Hi :)
I just stumbled upon this article on the Disney Parks Blog:
http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2 ... ive-queue/ (http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2012/09/guests-can-soon-interact-with-big-thunder-mountain-railroad-in-new-immersive-queue/%22%20target=%22_blank%22%20rel=%22nofollow)
and I'm very intrigued by this whole idea... So far those interactive queues have been installed at the winnie pooh ride, the haunted mansion and Dumbo over at WDW... and Big Thunder Mountain is next...
My hopes are very high that they make their to DLP as well, because in my oppinion there is nothing more stressful than to stand 2 hours in line with nothing to do other than listen to conversations of other people or play with your phone :D . Those Improvements are very important especially for E-Ticket rides, i think.
What do you guys think? Would they disturb the atmosphere? Or would they improve the experience?
Share your thoughts! :)
Seems that the link doesn't work as it should, it leds to an article about 2,5 million pounds of disney turkey drumstickes ;-)
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
I'm sorry
Now it's the right link :)
I think it would be a good idea to have something at the attractions to keep guest entertained in the long queues. Whilst queuing to see Mickey Mouse they have cartoons playing both in English and French but the time passed by quickly due to having something to keep the children especially entertained. We were also discussing this as a family when queuing for Buzz Lightyear, even if it's just simple cartoons.
Yeah I agree. the shorts at Meet Mickey really are a nice touch and they shorten the wait time... :) and they could do something with buzz lightyear too...
I think interactive queues are a good idea for certain rides. I'm rather interested in how they'll be doing the Thunder Mountain one in WDW.
Rides like Phantom Manor on the other hand... well, it would ruin the atmosphere. The area is meant to be quiet and subtle ad creepy. But hey if they want to put in the original Carriage House idea for its queue then that would be amazing!
But as I said, with certain other rides an interactive queue would be a plus.

Be fair, in Buzz's queue there's an awesome animatronic!
Interactive queues, as seen on youtube, look pretty noisy and cheap, imho.

Right Sorry^^ :o I forgot... but that's only a small portion of the queue unlike meet mickey... but i understand that you have to take care of each attraction idividually because it would be boring if all of them just would be playing shorts^^ ... As for noisy and cheap... I think it depends... It is really a matter of taste. For example the new dumbo queue at WDW has great theming I think... and since it is aimed at children in the first place... such a play area seems like a fine choice to me... same for the winnie pooh ride...
But at the Haunted Mansion I'm more sceptical... Like "Ezra" said before... it could easily ruin the atmosphere... and for BTM i didn't see anything yet... but some could think the same...
At BTM at MK it's gonna be things like sticks of dynamite and TNT plungers that you can push/pull and it will set off effects in the the main mountain - makes things move, smoke, sound effects etc. I agree about the HM queue elements, they would be rather out of place in the PM queue as HM is much more jovial than PM with its Grim Grinning Ghosts theme, it's not meant to be as scary. I do think interactive queues are a good idea though should they be done well, it's all about enhancing the guest experience so why not make the queuing area more enjoyable?

Personally I think they're a waste of money, they won't increase the number of visitors to the resort and that's what DLP need at the moment if they are ever to shift the debt.
Here is a new video on the interactive queue at Big Thunder Mountain

That's one part of it, but making the experience as good as possible when people are there is the other part, and will ensure they get those people to book again.
Word of mouth will also be far more effective if people return from their holidays saying things like 'the queues were quite long but there was stuff going on which made the time go quickly and was fun' rather than 'the queues were long and boring'.
I wouldn't say they are are top priority for DLP but they would be a welcome addition.
The new Dumbo queue system at the Magic Kingdom is interesting though.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsJaLrKBTj4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsJaLrKBTj4%22%20target=%22_blank%22%20rel=%22nofollow)
I've got an idea for BTM and PM, I'll post them on another thread.
Here's an interesting article in part related to interactive queues ;)
