Title: Booked a holiday to disney and now found out i am pregnant !
Post by: lovindisney87 on August 26, 2013, 02:21:18 PM
Hi,
I booked a holiday to Disneyland Paris for me, my husband and 2 girls who will be 9 and 5 when we go. I have just found out i am pregnant again, only early at the moment, but by the time we go  in January 2014 i will be about 28 weeks pregnant (all going well [-o< ). It was booked well in advance due to offers and my husband will turn 30 whilst we are there so there was good reasons for it, so really dont want to have to cancel if i dont need to as will be a while after this one arrives before we go again. But i am worried about getting travel insurance and traveling, Also unsure as to what the experience is going to be like being pregnant, we have been twice before but not whilst pregnant. Does anyone have any past experience of this or advice?? Anything would be much appreciated.

Hi,
I travelled to Spain on a coach whilst pregnant (30hours trip) and despite my sickness I was ok. My sister-in-law travelled to DLP whilst pregnant with twins but we went by car. She was fine however DLP did not allow her on any rides. If you are flying then you would need a doctors note to say you are fit to fly but still airlines don't like pregnant women to fly once they are 28 weeks.  My advice would be to contact insurance etc.. to find out where you stand on the issue.

Thanks very much for reply, we are traveling by eurostar, so luckily i don't have to worry about the flying. I am not expecting to go on too many rides but hopefully be a few bits i can do. Will have to contact insurers to check about insurance.
Many Thanks

I could have written your post! Congratulations.  :D  We booked back in March for a trip at the end of sept/beginning of Oct and found out the next month that I'm pregnant  :D  We decided to still go ahead with the trip because we were already planning on taking it slow because we have young daughter (she'll be nearly 20 months when we go) so for us it just means less rides I can go on. I'll be 27 weeks when we go so about the same way along as you.

Travel insurance wise- I checked at the post office and they cover up to six months of pregnancy, so around 25/26 weeks. They can cover over that but you have to phone up and I believe it's at their discretion whether they accept or not and you may have to pay for additional cover. Checked with Santander travel insurance and you're automatically covered until 28 weeks of pregnancy and between 28-35 weeks you'll need a letter from your midwife stating that you're fit to travel. I assume other places might offer similar but we're happy with what Santander cover so we're going with them.

I think you can still have a great time, things just might need to be taken at a slightly slower pace but there's still tons to see and enjoy. Congratulations once again, and I hope you have a lovely time!

I believe that Peter Pan is a big no-no when you are that far ahead pregnant, if you have quite a tummy by then, the bars can be very tight (I'm not really a "big" girl, but I do have a tummy, lol, and didn't feel very comfortable for me, but that's just my opinion).
Also Pinocchio & Snow White have quite tight bars.

I can't find it right now but there is a PDF file online where you can see which rides you can or cannot do.
You also should be able to get this green info booklet at City Hall which is the same as the PDF file.

Congratulations!!!

I went when I was about 5 months pregnant, and I had a great time! The only bad thing we had was the weather, it was pretty much non stop rain for the 3 days we were there (and I had been planning to take lots of pictures while everyone else went on the rides....)

The hard truth is, there are very few rides Disney recommends you do... Forget about Peter Pan and the other dark rides or Pirates of the Caribbean, for example... The good news is, on the few rides you are allowed on, you don't need to queue!

When you get to DLP go first thing to City Hall (preferably with a medical certificate to say you are pregnant), and they will give you a little paper with the list of rides you are allowed in (really useful if you want to be extra careful and don't take any chances!), plus they'll explain how to use your pass to avoid any queues! I remember for instance in IASW we could just enter by the exit (it's the same in most rides), and there they even had a little bench I could sit in and wait for my turn!

You will also have access to the reserved areas for the parade and Dreams (but not many people can come with you, I think only 1 person can accompany you)

When you're there, take it easy, have lots of breaks, and just enjoy it!!

Yeah, if you get the orange EAC (which I do think you get when being pregnant) you only get to take 1 extra person with you to the exit.

Thank you very much for both your posts. I remember when i have been before they come down pretty low without being pregnant as well   I am hoping that when we go it wont be too busy as my husband will have to queue with both our girls. Luckily I remember their was plenty of places to sit so i should be fine.
Thanks again  :D

Thanks for your post and the post of the list of rides recommended, when i found out i did think i wouldnt be able to go on many but with the two older girls and like i said the reasons for booking seems silly to cancel. I doubt i would use the pass as their are four of us going but a good idea if it does become to much. The good thing is as we have already been before i have done all the rides many times. I can just enjoy watching the girls having fun, just got to keep up with them
Thanks again

Regarding the pass, when we went (in November 2010) we were there with my sister in law and her family (so 4 of them and 2 of us), and we could go together into most rides without queuing. It was only for the parade (and now for Dreams I guess) that I could only have 1 person with me.

In any case, even if you don't plan on using it, make sure you go and get it. It can come in useful!!

Could be you got a green card, never2old?

I have already been 3 times this year, have a Dream AP, and still have to go and get the card each time, because my "illness" isn't for life, so I get the orange one + 1 extra person.
The green one should be for people with a permanent illness / wheelchair? (and you can take up to 4-5 people)

Thank you. Yes, I'll definitely let you know I get on. It wasn't until someone mentioned above that I realised I can't ride Snow White, Peter Pan or Pinochicco (which I really should have realised considering how far down the bar comes!) so annoying, especially as it's my daughters first time in Disneyland so I would love to experience these things with her (and it's a small world is closed when we go!) but oh well! I'd much rather have my Christmas present baby and I anticipate I'll be taking a lot of photos while they're on all the rides!

It was pink when I was there, but it was some time ago, maybe it's changed.

In any case it was specifically for pregnant women

I'm going to DLP in 5 weeks time and will be 31 weeks pregnant, holiday was booked and paid then found out the following week we were having a surprise addition to our family (I'm sterilised so really was a surprise!!). If you want I can email you some info about how we get on when there. It's just me, my husband and my very excited 3yr old that are going. I have a friend who has been 6 times in the last few years and she has advised get a pregnancy pass for the times of day a wee seat would be of benefit. Taking a photocopy of MatB1 with me as various stories about how strict they are about issuing passes.
I'm a bit gutted that most of the rides are out, hoping I can get on the Cars spinning around ride as my son is Cars (and now Planes) crazy and has been watching videos of this on you tube so keen to go on this. Apart from that I'm just looking forward to 4 days of magic memories with my son as this will be our last family trip before baby arrives. With travel insurance I always use insureandgo. Went to the Caribbean when I was 29wks pregnant (again holiday booked and paid so no cancel option!) and their policy covered me no problem. Just had to call to advise them but no additional costs.

First time we went as a family i was 25 (if i recall correctly) weeks pregnant. I had a big belly, but besides feeling a little bit tired everything went well!
As for rides, basically i went on thoses which are toddler appropriate. We were with our (then) 3 and a half year old daughter, so we didn't do a lot of rides, but it was ok!
I also got a card from city hall, as per CM advice, and it was helpful for parades and shows - as it can get really crowded and it can be stressful and harmful because of our belly.
At the end of the day we would sometimes get the shuttle or the little train (payed) back to the hotel - we were staying at the Newport Bay - to avoid the walk back.
One advice i can give is to request a room near hotel entrance and breakfast area. We were at the end of one wing and i had to walk a great deal to get to breakfast and to leave the hotel... if possible to avoid, great! And really i like walking, but to walk back to the room at the end of the day, already tired and with a backache was too much! :)

But the best thing is... we were there when i was pregnant with our youngster, eldest was 3 and a half. Then we returned when baby was 20 months old and eldest was 5 and a half... and we will return now, to celebrate the big one's 7th birthday and little one will be 3 and a half... It's so good to see them grow this way!! :) It's really wonderful!

Ah thats brilliant, we are staying at the cheyenne so its a bit further away, but from the videos on you tube i have been watching it looks pretty quiet in january so the buses may be quieter so may take those if the walking gets too much. I am not really bothered about the rides as will try book another one for a couple of years time and with an extra little person we can do all those rides.  ;)

Travel insurance wont be a problem most cover you upto 32 weeks. I have been at 28 weeks and 26 weeks pregnant and had no trouble with travel insurance. If it reassures you my midwife told me should anything happen France has excellent maternity care. Just be sure to take your maternity notes just incase you do need any medical care.

You will also get an easy access card saving you from queing for the rides you can go on but they will only let you take 1 of your children with you which I find spoils a family holiday.

Thank you very much for your reply thats really good to know as was a bit worried about the insurance. didnt think about taking my notes with me will have to put that on my list.
Only being able to take one child with the easy access card is a bit rubbish, as we would all like to go together, will just hope i am not huge then so can get in the queue areas  ;D

Hello, I have just joined this site  :)

We are going in just over 2 weeks for the 1st time to DLP, myself, hubby & DS, whose 3. I will be 25 weeks pregnant when we get there.

In order to get the facility pass is a copy of my MATB1 sufficient?

Many thanks

If your belly is showing i don't think you will need further proof. If not just take that with you (i assume its a medical document stating you are pregnant with pregnancy info).. And have fun! :)

Thanks for your reply.

As much as I will be 25 weeks when we go you cannot really tell im pregnant to be honest! There is a bump but not a big one  :D

The Matb1 is a Maternity Certificate given by the midwife after 20 weeks pregnancy, its handwritten & has my expected week of birth on etc. I will take this with me, as if I get a letter from the doctors its going to cost £12-£15!

Thanks again, we cannot wait  ;D

Same has happened with me.  I'll be going in Feb at 30 weeks.  I phoned my travel insurance and they said I didn't have to tell them as long as it wasn't in the last 8 weeks or I had been advised not to travel.  The journey is no worse than I've been doing on my commute to London with work.  I'm just planning on lots of sit down times :-)  Will take a copy of my Mat B and also my exemption card on it as that says it's for maternity.

My theory is I've been lots of times before and I know I'll go lots of times again, so will just accept I won't get to do everything this time round :-)

Congratulations and have a great trip  :)

Very true smudgepuss.  So many people think it's just to cover when you're there, it's to protect your booking as well.  Ours was only £15 for family of 3 for 5 days and that was with extra medical cover.
I told the Midwife yesterday I'd be going on holiday a 30weeks and she said she could do me a letter if I need one, (might get that for the pass anyway) and that I'd have a lovely time!

Here in Portugal we have a "Pregnant Book", its a small green book where the doctor writes down our due date, TA, blood analysis results, etc... We don't have midwifes here, and we're followed by private doctors and/or nurses, from local hospital or health center.
Insurance is very important as we don't know what might happen, especially if we book months in advance!

To what it's worth, i think if going during low season with small queus, and you don't feel "heavy" then the pregnancy pass is not very important and you can do without one (bare in mind that the bigger and more popular rides are not all suitable for pregnant women).
Unfortunatly the pass cannot save you from all the walking and it doesn't grant you imediate entrance to restaurants and hotel bus (or a seat) and that's when you feel more tired!
