So, I havn't comprehensively read about this but it does sound like an amazing concept. Apparently, you get a physical Disney character 'figure' and that then translates as it were to the screen and you get to go on rides etc at various Disney parks, amongst other things!
Is that right?

Looks kind of like Skylanders and I always thought that that was a rip off.

Disney Infinity is not about recreating park experiences on the screen, the tokens (the character figures) are brought to life in a toy box like setting in the game. Based on their respective movies. The concept is (very much) the same as the Skylanders games. I do hope Disney Infinity going to be worth it's money, I didn't feel like the Skylanders game was. (then again: I won that game, so no problems there for me.) I think Disney Infinity can become a serious thread to Skylanders, they have the rights to so many populair characters. And their take on the formula seems more fun than Skylander's.
I really want this game but I wish it was cheaper than it is.
