The rumours and leaked screenshots were true and real. An official Disneyland Paris iPhone app has just launched today and it's actually quite fantastic. Download & info: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/disneyla ... 08589?mt=8 (http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/disneyland-paris/id396908589?mt=8%22%20onclick=%22window.open(this.href);return%20false;)
QuoteDiscover Disneyland® Paris (its two parks, its hotels and Disney® Village), plan your stay, and once you are on site optimize your visit by using the interactive map, increased reality, the waiting time at the attractions and parade and show times that appear on your phone in real time.
To discover Disneyland ®Paris, the application offers you:
- The description of each park, of its attractions, shows, parades, restaurants, stores and services (ATMs, restrooms, etc)
- A multitude of advice to be well-organized once you are on site, with preferred itineraries according to your tastes (strong sensations, family adventure for example)
- The latest news (attractions or seasons) with video trailers
- The presentation of our hotels, of our different park admission tickets and show tickets, with the possibility of reserving directly through our central reservations office.
Once you are on site, the application helps you organize your visit in our parks by using, in particular:
- The interactive card: it allows you to highlight all the points of interest, such as shows, parades, restaurants, stores and services (ATMs, restrooms, etc) and to be geo-localized to make it easier to find your way around the parks.
- A search motor: symbolized by a magnifying glass on the map, it allows you to select the points of interest by criteria, be it the type of attractions (strong sensations, for little ones, etc) or even the specialties or prices of the restaurants.
- Increased reality: symbolized by the symbol 3D (for the 3GS and 4 iPhones), it allows you to see the parks through the iPhone's camera and to position the points of interest directly
- Park hours, attractions, shows and attraction waiting times are given when you are geo-localized in one of the parks.
- The schedule: it allows you to group together the attractions you do not wish to miss. A warning system is put into place and gives you the time of the shows you have reserved.
This application is rich in content. We recommend you to download it via Wi-FI connection or to use your iTunes from a computer.
The application is free. A wireless mobile connection is require to use it inside the Disney parks. Please consult the rates and fees of your operator before to use it.

OMG just in time for our trip! Thanks so much for posting about this, I'm off to get it right now and I'll add an opinion once I've played around with it, but it looks great.
Hopefully there will be an app for Android cellphones as well in the future.
OK, so far say that I am very very impressed! Firstly, its FREE :cool1:
The attraction guide is excellent, now if only the brochure looked more like this! Better photo galleries than they have on their website, especially for the hotels.
The big thing I'm excited about is a section to use whilst IN the parks, keeping you up to date with daily showtimes and live wait times for attractions! There is also an Agenda section where you can add restaurants, attractions etc into your itinerary as you go along. Great for a planner like me.
I'll be trying this out in a few days and I'll let you all know how it is. My only concern is the roaming costs of using an app like this abroad, think I'll phone Orange and ask about that.
It also seems you can use Augmented Reality within the parks, I've heard of this but never used it on my phone before so can't wait to try it.
Wow this is perfect timing for my trip, everyone with an iPhone should get it right now, it's wonderful. 10/10 Disney!
Are there any free wifi spots within the resort? Otherwise its going to be extremely expensive to use when you are there!
Anybody know?
I will never use this app because of the cost. There is no free Wi-Fi connection in the parks.
I just phoned Orange and apparently when I'm in Europe it costs £3 per megabyte, which he advised is roughly 60 emails or 90 web pages.
Does anyone know how many megabytes it will be running this app?? I'm hopeless with things like that.
I've done a video tour of the app for those who haven't got an iPhone/iPod/iPad or just haven't downloaded it yet: //http://dedicatedtodlp.wordpress.com/2010/11/03/video-tour-of-the-new-disneyland-paris-iphone-app/
Be gentle, it's the first time I''ve done a video like this!
Quote from: "loladelorean"Does anyone know how many megabytes it will be running this app?? I'm hopeless with things like that.
I'm not sure how much of the information and graphics are contained within the app or downloaded each time you use it, but I'd still strongly advise against anyone on a UK tariff using this whilst over there. It will get very expensive.
It's understandable why they don't want you to see queue times from home (120mins for Parachute Drop doesn't exactly sell the place), but still hope they find a solution to this so that you can access times and info on your mobile without using mobile data. I still think a few select wifi hotspots, at least to begin with, would be a good idea in the parks. Not proper wifi hotspots, just ones which give access only to disneylandparis.com or these apps.
Btw - whether the app
appears on Android might just be down to Disneyland Paris deciding it's worthwhile and paying for the conversion. From the credits in the app it looks to have been designed or at least helped along by PureAgency (//http://www.pureagency.com/expertise), who do list - "iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, Windows..". So it's possible at least.
I've had another play through the app and it really is fantastic for a first effort. And unlike that official "Mobile Magic" app for the US parks, which costs something stupid like $9.99 for 180 days, it's completely free! =D>

Great point in there about the information (dates, times) being much easier to find in the app than on the actual website!
But the iPod touch has only got wi-fi and bluetooth, so I hope there are going to be free hotspots around the parks because an iPod Touch hasn't got 3G or mobile connection. Can you acces the app wothout using the Internet? For example look on the park maps and so on.

Just tried it in Airplane Mode and everything is there except for the live information like park opening hours, whether restaurants are open or not. So if you're on iPod Touch or worried about data charges you can switch data off and use it fine... although it might only be moderately more useful than - what were they called - park maps?
So yesterday! ;)
Although hey, this also includes Shops! It's been almost 10 years since DLP stopped putting those on maps.

I hope they put hotspots in the park, otherwise it's just like the normal park maps...
The App has been designed & built by //http://PureAgency.com, a large provider of apps for major brands in Europe. I hope they plan to launch soon an Androïd Version.
Only tried it on my iPad which doesn't really do an app of that resolution justice. If i can steal an iPhone i will give it a play.

And where's the ANDROID version?? Or the WM7??
Not to start a flame war against Apple, but it's just not the only thing around :?
Especially Android is booming at the moment....

Though android is "popular" and a good OS (I have a HTC Desire running android 2.2 custom) there isn't really a mass market for it yet and certainly not Windows mobile (lol) as that has only just launched really. Android and WM haven't made a dent on iOS. Everyone has an iPhone therefore making the iOS market the key money making one to go in line with the "Theres an ap for that", if you don't have an iPhone app your not cool. Android users tend to be perfectly happy with web based stuff. That said it is easy to recompile the code (with a bit of change) over to android.
I get what you are saying, but iphone and being the only cool thing and the most sold phone is just not totally true imho.
The marketing from Apple is the best there is, that's where Steve just rocks all other guys.
But...in example HTC is knocking at the door!
And maybe it's just me, but is see more Android based foons around then that Iphone thingy. So an ANDROID app would be just very profitable ;)
Like indeed my own HTC Desire 2.2 would loveeee to have it
Like I said before, the agency lists Android and other phone systems on its website, so it is at least possible DLP will get an app made for those after assessing the success of this first version. I really hope so anyway, even if Steve Jobs is vaguely in the hierarchy of the company, though it probably won't happen for a while. I think for most developers iPhone just has the best backing, documentation, the most awareness. It's the best place to take a first step into the market and test the response.
The once glitch I've found with it, is when on "Shows" mode in Disneyland Park, when I tap The Castle Stage, it freezes and crashes.
its a pretty cool app but i wish the waiting times were available over wifi i was kinda hoping to be able to check them at Starbucks on my ipod during my next visit in december but i kinda understand why its limited to in park use
Looks good, I'll be downloading this to have a look around for sure. Just a shame that there isn't any free Wi-Fi inside the parks, and this may encourage people coming from abroad to use the app without realising the potentially huge costs they will run up doing so.
I would like to see the iPhone app used as a translation/audio description device. Set your spoken language to English, pop in your earphones, and every ride you go will have spoken dialogue in English, not in French. It would be really useful on rides like Phantom Manor and the Tower of Terror.

Android app, Google translate. Say something in french, it will spit out english text that it can read back to you. Don't think it would work well in the parks though, too much background noise so on
That's not what I meant.
I meant, given that your iPhone knows where in the parks you are, it could play back a pre-recorded dialogue track in synchronisation with the attraction. The iPhone wouldn't need to listen to the audio around it and translate it. It would simply know: your primary language, its location in the park, synchronise with the timecode of the attraction, and play back an audio file through your earphones.
So for example, rather than wearing Disney's headphones liked you used to in HISTA, you simply pop in your earphones and get the language of your choice via your iPhone.
It annoys me enough when you see people wearing headphones walking down Main Street (who are these people?! You've just paid €40+ to get in!!), would you want to encourage more people to wear headphones? Seems like a barrier between you and the park. And it'd be very hard to synchronise properly.
I would like it if the app had its own "Tips Board", just a single easy place where all the day's information can be displayed - opening hours, Extra Magic Hours, entertainment times, weather, closed attractions. Like those screens at the hotels. The app makes getting some of this info easier than the website at least, but you still have to jump through too many hoops to get the basics.
Also, actual full-screen photo galleries for the attractions would be good, even if it means a larger download.
Here is my review of the app: //http://disneyecho.wordpress.com/2010/11/11/new-official-disney-parks-app-features-augmented-reality-and-official-wait-times/
I LOVE the app! just been on it at home because now going to DLP any time soon :'( but i think its fab :) love how you can click on points where you can meet characters :) i do agree that there should be wifi hotspots in the park, i think it would be amusing to see a whole bunch of guests stood in one place on their ipods ;P hahaha <3
We tested the app this weekend, particularly the waiting times, they seemed pretty good!! Though you really need to be IN the parks to get them... Even in the Disney Village they didn't work!!
I asked whether there were any plans for an Android version on Twitter and got this reply:
QuoteAs the iPhone app is a test, we are analysing all the comments (as the wish of Androïd) to work on it during the next months.
An android version would be awesome. How ever for non French visitors the cost of the roaming is very high, and there for not interesting. (Or is an internet connection not needed?)

wow that sucks . i mean if you're already in the park isn't it easier to just check on the info board and save yourself the roaming cost ?
It didn't seem to use much data, to be honest... I meant to keep better track but of course I didn't...
We used it more when we were in a queue for a ride, to plan where to go next, for example. It was really useful! You're not always close to the information boards...

I think that is exactly what its ment for!
i have to agree with alan on the headphones idea, its really disapointing/upsetting to go to DLRP and not be able to understand anything said on the rides =[ its not really a problem but it would be a nice change for the characters on the rides to be speaking english =/
DLP posted this on their Facebook page in response to a comment:
QuoteThe iPhone version is a test for us. We are listing to all your suggestions. It's true, the blackerry/Androïd applications are asked by many of our visitors!
The Android version has just been released! It's nearly identical to the iPhone app as you can tell from these screenshots.
Although the screenshots are in French, the language of the app can be changed to English as well.

I hope they'll make a Windows Phone app, too. But to be honest, we've never really needed to use this app. I know my way round the park. XD
i think its a great idea for an app, and i would love to use it (Android phone), but if it has to connect to a data network to function properly then that means anyone not from France (ie. me) will be hit with heavy data charges for using the internet on their phone whilst abroad
I'm so happy its finally come to Android!! Does it have an option to listen to the Disney Village radio?
Quote from: "Meph"I hope they'll make a Windows Phone app, too. But to be honest, we've never really needed to use this app. I know my way round the park. XD
Yeah but having access to the waiting times from both parks during any time of the day is quite usefull. :D
ooh i like the look of this although i wont be using it whilst in disney due to the data charges but itll be nice to have a look at to see if its any good
I'm surprised no-one has posted Steve's excellent video review of the Disneyland Paris for Android app. It looks identical to the iPhone app in screenshots, sure. But what about how long it takes to load/draw the maps, and how responsive it is to your touch? Still identical? Nope.

It does that!? I wish I knew that earlier. XD
someone said that it can be in English too. Why can't i find that? It's only in French :(
Mine is in English and I can't find an option to change the language to anything else but English. Maybe it depends where you are when you download it as to what language version you get?
It's good
Downloaded it last year it's good but me it's keeps crashing on the hotel section
It's improved with the update they rolled out since I did that video, but I never got to use it actually in DLP as I couldn't get a data connection. I'd love all the wait time info to be available when you are outside the resort too - I'd find that quite fascinating. I'd also like to see them have an actual booking module as part of the app.
Hi Have the Disney wait time app on my phone - its the only thing it does, but I am currently looking at it daily from Holland to get an idea of how busy it is prior to my arriving :D
@PirateSteve
I agree. You should be able to book a holiday at Disneyland Paris completely on your iPhone/Smartphone, via a mobile-customised website or a dedicated app, without ever having to make a phone call or go on a "proper" computer.
I really like the mobile interface for Pocket Diner, which makes it extremely easy to book a table at a restaurant, simply by making a few taps on your screen. Disneyland Paris should have something similar for booking holidays:
If they updated their website with a more modern layout, they could use media queries to change the look of the website depending on if you're on a phone or on the computer. They really need to update that old site design.
@Meph
Exactly. The Disneyland Paris website (like so many others) should recognise if you're viewing it on a desktop/laptop computer, or on a smartphone, and change the style of the site to match the device.
So I didn't know this but apparently after you've been on a ride you can you use the app on your phone to buy the ride picture!
According to this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26I1SBXv ... ture=g-u-u (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26I1SBXvuq0&feature=g-u-u%22%20target=%22_blank%22%20rel=%22nofollow)
[in french only]
Don't know if the feature is already there or not.
And apparently after dreams finishes they'll give you the option to download the soundtrack.
Very impressive!
does it cost to use the app when in paris
Quote from: "debbieharry"does it cost to use the app when in paris
yeah it will cost you data from your network while roaming.
Anyone used this lately ? Is it still worth using ?

It's a nice app, but lacks a lot of things in my opinion. :( You can see what time the restaurants are open and what number to call to book (if I'm not mistaken!)
You can see the waiting times for the attractions, but that feature proved to be pretty useless since I wasn't able to use my 3G internet in the Park because of the costs, obviously. If you can, I'd recommend you download the iPad DLP app, which is pretty amazing! You can watch videos of the rides, videos and pictures of the hotels, it's basically an interactive folder.

Which app is this? I can't find anything about restaurant openingtimes.....
