For the beginning of winter!

Not surprised that a Lego shop will open - it makes sense and should be popular.
This is exciting, we love lego in our house.
When you say first, are there more to come?
What is the plan behind this, that Disney Village will be turned into a shopping mall type area?

That would make sense. Ikspiari in Tokyo and the DTDs in the US are operated that way. I have never understood why that didn't happen in Paris. There is no need to have so many Disney operated stores, especially when each store offers the same. The Disney restaurants are definitely not the best and I wouldn't mind to see more outside companies.

Exactly, if Disney aren't willing to expand their offerings in the Village it'll have to be down to outside companies to do so.
It was the original plan for there to be assorted shops in the village. I think it would work very well for all concerned.
Yes ! the store will close is Hollywood Pictures
And do you know for sure that it's a Lego shop?
It has been rumoured for a few years and the Downtown Disney store is being/has just been remodelled too: http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2 ... r-changes/ (http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2012/02/lego-store-at-downtown-disney-district-at-disneyland-resort-prepares-for-changes/%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)
Standard Lego shop:
Yes it's a Lego shop
While I find Disney Village a bit bland at the moment, am I alone in not wanting it to be full of shops that you can find in shopping malls back home? Seeing Starbucks and McDs round the corner is bad enough, but to see a whole row of shops that have nothing to do with Disney will kill the magic for me.
I'd rather have uninspiring Disney shops than a bunch of high street shops, but ideally I'd like Disney Village to be improved with Disney themed shops and restaurants. I can just about forgive Rainforest Cafe as it is nicely themed, even if the food is poor. Planet Hollywood I am less forgiving with as they pack people in like sardines and the food is again pretty poor.
If they can have great restaurants like Blue Lagoon and Walts in the park then there's no reason to need sub-standard chain restaurants or high street shops in Disney Village. I want to see the high quality Disney experience continue in Disney Village, not drop off for mediocrity.
I like Lego, but I can go shopping in Toys R Us when I get home, I'd rather not see a big shop of it on Holiday. I'm sure many will love it and I'm probably in the minority, but if this a start of more chain stores going in Disney Village then for it me it will really spoil it and detract from DLP as a holiday destination. We have a bunch of restaurants that sell mostly burgers, is a Lego store really the priority here?
Improve Disney Village not continue the mediocrity and mallification!
I agree that DV could be improved with Disney related restaurants and shops, because I also don't need the shops I can find everywhere.
However in recent years Disney really struggled to come up with something nice at DV. And in the US it seems to work to have outside companies in Downtown Disney. As long as Disneyland Paris can't come up with quality merchandise shops or nice restaurants with really good food, I don't mind to see outside companies.
I didn't realise Lego stores were becoming so common: Bluewater, Brighton, Cardiff, Liverpool, Milton Keynes, both London Westfields and The Trafford Centre (part of the Discovery Centre) in the UK (//http://stores.lego.com/en-US/default.aspx). No locations in France though, so it's not all about us. This will be a good move for them and for Disney will give them a very smart, modern and popular retail store. The rent on a location in somewhere like Disney Village must be astronomical.
I only find the location strange. Hollywood Pictures is bigger than World of Toys, but putting an outside retailer there in the middle means they'll have to close the doorways between those three stores. I presume Disney Fashion will stay even after World of Disney, so that leaves World of Toys (and Disney Store) needing a replacement.
There's absolutely room for more Disney-branded stores beyond World of Disney, and to be honest I'd much prefer to see this entire block bulldozed to the ground, but Lego would be the best alternative. With all their Toy Story/Pirates/Cars/Indy/Star Wars ranges it'd practically be a Disney shop anyway.

I think Lego fits perfectly into DV with all their Disney inspired products. Hopefully we will also get some nice Lego made figures like the US resorts.
Unfortunately Disney will not bulldoze DV and rebuild it, but that would definitely the best way. It looks just ugly with these balloons.
If Disney wants to keep some stores they should transform them into speciality shops, like one dedicated to pins, another one dedicated to media products, like books and DVDs.
I would like to see DV more like DTD in Orlando. There are shops, bars and restaurants of kinds of people. There's even a Harley Davidson shop. I really liked the adult oriented part, but that's not family friendly enough for DLRP. I would have never thought that Disney in Europe is more conservative than WDW.
Quote from: "Anthony"so that leaves World of Toys (and Disney Store) needing a replacement.
DTD in Orlando still has Once Upon a Toy, a Disney owned store specialising in Toys (sprisingly). Like Dagobert said - if they've to keep these stores make them specialist stores. Last time I was in World of Toys it stocked everything and anything, like most stores around the Resort. Persoanally I'd love to see a Pin or any other store dedicated purely to one type of product.
I agree, I'd prefer different Disney shops, Lego kinda fits as they have a lot of Disney theme sets. I would personally love a pin shop.... There's definitely too much of the same merchandise in the shops but I think too many 'outsider' companies ruins the vibe for me
Even if I like the idea of a Lego store, I agree that DLPD should pay attention that Disney Village does not become a common shopping street. We have a Mc Donalds, a Starbucks and god knows what we will see in all the stores when the World of Disney store opens its gates. When I'm going to DLP, I want to leave the reality for a few days, but Mc Donalds and Starbucks always remind me of the crowded train station I see every day when going to university. These aren't the best feelings to enter a Disney Park :/ I don't know, but Disney Village more and more becomes an alien element in my opinion. I like the parks (of course :D ), I like Lake Disney and the Disney Hotels, but Disney Village just feels too "normal", not Disney...
Although I would also like to see a Disney Village based on Disney, I don't have a problem with companies like Lego invading it. We complain about the Disney merchandise and food quality for many years now and it's not improving, that's why I like that Starbucks or EoS were brought to DV. There I get products which are worth the money. McDonalds is a different story. Disney's merchandise isn't that special anymore and each store sells the same stuff. So as long as there isn't more variety, I don't need five stores selling the same stuff. One big shop like WoDS is enough. Of course I don't want to see a H&M or something like that in DV.
Nobody complains about both DTDs in the US where regular stores have opened. I really liked DTD at WDW with the shops and restaurants aimed towards adults. In my opinion DV needs a few more bars and restaurants, especially when the parks close early.
I don't know if it's connected, but as someone else mentioned they are now selling Star Wars and Toy Story lego in park boutiques (Legends of Hollywood and Thunder Mesa Mercantile respectively, perhaps amongst others).
Amongst all the other merchandise it looks very nice. And I don't think Lego is a regular "every day" kind of shop like McDonald's and Starbucks anyway, especially if they decorated it like the Downtown Disney locations with special models. Walking through the Village recently I found the amount of "Disney" a slight overkill. Disney store, gallery, fashion... I can imagine a lot of people arrive at DLP and feel overwhelmed and a bit uneasy with that.
I was thinking: and if inside the Store will be a Sleeping Beauty Castle made with lego bricks? And also Lego versions of Big Thunder Mountain, Phantom Manor, Space Mountain, and even the whole Main Street? I will be very happy with that!
It might be worth keeping an eye on this website for any hint of Lego expanding into France: http://jobsatlego.com (http://jobsatlego.com"%20onclick="window.open(this.href);return%20false;) Nothing yet, although they've just posted a store manager position for a new Lego store in Manchester Arndale, apparently opening late August 2011, so they're still expanding the stores slowly. It's rather odd they have no presence in France whatsoever.
Also, my new favourite job title: Brick Specialist http://jobsatlego.com/anaheim/retail/jo ... aheim-jobs (http://jobsatlego.com/anaheim/retail/jobid2288788-brick-specialist-anaheim-jobs%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)
This is surprising considering Merlin own the rights to a lot of lego stuff.
Actually, Merlin own very little when it comes to LEGO, due to their contract they have to stock rival brands in their parks (Pirates of the Carribean, Star Wars, Harry Potter) and any park developments have to be ok'd by the LEGO company. They basically just pay for rights to use the LEGO name at the parks, if LEGO ever doesn't like something they have the rights to pull it from the parks.
@Magic__Live just confirmed the LEGO Store rumour:
- "Disney Store will soon change its concept. It will open only afternoons and evenings and will become a children's shop, ft. Cars, Toy Story"
- "Also the 'new' Disney Store will feature an all year round Christmas section! Soon in Disney Village!"
- "Finally, World of Toys and Hollywood pictures will disappear and make place for ... A Lego Shop! Planned for end of this year!"
- "And one more scoop: the old Hurricanes building will be used as a temporary Castmember restaurant, opening end of this month."
Quote"Disney Store will soon change its concept. It will open only afternoons and evenings and will become a children's shop, ft. Cars, Toy Story"
I don't quite understand this, it's cutting operating hours and changing in to World of Toys?
Quote"Also the 'new' Disney Store will feature an all year round Christmas section! Soon in Disney Village!"
Not really needed and a waste of retail space, I'm sure there's other ideas that could make 10x more money than a Christmas shop.
Quote"Finally, World of Toys and Hollywood pictures will disappear and make place for ... A Lego Shop! Planned for end of this year!"
Yay!
Quote"And one more scoop: the old Hurricanes building will be used as a temporary Castmember restaurant, opening end of this month."
Again, what is this!? This doesn't sounds like a company that wants to make money, they are wasting valuable retail space. I can just see guests trying to get in and then being turned away. .

Christmas shops are very popular and good money makers. I can see it working well, as you can't really pop in to buy something at near Christmas, so will buy on your trip to make sure you don't miss out.
Good news that the LEGO unit will actually be pretty expansive! I'm hoping they renovate the entire facade too to bring it in line with the other LEGO stores. They could even strip out a tower and fill it with a LEGO scene!
As for the Hurricanes/Cast Member thing, that is just a temporary fix I'd assume. So it shows they at least are aware of the wasted space and are most likely looking into using it for something on a bigger scale.
Of course Christmas Shops are popular, I'm not saying they aren't. I'm just saying that space could be better used when you can buy Christmas products in The Disney Gallery and in Disneyland Park.
Quote from: "15MagicalYears"Again, what is this!? This doesn't sounds like a company that wants to make money, they are wasting valuable retail space. I can just see guests trying to get in and then being turned away. .
To be fair, the hurricanes site isn't very appealing. "Hi, would you like to have a new shop right at the end of the Village on the second floor of a building that was formally owned by a nightclub that was so unpopular that it closed down." :)
As for the Lego store, I can imagine it being quite popular. :D
Is "Fashion Disney" going to replaced too?? I hope not!!! There should be more stuff for adults anyway!!!
No. They've just finished refurbishing it. :)
im very excited about the disney shop selling christmas items all year round i love getting disney decorations and managed to get some last eyar when i was there at the begining of november but i do not know when i would be able to get back tto disneyland for the chrsitmas season so that is perfect for me thanks disneyland :)
I'm surprised at how many people are giving their tumbs up to this Lego store.... I agree with the chap on the other page, keep the high street stores out of the Village, otherwise it becomes an everyday high street...
But in saying that (and I said the same about Starbucks), if they can make this store different to their high street stores, and be very 'Disney' orientated, then there wont be such an issue.
I also like the idea of the Lego models of the Castle and rides :)
I've got no issues with it in Village, based purely on the Orlando store. They've gone to a lot of effort to make the exterior feel 'Disney', and even the interior has some cool touches. Yes it's just a LEGO store, but the setting certainly fits in at Downtown!
If the Paris store is of the same quality, I can see it being a really nice addition to the Village. Plus if you look at the two American Downtowns, they're full of other shops, which are all picked and fit their enviroment (although I'd say the Orlando ones don't 'fit' atm due to the whole area being in an odd transitional stage!)
The only thing is, this is going to be the first proper retail store thats not Disney, so aren't Disney worried that people spending money in the Lego will result in less being spent in the Disney stores?
From my point of view, and as much as I love playing with Lego, I'm just too old to buy it again. Yet I feel I'm still young enough to buy pretty much anything in the Disney Stores. I guess its all about the kids though.

I agree on your view, in Orlando it really fits the look and feel of Downtown.
Also DV can use some quality stores and dining to attract people and keep them occupied (read spending money) longer :D
I think a LEGO store will be a nice addition to Disney Village.
They are selling LEGO playsets in various boutiques around the resort anyway, why not create an extra shop where you can find all the LEGO products?
I also feel this could be a great marketing opportunity for boys toys. In my opinion a lot of the souvenirs around the resort are more suited for girls, whereas a LEGO store would be great for boys.
:) @DLRPToday "Recruitment ad confirms LEGO store in Disney Village, Disneyland Paris; will be "largest LEGO retail outlet in Europe" - http://www.mercuriurval.com/fr/Countrie ... /?ad=20284 (http://www.mercuriurval.com/fr/Countries/France/Candidats/Annonce/?ad=20284%22%20target=%22_blank%22%20rel=%22nofollow).
Great news, Disney Village really needs some diversity. I hope they will continue improving the shops and themes in the Disney Village.
The only question now is where will it come??
I hope they don't demolish the new christmas store but well I think we just have to wait and see.
It's rumoured to be installed where the current Hollywood Pictures is located, but I don't think that space would make it the largest in Europe... :-k
Well if they take the world of toys store with it they could be I guess?

Hollywood Pictures is probably deceptively big compared to a standard mall unit. It's wider than the kind of units Lego seem to take for their standard stores and we don't know what kind of storeroom space is backstage which could be incorporated. With World of Toys knocked through (that store surely has to be on the way out?), it gives a pretty big space.
Example Manchester store:
I wonder whether this would be a regular "LEGO Store" or a "LEGO Imagination Centre" like the existing Downtown Disney locations? (ie something a bit bigger with more display models etc)
If they do build it there, the removal of that candy cane covered part of the Village seems less likely... I'm sure I read somewhere that World of Disney was the new architectural direction they were going for? :-k
Any news on this project???

I've been away from the forum for a long time so I am gradually reading through threads and this one caught my eye.
Helping to fill the gap of Disney, we have acquired Merlin passes and we have been to Legoland Windsor over 30 times now. (I can probably spot the flaws in Legoland like regulars of DLP can! )
The thing is-is this shop owned by Disney? Who will purchase the goods to stock the shop? Or will it be Lego?
I am asking this because-although we love Legoland (and other Merlin parks, but not as much as Disney ;) ) The stores are ... well... really badly stocked. Forget duplication of stock through the park (There are only a few shops) There just isnt the merchandise on the shelves. It can be really depresssing seeing a few POTC boxes spread over a HUGE shelving area and as for the Star Wars stock - its allocated a whole corner, yet it could probably just fill four shelves.
I am hoping that, whoever will be overseeing the shop keeps its well and truly stocked to the rafters.
I've just thought of another downside.... If my son purchases any Lego whilst in DLP, he will not be opening it until we get home. I REALLY dont want to be stepping on Lego in the middle of the night in a hotel room! :P
when we went a few months ago shelves were packed and the range was great, especially in WOD store - happy shopping x
Hi, just came across this information in the Newsletter from the Shareholder's Club about the LEGO Store:
"Europe's Largest LEGO® STORE opens at Disneyland® Paris
Disney® Village will soon welcome the largest LEGO® Store in Europe. Covering around 600 m², the store will also offer a playground and creative experiences for families and LEGO fans.
Throughout the year, visitors will discover exclusive products and a special wall, Pick a Brick, that lets visitors choose and buy bulk LEGO® elements in a rainbow of colors and shapes. The LEGO® Saloon, a creative play area at the heart of the concept, will welcome kids of all ages while LEGO®-Expo will present outstanding creations.
The new concept store is a great example of current efforts to reconsider the Disney Village offer by working with brands that logically fit with Disneyland Paris' world.
Disneyland Paris and LEGO® share values such as creativity, imagination stimulation, learning through play, quality and hospitality. All of this makes the new concept store a considerab le asset for our destination.
Further information shortly"
Well, as a LEGO-fan as well, I'm looking forward to it. :D

What a great idea, I love the sound of this. We are going to legoland in October, not really looking forward to it as no where will ever top Disneyland but already been this year
Really hoping this will be open when I visit in November as my son loves Lego so there are bound to be some good Christmas gift ideas in here! So far the DLP brochure simply states "opening Autumn" so it will be interesting to see when it will actually open its doors.

It should be, this isn't on Disney's dime and commercial shop fitting is normally only a few weeks.
This is great news. I have a lego mad 10 year old who would love to combine a visit to a lego store with his Disney trip.
We came back from LEGOLAND a few days ago, and to be honest we were not looking forward to it at all. We stayed at the LEGOLAND hotel, and had 2 days in the park and I must admit it was very well themed. It was much better than expected, but the whole time we were there my partner kept saying "Its just not Disney is it!"
Wow this makes my kids so happy!! i am going in March 2014, do you think it will be open by then?
Definitely as the brochures say opening Autumn 2013! If there is a delay I imagine it would still open no later than Winter 2013.
OMG!!!!!! I am so excited the only problem being that it will be a nightmare trying to get the LEGo home in my handluggage on Ryanair
I feel so mean! There was Lego in the shops when we were there a couple of weeks ago, but we told our 10 year old "No!" I could just imagine him opening it in the hotel room when I was having a shower and me stepping on a piece!
But I am sure we will have to make a visit to the store when we are nex there.
We have Merlin passes and have been to Legoland about 30 times-Nope, its definately not Disney!
I just got an email from the Shareholders Club, they're organizing a private opening of the store for members on Saturday 28/09, from 9 to 11.
It will include a talk from the store director, and activities for children....
Maybe after 11 it will be open to everyone?
In any case, LEGO store opening in the DV by end of September :D/

Yay! Just in time for me being there on the 10th of October
Sad news involving the opening of the LEGO Store. The opening on 27 September has been delayed due to an incident during which the ceiling of the store came down.
Luckily no one got hurt, but obviously there will be lots of things to fix and I'm sure a few insurance claims as well.
Probably a fake ceiling with a truss?
any news on how long it's delayed ?
it looks like the entire ceiling came down

I walked past the site yesterday, theres black sheeting up now so you can't see what's going on.
Anyone know if this store is open or when it's opening??
The LEGO store thread on the French based "Disney Central Plaza" forum suggests that the new opening date is November 25th.

Hi Again,
Following my last post, from reading the French thread today it seems that this has been postponed I think until the second week in December.

Iain
What's the latest on the lego store? Is it going to be open for xmas?
Friday morning light was on and you could see in where there is a gap in the black cloth the sealing is not up yet and when the sealing collapsed it was three weeks from opening so it seems more than three weeks away
InsideDLParis posted an update on Twitter today "Progress on LEGO store pic.twitter.com/jA7tJ3KnEz" doesn't look far away now.

We go in February, my kids are really hoping Lego store is open. Our budget might take a battering if it is though.
It'll be open for both of you. Current rumour suggests 14/15th January :)

So cool. We go im March. One of my children is a huge lego fan. Hopefully the have great offers like the lego store in Orlando. We bought some large boxes over there for unbelievable low prices.

from the daily updates on Twitter, there is no official opening date yet. There are ongoing construction issues which keep slowing down the opening.
Any more updates ?
Anyone been recently ? Has any progress been made?
Oooo Im desperate to know too! We go next Saturday and will be such a shame if we just miss it!
We go 6th feb i so hope it opens when we are there .
I get a lot of news about the park on facebook by some official and unofficial Disneyland Paris web sites, and I always read them all, but they are some weeks that there are no news about the Lego Store.
It seemed to be almost ready in december, but it hasn't opened yet and I really don't know the reason of such a long delay.
I only hope that it will open as soon as possible!!!
We're going next month and my lego mad son is hoping it will be open !

Thanks for your reply .
I'm going to Disneyland on the 12th of february. Hopefully the Lego store will be open by then.
We are there from 17th feb, I hope its open by then as my two children love lego , and they will be very upset if its not open when we visit. Does anyone know what the delay is
Leave tomorrow fingers crossed it will open when we are there .
Hi we got back yesterday and Im afraid to say it is still not open. They now have fencing up around the shop so you cant really see much. From the little we could see there were lots of ladders about and plastic film covering stuff. Hoping it will be open by the time we go back in December lol!
Update today from @InsideDLParis on Twitter
New map of Disney village now includes Lego store. Opening is expected to be late April, but this is not confirmed, the date is still subject to change
Aaaah, i was hoping it would be open next week :(
Me too! I had told my Lego mad 5 year old that we can spend his holiday money in there and go to Pizza Planet for lunch, but now it seems that both of these will not be open whilst we are there. :'(
Saw that post on Twitter yesterday. Gutted :'( it wont be open when we go in 8 day's time. My son and daughter are big Lego fan's, where hoping to get some Lego unique to Disneyland Paris. Never mind we will just have to book another trip later on in the year :D
There won't be any exclusive lego for Disneyland. There never has been.
