Hey guys!
Hope you are all doing well! :P
According to dlrpmagic.com,looks like Mickey Mouse is going to conjure up a permanent meet 'n' greet at Fantasy Festival Stage...another new addition for the 20th Anniversary! :D

And then, as if by magic, there we three. So far we know that the 20th Anniversary next year will bring Jack Sparrow to Pirates of the Caribbean and a new, world-exclusive nighttime show likely featuring fountains and fireworks at Sleeping Beauty Castle. But how about a brand new addition for the mouse that started it all? Yes, from next year Mickey Mouse himself is set to get his own permanent meet 'n' greet location within Fantasy Festival Stage!
The theatre has sat at the back of Fantasyland, connected to the Railroad Station, with only very limited use for more than a decade now. Whilst it began life in 1992 as a key venue hosting the classic C'est Magique musical revue, since 2006 only occasional seasonal performances of the show Winnie the Pooh and Friends, Too have occupied the small stage. Taking over this under-utilised space, which is never going to be good for grand stage shows, whilst giving the mouse his own dedicated spot actually sounds like a logical and wise proposition. Why the magic puns? Because if you're a follower of Disney Parks worldwide, you'll know all about the new "Backstage Magic with Mickey Mouse" meet 'n' greet that recently opened on Main Street at Florida's Magic Kingdom (photos via Disney Parks Blog).

This new attraction, which even comes with its own Fastpass service, leads visitors through a fabulously-themed queue space littered with props and in-jokes — even a crate marked "Marne-la-Vallée – Paris" — with the storyline that you're meeting Mickey Mouse, now a magician, backstage...
While the idea is somewhat tenuously planted into Main Street (and was unpopular with some, at least before its debut revealed the great detail), you couldn't have a more perfect set-up for the location in Paris. Not just a real theatre, not just in the very fitting British quarter of the land, but in Fantasyland, where the characters truly belong. There's little clue yet whether the European version will have such an extravagant set-up, or its own Fastpass tickets, but the two projects are certainly related and we should look forward to this new, more "magical" backstage encounter with the Mouse from next year.
In fact, it may well be our fourth new addition for the 20th and our second new permanent meet 'n' greet, as we mustn't forget the Princess Pavilion that slowly continues its delayed construction across the land, in the former post-show area of "it's a small world". More news on that one soon...
Hope this news brings happiness to you all...Well it did to me! :D/
This is pretty cool, do you have the link to the dlrpmagic article where this is mentioned? I can't seem to find it.
If this is true I suppose this will almost make sense, as Duffy will probably be meeting at Mickey's old location on Main Street.
-EDIT-
Nevermind, I found it. The article doesn't seem to show up on dlrpmagic.com but only dlrptoday.com. :?

I bet the kids will love this, if it's true. ^_^
What really surprised me about this is how much space they will have if they're going to use the entire theatre. Do they need that much space? :?

If you look at the tour of the meet and greet in Florida, it shows how expansive and large it is. (plus there's more than one of mickey's room).

I really hope we get something similar or as highly detailed as this, I think it's great.
Seems very interesting. And if it is like i understand it will be, it seems that it would be a copy of the WDW version.
This sounds great. The only problem is, doesn't this officially confirm that the Little Mermaid ride will never get built behind the Fantasyland Station?
No, it just means that it won't get built in the near future.
Also remember the gates at the end of storybookland

I have to say, this thing was really well-done. Totally Disney, totally Main Street USA. The only compromise was the princess area, which is only temporary anyway. If we get anything like this I'll be quite happy.
Wouldn't it be fun with a slight British twist for the Fantasy Festival Stage? Mickey could be touring.
That sounds interesting. If it is anything like that, I`m looking forward in opefully see it next year

Very true!Lets make sure the 20th Anniversary arrives soon! :D/ CANT WAIT!
Quote from: "norhel"Seems very interesting. And if it is like i understand it will be, it seems that it would be a copy of the WDW version.
They sound like they're related, but apparently this won't be a plain copy. Whether that means we're in for something of similar scale yet different, or just a cut-down version... Hopefully we'll learn more soon as the 20th additions are tied down.
I'm trying not to get my expectations of this too high as I'm sure it'll be a disappointment, does anyone know if this is being designed/created by WDI or Entertainment?
It will probably be WDI, because the wdw version is more than just a meet and greet, it's a new attraction
I think this is a great idea if it follows suit from what WDW have done.
I'd love for them to treat the attraction a little differently than the WDW version, and put in one of the incredible interactive Mickey characters, and then batch in groups who can have a private audience with Mickey! That would be a definate 5 star attraction, finally bring a talking head character over, and give us something which in the original style of the park is a development of a previous Disney attraction for the better.
Imagine the tag line: "Backstage Magic With Mickey Mouse: How's this for imagination!"
Good point, in such a controlled environment, surely this would be a perfect opportunity to bring it over.
I realise they're expensive costumes to purchase, but with multiple rooms too it means you could have an English show, a French show and cycle other languages if needed! In my mind they'd be silly to pass up the opportunity, but it might all come down to cost.. after 20 years though, surely the park's mascot needs to have his say?
I haven't heard of the interactive characters, before. Where have they been used? :)
Quote from: "Meph"I haven't heard of the interactive characters, before. Where have they been used? :)
If I'm not mistaken, it is characters that you can talk to live, and the character answers you back with the voice of that character.
They did a test in Disneyland in USA witch you can read about here:
//http://www.photosmagiques.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=9185&
The video on page 2 sums it up more completely, but the tech is basically a talking head character (a new generation on the Timon character we had in Legend of the Lion King, who I think now walks the parade?) who can use what has been claimed to be a 'live' voice. I know I keep harping on about it, but the magic is exactly what is needed in DLP these days, the Imagineers created a wonderful park, which was so advanced for it's time in terms of what Disney offered, and it's remained stagnant, get a truely Magical Mickey in and we're climbing ever closer back to that original atmosphere!
Yeah, it looked really amazing! :D The official video was the only one that worked, but having a live voice would be amazing.
[youtube:u2cf71t5]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5wC-dBx7-Y[/youtube:u2cf71t5]
You can see how they would take advantage of this in this attraction. I think we've all imagined that they would do this one day, so it's great that they've actually done it. You could hear the tone of the parents voices in the video; they were genuinely amazed. :D
it is amazing, could you imagine how exciting it must be to get to talk to mickey! this is what walt disney would have wanted more than any new technology ride, something to amaze young and old, and to make everyone feel like they're a child
This technology isn't currently in-use at any Disney Resort so I highly doubt it will make it's way over to Paris until then. Plus, what will happen when a Spanish or other non English/French speaking child wants to meet Mickey?
Isn't this Talking Mickey technology actually simpler than it appears? Isn't it just a guy, either inside the Mickey costume or (most likely) outside it, doing it live in person? It's not pre-recorded. It's a form of puppetry, with Mickey's big head being the puppet, right?
Bret Iwan became the new voice of Mickey Mouse in 2009. And when did we first see Talking Mickey, summer 2010 wasn't it? So what if Bret is actually there in Disneyland, in person, doing the voice live. I think that's how it's done.
[youtube:211pzncx]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iONrsvk9kg[/youtube:211pzncx]
I'm not exactly sure how it's done, though there are several theories out there. Including many videos that could prove them, for example this video of another test clearly shows this interaction is pre-recorded:
[youtube:1993ebsi]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVXtqPlOcIc[/youtube:1993ebsi]
Also, I highly doubt they would hire Brett Iwan to do that, it would probably cost them a fortune.
I don't think the pre-recorded one is using the same technology. This is much more advanced. :)
Obviously they aren't the same technology, I was just pointing out that it isn't being used permanently at any resort and has been tested various ways.
Oh. Sorry. XD
Still, all they need is two mickey rooms, one in French, one in English.
Quote from: "peter"Still, all they need is two mickey rooms, one in French, one in English.
Like I questioned earlier, what happens then when a non-English/French speaking guest wants to meet Mickey?
but didn't they do some europe wide survey about languages and find that most people can now speak english as a second language. here in the uk, we are really bad at foreign languages
True, but would the littler kids be able to speak English that early? :)
Quote from: "peter"but didn't they do some europe wide survey about languages and find that most people can now speak english as a second language. here in the uk, we are really bad at foreign languages
I'm just curious, but why is that if I may ask? Even the French are noticeably improving their English language skills in the last decade or so. :)
Although I would love to see the interactive costumes in Paris, I think our chances are fairly slim. Its simply too expensive I guess. And I am not only talking about the costumes, but also about the voice actors. Just a French and English speaking Mickey won't do. Like Meph already said, you can't expect Dutch/Flemish, German, Spanish and Italian children to understand French and/or English at their age. ;)
Regarding the general shows, language is not so much a problem since the songs/melodies are universal and the visuals help a lot to understand the story. When it comes to interactive experiences however, like Stitch Live, language really matters.

A few reasons really, primarily because English has been the dominant language worldwide for so long because of the British Empire, partly because it's not actually compulsory to learn a language except between ages 11-14 any more, I learnt French but that wasn't very fun, and we also don't get that much choice in schools, its normally French, Spanish or German, I only had the choice of French or Spanish. It is something that drastically needs improving though.
But anyway regarding the meet 'n' greet, I would have thought this would be a voice-changer in the costume for the true live version, but I think they could get away with having English and French on all day and then rotating through languages for a couple of hours each in the other rooms.
Interactive Mickey is in no way planned for our resort.
Why do people keep saying this Talking Mickey is done with a voice-changer? All a voice-changer does is modulate the pitch of your voice either up or down. If you think that all it takes to sound like Mickey Mouse is to have someone speak into a microphone, and have the pitch of their voice increased via a voice-changer, then you're wrong :-)
Quote from: "Kristof"Interactive Mickey is in no way planned for our resort.
Shame, but true :(
Images released by DLRPExpress certainly suggest that this will be very, very similar to the Backstage Mickey experience in Orlando.
That can only be a good thing, especially if wdi are doing it again
That's the image from the brochure. The description in it confirmed that this will have the same story as the US counterpart. ;)
I wonder if the exterior of the theatre will get any adjustments, because there are two themes here that could clash. Theres the pastel colours and the British Victorian "village" style of the exterior, and the deep reds and popcorn lights of the almost Broadway interior of the Orlando attraction.
That's a good point. Maybe they'll go for more of an Albert Hall look?
Then again, that's probably a bit too much. :P

why is it that they always use slightly creepy looking children?
I'm hoping this will use multiple Mickeys to keep the waits as short as possible. Also, thank goodness DLP is finally getting an indoor, controlled environment to meet Mickey - I really disliked his Main Street location.
They have a big building to work with. I suspect they might have the front section the queue, with one or two mickeys underneath the station, and perhaps a side extension with the photo shop
Or maybe they'll have one for Mickey and one for Minnie? What's it like in the American parks?
I really wish they'd have been more creative with the names this year. As fans, we all know the resort's offering reasonably little for the 20th Anniversary, but choosing such a lacklustre name for this will make it evident to the average guests, as doesn't one usually expect to be able to "Meet Mickey" at a Disneyland park?
If they had described the premise and concept of it, or perhaps included that it was an import from their Floridian cousin, it would have bigged it up, and really made it seem like something new and something to get excited about.
Yeah, I think "Backstage With Mickey" would be a better name than just "Meet Mickey".
It might be a working title. Dreams was referred to in the brochure as the Colour, Lights and Magic show.
Saying that, whilst the title is lacklustre, the description gives a good indiction of the attractions:
QuoteEverybody's favourite mouse is taking some time out, and welcomes you to meet him backstage in his rehearsal room of his theatre in Fantasyland. On your way to the stage door, enjoy a tour of the ornate music hall and laugh along with some classic short films featuring Mickey and his friends. Once backstage, you'll be invited to share an audience with the star himself who will share some of his favourite props and costumes and pose for a special photo souvenir with you and your family.
I can confirm, 'Meet Mickey' is the working title and looks to stay as the official name. It is a co-production between WDI and DLP entertainment. (very similar team that worked on 'once upon a dream parade')
It's looking good so far! :-)
Seriously what a lame name...'Meet Mickey' of anything they could of come up with they use the most boring title ever.
Meet Mickey probably works better across all languages and as their emphasis seems to be sadly more on meet and greets they probably want it to be as obvious possible what is going on. Sounds good though, at least it's more imaginative than the usual meet and greets. Would rather have a show though.
I think it sounds quite plain when you say it out loud, but imagine it on a poster with a drawing of Mickey, the magicians setting and then Meet Mickey! in a fanciful type at the top. Walking up to it, it'd have a lot of impact and definately entice people in. The attraction itself should be a wonderful addition to the park, adding organisation to the madness of meeting Mickey, and removing the more 'temporary' greets from across the park!
Does any one know if this means they'll stop doing Winnie the Pooh and Christmas Too, as its usually staged at the FFS. This is one of the highlights for my little girl during our Christmas Season trip and we wil need time to prepare her that it wont be on. It's one of the only places we usually get to see Piglet, who she loves.
The area inside the old theatre has now been gutted and is being changed into the Mickey meet and greet, so sadly Winnie the Pooh isn't likely to be returning there any time soon. Of course, this isn't to say they won't find a way to bring his show to another stage in the park - although it'd most likley be a trimmed down version set wise.
Now reportedly due to open
17th May 2012:
Quote'Meet Mickey Mouse' unveils new colours, but won't meet 20th Anniversary launch date
"Everything neat and pretty?" Well, not quite. Although some of the wraps came down from Fantasy Festival Stage last week, revealing the former show venue's new colour palette, it is emerging that its new purpose as a permanent Mickey Mouse meet 'n' greet won't begin right at the launch of the 20th Anniversary as expected. Instead, according to @InsideDLParis, Mickey will don his magician's cape ready for an opening on 17th May 2012. This is unconfirmed, publicly, by Disneyland Paris.

I really hope for date on 17th May is final (for my trip :( ) [-o<
There might be some soft openings before the official opening date.
It's very disappointing that it has got behind schedule as this is one of the big new attractions for the anniversary. Anybody have ideas as to why it has got behind schedule? I would understand if it was outside because of the weather etc but it is all inside. The only reason I can think of is there is so much work left to do for Dreams so that is ready on time WDI have decided to concentrate on that and move all their workforce onto that as we know WDI are responsible for both.
any update on this - im going on the 16th april and was hoping it would be open
The latest date we have is 17th May for an opening.
But until then, it seems to be expected that Mickey will move to a new meet 'n' greet spot at Woody's Roundup Village in Frontierland, as a temporary solution.

I was hoping different for once, oh well. Would of been nice to meet Minnie aswell.
Can I ask a possibly silly question - are the white hand-shaped things Mickey's hands or Mickey's gloves? I must admit I always just thought they were his hands so it was quite creepy and illusion-shattering to see spare pairs of them in his magician-case-thing with his hat, haha! Now I am confused...are they his gloves? 'Cause Minnie wears them too and I always just thought they had white hands but it would make sense if they were gloves I suppose

Some details of the interior layout revealed.
QuoteAs for the inside, we can reveal that the layout will largely stay true to its theatre origins. Guests will queue back and forth roughly along the former rows of seating, with the centrepiece being the stage itself, where a projection screen will be installed.
Following the queue line up into the theatre's real backstage area, they will enter a vestibule area before finally encountering Magician Mickey Mouse himself, in his backstage dressing room, littered with props similar to those seen in his Florida meet 'n' greet. Exit will be via the left-hand side of the theatre, past the souvenir photo wall and sales area in the left bay. Numerous other details, accessories and "animated posters" will complete the attraction.
We can also confirm that "Magician" Mickey here really will employ some special magic tricks, allowing him to shorten the queue time by as much as two or three times, depending on attendance...

That's a gorgeous and very classy sign. It's nice to see full Disney quality back in Paris.
Shame about the ugly "Rencontre avec Mickey" completely disrespecting the British theme of the area (not the mention the intelligence of French visitors themselves)...
But yes, otherwise a lovely marquee.
I also like the sign and I have to agree that the Rencontre Avec Mickey wouldn't have been necessary. Like Anthony already pointed out, they should have sticked to the British theme of the area.
Howevre I have one negative point. I would have prefered lightbulbs, like on the signs on Main Street, instead of LEDs. In my opinion they look more classy.
Yes, but if you're French and can't speak English, a sign also in French like Rencontre Avec Mickey ( in smaller letters and under the English ) could be helpful to them.
Love how its coming along! Can't wait to see photos of the inside.
I am really really really hoping they catch up on this, as it's the attraction my son is looking forward to most, however, we are going home on the 13th. When we booked it for that date, we thought all the new additions for the 20th anniversary will be open. I know there'll be a temp one but it's just not the same. So really really really hoping they catch up and open it. If not, ah well.
Quote from: "ed-uk"Yes, but if you're French and can't speak English, a sign also in French like Rencontre Avec Mickey ( in smaller letters and under the English ) could be helpful to them.
How dumb do we think French visitors are? If they can cope with all the English-named attractions, shops and restaurants throughout Main Street and Frontierland, they can cope with the word "Meet" here. Really all they need to see are the words "Mickey Mouse" and it becomes clear, they can ignore the "Meet" the same way we might ignore the "Les Voyages de" of Pinocchio's attraction title. At Disneyland Paris it has always been about communicating visually. If they feel they have to add subtitles, they've failed.
If "Recontre avec Mickey" needed to be communicated, it should be on French park maps and on a smaller placard at the entrance to the queue line. No way should it be part of the main marquee. It's not even a well-integrated subtitle - the letters appear cheap and poorly placed, squashed into the space below Mickey Mouse. Makes it look like a real last minute break of confidence in the intelligence of their audience.
Such a shame, considering how good this looks otherwise.
Even the temporary version is entirely in English to fit with Frontierland.

Can you believe we have temporary signage in DLP which looks as good as that?
I have a funny feeling that the temporary version is also designed/set-up by imagineers rather than the entertainment department - purely just from that one photo. The temporary version is looking really good though!
Quote from: "15MagicalYears"I have a funny feeling that the temporary version is also designed/set-up by imagineers rather than the entertainment department - purely just from that one photo. The temporary version is looking really good though!
I thought the same about the sign. It looks really good and you wouldn't think it's temporary.
Regarding the new Meet Micky sign, I have to say it looks a bit out of place after looking at some pictures of Fantasyland. Don't get me wrong the sign looks nice, but no attraction in Fantasyland has an electrical sign. In my opinion it would have been better to use a sign that's illuminated from above, from the front or from the sides.
@ Anthony
How dumb do I think the French are, I don't. After all on the signs they do call it Disneyland Parc, and as it's Disneyland in France Rencontre Avec Mickey on a sign didn't seem unreasonable to me. They can't just banish the French language altogether because it's not English enough. My French isn't very good so I wouldn't know what Rencontre Avec ment... I'm looking forward to the day I can take a ride on Phantom Manor and listen to the ghost host speaking in English and not French, I think it would fit in better with the Frontierland theme.
Having seen that photo of the temporary one, I think it looks much better with just English. And despite earlier concerns, I think my son would love this. I still hope they manage to catch up, but this one still looks brilliant
And shouldn't the sign above the Agrabah Cafe Restaurant be written in Arabic if it's to fit the theme.
I really like the temporary sign at frontier land I think I actually prefer it to the real sign at the moment. It's great to see the thought being put into temporary signs!
I wonder what language Mickey will speak in, if he does speak, I assume it'll be in French and English, he normally only speaks in French, but I'll be able to read the sign above the door I know that.
Quote from: "ed-uk"My French isn't very good so I wouldn't know what Rencontre Avec ment...
But you'd know there's a new Mickey Mouse meet 'n' greet advertised and arrive in Fantasyland to see the giant "Mickey Mouse" letters there. It's pretty obvious. If extra information needs to be translated to confirm to guests that it's a meet 'n' greet or a "rencontre", it should be on a smaller sign like this (//http://www.dlrpmagic.com/guidebook/images/galleries/l/fantasy-festival-stage_3.jpg), which less blatantly breaks the setting.
Arabic obviously wouldn't be used because it's no use to
anyone in the park (but perhaps a tiny minority). In that case, they chose French and it seems an acceptable compromise for the Middle East.
When to use English and when not to. Blanche Neige et les Sept Nains is a German Story, so shouldn't the sign above the door be in German? I think Disney compromise on language and as an English speaker I've never had any problems. Minnie Mouse speaks in English, Mickey Mouse speaks in French. If I go on Phantom Manor I can read the sign, but I can't understand much of what is being said on the ride, and it's in Frontierland which is in America so it should be in English therefore.
Quote from: "ed-uk"When to use English and when not to. Blanche Neige et les Sept Nains is a German Story, so shouldn't the sign above the door be in German? I think Disney compromise on language and as an English speaker I've never had any problems.
Exactly, it's a compromise. But it seems always only between French and English (except perhaps La Bottega di Gepetto and Pizzeria Bella Notte). Blanche Neige is nearer the French part of Fantasyland so it feels more appropriate. Other visitors might be confused, but there's no subtitle because it'd clutter up the exterior. An English-themed area is precisely the place where every main marquee should be in English. They never needed a "Manger du Fish 'n Chips" under the Toad Hall signage or "voler avec Peter Pan" under the Peter Pan's Flight logo.
But besides that pedantry, the letters just look cheap and poorly placed. Even if it said something in English, I'd still say they should remove it and let the illuminated letters speak for themselves.
I don't know if it has already been mentioned, but according to D23 Mickey Mouse will talk:
Mickey Mouse is dressed to impress—and talk!—in his new Meet Mickey Mouse character greeting location.
http://d23.disney.go.com/news/2012/03/d ... 23_FanFare (http://d23.disney.go.com/news/2012/03/d23s-first-look-at-disneyland-paris-20th-anniversary-disney-dreams-spectacular/?CMP=EMC-eml&att=20120329_D23_FanFare%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)
What language will he be talking in though, French and English or just French?
I honestly think this is just a misunderstanding from the writer of that article, surely it's highly unlikely we'll receive talking Mickey? The amount of languages he'd have to speak would be enough alone to suggest this isn't true.
I think in America he talks? But in Europe it's a bigger problem because of the amount of languages as you say. But if he does talk it'll be in French and maybe English, I assume.
Hi when we meet Mickey and Minnie in 2009, they both talked in hugs and pointing as my 14 year old daughter had a Mickey t- shirt on and he let her know that he liked it.
Doesn't a hug and a wave say the same thing in whatever language  x
A hug and a wave is very good, too. And maybe will have to do.
Quote from: "ed-uk"I think in America he talks? But in Europe it's a bigger problem because of the amount of languages as you say. But if he does talk it'll be in French and maybe English, I assume.
Not yet, Talking Mickey is still only in the testing stage in the US. He's tested at special events and after-hour parties. There's still no sign of him in regular-use which makes it seem unrealistic we'll receive him just yet.
InsideDLParis messaged me a few weeks back saying we will not be getting a Mickey that talks. So looks like its either a prerecorded audio tape or hugs and pointing.
@ 15Magicalyears I wasn't really sure, I thought the talking Mickey might be more permantent than the testing stage. But it woudn't work so well in Europe because of all the languages anyway, maybe one day Disney will come up with technology.

This is another part of the new stuff that looks really great. Easy to see who has been involved in this! The electric LED sign may not be that much Fantasyland style, but let's not forget that it is in the british corner and after all they have the West End and so. Such a nice looking exterior design that can only build expectations for the interior.
(Just look at this and then look at the meet'n'greet locations we got last year - especially the Ratatouille one in WDS!)
Thanks for posting. The overall effect is very pleasing and even the sign with the smaller French words looks OK to me on this occasion, even if it is in the British corner.
I'm generally very positive about the styling of the facade (and particularly the sign, where they really messed up with the Princess Pavilion), but one thing bothers me a little: it doesn't really appear to make sense? If it's a theater, why has the ticket booth been replaced by an informative sign and why doesn't the venue have a name? Why don't the signs announce Mickey's show? Where in Britain are we?
I realize that they want people to know what they're walking into, but this shouldn't lead them to forget that they should be telling a story.
At the Magic Kingdom, the big permanent sign reads "Town Square Theater." The "Meet Mickey Mouse" element is on a fabric banner that appears to be temporary. That seems to make a lot more sense...
But banners might be coming, I don't know. Just a shame about the ticket booth...
I think it turned out rather nice. I'm just worried that the story of the magic show isn't very obvious from the exterior.
But I can't wait to see the details that Imagineering have added to the queue. :D
Seriously hoping this really will be ready before May now. I have a feeling it will be but I dont want to get my hopes up
Will Meet Mickey Mouse be strictly for young kids, or will it have things that adults and couples can enjoy? Is there stuff to see and watch inside, even if you don't meet Mickey Mouse?
Quote from: "Alan"Will Meet Mickey Mouse be strictly for young kids, or will it have things that adults and couples can enjoy? Is there stuff to see and watch inside, even if you don't meet Mickey Mouse?
No, it's a meet & greet. Once you step inside the front doors you are in line to meet the mouse. The magic posters and cartoons projected on the stage are to entertain the people in the queue.
Oh. That's a shame. I mean, it's great for kids, but it doesn't really add much to the Disneyland Paris experience for everyone else, other than a nice exterior.
I'm 28 but I know I'll end up queueing for it just to see what its like. I'm going with friends this summer so I won't have kids with me....usually that doesn't bother me at all but I'm not sure what to expect with this?? If Mickey doesn't talk (which I'm assuming he won't) I'm going to have to make conversation, which might be a little bit awkward..... :?
I want to meet him though!
Even though you can meet Mickey in other places around the resort I'd still queue up for this.
You can see the sign for Meet Mickey Mouse lit up at night in this photo of Dreams!:

I'm 19, a guy, and I am so excited for this! Don't think it's a matter of age.
I met Mickey for the first time ever at his temporary location on Sunday. It was great fun.
We got a tour of Meet Mickey Mouse with Imagineer Laurent Cayuela on Saturday. Here's a few first reactions:
I still have reservations about the exterior (and pussinboots has just added a few more), but the interior: wow, it's really quite gorgeous. Plush carpets, gleaming golden railings and a really stunning re-dressing of the stage, which now has two theatre box seats either side. It's recognisable as Fantasy Festival Stage, yet unrecognisable in its feel. It feels like a real theatre rather than a theme park stage. The specially-made lights which hang above the "audience" waiting line are especially nice, and Laurent explained the stage now has three huge curtains of varying styles (Venetian, Roman and I forget the third..), which all open in different ways to reveal the projection screen behind.
As you step up into the "backstage" section, the smart décor changes to bare bricks. Mickey's dressing room itself has all the recognisable props from the Florida attraction, with endless in-jokes (like a bag of Tuppence). There's so much to take in there. After the meet 'n' greet room, there's an extra little photolocation of magic show props (an escape tank and a saw), placed at the side of the stage, before you head back to the souvenir photo desk.
It takes all the nice ideas of the Florida attraction and then puts them in a real theatre, making it that much more of an experience. I still wish they'd take the simply unnecessary French subtitle off the marquee, but otherwise it's a perfect, fitting and very well executed addition, even in unfinished state. It turns the theatre from an all-too-frequently dead space into a real asset. Someone could visit the attraction and never know it was Fantasy Festival Stage, it feels like it was planned and built to be this all along.

I totally agree!
I've been a couple of times so far, as we are working on part of it.
I think it looks amazing so far, everyone is/has done a great job.
I think everyone is going to love it. I normally can find something negative to say, although I can't with this one. Maybe the only thing is it makes me sad to see it is so 'fixed', I don't think it will ever be a 'real stage' again. I've performed for hours on that stage and it's sad to think that it is official gone... But it is great! :-)
It sounds intruiging. Like I asked before, will you be able to just go in there and enjoy the interior and all its details WITHOUT meeting Mickey?
It looks and sounds like a great use of the stage. It doesn't address the issues that Disneyland Paris needs a proper in door theatre venue to stage new production shows on instead of using something like the videopolis. But it does at least provide some use for this empty venue and finally provide a permanant meet & greet location for Mickey Mouse. I really hope the rumoured date of May 17th still goes ahead. Since I'll be at the Resort to check it out in person. But no more having to wait outside on a cold Main Street in December to see Mickey. You can now meet him and enjoy cartoons and check out lots of cool details. And for this 30 year old its another great excuse to get you picture taken with Mickey :)
So, in the story of the attraction, is the theatre still called the Fantasyland Festival Theatre?
Quote from: "Alan"It sounds intruiging. Like I asked before, will you be able to just go in there and enjoy the interior and all its details WITHOUT meeting Mickey?
Not really to be honest, I suppose if it's not too busy you could go and have a look through the front door and see the queue line...
Sounds really cool inside, looking forward to this attraction!
I'm guessing you can take photos of the props etc while waiting to see Mickey?
Of course, although the props he was referring too are after you meet mickey, but the theatre is pretty enough for photos too!

If the layout is similar to the WDW version (which most are saying it is) there are props in the room where you meet Mickey then there are also props and photo-spot opportunities after you meet Mickey.

Yes, the majority of the props are in Mickey's dressing room. I wondered about this myself - there's so much to take in there that you'd have to hold up the queue and possibly ignore Mickey to see it all!
There's not really much to see in the theatre section, besides posters and the theatre decoration itself, beautiful as it is. I impressed how real the whole experience of "stepping backstage" felt and the way they told that visually. Obviously helps a lot having a real theatre!
Quote from: "Malin"It looks and sounds like a great use of the stage. It doesn't address the issues that Disneyland Paris needs a proper in door theatre venue to stage new production shows on instead of using something like the videopolis.
Agreed, they need a signature stage show (and a new theatre with adequate capacity) to go with their parade and nighttime spectacular now. Laurent did emphasise several times that the stage is still there and still a functional stage in Meet Mickey Mouse though. I'm not sure what he was suggesting, but perhaps they could have live music or other acts while people are waiting, instead of constant cartoons?
All that sounds so interesting! I`m looking forward to see this. Even if it is still a long time till october.... [-o<
... I`ll definitly will be hoovering around taking photos !!

Here are a couple of videos...
First some exterior shots of the real Meet Mickey Mouse in Fantasyland, seen on 31st March when they temporarily removed the walls to let the preview tour groups in, and again on 2nd April when the skies were bluer but the walls returned (with notices pointing all the way to Frontierland!):

It's nowhere near as much of an "experience" as the actual attraction is going to be, but I do think it's much nicer meeting characters in these more private spaces. I would have never met Mickey if it meant queueing up on Town Square and having people in the queue stare at me while posing for the photo...
Only downside (besides the gravel around the queue line, which kids kept playing with while their parents watched!?) is the very very short background music loop. I still have it in my head now. The Fantasyland Meet Mickey won't have an area loop according to what we were told, just the sounds of the cartoons playing in the queue.
If the Fantasyland location is only for Mickey, it'd be quite nice if Minnie or some of the other gang stayed here.
Oh and here's the Photos Magiques write-up of the Hard Hat Tour, including more photos of the exterior: http://www.photosmagiques.com/blog/2012 ... key-mouse/ (http://www.photosmagiques.com/blog/2012/04/05/20th-anniversary-press-weekend-hard-hat-tour-of-meet-mickey-mouse/%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)

Ah...that would make sense actually. Hadn't thought about that.
Althought it will seems a bit strange to know that there will be 3 available Mickeys.... But sure it will be better for having a shorter queue line!
I don't think you'll get any hint of this in the attraction. Good ol' Disney trickery like[spoiler:t98ijyk3]the choice of doors in Phantom Manor queue[/spoiler:t98ijyk3]
Ok, fine then.
In this Meet n' Greet, it will be also possible to get autographs from Mickey? And by the way, you can only get autographs if you have the "official autographs block note" and pen bought in the shops of the resort, or it is possible to have an autographs just with a normal piece of paper and a pencil?

You can get an autograph , ofcourse. You don't need to a book and a pencil , but it has to be hard enough so the character can write on it.

Hi, if it's anything like in the Princess Pavilion you'll be able to take your own pictures but there will be a professional there too. I'm not sure if it was done on purpose to encourage photo sales but in the Pavilion the lighting is quite poor and our own photo's didn't turn out too well (mind you, we were just using our iPhone4's) whereas the professional ones turned out great!
Hope this helps.

I'm glad to see this posted as for our trip in November I was planning to buy hardback notebooks (A5 size) to take with us to save a little money while we're there.
Thanks!
I am also glad to read this; I think that I will take a small notebook from home in my next visit.
Since it will be possible also to take our pictures, how many minutes will last the meeting with Mickey? I know that maybe it's too early for such informations....
When we met the princesses, the princess (Belle in our case) talked to my children for over 5 minutes but we were not rushed at all and it was me that said it was time to leave as lots of other people were waiting.
Opening on 16th May still on? Thank you!
Yes, confirmed for 16th May, next Wednesday!

Your thoughts and first impressions?
The theming looks absolutely incredible! Going back to the old days of investing in quality!
Fantastic! I actually think our Meet Mickey looks better than the counterpart in WDW. If Dlp are going to focus on characters I'm glad they are at least putting this much effort and detail in to the experience.
Not really my cup of tea but it does look quite impressive, especially the lobby. I was wandering, are the pics on the wall displayed as photos or paintings?
Cant wait to go and visit this it looks quite amazing!
I like the "Hippo/Gator Ballet" on the Rehearsal Schedule :)
I'm amazed by how faithful it is to the Walt Disney World version - which is an excellent thing in terms of quality, but, In my mind, also a bad thing.
It was perhaps naive of me, but I half-expected them to tailor the design slightly more to the whimsical style of Fantasyland - the resulting design feels positively Main Street to me. From a designers point of view, the broad, bright, opera-house style conflicts with the relative wrought iron hammer beams of the roof.
However this is me being pernickety - it's a great addition to the park, and a fantastic use of the theatre. It's also nice to share another attraction with WDW.
I like it! We just need a talking Mickey now ;)
Quote from: "Columbiad"I'm amazed by how faithful it is to the Walt Disney World version - which is an excellent thing in terms of quality, but, In my mind, also a bad thing.
Well that stage was only meant to be temporary, anyway. You might see it go in 20 years. :P
It does look very nice inside - would have been nice to have a slightly different styling than WDW (Like Cal has Mickey's house) But still - Looking good and I cannot wait to see it soon.
I've posted my own album up if anyone cares to see. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 1c99e19bb1 (http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150794791960685.394001.676965684&type=3&l=1c99e19bb1%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)
I love all the attention to detail. But I question how quickly this attraction is going to fall apart. I visited on the opening day and already started to see stickers peeling off the lugage. Also interesting to note that the Cartoons shown are back to back English and French. And once the cycle of cartoons is shown it shows the French dub cartoons in English and the English ones in French. And I believe the voices used are from the current voice actors.

Wow! Thanks for posting the photo's! Was the waiting time always 60 minutes plus?? thanks
I was wondering if anyone is back from DLP who has done the meet and greet for Mickey Mouse. We are going next week, with a Mickey obsessed 3 year old boy so meeting Mickey is our no1 plan.
I was wondering if anyone can tell me the average wait time for him, as we'll also have a 14 mth old who mightn't be as patient to see the man himself!! Is there a good time of the day to queue, when it might be quiter than others? Thanks in advance for your help
I haven't experienced the new meet mickey attraction yet but I'm sure I read the average wait is 45/60mins. Although the good thing with this new location is the cartoons in the queue which should hopefully make it a little less boring for the kids (and big kids!).
The best chance of a short queue is probably early morning or later just before it closes which I'm sure is about 7-ish.
Thanks for your help!
We've been there last week. We went to see Mickey every day. Waiting times were no longer than 25 - 45 min.
The cartoons run about 50 min. Then they start again, changing from french to english and vice versa. Means, one time you see the french version of the cartoon, next round the english one. For example The little whirlwind (engl.), Clockcleaners (french). Next round The little whirlwind (french), Clockcleaners (english) and so on. About 10 - 15 different cartoons, but not the long version, all cut to a 3min size.
The whole theater was in great shape. No stickers peeling of or anything else.
The only thing, that is a little bit disturbing, is the people watching the cartoons and forget to walk on. Almost everybody is watching and there are big gaps in the queline.
Thanks for the informations, Reiana. Since I'm not very much into meeting characters, I'm not sureif would queue for 45 minutes.
Well. I think, meeting Mickey is a bit different from meeting all the other characters running around in the park. Meeting Mickey is very privat. No rush, no hurry. Only 5 or 6 people behind you, because they only let a hand full of visitor ( 2 or 3 families) into the meet and greet area. It's behind a closed door and you can't hear the noises from outside (the theater).
You can almost take as much time as you want to, to have fun with Mickey. He is really only there for you. Only a castmember and a photographer are with you in the room. And nobody says "time over" or forces you to leave or something like that. You even have time to take your own pictures.
We had 3 japanese girls in front of us and it took them almost ten minutes to have their pictures taken with Mickey. Mickey was very patient.
I think it is a good thing to have a meet and greet with Mickey this way. It's much better than the meet an greet at Main Street.

Id read rumours of a fastpass for this but I find it hard to believe and havent heard a mention of it since.
This may be a silly question, but as we now have this 'meet mickey' attraction does that mean that Mickey is less likely to appear in meet and greets on Main Street/Caeys Corner or over in the Studios Park or in the restaurants? I know this probably isnt the case I ws just wondering.
I do like the idea of getting a bit of time with Mickey- I have 3 children and it gives them all an opportunity to get a bit of time with the Mouse himself and opportunity to take photos without being hassled and as my son loves the characters but his nerve tends to go once he gets nearer to them this will be more relaxed and he wont feel so intimadated perhaps.

In the park, you can only see him at Meet Mickey, now. You can still see him at Cafe Mickey and the hotels, though. ;)
Thanks for your response- I was thinking that may be the case cheers.
How big are the "meeting groups"? If you are alone, you can't meet Mickey alone, but only with other guests?
I think, it is a max from 6-8 people. You enter a small room, with Mickeys props from his cartoons. Magic books, a crystal orb and so on and a gigant trunk with stickers from the other Disney Parks and the DCL.
There is only a small gap between the trunk and the wall, were a castmember is waiting. This CM tells you when to go on. The you pass the gigant trunk an meet Mickey. All alone, execpt for the fotographer and a second CM. The other people have to wait behind the trunk til your finished. You can only have a sneek peek at Mickey while waiting absolutely next in line. All other people in the room can't see anything, only hear. But it is very quiet.
It possible, have a look at my facebook fotos, you can see the room and the props. Even with a Hidden Mickey.

Thanks Reiana!! Pity, I don't have a facebook account, so I can't see your pictures. How many times did you spend in the queue lines? And how many times did you spend with Mickey?
I was dreading we would be crammed into that small room with Mickey.
I didn't really get photos of the tiny area where you meet Mickey - but here's the photos I took on the 1st June.

Also - we had to wait 3 hours till our photos were available at the Kodak Shop on Main-street as we wanted to wait and buy them all in a pack.
We went to Meet Mickey and there was no official photographer; altho a kind CM took some photo's for us. We were really disappointed that the photographer wasn't there; especially as it was evident he had just "clocked off" as whilst we were exiting we noticed lots of people collecting their official photo's.
We also found no official photographer at the Santa Fe for photo's with Donald on the last day!
Youd think the official photographer would always be around with the prices they charge for the photos!
We have no official photographer in Studios on place with Minnie on our trip! Very bad - i want official photo with her...
But in "Meet n Greet" with Mickey we have official photographer 3 times we come there. Nice time with Mickey - short, but nice! I was so nervous i forget how looks this "backround" to details :)

That's what we thought too!
Do DLP still do the photo offer where you save some money. Instead of paying for the photo each time at full price you could buy a deal for 5 photos where by you got 1 or 2 free. I hope this makes sense- I dont think Im explaining it very well lol

I think I saw this kind of thing offered. Altho due to the lack of Disney photographers we never really looked into this - we came back with 2 character photo's as opposed to at least the usual 4 or 5 we buy!

I got this last year as there were photographers at all the meet and greets plus the on ride photos.
Going in December this year so i assume there'll be official photographers at the Christmassy meet and greets :?
My son is really looking forward to seeing Mickey in his own theater. Last time we went to Disneyland he didn't want to go up to Mickey as he got bombarded by mainly pushy parents forcing their kids on him and it really put my son off so we just walked away. I think it's a great idea and I can't wait to go!! I don't tend to buy official pictures and I just take them myself as my son seems to have a 'Chandler' effect to cameras (for all those Friends fans that will get what I mean by that LOL).
What do you mean about this new "2D" signature on building? Is this permanent? I hope for original for our trip next week...

Hey everyone, I am off to DLP in oct with the girls in my family - does the meet Mickey Mouse have a fast pass? Xx
No, I'm afraid it does'nt.
How long would you expect to be waiting to Meet Mickey in October on a Saturday?
So is this just a temporary thing for the 20th?
Hello, where i can find music from Mickeys area plays on backround, please? Or what name of this music, please?
I mean both music in the video...
[youtube:rlqvzlqc]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTJonx3E8uU&feature=player_detailpage[/youtube:rlqvzlqc]
Anyone for second music in the room with Mickey, please?
I just found a cool video of the stage in the waiting area being used as an actual stage with a live band, pretty interesting!
