Let's celebrate! Here's hoping they don't build anything ridiculous in it's place.
Quote from: "15MagicalYears"Let's celebrate! Here's hoping they don't build anything ridiculous in it's place.
I assume they will create a mini lake of some kind and have a stage in the middle with water round it with the fountains floating in the lake will be interesting to see the progress.
I shall look forward to seeing that.
Quote from: "ed-uk"I shall look forward to seeing that.
I can't wat :D this show is going to be fantastic just can't wait for everything to take place.
Hallelujah! Would love to see some concept art of what's going to replace it.
A close up of the 20th Anniversary posters on the green walls: (//https://p.twimg.com/AiuoJIxCEAAPZck.jpg:large)
Hooray! Now where did I put the champagne...? :D
The plaza will finally be back to normal. I can't wait to see it complete. They won't be adding anything there, though. It's just so that people can have a good view of the castle.
any idea on when it will be finished? The walls for the construction of the stage were there on my last visit in 2009. hopefully I'll be there again by the second week of February, and I wouldn't like to see those walls on the same place :S
I can't remember what it looked like before it was built, does anyone have any photos they can post?

What a sight for sore eyes.... I hope they're going back to this look (maybe without those gates).
I'd personally really love a foundation of come sort in the middle. Something else to make Disneyland Paris unique, and someone that can look classy and formal in the day, and come alive at night and be utilised for "Dreams."
And just look at all those benches! Central Plaza could do with an injection of extra seating, the (few) benches are always taken.
Here's another. (with the gates)

You can see from these pictures what a mistake putting a stage up was - Central Plaza was designed to be a park land: a thematically neutral area as well as a simply beautiful area to sit and relax. Not an entertainment venue (with the exceptions of the fireworks and Dreams.)
wow it looks so different, im sure i must of see DLRP without the stage however i just cant remember! i visited for the first time in 2005 was it there then?
i have to say im kinda sad to see it go not cause i like the stage itself just i loved the shows that happened on it the stage itself is a monstrosity!
Thank you for the photos. Such a difference it's much nicer without the stage.
Quote from: "MissDisneyisMagical"wow it looks so different, im sure i must of see DLRP without the stage however i just cant remember! i visited for the first time in 2005 was it there then?
Yes, it was there. But it was a different one that was smaller. It didn't have the three things sticking out. I can't remember what it was like before the stage was there, either.
Here are 2 pictures from August 2005...

It's so satisfying to see that stage finally leaving, it worked for the 15th show, but the satellite stages were a mistake, they didn't even improve the show because it was never choreographed to act as an in the round show, it was just a funny shaped stage! I'd love to see them move the Partners statue from Studios into the hub so it falls in the same place in each of the parks it's in. Aside from that there is nothing I'd like to see there but fountains if they enhance the show, and the return of nice planting.
On the statues point, imagine if they moved Partners to DLP, and then the new Friends one to Studios, and re-worked Hollywood placemaking to a Buena Vista Street style. It's like the stage was stopping things from falling into place!
I actually prefer the Partners statue in the Studios park. I think visitors in Europe are less aware of the Disney legacy and the history of the man, and I think it makes sense to have a Park dedicated to the stories and the characters, and a park dedicated to the history, the techniques and behind the scenes.
I'm actually excited about being able to see Central Plaza stage free, the area looks so much better without one.
What was they thinking in 2005 with that Wishes plaque? It looks awful!

Oh yeah. The stage wasn't there in 2005. It was 2007. XD The 15th anniversary confused me.
I hadn't visited the park before the stage was put in.
That looks SO much better without it. I can see the want to have a stage there and the castle makes a nice backdrop for a show. But, the stage was too high and it obscured the view of the castle.
It's pretty much gone now. It shouldn't take them long to return the hub to how it was, I don't think. They may have to re-lay the floor though, dependant on how much damage was caused by the building/demolition of the stage, but the large circular flower bed should still be there, just needing to be uncovered and re planted after its 5 year hybernation :P

The good old lamps are back and they're almost ready to add the grass. It seems very unlikely that we'll be getting the partners statue or a flowerbed in the centre, though, but I'm fine with that. :)
Wow, it looks so pretty: clean and spacious!
I really hope that it's going to stay like that - nice and empty - so there will be enough space to see Dreams! So people aren't standing on the grass areas. >.<
(God forbid that children are put on their parents shoulders.)
J'ai hâte de voir ça as they say! I don't really lament the loss of the central flowerbed either (during shows, people would have treated it like pavement anyway), but I wonder if it will have some sort of unwanted effect on traffic flow? I always get the impression that Disney tries to break up straight passageways (especially to weenies) to spread people out a bit. Strategically placed greenery of that sort can be found all over any Disney park. There's always a fork in the road, an obstacle to circumvent. This will effectively free up a straight highway from Main Street to Fantasyland. Just a thought, haha.
mmm, I think they probably do do that in most places. I think it's referred to as interrupting 'desire lines' with planters, walls, features etc. If it's just grass (or even a flower bed perhaps) it will just get walked over.
And I guess the biggest desire line in the park is Main St to the Castle! But I think they're right to leave this one open, better for that castle photograph and allowing flow through this area, rather than the odd roundabout we used to have.
something like this for central plaza? With Mickey or... :)

Good to see Central Plaza back in its old glory! I still think the Partners Statue should be placed there, but I guess that would block the view of Dreams a bit.

...............I don't know what to say. It's been so long since I've seen this view, I'd forgotten what it looked like. Its just perfect. The only thing that's missing is Walt.
Imagineer Steve Davison was the one that took these photos, BTW! He seemed more excited than us! He said, "It's so much better without the stage. It blocked this amazing piece of architecture. WOW! What a castle!"
Wasn't there a flower bed in the middle? I guess it was the best not to rebuild that one, because of stupid guests climbing over the fences to watch Dreams.
yes, there was a flower bed in the middle, but it would be destroyed by the Dreams audience!
Fantastic, I can't wait to see the view from the bottom of Main Street. Hopefully the newly appointed "Parks Landscaping Department" make the plaza look pretty ASAP. It looks so bland just patches of grass.

Haha, I'd missed that comment further down! Good to see the internal hatred that stage built up, so it wasn't just a fan annoyance.
It looks amazing. Perhaps a shame they didn't do more with the floor though. Even just plaques embedded in the ground pointing to each land would have been a nice finishing touch. Oh well,
NO STAGE!!!
There's something odd about how there's a line going straight; right through the middle. I guess I need to see a picture of it when it's more sunny. XD

2012 has started prepare lol jk
I've never seen this before - as I first went in 2010. But I have to say it looks so beautiful. I cannot wait to walk straight down main street, through the new area and into the castle. It will be magical! I'm glad there's more room for Dreams! now.
Just read on DCP that the new stage-less Central Plaza is supposedly going to be the reserved viewing area for the Disney Dreams Restaurant Package.
that would be an absolute nightmare to police and distinctly unfair and rather impractical.
I think the area for the restaurant package is more likely to be outside plaza gardens or caseys corner.

Fantastic! I was beginning to fear we'd be left with four patches of grass. Can anyone make out what the design is supposed to make-out? That's if it is a design and not just a swirling pattern.
It looks beautiful , I'm going the 10th , by then they probably have planted others for the 10th time... , let's hope people will have respect for it...
I'd like everyone here who visits this year to go and stand in the middle of Central Plaza, get your camera out, point it down to the ground and take a picture of your feet standing right in the dead centre, where the paving meets.
Then, especially since not everyone likes to post their actual face picture online, we can have a kind of rogues gallery of magicforum shoes, celebrating the departed stage. Bonus points for novelty footwear. :)
Lol. I'll try and remember to do that. XD
Also, the flowers are looking nice. It looks like "Parks Landscaping Department" has been hard at work. :P

Come one everyone else: next time you visit, stand there, take a photo and proclaim "I've stood in the middle of Central Plaza again!", then post it here. I like that we'll all have stood in the exact same spot, doing the exact same (weird) thing!
That`s a funny idea!! Keep on doing that, so I`ll remember doing it when we go!

LOL, funny, i try it too :)
I'll have to remember to do this in 2 days - no novelty shoes though, well, not mine anyway! Lucas might be wearing Lightning McQueen welly boots.
 I like the idea! Hope I don't forget when I'm there in July!

This was taken while we were waiting for Dreams to start and I was a bit apprehensive at first, as it meant putting my foot near to where a couple were sitting. After a few moments of deliberation I just went for it!
Here's my own entry for "I stood on Central Plaza". I took this on Sunday (13th of May 2012) about an hour before the parade started. It's worth noting that I was intentionally wearing an old trustworthy pair of trainers, to avoid getting blisters.

Pretty as it was, a good decision not to bring back or replace the flower bed with anything in the end, I think. Funny that the park looks more "grown in" in that photo than it does today, after all the pruning for Dreams...
Must remember to take a photo during our trip!!!
DLP should be keeping an eye on this thread - it would help them decide what type of shoes to sell to visitors!
I actually like central Plaza more without the stage. I am sure my sister asked some1 to take a photo of us in front of the castly
e, though not on central Plaza, but on the compass rose at the castle gates, which we thought may have a similar effect than that brionze point in front ot Notre Dame, where it is said everyone standing directly on it will definately return.
How i say, i made. Me on Central Plaza... :)
I really did consider wearing more fashionable shoes for this, but in the end I figured it wouldn't be worth the blisters.

A legs and shorts contest on Central Plaza, what have I got myself into? The person with the best legs and shorts takes the prize, you know who you are. :D
I think, I will loooooose  My legs are toooooo thin and my shooorts...quiet simple.
Your legs and shorts sound just like mine. =D>
so where are all these muscle legs hawaiian shorts guys? At six flags? :-"
I hope they are at six flags, I don't want them showing me up at DLP if I'm in my shorts.
maybe we should buy some browning powder too... :P
This reminds me of this story I read in which a woman posted a picture of her shoulder on a dating site, and got two dozen eager replies. But I do agree that my legs are spectacular. This was the first time they'd seen the sun all year. (I work in an office.)
I think it should also be okay for people to lie down on the ground and have a stranger take the picture.
I work in an office too
that said, i'm interested what that means for the contest...and lay on the ground... :P
That would be the end of a drinking contest....laying on the ground. :D

Really? But I must say that I will also happy just to stand there again after all this years of stages.
I liked it better when it was full of flowers and a few seats for those tired legs. A lot of characters would be found here, causing havoc; I remember Pluto getting into trouble from his minder for jumping on the seats, but we all thought it great fun. I do remember in 1997 walking down towards central plaza, and seeing 4 very large bells each with a gargole on top from the Hunchback film; they weren't out of place because of the themeing for that year but glad they weren't kept. I would prefer if they brought back the original layout for central plaza, it would be nice to relax and have a seat before deciding which land to go to.

The benches have returned to the inside of the outer planter ring. Everything is the same as it was before Wishes save for that one round planter in the middle, and there were never any benches surrounding it:

I took my photo facing the castle so horizontal and vertical lines here. I havent had a chance to get my photos uploaded and sorted yet though.
i think its how u stand, so as u look down, it will be diagonally???
It looks so much better I remember the old view so clearly from way back. The impact of the castle was diminished by the stage so glad when I take my half sister for her first time she will get to see it how it should be seen. Might have to rethink my footwear tho I don't think anyone needs to see my beat up old trainers.
