2 July :(
Hm don´t worry! Maybe they are wrong and it will open earlier! I pray for you! [-o<
And if not: Take your own little blow-up rubber boat and make the tour on your own :D
Whahahahhaha will do....i must have one with a big Mickey on it somewhere
So if you here that story (or pictures and videos on CNN/YOUTUBE) you'll know which crazy dutchman that was :P
I will be very happy and proud if I see you in your mickey-boat on the rivers in frontierland!
Tinker you a "Keelboats" sign to make it a real experience!
Can't wait to go on these now!! Are they fully controlled by CM's?
Quote from: "Riebi"disneytheque wrote that it will open from July 7th :D
aww snap lol
Where are the Keel boats located? We were on the Mark Twain yesterday and saw someone working on a Brown Boat with the name Coyote on it. I couldn't see where you would go to get on one of those boats and would it be able to run with The Mark twain in the water also?
The loading dock is at #6, and they're controlled totally by Cast Members, so they can dodge the riverboats and go further into and around the islands/rocks of the Rivers of the Far West. :)
Thanks!
I wonder with the Keelboats open and Pocahontas Indian Village operating, would they consider reopening the Pueblo Trading Post shop? It can easily be used as a cold drinks stand.
:o We saw the brown boat named Coyote whilst we were riding the train on Thursday.

i was thinking that too as it would add too the area and like you said raptor would be great as a cold drink stand after playing in the village or sailing on the kealboats
The waiting time sign has been installed!

I can only hope that 120 minutes aren´t the normal status there
Quote from: "Riebi"I can only hope that 120 minutes aren´t the normal status there
I doubt it
It's all looking so good so far, I think that this year will definately be the best year in DLRP history :D
120 minutes :P It's just a shame I won't be able to ride these since I'll probably be visiting in November this year :(

Doubt it, I expect a queue of 120 minutes, if crush can get 2 hours, cars 1 hour, yep definately can see 2 hour queues for the keelboats, after all to normal guests they are a new attraction  .

Hm keeping this in mind I´m also not sure. 120 minutes can be true cause the capacity of the attraction isn´t very high. How much boats have they?
Oooo... I'm excited I have been to disney 6 times before and this time I am the most excited! They sound fun!

This has been stated already, but there are only 2 boats, the Coyote and the Racoon  .
It wasn't open this weekend. We overheard a Cast Member explaining to other guests that it wouldn't reopen this week.
Oh I wish they will be open and operating in september. I never had the chance to ride with them, but I want to.
I'm going on saturday 28th to dlrp, i was already looking forward so much! the last time i rode it was in '97!! I still cross my fingers.. :D
I've been told that they were operating today! :D
Quote from: "raptor1982"I've been told that they were operating today! :D
:D/ WOOOHOOO :D/

Hopefully they'll be operating in September, which seems to be the most likely time I'll visit now
whaaahoooooo!
Welcome Back Kealboats!!
It`s nice to see them return I even had the pleasure of riding them this morning, nice little attraction, definately giving some life back to Frontierland.
Any news of their opening hours??? I hope they are operating late September
Its great to hear they returned just in time! I'll check them out tomorrow. 8)
By the way; can someone please tell me the storyline behind the Keelboats? It has something to do with smugglers right?
Didier Ghez's bible reveals:
Quote from: "From Sketch to Reality"Our adventurous spirit leads us to board one of the two River Rogue Keelboats - named Raccoon and Coyote - the smuggler's boats inspired by the 1955 film Davy Crocket and the River Pirates. The boats departs from Smuggler's Cove, a hideout for river pirates. The voyage is relatively peaceful and we even have time to wave Old Joe, who is fishing not far from the picturesque surroundings of Wilderness Island.

Thanks for your response! I would never have thought that there was a storyline and such a strong link to the Davy Crocket films. It proves once again that Frontierland is a true gem of Imagineering.

Yes! I agree, and hope it will always be a gem...

I second this request ...
When i was there we were on the Molly Brown outside the phantom Mannor and the Kealboat went straight past, what a sight. I just wish i was standing at Phantom Mannor to get that picture.
Wow they look soooo great. I so much wish to ride with them. In ten days I will find out if I can. :D/
Does anyone know if the keelboats are open all year round or are they just at peak times ?
I'd love to try them in January. We've never had the chance before.
Mr_B
When we went this september (off-season), keelboats were only operating on weekends. :?
Thanks for the post Reiana.
Looks like I might be lucky and get a chance of trying them on the day I leave. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Mr_B
We went on them in September and they were onlyopen at the weekend like mentioned earlier and the queues werent too bad, about 30mins
does anyone know if keelboats will be open over the christmas holiday?
many thanks
sorry, should have put this in trip planning, will post it there!!!
Quote from: "ford prefect"does anyone know if keelboats will be open over the christmas holiday?
It should - though nothing can be confirmed... Disney wants to have them running as often as possible and the next batch of CMs will make its boat license shortly... or so I've heared.
