Title: France to ban smoking in public
Post by: Anthony on October 09, 2006, 12:20:55 AM
Could this mean change is finally "in the air" for DLRP too?

Quote from: "BBC News"France is to ban smoking in all public places from next February, the prime minister has announced.

Cafes, nightclubs and restaurants are to be given until January 2008 to adapt, said Dominique de Villepin.

I suppose they'll have designated smoking areas like the US resorts?  I'm very surprised at this news actually, seems totally out of the blue.  In the UK, it's been years and years building up to our ban (which is in the next couple of years, isn't it? :?).

There was a sign outside the Sports Bar that stated: "Wednesday, October 11th Sports Bar non smoking".  8)

Ooo, that's quick!  I wouldn't be surprised if DLRP were actually happy about this.  They made all restaurants non-smoking earlier this year, and I think they've basically been too scared of the repercussions if they dared to enforce a strict ban in the parks.

Now, thanks to this law, they can go right ahead!  Blimey, French bureaucracy actually doing something to help Disneyland?  Whatever next?

Can't wait. I have a 9yr old daughter and on more than one occasion, we've been in a no smoking area thats right next to a smoking area, last thing I want is that crap in my daughters lungs.

Banish smokers outside to the wind and rain I say!! :D

/me waits for the flak........

As long as they're out in the open l don't really mind l must say.  l know how people can get when they have to wait for a smoke too long...

That's great news about the ban in France, but why can't we get one here in England! :?

Wow
It must be hard for those who smoke a lot

Do you think they are going to ban smoking in the whole park? What about the guest who smoke? Are they going to be given a place to smoke or they wouldn`t be able to smoke for a whole day? If so CM are going to have a hard time with angry cigarette hungry guests...

I think they will set up special smoking areas, like you see at airports and so on.  The US parks use that system and it seems to work well enough.  I suppose in Paris, though, they'd need a couple of areas that are under cover.

I can't see this having a negative effect on the resort even from the perspective of people who do smoke.  I think most of them accept that it isn't a good thing to be doing and it shouldn't be allowed all over a place with children so much the focus.

Butlin Boy: I think we're getting a ban in all pubs, clubs and restaurants in Summer 2007, if people stop whining about business being lost.  They have the same ban in Ireland and it seems to work great.

lf they have an area in each part of the parks maybe...

Although l'd be lying if l said that it really bothered me outside.  And l'm a non smoker just so you'd know.

Woooohooooo :)

Although I think it's much too late, I'm looking very forward to the next visit with non-smoking bars and restaurants! What about the waiting queues, is smoking allowed yet?
Title:
Post by: Miss Tinkerbell on October 10, 2006, 06:50:02 PM
l always thought it wasn't allowed to smoke in the queues

AFAIK it's not allowed, when we were queueing for peter pan in August, a CM came over and told a dutch woman to put her cigarette out. She wasn't impressed so she took her whole family out! :D

Nice one! Yeah, it's not allowed but people still do it.

For me, the worst thing is people smoking when you're waiting for the parades.  You've got there on time... found a good spot behind a few people... 15 minutes to wait.. and then they decide to light one up and blow the smoke in your face.  I'm not normally bothered much by smoking, but that is unacceptable.  I remember some woman smoking all the way through Peter Pan to the Rescue in 2004 as well... :(

Smoking in the queue lines is forbidden, as can be found in the park rules:

QuoteSmoking, eating and drinking on the rides and in the queues are forbidden.

I don't have a problem with a smoking ban in public places or other areas where people can get annoyed by someone else's smoke but there should be places where smokers can enjoy themselves.

In the park I think it's like it always has been really you are allowed to smoke outside and so on, just not in queue lines and attractions.  Also no smoking in restaurants I think was mentioned.

I don't have a problem with people smoking outdoors as it just flutters away and that, I feel, is many people's attitude to this issue. I should imagine the park will allow smoking outdoors.

I was really suprised to hear that France had imposed a smoking ban, especially with the café culture.

It doesn't just flutter away - if the wind is blowing the wrong way, you get a cloud of someone's filth in your face. Sorry, but I don't appreciate smoking and it should be permanently banned in all public places, indoors or outdoors.

I'm pleased to say it did seem to have improved a lot in March when I went and didn't really notice people smoking. It was much worse the year before with people smoking in queue lines.

... in which case you simply have to react...  It always amazes me that although it is so obvious some of the spoilers are ruining other people's days, no one ever reacts...  When something shouldn't be done, I always tend to say something, and then you see people nodding their heads agreeing with my intervention...

Why don't we all do that...  As long as you don't - respectfully and calmly - point people to their mistakes, be it smoking in queue areas or queue jumping, they don't even realise they are bothering other people.  Just say something, and it is my experience that these issues are quickly resolved :)

That's easy to say, but when people don't listen or take offence, it can quickly turn into a scene which can spoil your day.  :?

yeah I agree with you.  People can get quite funny about that sort of thing.  Try asking my mum to put her cig out, if looks could kill, I should be nothing but bones now.. lol
Title:
Post by: madame_leota on July 22, 2007, 04:04:53 PM
yep i agree with you, people can get very rude about it.

I do smoke, but not often, and i dont do it around people who dont like it or DEFENTLY not around my son or other childern. if i am smoking around someone and its bothering them i either put the cigarette out or i move. I would also not do it in que lines and things like that.

Its unfair for people to suffer because of something that someone else is doing. Lucky for me smoking is something that i can take or leave, I would personaly be perfectly happy if the they compleetly banned smoking through out the whole park but i know that so many people would be apposed to it, maybe if they just had one area in each land you could go to smoke in. I also HATE seeing ciggarette butts all over the floor, its become 100X worse since the smoking ban in england.

There should be "No smoking" signs in waiting areas like Big Thunder Mountain and Indiana Jones. Ashtrays should be removed, because many people think it must be allowed when they see them.
Title: Official no smoking signs are poping everywhere
Post by: meteor75 on July 27, 2007, 02:41:25 AM
As requested by French laws, Disney has recently introduced additional no smoking signs in all enclosed areas. These new signs comply with the French regulation, stating the fine you can get if you're lighting up in the area (68 EUR)

The idea is good, but not where smoking is not permitted.

But in Ireland the smoking ban in restaurants and bars by law is already a fact. In France you'll have to wait 'till January 2008. Now it's just a Disney law that bans smoking in restaurants. If you go to Paris there's smoke everywhere. And even in the Disco "Hurricanes" you can still smoke. Can you ?!

It is in the whole of the Uk now.

Only just in Fareham! The council here forgot to put the paperwork through! So it was still legal til Thursday!

People can still walk along the street smoking. Holding fags at hip level-child's eye level. GRRRR! My littlun is sooo subtle, he coughs when he's near someone smoking!

I think its great that there's going to be less smoking in the parks.

Quote from: "Owain"It is in the whole of the Uk now.

I know.  :D  You say that like Ireland's part of the UK.  :D

BTW:
Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Italy and Malta have similar laws AFAIK. Slovenia and some regions of Germany will follow on Wednesday ( the others until 2008 ), Denmark on August 15 and the Netherlands in July 2008. In Switzerland many regions might ban smoking too, at the moment there's only one where it's already done. Portugal will get a non smoking law, but I don't know if it will include Restaurants and Bars. In Belgium, Luxembourg and Spain there are different smoking laws, depending on the kind of public place ( in Belgium only Restaurants and bars where you can eat ), the time ( I think in Luxembourg there are even time schedules about smoking or no smoking ) and the size ( Spain bans smoking in larger Restaurants with the exception of small smoking rooms, smaller Restaurants have to sign out if they are a smoking or non smoking pub, bar, restaurant ). Austria seems to get a "Spanish" smoking ban next year. So there's something changing in Europe and I like that - of course I have nothing against smokers themselves. Don't get me wrong. I think it must be seen like Alcohol. Drink it, but don't drive a car after your visit to the Restaurant. And cigarettes: Smoke them, but not during your visit to the Restaurant, when others ( guests and waiters ) would have to inhale your smoke too.

( Off topic on )
And now the question that many of you may think about:
Why do I know that all so exactly ?
Well: Just watch "EuroNews" ( TV Channel, can be watched in 6 different languages all over Europe ) and you get taught exactly, where something is permitted or banned. There are even special reports called "Europeans" and others where you learn a lot about other European countries, their mentality, rules and laws.
( off topic stop  8) )

In Gardaland in Italy there are the "Vietato Fumare" signs with the whole text about the law and the 270 Euros you have to pay, at every corner. And the signs are hold by little green dragons (?) which makes the signs better looking. Disneyland Resort Paris should do that with Mickey Mouse or other characters.
