Title: Old traces of Disneyland Paris
Post by: CentralPlazaPerson on May 27, 2012, 04:05:23 PM
I'm not sure if there is already a topic on this... but here we go!

Does anyone know any traces of rides, attractions, signs, restaurants, kiosks, hotel interior or more in the resort that shouldn't be there any more or that is currently lying disused or vacant?

One comes to mind, the loading dock for the Indian Canoe boats that had a short life span. Unfortunately I never got the chance to have a go on this attraction  :(

i don't know if it's still there... but there was an "old mill" ferris wheel attraction in fantasyland which wasn't used for years... i think i read that they removed it for the 20th anniversary. but I'm not sure... ôo

So sad!! I really enjoyed the ride. You had a great view over Casey Jr. and le pays des contes...

I remember wondering why it was never open, it would have offered a beautiful view of the park and especially the castle! Shame.

I think I read somewhere that it had a slow moving queue and that may have contributed to it...

I believe an old friend of ours from le Visionarium still can be seen in Buzz Lightyear's Laser Blast. I've witnessed it from my own eyes!!

Yeah Nine Eye is living inside Buzz Lightyear, and there are rumours of the moon from Space Mountain living on inside Space Mountain Mission 2, however I've never managed to catch it with my own eyes! The Old Mill was closed as said due to poor capacity, and it's actually nice to see that they've removed the ride part now, because it just made an area of the park which is often closed anyway, look even more abandoned!

At Halloween the big skull with smoking eyes that usually sits in Frontierland (but was at the top of Main Street one year!) used to be a float in a Halloween pre-parade.

If you go on the train there is a clearing behind Indiana Jones with a Jeep/tent in it, that is a nod to the Indiana Jones dark ride which was planned but never went ahead.

Here's a tiny touch of history:

The lanterns outside Colonel Hathi's still read "EC" for "Explorers' Club", the original restaurant at this location.

not sure, but it may have been made into an asteroid (at least that would make sense)

Some things I miss and not know if they still exist are the horse-drawn cars on Main street...haven't seen any since 2007 or so.

As for really original parts is concerned, what about the Grand Canyon diorama? It has noticeably aged by now, but I still enjoy it as a part of the traditional train ride around the park

The original name Euro Disneyland is still very much present around the railroad, mostly in its name and logo (Euro Disneyland Railroad)

but also around the Main Street station, like here on top of the  clock

The horse drawn tram still operates on Main Street, I saw it when I was there on the 20th birthday. When I have seen it operating it is always in the morning!

Hi
The horse drawn trams were running on the 9th and 10th June 2012 but only until lunch time about every 5 or 10 mins or so! The horses were very cute!

There were 2 running on Sunday. I think they stop at lunch time due to the Celebration Train.

I am ALL for finding little pieces of Disney history around the park!

Many things have already been said in this thread.
Another nod to an "old name" is over in discovery land. The fastpass sign for space mountain has a "DM" on it, as a nod to the rides original name "Discovery Mountain".
Also the building next door, videopolis, has 2 LARGE circular windows potrouding from the side facing space mountain. I believe these were to be a walkway to somewhere.......never really found this one out.

While waiting for the construction of Space Mountain, the plan was to use the round windows as a secondary entrance to Videopolis. This was actually built. There was a very short-lived staircase leading up to Videopolis. When Michael Eisner saw that it was blocking the view to Star Tour, he ordered it dismantled. Two planters were built where the stairs stood, and the entryway was covered with windows.

Welcome to the Café des Visionnaires (//http://www.designingdisney.com/content/lost-treasures-discoveryland)! Or not, because these days this is a closed-off backstage area for Buzz Lightyear.

It's a shame that such a grand entrance serves no purpose. And what really makes me sad is the post that's clearly supposed to have something on top of it. You can't quite tell from this photo, but there was a bit of electric cable sticking out.

Isn't there an old Mexican adobe building in Frontierland that used to be a Pin Trading kiosk that has stood empty for years?

Agrabah Cafe still contains signs (literally) of its past as a retail area. Note that Aladdin's lamp and Genie have a different design than in the Disney movie. The movie premiered a few months after the park opening. The next year, the Aladdin walk-through attraction was built in the now-familiar movie style.

Actually they're using Pueblo Trading Post again as a Pin Trading Station since a few years. It's usually open in the weekends.

I still remember digging for gold nuggets somewhere in Frontierland, I think it was at Pueblo Trading Post. Can someone confirm that?

It's a pity this area is no longer available except for guests of the Agrabah Cafe.

Yes indeed, they used to do this at Pueblo Trading Post. Good memory!

Don't have a pic, but I think you can still see where the mail ofice in Disney Village used to be. All that is left of it is the money exhange booth, but it used to be a real office where you could buy stamps and send you letters/postcards to friends and family at home

Oh, I remember that! 20 years ago, I sent a postcard home from that same post office.
