Disneyland Paris just confirmed that the ice skating ring in front of Disney's Hotel New York will be closing. Instead they're testing new activities, first of which are "quads" shaped like taxis. According to DLP they "are electric and don't provide any noise except for an light artificial sound effet to increase the speed sensation".
Rides will cost 5 euros for 5 minutes.
Thoughts?

That's sad. so sad. ::)
Why can't we have this wonderful fountain during summer and this wonderful ice rink in winter times.
Looked classy and nice all this years ago... :'(
I've never seen the skating rink in person, but its still a shame that it's going.
Guess ED are just trying to save €€€ every chance they get.
They were scrubbing and jet washing the artificial rink on Monday.
Is it staying for christmas and then being removed? Or is it going before hand?
Yeah, when is it going?
"Quad bikes" were running today.
They've partially carpeted over the artificial ice and the bike are running on that.
Sad...really sad...!
Oh no, we where hoping it would be there in October as its never been open when we where there :(
It always looked pretty but my family aren't any good at ice skating so we won't personally miss it.
The quads look fun though and I know my son would enjoy them, I wouldn't mind paying €5 for him to go on these :D
To be honest....we did not like the ice rink...we paid £90 for 9 of us so €10 each, including 3 kids age 6 and under!
We got our boots and off we went, we were all so excited....
we got on the rink and none of us could stand up!! We were given roller boots, yes inline skates, to skate on ice with, it was impossible!! I only managed to stay up as I was pushing a frame around that kids can sit on. My mother in law refused to go on as it was too dangerous, my husband fell and badly bruieed his knee but the rest of us were ok. Although we did get off after around 5 mins as it was too tricky. We thought we would get proper skates so this was a huge let down. We realized that must be why no one was on it.
maybe we were just unlucky tho. If it did stay, I wouldnt waste money on it, especially as we were a big group

It will be interesting to see what happens here in the long run. As far as I am aware underneath the ice is a map of New York which shows the World Trade Centre but its been covered over as a mark of respect since 911.

Cool. I didn't know that, so I googled it.
It's a shame they covered it up. It looks pretty.

This is horrendous and will do nothing but cheapen the look of the resort !
Its not "disney" to be introducing these tacky money grabbing gimmicks .
If I want to see this sort of thing ill head to the amuesment arcade or travelling fair . >:(
Get rid disney :'( picture attached below

Sorry but this is a really bad move for Disney, :( it gives the impression of a cheap fairground ride. I presume Disney have put this out to tender and made a heap of money for someone else to maintain and look after. :( I hope they don't put similar rides to the other Disney hotels and associate them to that hotel.......Bad impression Disney
Ewww! I dont like that at all...reminds me of a cheap fairground. If they wanted to have a racetrack they should have made it cars themed and put it at the santa fe instead. The whole point of an ice rink being outside the new york with the giant christmas tree is to make it resemble times square i was led to believe...im pretty sure that go carts arent part of a new york christmas!
What a mistake to be making. At Christmas time it is a great feature to have, my kids (and adults in our party) love to go on the ice rink. They won't want to do things like quad bikes as just not Disney, esp outside the hotels even if they will be like the theme.

I thought it was meant to be The Rockerfeller centre, either way you're right. No go carts screaming round a New York Christmas.
Yeah you can find these in most amusement arcades and all over every sea front in the uk!
I never used the rink but it made for a beautiful setting over the winter months.
We only ventured over to the HNY in Feb for the first time, to see the ice skating, although at 10-15Euros each we didn't partake in the end. It looked good though, I thought, and it would be a shame to lose this feature.
Where's the petition to sign??
Last time I was there, I went in those giant inflatable (zorb?) balls! quite fun, but undeniably cheapens Disney.... i thought they replaced the 'real' ice rink a few years back with that plastic ice stuff?
