High School Musical On Tour
16th June to 26th August 2007 (now announced to continue till 30th September)

Quote from: "WDSfans.com"More changes are coming to Walt Disney Studios Park, this time in the form of a replacement. Starring Cruella De Ville, a show that has been running two summers on a row, is being exchanged for a show based on the popular Disney Channel movie High School Musical.

No details are know yet, but it'll most likely resemble the current shows at Disney's California Adventure Park and Disney-MGM Studios Park. Rumours suggest that the Starring Cruella De Ville platforms will be rebuild for this new spectacle.

High School Musical will be performed during the Summer Season from 16 June to 26 August 2007.

I feel like I should watch the film now... hmm, maybe not. :P

Even though it's a shame we have to loose Cruella, I'm actually quite impressed at DLRP for sorting this so soon.  They seem to be whispering behind our backs with the US resorts a lot since Holz arrived, and so far it's all good.

I like the "new-ness" of HSM, the fact it might make the Disney Channel seem a bit more worthwhile in Production Courtyard and the very very American theme is nice for a change too, since DLRP often tiptoe around seeming too American. They can't escape it with this one!

Also, whilst Cruella was an "oh, that was actually pretty cool!" kinda show with guests, this should be more the "cool, we've gotta see that!" kinda show... if you see what I mean.  More like Catch the Wave Party than CinéFolies, with guests at least.

Oh - the only thing that does bother me: american accents.  The "hey, we're film directors from california" thing from Lilo & Stitch never really works... can they manage high school kids?

I Sky+'d the movie over xmas, and started to watch then gave up..... Its good it's coming to WDS, but im with you Baloo, Europeans pretending to be American, if it works its great, but when its bad, its really bad!

Yeah told you so! If I still work in the Studios as a Guest Flow this summer, i'll be happier to be on High School than Cruella I can tell you that ^^! Great!

o_o; OMG, why?

D= :( If you've seen that film, you'll know that it's scary. Not scary as in spiders or anything like that, but scary as in a child with sticky fingers coming to hug you. It's so in your face, but in a bad way. :? I don't think they should replace Cruella with something that's only a current obsession, which will eventually die out.

When High school musical first came out, i loved it and then my friends started to say how cheesy it was and then i watched it again for like my 10th time and i watched it carefully and then i realised its not as good as i use to think !

So Masamune you were right its going to die out !

Were you expexting to see CASABLANCA of GONE WITH THE WIND when sticking the High School DVD in your player? I take it for waht it is: pure FUN! The acting is lame, the directing is lame, BUT the musical numbers and the songs are bloody catchy and I just want to sing along and dance with them. So I think the show will bring a lot of energy in the park! It's gonna be quite bouncy around Prod. Courtyard this summer (Catch the Wave + High School = Great Fun!)

I dont think its going to die out just yet. The sequel is being broadcast this summer, and part three is already in pre production. Disney see it as "Fame" for this generation...

 Yay!

Seriously though, I don't watch Disney films to see poor OTT acting and scary vocals, and I certainly don't go to DLRP for that. :o I just hope it's gone before it gets really old, and before everyone is fed up of WildCats everywhere. *Sadly remembers some of the song lyrics*

From what i've heard, they're making a HSM 2 and 3 so it could be staying around for quite a while! :?
Title:
Post by: Anthony on January 28, 2007, 03:52:39 PM
Well, it's only running for 2 and a half months, and then it'll be gone.  They might not bring it back again in 2008 - who knows. :)

I think Kinou's point says a lot - people are obviously looking for a something to do with HSM, and this'll be their answer.  They promote the film a lot on the resort TV channel, before LOTLK, etc. so it seems right they have this show, for one year at least.

I'm looking forward to seeing how popular it'll be.  I don't really care about the show, just want to see the audience reaction...

Very interesting move, this coming from a person who visited a disney store yesterday and literally ran out of it when I saw so much power rangers rubbish for sale and heard that they were playing HSM  .  I am not going to go expecting amazingness, just like I expected with the movie really.  The show seems very fun and American.  Suppose who doesn't like corny American rubbish  .  So in terms of the strategy it will work very well if it has been taken in as popular in mainland Europe, as it has here in England.  Overall I am actually looking forward to this mini show arriving, au revoir cruella   :( .

Oh My God! I've just read through the thread! My 12 year old is obsessed with HSM! And we are hoping to go around 17th June!! We'll have to go and watch it!!!!!!! (Notice more and more exclamation marks-a sign of my stress) Maybe I can deny all knowledge of where and when it will be performed......  Yes, its very cheesy and American and fun to watch a few times, but when you hear it blasting from your daughters room or you see the adverts ALL the time when you switch Disney Channel on, it gets a bit annoying-neh a LOT annoying.

Daughter has just read this over my shoulder-is now yelling like a maniac. HELP ME!

That actually, doesnt look that bad. I think I can survive that and, I must remember, this is my daughters holiday too (oh and my son and hubby-I do tend to forget there are other people to think about on these holidays!) and it will be good to see her singing along and maybe, just maybe, being not so emaressed to put her hand up to go and be a part of a show again(she was chosen to go on DLRP's 10th Birthday cake in 2002)

Its still a shame to lose Cruella.

Why couldnt they have alternated the shows on different days? Or have just one showing of Cruella a day? Or is that just getting too complicated?

high school musical is starting to get quite popular here in the Netherlands, I haven't seen it yet

I think it's a good choice, but they shouldn't run any longer than 2 years

i  have to say i hate high school musical, sorry but i just do,it's cheesy i am quite upset they are replacing someone like cruella a pure disney character, for some cheesy scary singing kids wanting to be in a talent show.  :(  :(  disney is about cartoons, and i know films like potc has real people in but that is great and the quailty of that is so much greater then high school musical. i just think like masamune its freakishly cheesyly scary
Title:
Post by: Kristof on April 02, 2007, 10:08:49 PM
I'll try to explain again... The preview we got at the press conference was just amazing.  The whole conference room was filled with energy, something that's missing at WDS.  And if this has to replace Cruella De Ville, yes please.  Even if I don't like the movie, this is something guests will love.

Raptor, do you know if they will build a moving stage for High School Musical, just like they did at DCA and Disney-MGM? I assume that Lilo & Stitch will return to the Production Courtyard Stage?

Post by: Kristof on April 02, 2007, 10:33:11 PM
Well Maarten, I've posted the press release for High School Musical On Tour on WDSfans a couple of minutes ago!  Here it is:

QuoteThe hottest dance moves and the biggest hit songs from one of the Disney Channel's most popular entertainment phenomenon come to life in "High School Musical On Tour", a new immersive show for teh whole family at Walt Disney Studios Park.
Debuting on a rolling outdoor stage June 16 and performing through Aug. 26, a multi-talented world of East High, a place where best friends break into elaborate musical numbers like magic.
Theme Park guests may even find themselves shooting basketball or joining in as the whole street turns into a party while great songs fill the air.Performed in several languages, it's a showcase of sing-a-along fun that will invite all ages to be part of a new kind of live excitement inspired by the highest rated TV movie in Disney history.

I think it does matter if you don't like the movie. If you don't like the movie, you're not gonna want to see the show. So in that sense, it affects all those that love the Cruella DeVil show and hate what it's being replaced with.

:o Yes, I'll probably give it a fair watch when I go, but no matter how good the singing/dancing in the show is, it's not going to change the fact that I don't like the film that the show is based on.
Title:

It's not even certain HSM will replace Cruella.... C'mon people...

Let's not bash the show before it has even started (like happened for OUADP and Laser Blast...)
Title:
Post by: Masamune on April 03, 2007, 12:09:57 AM
;) I'm not bashing the show raptor, I'm bashing the movie. You have to admit, it would be hard for anyone to really love a show that's based on a movie that they can't stand. :P I'll only be able to bash the show itself if I see it for myself, and I find that it's just a live version of the film.

 Who knows? I may be pleasantly surprised. But for now, as things stand, I won't be happy if they replace Cruella's show with this.

Hehe, you just love the show for the performers :P .  Though I'm also saving my judgement for when I see it.  Also I got the new envie+ magazine today and there is no sign of cruella returning.  The back of the magazine has a timeline of shows and attractions being performed and such.

I for one think its a fantastic idea. Cant stand teh movie myself, but on a recent visit to teh resort, all I got for 4 days of my niece and nephew was would they see the guys from High School Musical!

I think it would be a great hit. The more interactive the better

Well it IS certain that HSM will replace Cruella. We (at Guest Flow) had the schedule for this summer and Cruella is not on it. Catch the Wave is returning.

 As I said earlier raptor, no one's bashing the show. We're bashing the film. It could be the greatest show ever for all I know, but that won't change my opinion on the film. :o The only reason I'm giving the show a chance is because I want to be able to give an honest opinion on it.
Title:
Post by: tubbsy on April 09, 2007, 06:54:20 AM
When I first read there was going ot be a show I joked because Steph loved watching it, but just lately even she is sick of hearing it over and over again on the Disney channels.

She has said tho tht if could make DLRP to see the show (which I very much doubt  ) sh'd love to see it.

The thing is, a lot of the shows are all aimed at younger audiences so it will be great to see something for the older kids to watch and join in.
Title: HSM Cast
Post by: TowMater on April 12, 2007, 03:39:31 PM
If WDS as the HSM cast to join then this will be more better than the movie! You Know the cast teaching some kids how to dance like them.  :D

If they do perform this show then here will be the cast:

Zac Effron
Vanessa Hudgens
Ashley Tisdale
Lucas Grabeel
Corbin Bleu
Monquie Coleman

Too bad they can't perform because they'll be on tour again in the summer.  :(

I think it is great that they are keeping the studios up-to-date and having a High School Musical Show.  My kids are 4 and love it!  This is our third year in a row going with the kids and it is great to see another show rather than the Lilo one everytime.  The Lilo show is fab but something different to keep the experience fresh is brilliant. :minnie:

We were in the states when it came out on the Disney channel and I love this movie. Our 9 year old daughter likes it as well
I can't wait to see the show at the studios this summer. We know all the words to the songs. If only they had Zac Efron (Troy Bolton star of the show) here. It is very popular in the states.

Which one what will be the most popular?

There is no Disney store near me that I know of in Germany to see what they have. We just have the movie, Karoke CD, & music CD that we either bought in the states or online.
I seriously doubt any of the movie "stars" will be there. Just the DLP castmembers performing it. Still I can't wait to see it.
My cheerleading girls love the "We're All In This Together" song for dancing!!!
I just love Zac in the movie he is soooo cute & sweet!

We have just returned and the show was brilliant.  It starts near Rock N Roller and proceeds through the park.  The music was catchy, dancers energetic and involved the kids throwing basketballs.  I would recommend and we loved it. Go Wildcats Go!! :minnie:

Just returned and absolutely loved it!! I dragged my family to the show at least 6 times over the 3 days we were there and we taped it so I can watch it any time. I was probably the only adult doing the dance and singing loudly (and badly  ) each time. We would watch it at Rockin Roller Coaster then run down to the next show across from Lilo & Stitch's Catch the wave party. The kids got a kick out of the ribbons floating into the air onto the guys working on the TOT. The cast members really seemed to like & appreciate me dancing with them as I got big smiles from some of the cute wildcat guys  I'm lucky my hubby is such a great guy and supports my Disney need. I do have the say the poms the first day we saw the show (Sunday) were awful but the poms yesturday (Tuesday) were nice & shiny. I could not convince my family to watch it one more time before we left today though  There's always next month!

:) I hated it. It was the same tacky, disturbing scenes that I expected to see as soon as I found out that a show was being made that was based on that horrid film. :o Yes, the dancers were good...but then, when you consider what they were dancing to, I found it hard to enjoy it. The singing gave me a headache, and it left a generally unpleasant taste in my mouth.

 You guys knew this was coming. At least I gave it a chance. But despite how enthusiastic and talented the dancers were, there was no getting away from the fact that they were representing possibly the worse thing that Disney has ever been associated with.

;) My mum loved it at least.

 All I was thinking was "I hope mum doesn't waste any film by taking pictures of this". I think she only ended up taking a couple of pictures. One of the dancers looked like Peter Crouch (a footballer), which was quite weird.

I don't think it fits in with the studios either. Yes, it's great for fans of the film and people who are easily entertained (like my mum), but I think the Cruella show was a lot more universal. Bring back the Cruella show!

Maybe that's why or maybe he had a drink of beer and got drunk backstage before the performance.

We saw it five times this last trip and loved it - far more than Cruella or Stitch or indeed many other offerings.  My 4 y. o . and I even joined in the show to do the dance.  Loved it, but then again, I also love the movie.

Good news for the HSM On Tour fans:

Quote from: "WDSfans"High School Musical on Tour will be extended by popular demand for at least another month, until September 30th.  The show performances will be reduced to 5 times a week (previously 7 days) and 4 shows a day (previously 5).

Oh, so we could watch it, too... but I guess that wouldn't make sense if I haven't seen the film?!

Why don't they extend the Tarzan Encounter??!

:pluto: We cannot go until next Easter because of work and I'm afraid that we will miss it much to the disapointment for our daugther as she loves High School Musical. But we are going to see if we can get tickets to see High School Musical On Ice in January as the tour will be in Manchester

No surprise, but great news all the same. Apparently they're pushing it much stronger in brochures for next year too, since it was such a hit this year.

Which brochure was this by the way? Did it have any exact dates? :)

Are they planning an update for High School Musical like they did in the US? I guess it would be a wise move to update the show to High School Musical 2.

Ok, I saw the HSM parade when I went a few weeks ago (9th - 12th Sept) and I thought it was awful.
Im a huge fan of the films but I thought the singing was terrible, especially the male lead. He was out of tune the whole time and sometimes screeched his words!
If I was going back anytime soon and it was still around I wouldnt watch it! The only good thing was the involvement of the little kids.

Yeah the actual singing cast is awful. Since the departure of the original singers (who where from DCA), the show is less impressive. The male lead you saw is the most awful singing I've heard on stage since a long time, can't understand why he got hired....... But the dancers are still great (some are leaving on sunday!)
