Disney and More (//http://disneyandmore.blogspot.com/2011/02/disneyland-paris-introduces-next-june.html) released a great article about the "Mickey's Princesses & Pirates Party".

Last week, in my previous DLP update, i let you know about the upcoming Peter Pan show in Adventureland as well as the new Princess meet and greet in Fantasyland. Well, in addition to these, Disneyland Paris will launch in June a new kind of party, the "Mickey's Princesses & Pirates Party".
These Mickey's Princesses & Pirates Party will happen on June 1, 10, 17 and 24th between 8pm and 11pm. Just like the big Halloween party these new Princesses & Pirates Party will be special evenings (if i can say, considering that sunset in June is not before 10.30pm) and will begin after the park closed for normal guests who don't have special tickets for the party. Ticket price will be 25€ per guest, free for children under 3.

The title - Mickey's Princesses & Pirates Party - is a tribute to WDW "Disney's Pirates & Princesses Party" event, although it won't be comparable. In an answer to guests requests DLP has decided to create an event more adapted to young children who will be able to meet their favorite Disney characters as well as Jack Sparrow in an intimate and family evening. The party program has been thought for young kids with no attractions which have a height limit to make sure all children will have a magical evening.
In Adventureland, children will have fun with Captain Hook, Monsieur Mouche, Peter Pan, Wendy and the pirates during 20 minutes sessions and will also meet Jack Sparrow near Pirates of Caribbean. In Fantasyland, the "Royal Academy" will teach them all that a young children needs to know to behave in a royal manner, and kids will receive a "royal diploma". The evening will end with a surprise private parade with five floats of the afternoon parade and all the beloved characters.
All along the evening Disney characters will also meet the guests in Aventureland and Fantasyland, and this include: Minnie (Princesse Costume), Dingo (Pirate), Donald (Costume Pirate Costume), Aurora & Prince Philip, Ariel & Prince Eric, Belle, Pocahontas & John Smith, Tiana & Prince Naveen, Raiponce & Flynnd, Snow White and her Prince, Alice & the White Rabitt, Mary Poppins & Bert, Mulan, and Tinkerbell. Each children will also receive a special book that he will have to fill with special stickers and characters autographs all along the evening.

Here are the ride which will stay open during these party, until 11pm: Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan's Flight, It's a Small World, Mad Hatter's Tea Cups, Dumbo the flying elephant, Les Voyages de Pinocchio, Snow White, Le Carrousel de Lancelot.
If you're planning to visit the park in June with young children these new Mickey's Princesses & Pirates Party might be fun for them!

Thanks for posting this,
I honestly don't know what to feel about the article because the way it's described sounds like it excludes Adult disney fans or anyone who doesn't have children. It makes it sound like everything in disneyland isn't child friendly so they have to go out of their way to do this "esp for children" type thing? Am I not mistaken that the reason "mickey's not so scary halloween parties" were introduced was to make halloween parties that were more child friendly? Don't get me wrong, I do think this will be a nice addition to the summer season and its nice that its kid friendly of course... but I don't like how adults are excluded in the way the article advertises the event..even though i know it doesnt stop adults going to the evenings if they want.
As someone who has been a disney fan for their whole life but never got to go as a child, I just feel I have as much right to enjoy Disney as children and children have as much right as me.
I know parents are probably gonna kill me for saying that lol !
We have been to Disney's Pirates and Princess Party at the Magic Kingdom at WDW and it was an amazing evening. The whole park with all attractions and not just two lands was open.
That evening was the highlight of our two weeks at WDW, but the tickets were about $70 per person. The CMs were dressed and acted as pirates, the parade was altered to match the pirates and princess theme and the fireworks was just amazing. It looked like Disney wanted to blow up the castle. You will never see such a firework in Paris.
I don't know what to think about this party in Paris, since it is aimed towards children, like the whole resort at the moment. I'm pretty sure it's just a cheap copy of the Florida version.
I'm sure the party will be good, I enjoyed the Paris version of MNSSHP. However I think if they really want to draw crowds in, then they need a crowd pleaser, and the obvious thing to me which is missing from the parties is an instant crowd favourite. Fireworks.
I don't get this, I know they're expensive to run, but imagine, with a theme like Princesses and Pirates, then you could have a battle to conquer the skies between Aurora's Good Faries, and Jack Sparrow. Instant storyline, and instant reason for me to book this hard ticketed event!
Oh well, I guess a 5 float version of the parade will please people who don't expect more for an event they pay more for. Much like evening Extra Magic Hours, I really want these parties to take off, they add to the 'Disney magical' experience beyond belief, but currently they just don't offer enough for make them something to travel for!
I'll anxiously await reviews, from what I remember MNSSHP has gone from strength to strength over the years it has run for, so hopefully this will do the same!
I just wish they would extend the hours and entertainment for all until 11, you know, like when the park opened, or WDW in June, or like Disneyland almost throughout the year. £88 for 3 hours for a family of 4, in only two lands, is just poor IMHO. Not cool.

At WDW the park was open until 1am and guests could ride every attraction and many restaurants stayed open as well. I made a mistake in my previous post, the tickets were $36 per person and not $70. I just found the bill.
Now I realized what a bad deal it is at DLRP. There you pay €25 per person for 8 attractions and character meet and greets, while at WDW the whole MK was open until 1am and not until 11pm.
At WDW every guest got a small bag to collect "treasures" at certain places around the park. You can magine that was very popular by kids. They had special offers for taking pictures with Captain Jack Sparrow and of course we got one, too. Disney also handed out special treasure park maps and released limited edition pins for the Pirates and Princess Party. That evening was definately worth the money. Even the CMs had a lot of fun.
I like the basic idea of an extra event, as a fun thing for families to do and also as a way for DLP to make money without relying on tacky merchandise.
However, I agree that fireworks or more rides being open would provide more of a draw to the events. Notice I said "for families" above - I'll be at DLP on 17th June with 2 friends (we are all in our early 20s) but I won't be going to this event, because its very clearly marketed for children.
It does seem as though Disney are responding to feedback though, and I think that the families who go will have a lovely time. They're maybe just missing a trick by giving it such narrow appeal.
I have tickets for the first Princess and Pirate Party, am looking forward to it very much, will post a report afterwards. In the meantime I shall reserve judgement!
Sounds like a lot of fun!
Now please bring Tinkerbell out for normal meet and greets aswell please.
Now that I have thought even more about this, what annoys me greatly is that this is mainly a kiddy party too, but at 8-11. How many kids stay up that late? another annoyance.
Yes, if the whole park was open and they had fireworks, maybe it'd be ok, but it just feels like more milking going on. Like I say, these are the hours and entertainments the other parks around the globe get normally, and yet we have to pay extra. Madness. If they raised every ticket by a couple of Euros and the AP's by 10-20% and offered this sort of stuff all the time, I would be much happier.
After experiencing Disney's Pirates and Princess Party at WDW, I don't get excited about that kiidy party at all, especially not for nearly the same price we had to pay in Florida with a fraction of offers.

Many will hate me for that, but I think the tickets at DLRP are too cheap compared to other Disney resorts. But in terms of quality maybe the price is okay. The Austrian DLP site says 54 Euros for an adult ticket with Park Hopper Option. At WDW a single park ticket is $82 (=60 Euros). In my opinion a raise in ticket prices should be considered by the management in the future. I think it would be better to lower food prices and raise ticket prices.
agreed, but only as long as we get the same level of entertainment, good maintenance and decent park hours (without the staggered opening and closing hours of attractions).

Of course the quality has to improve as well. The staggered opening and closing hours of attractions shouldn't happen at the moment either. That's one of the most annoying things happening at DLRP.
Or if they are going to have the audacity to do it, at least let people know before the walk over to the attraction, or save it for later. With little legs this is particularly an issue.
Heck even Walt Disney once famously told off park management when everything was not opened.

Here here! The orientation on children alone, instead of *everyone*, pisses me off. :(
just booked the tickets for the second party. we have never been to an after hours event before and wonder if anyone could tell me which restaurants, if any, would probably be open and till what time. thanks
Me and my friend have just got our tickets for the last party (24th June). I agree that it does seem to be aged at kids but we are both big kids at heart :ears: I think we are looking forward to meeting all the characters since hopefully it won't be as busy as during the daytime hopefully [-o<
Sad news for all planning to go to the party... All 4 Mickey's Princesses & Pirates Parties have been CANCELLED.
An official statement will be send soon to everyone who bought tickets .

why? And stupid show stops are still in? :? It is really bad "Magical Moments Year"... :(
:( really disappointed, still never mind. I suspect a combination of money issues and poor bookings. Although bookings would have been better had they promoted it more.
I really feel sorry for all the people who wanted to go there, but I'm not surprised that it got cancelled. I can imagine that the ticket sale was very poor. Where was the party advertised? Was it even advertised? Did anyone see a promotion for that party? It's always the same with DLRP, no advertising, no people. It seems the public relations department will never learn it.
The next thing is, that nearly everyone tries to get informations about an event, especially when an extra ticket has to be bought. People search for infos in the internet and then they will find some about the Pirates and Princess Party at WDW. They will compare the offers and realize that the Paris' party isn't worth the money.
I have attended the party at WDW and it was amazing. Like I have said before, the whole MK was open, not only two lands, nearly every shop and restaurant was open and they did a treasure hunt for children, offered limited edition pins and sold special Pirates and Princess Mickey Ears. There was a special parade and the best Disney fireworks we have ever seen. The party started at 7pm and ended at 1am and we payed the same prize like in Paris.
I hope that people who bought tickets will get a special offer, like a free meal, because of the cancellation, but when it comes to Paris I doubt that.
I think they can get their money back with return of tickets because the event has been cancelled. I doubt they will get a free meal.
The official statement:
"Mickey's princesses & pirate parties planned for June 1, 10, 17 and 24 are being cancelled due to a delay in the refurbishments in certain lands of the park.
Guest should call 08448008111 for a ticket refund"
Sorry guys.
:-(
Update: if you have booked the pirate & princess party you should receive an invite to a meet and greet with the princesses which will take place in hurricanes! (not quite the same but it's something).
Offering more than just a refund?!! When was the last time dlp did this?
Have you seen people on the DISboards getting really irate lol? Ok yes it was cancelled but even with DLP offering a refund and a meet and greet (for free) in Hurricanes is still not enough for some people.
i suppose that a free drink and a queue to meet the princesses doesnt really amount to much if you have specifically booked a holiday for the original event and promised your child a magical after hours party.
I just read the bad news that they cancelled Mickey's Prinsesses & Pirates Party. I'm SO disappointed! We planned our hole trip around this event. I haven't told my kids yet - they were really looking forward to this event.

Nicoledlrp: I agree 100%!

Maybe not but at least they are offering something. They didn't have to do anything.
woopiedoo for disney !!! the lady i spoke to on the telephone informed me that the princess and pirate meet and greet is a free for all regardless of whether you had already booked tickets or not so not really any sort of compensation. maybe they will push the boat out and give us all extra large soft drinks - i suppose that it would be too much to hope for a souvenir plastic cup. and by they way i think that disney owes it to the kids to do something, for them the magic is real, not an event subject to cancellation.
We had also booked our trip around the party, my 4 and 6 year olds were very disappointed, however when I told them the reason it was cancelled and that Disney had very good reasons for cancelling they were fine.

I'm not sure who you spoke to but from what I have been told only those who had tickets will be able to access the meet and greet in hurricanes.
Everything in Disney is subject to cancellation, I went DLP at Xmas once just to see Fantillusion and because of the snow it was cancelled EVERY night, yeah I was annoyed, my daughter devasted but these things happen. Safety first.
suites, vip and castleclub department gave me the info about the party being cancelled and the new "non-event " (their description not mine) . we have also had our share of last minute cancellations over our many trips to disney, but this is our first "in advance" cancellation. dont think we will book for halloween just incase it gets spooked too !!!!!
BREAKING NEWS FROM DLP...... we regret to inform guests that christmas 2011 will be cancelled due to an anticipated outbreak of swine flu at the north pole. santa claus is pig sick at the decision made by the elf and safety department, but wants to reassure all guests that they will receive a complimentary jacket potato at a meet and greet with oogie boogie from nightmare before christmas.
Quote from: "nicoledlrp"dont think we will book for halloween just incase it gets spooked too !!!!!
That's not going to happen. You could list the reasons why these particular parties weren't very well thought-through -- in fact I think most people already did, on the first page of this topic! (Although of course according to Disney, it was only the overrunning refurbishments which caused the cancellation...)
If I had booked tickets, I'd be a little annoyed that the consolation "non-event" is apparently taking place from 5pm to 8pm. The original event was scheduled to
begin at 8pm, and since the park closes at 7pm you'll be missing time you've paid for if you leave early just for this. Meal vouchers for a table service or buffet might have been nicer. It would have reminded people less about the event they
could have been enjoying.
just joking about halloween !! we are hopefully going to europa parc then. i feel the same adout the timing and i think your idea about meal vouchers is really good . i suppose that will never happen though !!
Can anybody help?
We booked our holiday at the beginning of the year and specified that we wanted tickets for the princess & pirates party as my daughter is the biggest princess out there!! ( each year we go we are carrying 7/8 princess dresses around with us so she can have a photo with a princess wearing the right dress!!)
However I have just received my tickets and the princess party is not on there. I have called them and they have said that I hadn't booked for this. Obviously the party has been cancelled but we would have wanted to go to this party at hurricanes. She has never had the chance to meet Pocahontas or Mulan and this seems like the only way that she would have been able to do this.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
Went to the party at Hurricanes last week, and my advice would be to avoid it. We were given a letter about the cancellation when we checked in, which then had to be shown at the door to the nightclub. Inside they had a Princess meet and greet set up with Snow White / Sleeping Beauty / Belle / Cinderella alternating in pairs, and a Pirate meet and greet with Captain Hook. Also Goofy and Donald were around. The bar was open with selection of sandwiches and cakes also available (free of charge). Sounds ok so far?
However they also seemed to still be treating it as a nightclub, with very loud (ie couldn't hear or talk to anyone) disco music playing accompanied by strobe lightning. Our kids (5 and 3) would have enjoyed the meet and greet but couldn't stand the music. Perhaps if it had been quieter or even perhaps some Disney themed music would have been more appropriate.
I appreciate they didn't have to put anything on, but basic errors ruined what could have been a decent experience.
Perhaps others with older children, would have been ok.
It seems incredible that Disney could make such a basic error, what sort of people do they employ that think that ANYONE who had booked for Pirates and princesses would want loud disco music at such an event, they just seem to lose the plot more as time goes by, Walt must be looking down thinking "not in my name, for gods sake"
What people are running Disneyland Paris? Did anyone enjoy the meet and greet at Hurricanes? I can't believe they are doing such a stupid thing. Disneyland Paris definately need better employees for such things.
I think it all comes down to the Entertainment Department being run by incompetence incarnate. I mean, come on, what have they done in the last few years?
- the stage on Central Plaza while the other stages are left deserted
- rather mediocre shows on the very same stage where you can only see anything from certain angles
- the castle decorations during Mickey's Magical Party
- that Stitch Disco Thingy
- Goofy's Summer Camp
- stupid show stops in an otherwise perfect parade
- a (more or less) repainted character train every year
- meet and greet areas, some ok, some hideous, but presented as some kind of not to be missed event
- and now this complete Princesses/Pirates party/meet and greet fiasco
i hope that everyone files a complaint with City Hall so that management finally may rethink the entertainment policy, but my fear is that loads of people are happy with everything as long as characters are involved.
There is nothing to add.
The entertainment department has a problem to do it right. They should ask at WDW how to do a wonderful pirates and princess party. I've experienced first hand it was amazing.
I assume that no one complains about that stuff.
Video from this "party" looks VERY ugly, boring and stupid! :( Please, bring back new time for DLP with 20th Anniversary! Please!! Thank you!
We loved the hurricanes event. We met snow white, Cinderella, jack sparrow, mickey, Minnie, Donald, goofy, hook and smee.
The food and drink was great and although the music was too loud it was great fun.
