Hiya all,
I'm just looking into buying warm clothes etc for us all for our first DLP winter visit. We are going 19th-23rd Dec, and I hear it's very cold that time of year.
What do you all wear when you visit when it's freezing? We've all got gloves and coats etc, but don't think that they will stand up to being in the cold and potentially wet weather all day, so I'm going to get a lot of new to go. I've been looking at the north face stuff, buts it's so expensive, especially when your buying for 4 people.
Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with anything? Any tips or recommendations?
I'm looking at coats, gloves and thermals at the mo. Oh yes and maybe some sit mats ;)

Well, an idea is to perhaps get a nice warm thermal underlayer (undershirt at least and leggings/tights) for everyone, that's probably cheaper than upgrading everyone's coat (which are usually quite expensive), and it should keep you nice and warm. Amazon.co.uk has a wide selection to choose from.
We normally wear lots of thin layers that can be removed when in warmer places. We often have tights or long johns on under trousers and comfortable footwear- it might be good to be warm but remember you are on your feet all day so choose wisely :)
I agree that i could under layer makes all the difference. We do long sleeved/legged thermals with fleeces or jumpers, scarves, gloves and hats . I personally could not be without my long padded Jack Wolfskin coat - just like wearing a duvet :)
And don't forget good warm footwear. Standing around in the cold waiing for parades, dreams etc, the first thing to get cold are your tootsies! Depending on how cold it is we do cotton socks followed by thermals and snow boots if temperatues are around freezing or under.
Okies, thanks all :D. So far I've bought crocs boots for myself and youngest DD. They should be comfortable and based on the reviews, they should be warm too. I'll get some cotton and thermal socks for everyone though, just incase they are not enough and we need the layers ;). I'm such a freezer, my hands and feet are cold now lol, so I really want to be well organised. My DD's are like their dad and don't seem to feel it like I do, which is good, but they still need to be well wrapped up :D.
The last time I went to DLP was a mid December. I didn't wear any thermals or special clothing. I just wore what I wear in December in the UK and was fine. Trousers, jumper, coat, gloves, socks and comfy shoes. I didn't take a scarf as I don't like wearing them.
Different people perceive cold differently, so some may need to wrap up good and proper, while others are fine with just jeans, a sweater and a good coat. ;D
It's funny how some people just don't feel the cold as much as others. I'll be wrapped up so much people will be wondering where the ski slope is lol.
I'm very averse to heat myself, I "overheat" easily, so winter is generally the time I'm at my best and as such probably dress lighter than most would. :) Unless I expect to stand still a long time in the cold (like waiting for a parade or dreams) then I'll wrap up, but otherwise a pair of jeans, a warm sweater and a winter coat will do just fine. ;D
I have been in the winter and dress as people have suggested. jeans, jumper and a coat. I would suggest getting a good quality waterproof coat and waterproof walking shoes/boots. We got out kids ski suits, only second-hand ones from ebay but worth every penny
I also feel the heat more than the cold, hence I don't need many layers in DLP in winter. Job wise I'm a secretary and have my own room. I often have a window open during cooler weather as I'm hot and people coming in comment on how cold my room is.
The biggest advantage of my own job, I work in a lab for a pharmaceutical company and the AC is set to a nice and stable 21 degrees Celcius. ;D
When I went last November I wore tights under my jeans, a t-shirt, jumper and coat and also hat, gloves, scarf. I so wore socks over my tights! I wore both ankle boots and trainers as the weather was dry these proved to be fine.
I took a ski jacket but didn't use it once and I really feel the cold! The sun was quite powerful so most days walking a lot and wrapped up under layers I found I got quite warm and could actually make do without my hat, scarf and gloves some days.
My son and partner are always warm so they just wore socks, trainers, jeans, t-shirt and either long sleeved tops or jumpers under their coats and also their hats and gloves.
If the weather is sunny you find you can deal with the cold much better than if it's also belting down with rain!
We went in December and me and my husband wore jeans/leggings, jumpers, fleece or coat, hats, scarves and gloves.
Our children wore normal clothes (with vests) and salopettes and ski type jackets. Plus hats, gloves and snow boots.
We live on the continent so used to cold weather but lidl is good for cheap winter stuff. I prefer separates for the kids so they can the jackets off easily when we go in places and it it's warmer take the salopettes off. They are also good if the seats on rides are wet.
Our feet were cold and EMH was chilly but it wasn't that bad as he park is built up so it's not windy. We drank hot chocolates and popped into shops when we wanted to warm up.
Don't take Wellies! That would be my top tip. I bought snow boots for the kids for our February trip, I wore my waterproof walking boots. None of these were top of the range stuff, the kids were fro Next and mine were about £30 3 years ago from Go Outdoors. But they were a god send. Teamed with some good quality socks, you'll not go far wrong here. Just make sure you're not wearing them for the first time at Disney, you may want to wear them in a bit first. I also bought some waterproof trousers from Amazon for the kids. They were about £9 each. It had rained continuously for about 2 months prior to our visit so I thought i'd by these trousers to put in the back pack and throw on the kids should the heavens open. It didn't incidentally, and the trousers have never been worn so I'm hoping they'll still fit when we go to DLRP next February!
I don't think you'll need to buy a special coat for the trip, we just wore our normal winter coats with many layers underneath. But you may benefit from investing in good quality gloves for everyone, because you could spend a lot of time standing still in queues and you'll likely get cold.
So most important are boots, socks and gloves in my opinion x
Lots of good advice already. We'd just like to reiterate , wear warm footwear, preferably boots. Also multiple layers so you can add/remove things as the temperature changes, or you go inside for a drink.

i have been in Dec and Nov a few years ago now and when we went in November it was just really wet, so take plenty of extra clothing as we ended up changing 2 or 3 times throughout the day, there's nothing worse than being wet and cold. when we visited in the December i took ski suits for the children and really glad cos it was so cold the waterfalls around the rides where frozen solid we also had to double up on socks and gloves it was that cold. on saying that my brother in law went the following year on the same December dates so i gave him my advice and told him to take plenty to wear, on his return he told me they only wore the coats in the evening as the days where nice.....sods law i guess.
i hope you have a really nice time whatever the weather is, im off in the beginning of november so i could update on weather conditions on my return. :)
