Eugh, I personally find these very cheap looking. Not very grand or impressive at all, though I'm sure there's a lot more to come.

Yikes! They might fit in with the period of Main Street but they look really cheap and tacky.
Tacky? Really? I guess I'm the only one who thinks they look nice. XD I can't think how they could be improved. If Main Street is going to be lit up, then these props are probably just a smaller part of the decorations.
Oh, and here's another one posted this morning:
I like them, too, and I guess there is more to come to make the street look more festive. It looks at least a lot better than the Main Street decorations after the 15th birthday.
Look how they look from a distance though, they look horrendous!
I've lived in a small town the US while studying over there and that's how the towns are decorated when there is a celebration. That's why I like it. It's much more accurate than these cheap character banners.
I totally agree, 100x better than any character banners. They are the right style, they just look very under-whelming and cheap.
I agree with you that it's underwhelming compared to the 15th birthday. Although I liked the banners back then, they were a little bit too big.
I hope there's more to come, like lampposts, but please without any characters.
I love that they inkeep with the theming, after all the atmosphere is why I go to DLP, and the white and gold theme for the 20th anniversary is a very classy decision. It could have been a lot worse.
My concern though, is that these look like plastic birthday party decor, so are they really likely to last throughout this year? I'd hate it if they started to get damaged/blown off by wind before the year is finished.
Quote from: "Teacup"these look like plastic birthday party decor, so are they really likely to last throughout this year? I'd hate it if they started to get damaged/blown off by wind before the year is finished.
That's exactly the point I was trying to make, they look like plastic home-party decorations - not grand, spectacular Disneyland decorations. I'd be surprised if they survived up until April, nevermind December .

Are they serious? Although it's just a testing, the colour looks ugly.
It's a tribute to the dedicated work of the Disney "slippery floor" cones over the years!
Perhaps this is just a base colour, and a kind of metallic gold shimmer with be applied on top?
I must say that I actually like them. Similar to the DLR and MK Halloween overlay and if anything I think some should be a bit bigger. That's what makes them look cheap.
The (currently) yellow paintwork however... hmmm! I'm sure it will work out fine in the end. So is 'Celebrates' any more than a few decorations then?
I also must admit I like them. I'm also thinking that it doesn't have to be expensive to look nice.
The word everyone is looking for is "bunting."
And the yellow is probably a primer for the gold paint that's coming up. Gold leaf artisans do the same.
The bunting I don't mind much; as long as my brain can be fooled into thinking we're still in 1910-ish America, it's fine by me. Fabric banners would work great, too. Just as long as it doesn't look like this:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3317/364 ... 26a8fe.jpg (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3317/3640628209_3b4a26a8fe.jpg%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)
Ok I will like the tacky gold bunting if they do not paint Main Street that colour. Holy moly!!!
Just figured out where I've seen that gold fabric before... Austin Powers in Goldmember:
You know that the decorations has only little to do with 'Main Street USA Celebrates' ?
Quote from: "Glstitch"You know that the decorations has only little to do with 'Main Street USA Celebrates' ?
Yes, that's if the hints of lights & "magic" are as spectacular as the brochure is making them out to be. But it's the fact that they'll look so poor during the day, anyway - I'll stop complaining now untill they've finished with the decorations as they've hardly even started
I thought someone would have posted this already - Main Street Station finally gets golden shimmer, instead of staying that horrid mustard colour :D!

I quite liked the mustard - but I'm sure the gold will appeal to others a bit more.
Can't wait to see it when it is finished!
I think it looks awful! If they do it on selected sections, such as the pillars, it will be just about ok, but any more than that, it will look very tacky!
I was under the impression it is only going to be on certain parts, but just how much will be covered is unclear to me still :P
i like the deco on mainstreeet......main street isnt our time its 1920's 1930's etc so the deco looks fine to me fits in with the timeframe...gold paint on the othe hand we'' ll have to see when finished:-)

I definately prefer this gold colour to the mustardy colour in the previous picture. Think the mustard was a little too bold for me!
The decorations are nice and do look a bit cheap, but I think they are better than character banners.

That doesn't look bad at all. As I've mentioned somewhere else I don't like the golden colour painted on the Main Street Station, but I think these arches look nice.
It seems DLP took DL's 50th birthday for inspiration.
Personally, I like the golden colours on the pillars. Ha, the banners still look a bit cheap - but it's better than nothing.
Do you guys think that they'll change the images on the lampposts? - since the last ones were of characters for the MMF. Or even the addition of large signs like they had for the 15th?

Probably they will change the images. Thank god , those huge banners aren't planned for the 20th Anniversary but there will be something for the show 'Main Street USA Celebrates!' and it will be pilairs but I can't say anything more.

I hope they'll just take them down...
The ironwork painted gold actually looks quite good, as a temporary gimmick, and catches the lights nicely. I just hope they don't overdo it - keep it as an accent here, don't plaster the whole lot in gold. The Gibson Girl's new bunting is also lovely, much nicer than the samey fan-shapes hanging everywhere else. They should put this on all the bookends of Main Street, especially The Emporium.
Indeed! The new bunting is much nicer! It doesn´t look that hard like the other. Hope we will see more of that at the end.
And do somebody meanwhile know what "Main Street, U.S.A. Celebrates!" really is? Is it now just that decorations?
Quote from: "Riebi"And do somebody meanwhile know what "Main Street, U.S.A. Celebrates!" really is? Is it now just that decorations?
I'm still wondering the same to be honest! There are rumours of lights being involved... possibly on Main Street Station, possibly along the street. I could imagine bright LEDs, like those already installed on the castle, being dotted around the street and suddenly coming to life at intervals, like the snowfall at Christmas, but that's just my imagination. It would be a good way to do something flashy whilst still allowing the street to look relatively normal in between, as the LEDs would be hard to spot when not in use.
Can anyone give us any real facts?
I was under the impression it would rely more on projection. Again, another investment in an infrastructure that could be used for almost any occassion. But I'm sure we would have seen these by now if they were coming...

That new sign really looks bad , why , oh god why ?
I don't no :(
I was one of the few who liked the golden banners on the buildings, but now I think they are too much. Less is more and so I think they should put some of them down.
Why did they replace the Main Street Station sign? It doesn't look that bad, but I don't see the reason why they replaced the old one. However I liked the Main Street sign better.
And the golden entrance looks just terrible.
Some pictures from InsideDLParis @Twitter. Gold is truly everywhere:

Oh no. I was originally excited over the thought of this overlay but so far it's looking pretty horendous. That new sign looks beyond cheap, and there's just a tad too many of those gold bunting. Who gives these things the green-light?
At the Disneyland Hotel it says DISNEYLAND PARK. At the Main Street Station is says DISNEYLAND PARIS. Maybe that sign has something to do with the 20th birthday sign that will be installed at the Main Street Station.
Hopefully we get the Main Street sign back after the 20th birthday. It looks just better with the golden letters.
It's not that bad. They'll probably have something hanging off it.

Whew, I'm really glad to see that the concept has changed since that picture of last year's recycled frame. Compared to the atrocities the station has suffered in the past, I think that this is most in line with the better examples of US park decorations. It's definitely very American.
I'm also quite happy they use the 1992 castle graphic!

It's really great that Disney is using the 1992 castle graphic. I like these shields with the castle. I still don't like the golden colour on the station, but the 20th birthday sign in the concept art doesn't look bad. It's definitely a huge improvement compared to recent years.
Wow they like their fiber optics.. I imagine there's some really colourful "Light Magic" style effects in the main logo rather than the little dots on the shields, but that's me being super hopeful. :P

They're in fact solid (as in fibreglass or plastic) with LED's embedded in them. ;)
After seeing the concept art, I think the old Main Street sign will return after the 20th birthday. It seems the new Disneyland Paris sign is part of the 20th birthday makeover. That's why they used PARIS instead of PARK to make clear they whole resort is celebrating its 20th birthday.
I think we have a problem on this site of crying foul for any changes until we actually visit and see the overall effect! I like most of what I've seen so far, but will wait until my next visit (11th April) and see just what it all looks like when its put together.

I actually quite like the arches as gold, and the little details they've added like the stars, hopefully this will be a tasteful overlay to the station. But I'm hoping that it doesn't become the 'new thing for Entertainments to put stuff onto now they're banished from the Castle'..
It seems the last picture is showing a lamp, but I'm not sure. Maybe they are doing a lightning test?
I think the station has been done tastefully in gold and looks grand. I'll be able to take plenty of new pictures of it in the summer in it's new colours.

I must say that I really like it this year! Especially compared to the cheap figures placed there last year.
This looks well done and classy - and with the exception of Tinkerbell it is focused on celebrating rather than just toons. I am very, very happy :D
And the decoration on Main Street U.S.A is really great too - I mean if this was a 1920 Main Street in U.S.A they would mark a celebration by hanging things from windows and decorating in this classy manner. So very good too.
The 20th looks very good so far!
I think it looks really nice too! I'm pleasantly surprised :D
I love so much that they have kept to the classic Tinkerbell from Peter Pan for this rather than the new film version. They even have her blue hair ribbon!
Surprisingly classy.
Not bad at all! The park really seemed changed in their recent attempts to not create new, garish things that plaster over the beautiful park (The Stage, the Castle decor, etc etc), but now seem keen to make use of the existing features.
There are definately some small improvements which have made a huge difference. The only other anniversary i've visited was for the 15th and although i did love it, this seems more tasteful.

The Disneyland Paris logo that they installed looks like it's glowing a bit, too. It looks great! It complements Main Street, rather than competing.
The lights on look exquisite! It's a grand welcome, which is cleverly designed, thoughful and tasteful! It's very similar to Hong Kong's 5th birthday theme, and I loved what they did there, so this is a great addition!

I like to think that the residents of Main Street are celebrating having their plaza park back. ;)
Main Street does look fabulous right now, and is especially cool with the new daytime music. Just don't look too closely at the Liberty Arcade/Central Plaza side of Casey's Corner or Bixby Brothers on Town Square - the only two spots I noticed still needing work.

I couldn't agree more! This page is the one I've been reading with the most interest. I can wait to see Main Street and to see all of the little details that have been bought back to life, that most other visitors won't even notice.
I have a trave lagents promo for the 20th celebrations on Main Street.
"Excitement is in the air,as one of the most famous streets in the world celebrates our 20th anniversary. Witness magic, lights, colours and even more twinkles and memorable glowings-on than ever before."
Has anything changed since the 12th April as the description does not match what I saw on that night! Or was I just unlucky or unobservant?
On 12th April, the mini land show was titled "Main Street, U.S.A. Celebrates!", but that isn't what they're talking about the brochures. This is just the name of the Main Street decorations and Main Street Station overlay (which is the lights and glowings on references). As usual, the blurb hypes it up to be something rather more than it is (although I am glad they put a name to the overlay).
Hope that makes sense? :)
Definitely the poorest of the 20th offerings then! Thanks Anthony.
No, it's still far better than the character train! :P

No your not, gldc, I think it looks terrific and is the most "Disney" overlay the train has had! I think if you were visiting for the first time the decoration of the train is just what you would expect! We know it too well and have got blasie about it I think!
To continue the "off topic" train discussion. We, for the first time, followed it up Main Street. It was like being in the parade and my 3yo loved it (and I did too I am ashamed to admitt. The new song is fab. So I think we should give it a break. It is a long way from being the worse thing about DLP at the moment.
I really, really like the song as well! Very disney!
