From October 1st the EMH are changing.
It will now only be one hour (9-10) but BOTH parks will be open.
This seems to be a compromise of sorts - to get both parks open without spending a lot more on staff they've reduced it to one hour.
No word on what rides in the Studios will be open yet but it would certainly help the queuing times if they could get Crush and Ratatouille open.
Great idea to open the studios early. Hopefully more info on the rides soon
It's means a longer sleep in haha but not much of an incentive when general public can usually get in from 9:30.

true but would be a great studio option if rides like crush and ratatouille where open for EMH or at least 1 so you're top of the que for the other
Whenever EMH doesn't begin until 9:00 the queues by then at the gates are massive. It is likely that it will encourage more to go in a little earlier than they might previously have, as it's now a more achievable opening time.
It's a shame for us, as we always do EMH between 8:00-9:00 then go for breakfast, having done all our favourite rides that we never get on during the always-busy day.
We might just need to start going during term time.
What about the character breakfast in the park at8.15 though?
The lady who does the Caffein & Pixie Dust videos on YouTube said she spoke with DLP who advised they were going to be a lot stricter with the general public who don't have EMH access. We'll see..!

I can definitely see them having strict entry lanes and you only get to the active entry barriers if you show a hotel or fast pass. Then those without don't get to enter until ten. Can't be that hard to organise.

They didnt when i was there in december and EMH was only between 9am-10am. People who werent staying onsite just jumped the barriers -so they bypassed the CM's - got their tickets scanned and were in.
Was chaos.
Not enough staff.
Was a free for all.

Can't imagine this would fly now with all the extra security measures.
More details for the new extra magic hours regarding the rides included.
Disneyland Park: Peter Pan, Dumbo, Carousel, Tea Cups, Princess Pavilion
Studios: Crush, Ratatouille
On the bright side, they have 3 of the longest wait rides there which will be a big advantage. On the down side they've taken away Discoveryland in order to do this.Disneyland Park no longer seems really worth it unless you want to go in the Pavilion. Peter Pan maybe too. Buzz feels like the biggest loss here as personally I always do that during EMH because it's so busy later.
No not buzz!! :(
We only ever do that in magic hours (most days). It's always so good in emh as it's quite often 5 min wait.

When we were there in Jan 16 the EMH were only at the Studios. Didn't seem to make a difference either because we went in to meet characters and still waited 45 minutes at quiet time to see them :-\

Cutting the Magic Hour to one hour and only opening Fantasyland means the hour won't be particularly "Magic".
I imagine the queues for Peter Pan and Dumbo will be just as bad as they are during normal opening hours.
Ok so I was there at the beginning of August, The gates from the village to Disneyland Park were not opened until 8 am.
By the time you had walked to the entrance, gained entry and walked to the first ride it was already 20 mins into EMH...
At 9 am everyone was being allowed access to the park, and there were staff at one entrance to Discoveryland checking tickets but the only thing preventing anyone going around them was a rope!?
Early Magic Hours were a joke in my opinion and this change will just make them completely pointless!
One day we had 2 rides on Peter Pan and then noticed how busy the park was getting already,
Another day we rode buzz and when we came out the park was as if it was just open to everyone...
We didn't bother on day 3 and didn't feel like we had really missed out then at the end of the week we queued to meet Chip n Dale and by that time the park was open fully...
By my maths there are 5,765 rooms at DLP that come with EMH access, add to that anyone who has the old or some of the new Annual passes, that's a whole lot of people to split between the small selection of open rides.
Having only one hour is NOT going to provide magic to anyone.
Legoland offers a whole 30 mins early access and calls that a perk of staying onsite... Wait until Disneyland realise they can get away with that!
What I would like to see are updated tickets that when scanned will not allow access to those without the correct tickets. Having so much paper and relying on staff at this point is ridiculous. Hopefully, the Walt Disney Company will do something about this when they start taking a more active role in the running of the park.
New-new EMH are taking into account what people have been saying and the logistical issues involved.
From October 1st, EMH will last from 8:30-9:30. The park won't open until 10 but non-hotel guests will be allowed in from 9:30 as they are now.
Seems like a whole lot of drama and messing about for a change of 1/2 an hour! Perhaps they could've just altered which rides were open and left the times as they were...much simpler.

Allowed in where? Up to the hub, or all the way to the rides (whole park or just MH rides)? What is opening at 10?

By the sound of it, it's the same as it is now in DLP in that they'll be allowed in Main Street and the hub but will have to wait for rope drop to access the other areas. No idea how they're going to run this in the Studios. Maybe they won't be allowed out of Studio 1?
Thanks for all the info - I'm glad it's now 8.30 as 9am seemed rather pointless. It's excellent to see the studios (especially Crush) finally included here, but like others I'll miss buzz and other Discoveryland rides.
I understand a compromise had to come somewhere though so on balance it's still an improvement!
Yet more updates!
Extra Magic Hours are now called Extra Magic Times - I guess 'hours' wasn't really very accurate any more!
RnR has been added to the roster at the Studios so now there are 3 rides in that park to spread the guests around a bit more.
A little note at the bottom of the press release says 'some of the attractions will be available to all our guests from 9:30am until official park opening time' which seems to mean they have no easy way of limiting access to the Studios (and tbf the courtyard and Studio 1 are no where near as big as Main Street and the hub so it likely wouldn't be safe) so the rides there will essentially be open to all from 9:30am with the rest opening at 10.

Thanks for sharing - even better! So excited for EMT (that feels weird) in the Studios, it will make such a difference to get on Crush. I've had many trips where I haven't managed to ride it at all, between breakdowns and crazy wait times.
If it's helpful to anyone, I've written a (hopefully comprehensive!) guide to new Extra Magic Times here (https://thegrownupmouse.tumblr.com/extramagictimes).

Ah thank you! Yes of course they do, completely forgot some people will have those still. I will add that with acknowledgement. :)
New EMT started today.
By around 9am, Crush was at 75mins, Ratatouille at 55mins, the Pavilion at 45mins and everything else was walk on. No Peter Pan's flight at the moment because it's closed for a short refurb.

Woah! Those seem like crazy times for EMH but could that just be because it's a weekend and also the first day the studios was open?
Does anyone know if the Fastpass ticket machines are open during EMT?
Does anyone know how green pass slots are working with Princess Pavillion now it's open earlier?
And are the meets the same as previously?

I think it's a mixture of weekend and no Peter Pan in the main park which made that a fairly unattractive option unless you were off to the pavilion. It seems it'll definitely be worth going to EMT at 8:30 on the dot if you want to ride Crush.

Not sure about the passes.
Meets in the pavilion or with the other characters during EMT?
Apparently there were no characters in the Studios this morning. Not sure about the main park but that is never guaranteed - when we were there in early July there were characters out on Main Street every day during EMH even though technically those M&Gs weren't scheduled to start until 11am. They often are there but it isn't a set part of the daily schedule.
The pavilion ran as normal this morning with Aurora meeting guests.
Hi people,
I'm currently at DLP and was wondering if the fast pass machines are working during EMH? We would love to ride Ratatouille later in the morning as there are 6 of us but not everyone in our party is an early bird.
No, the FP-machines are available during "regular" opening hours.
Thanks for the reply. We managed to get in the park for opening time and got FP tickets for 11:40. Studio queues are much bigger today then the main park.
Reported today that they will be adding hyperspace mountain, buzz light year and orbitron back in the emt rides. So happy about this!

It's from 18th March.
Also Snow White will be replacing the Teacups whilst they're closed for maintenance.
This is great news. When we were there in early December the queue for Peter Pan built up extremely fast because everybody whent there first thing during EMT. The same for the queue for princesses.
