Title: Disney Dance Express (2011)
Post by: Festival Disney on January 11, 2011, 09:34:23 PM
Character Central has revealed some interesting facts about the charecter train for this year's Magical Moments Festival!
QuoteThe All Star Express will not be stopping for meets anymore - it will be like Move it, Shake it in the Magic Kingdom, and will have a live host, dancers and just the Fab 5 and friends – not the random fare seen in the past when it used to be the Character Express. I have been told it will stop halfway up Main Street to party. The music is expected to be a remix or very similar to Move It, Shake It.

That should be brilliant! I really enjoyed Move It, Shake it! Hopefully Paris use it tactically like they do at MK, and roll it out if they need to draw people to Main Street to shorten queue lines elsewhere.

I'm a bit more excited for the festival now that it's looking like it'll turn into a year with a focus on entertainment!

At first I rolled my eyes before reading the original post as I knew it would be abotu that bloody train, and it just having a new colour.

But no, I will eat my hat. This sounds very, very good, and is exactly how the train should be used.

One question, who are the fab 5?

The fab 5 normally include : Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Pluto.

'And Friends' seems to usually mean Chip & Dale, Daisy and occasionally Clarice although I haven't seen her about in ages! Would be awesome to see them use Huey, Dewey and Louie/Scrooge McDuck too! It'd fill one of the carriages!

It would be pretty cool if they decided to add a new float or two, but I doubt that would happen.
Does anyone know just how similar this is going to be to Move it, Shake it? Will we see stilt walkers etc?

I loved Move It! Shake It! so when I first heard about the Dance Express, I was hoping for something similar.  Look forward to finding out what it will be like when I go back in May.

I've saw Move It! Shake it! Street Party when I was at Magic Kingdom in Disney World, Florida in September and October.
And the show just didn't appeal to me. Just seemed like some floats out in the street, and they tried to get people to dance.

Have a look at the video under and you can see the street party.

Totally agree with that! plus I think they have exhausted the character Express, I loved it for the 15th Anniversary but after that it just was over used! I don't know what I think about it being used again for this parade type thing, I can't say I am that excited by it really :?

That's... Hannah Montana's "Pump up the Party", isn't it?
I expect they aren't even thinking on using that song for the DLP parade. The parade itself looks nice, though.

Very interesting take on the train, some of it seems rather odd, the idea of the Birdie song, well what more can be said   .  However using Hairspray, now that was something I was not expecting and a rather nice change to be honest, very high tempo and just fun  .  However, the costumes of the characters look like something from a 1980's Jane Fonder workout video  .  All in all doesn't look too bad, but will reserve judgement till I see it in person.

The costumes are just disastrous, tacky on every level. And it's a shame they didn't give the train a complete make-over, it's looking worse each year with the past years decorations still in place. I'm sure the show is fun though.

OMG - they take the horsedrawn street car and vehicles off for this? The dancers are a nice touch, but more evidence that DLP is becoming more of an expensive Butlins and less of a full family themed entertainment experience I have come to expect. You know it must be bad when even the rubber head fans seem to not like it either.

What annoys me most is non Disney music in a Disney park. Did they not learn from the Stitch disaster?

My DD will love this, I will suck it up and pretend I like it to for her sake. I really was expecting a bit more. They haven't even really bothered to do anything to the train either.

....and the Chicken song?????????????????

This is possibly not massively different to some of the slightly tacky entertainments seen at Disney parks around the world for the last 30 years or so. The only difference is that they were an optional experience, in a theatre at the back of the park, not interrupting the whole of Main Street and Central Plaza with no escape.

Once the Castle Stage area has been repaved and the parade route re-opened, why can't it stop there? There's plenty of room to dance now the benches are gone. And we all know the European visitors love to join in and dance.....

I thought that it seems pretty okay. It's a shame they haven't really changed the colours or style of the train.

But maybe it will be more funny (Chicken song...?) and energising when you actually there.  :)

I also agree with littlemermaid83, I dislike the lack of Disney music. But it's not like there's no Disney songs that don't have beat. (Like in Celebrate! A Dance Party) They should use songs like "I wanna be like you" and "'Everybody wants to be a Cat". Or even the new Princess and the Frog songs.

*Shivers* Hairspray.  :?

I'm sorry, but this is just cringe-worthy... And it is just me, or does Minnie look really stupid doing all those fast modern dance moves?! She should be elegant, not cool! French Minnie's voice gets on my nerves more than English Minnie does, too.
Anyone know what the platforms on top of the first and third carriages are for?

I think the dancing is really brillaint - best dancing I've seen at DLRP, and its fantastic to see the characters move more actively (although that must be hell for the folk inside!)

I think it is very fresh and fun and does what it does on the tin. The interaction is also really fun.

It would be nice aswell if each style more accuratly reflected the character dancing, eg perhaps Minnie could do ballet, or Goofy could do somesort of nonsense song.

Quote from: "Martyn"It seems there is no pleasing some people.

It is about appropriateness of theme. This means we have to sacrifice real theming (like the horse drawn streetcar and main street vehicles). It is a show that could be on the Fantasyland Stage or Videopolis (which can be turned into a dance floor area - it was designed that way). And for the first 40+ years, it was not all about the rubberheads.

The entertianment at DLP is piss poor compared to the hallmark Disney have delivered, and some on these boards lap up this brain dead slop.

Its not a parade!

Its a "happening", a little show 3 times in the morning at... 11.15, 12.15 and 13.15 I think...
Title: Re: Disney Dance Express (2011)
Post by: littlemermaid83 on March 27, 2011, 04:21:44 PM
The interaction looks good, but I just don't like the music choices and watching Minnie trying to hip and pop is well quite embarrasing to watch.

Yes, that could have worked, maybe redecorating the old High School Musical moving stage rather than using the train. Main Street has more than enough going on during the day with the vehicles and horse-drawn streetcars (which were all out in full force the past few days, except the Omnibus as usual), it doesn't need such a brash and overpowering piece of entertainment blocking it off three times a day.

It's odd that otherwise the Magical Moments Festival seems to be about small scale entertainments which really respect a specific location and bring it to life (like the Aladdin magic lamp event hopefully will be), creating actual little intimate "moments" around every corner as Disneyland should have, and then... there's this....

Having watched both shows, this is the better of the two, I can see it being quite popular as it's more entertaining than Stitch was. And it's definately better than Disney Channel Rocks at California Adventure.

As a 'happening', it's not bad, it's pretty short, will take some crowd away from rides and I'd probably watch once or twice. As a show, I'd prefer it to happen on an actual stage, why doesn't the train drive towards Castle Stage and drop the characters/dancers off then the show happens there?
Title: Re: Disney Dance Express (2011)

That's a good idea, since the stage will only be used at night.

Oh yes, and their Disney Dance Crew show, which I was worried this would be too alike.

Quote from: "Scissorsboi"why doesn't the train drive towards Castle Stage and drop the characters/dancers off then the show happens there?
Yes! I'm glad someone agrees, that would make so much sense, wouldn't it? The only problem is that right now the parade route up there is blocked. And when the Pizzeria Bella Notte route reopens, they're moving over to the stage area and repaving all of that...

The lack of redecoration on the train itself is really disappointing. What's WALL-E doing there now?

It's not terrible, yet not particularly great, the interaction section fails to work and I can see it being cut back, or just dumped entirely as it seemed to be a Guest Flow nightmare.  The music is at least upbeat and the dancers give it their all, which is more than can be said for the rather painstakingly boring castle show.  However I fail to see what Wall-e has to do with this show   , and the train would have benefited from a slightly more, dare I say it, "modern" look to compliment the idea.  Personally I see this going down the route of our old favourites Alpha-bet-you-are and Dance time with Stitch.
Title: Re: Disney Dance Express (2011)
Post by: Anthony on April 05, 2011, 07:14:42 PM
Particularly with those costumes, it looks very "Tokyo Disneyland". I don't know, maybe that's what people come to Disneyland Paris for nowadays, but I would have thought for the majority of European guests this just looks a little too kitsch and doesn't do the image of Disneyland much favours. Now visitors will be walking up Main Street and end up completely ignoring the beautifully Imagineered buildings on either side as they're distracted by this gaudy train blasting out pop songs at the end of the street.

If it was happening at Castle Stage or Backlot I'd completely forgive it. Cast doing a great job as always.

Quote from: "Patrick"However I fail to see what Wall-e has to do with this show   , and the train would have benefited from a slightly more, dare I say it, "modern" look to compliment the idea.
I'm even thinking now that they should have quickly redecorated the old High School Musical moving stage instead and brought that across to Disneyland Park. It would have looked much smarter. After about 5 different semi-redecorations this train is looking bizarre.

Nice to see you here by the way Patrick! ;)

It's not a bad show but as what many people are asking - What have Wall-E got to do with it?

The train has been in that state since Minnie's Party Train at least have a good and proper repaint and maybe roofs where dancers can climb up on the ladders and dance on the carriage roofs! Would of sound better.

I have mixed views on this show after watching the video. I agree with everyone else who has commented, they could have updated the train and what has Wall-E got to do with it?

I like the dancers though, they have so much energy. They kind of make the whole show for me.
Not 100% sure about the costumes either, is it just me or do they look like they have stepped out of some 80's pop video?   :?

Well, having seen it live, it was not great at all. The kids were bored and so was I (and I love dance, as do they). We skipped it thereafter. Other than the photo locations, I do not like any of the offerings in this years' "celebration". A shame really.

As most of us know, the Disney Dance Express had it's last performance yesterday. Here's a video of it... I wasn't a particular fan, but the last minute of this video just shows how great the cast was, as they sing along to the transit music and wave off the train for what is very hopefully the last time.  :)
