Disneyland Paris is a wonderful place, and it might be the best Magic Kingdom of them all.
But one atraction is still missing, and that would be the amacing "Splash Mountain".
This ride are maby Disneys crown juvel atraction, and its a shame that it has not been buildt in Disneyland Paris yet!
Are you one of them, that think that this atraction should have a place inn Disneyland Paris?
Feel free to write your opinion here!
either you're blind, but we've got Space Mountain at Disneyland Paris
(//http://mw2.google.com/mw-panoramio/photos/medium/1553706.jpg)
ofcourse it's a shadow of how it was originally when it was
Space Mountain: De La Terre Ala Lune :)
We do have a Space Mountain, but the post is about Splash Mountain.
It's a really highly discussed attraction, and has been earmarked for Roundup Village area of Frontierland before, but it seems to have gone quiet recently. I agree it's something the park needs, would really pull people back to that area of the park, and add another capacity eating ride. I'd like to see it go in with an original spin on the theme, in the spirit of our other E-Ticket crossovers, they've all been given a new twist, and Splash could easily take on a new Frontierland theme!
ah, that's an error on my part, i misread the post thinking it was about space mountain...
anyway regarding splash mountain, i keep hearing they won't build it because of the weather at this time of year, ofcurse there's nothing to vstop them from toning the splash effects down, i hear they do so in tokyo...
I really wish that there would be a Splash Mountain in Paris. Maybe they could change the story so that the ride would better fit the Frontierland theme. Song of the South doesn't really.
It is always said that Disney will not build Splash because of the cold weather. The weather in Paris is very similar to Japan and there the attraction works very well. I think it is an excuse not to spend a lot of money.
I have never experienced Splash, but judging from pictures and videos it looks really great. Unfortunately Splash Mountain was refurbished when we have been to WDW.
QuoteMaybe they could change the story so that the ride would better fit the Frontierland theme. Song of the South doesn't really.
Right, in Disneyland California Splash Mountain fits perfect with New Oreans Square and in Frontierland at WDW it dosent fit at all. The same would be in Paris.
The Idea of changing the Theme to a more Frontierland related Story is great, i would say using the Story of Western River Expedition, theme the mountain to fit with Big Thunder Mountain, a little expandet Thunder Mesa town on the entrance with Shops and restaurants and we have the perfect attraction + setting in Frontierland.
I thing something unique and not movie related is the best they could do with Splash Mountain, like they did with Space Mountain. A new look, new Story, new theme, new coaster technology and you have the best Space Mountain in all Disney Parks (since mission 2 not so great anymore)
Hi again!
You people all come up with so many great ideas!!!
But why not stick to the original? It works perfect and by my meaning is one of the greatest atraction buildt by Disney !
I understand that it may not not fit in the Frontierland theming, but why cant they build it in Fantasyland insted!
Splash Mountain is a story telling ride, and i think it would rather fit in there!
If they are going to change the story theme, why not go for the full package?
In honour of Walt Disney, the Splash Mountain ride could hold theming to several different movies!
As you float thru, you start with the classic " The one that started it all", Fantasia, Pinnochio and so on.
What do you guys think, do you think it would be a fine tribute to Walt Disney?
Maybe they could call it "Splash Mountains classics thru the decades".
Splash Mountain (and Ariel's Under the Sea Adventure, for that matter) is still high on DLP's list of future developments, but for the coming years, they want to focus on the Studios (Pilippe Gas confirmed this policy in a recent interview). Splash has been posponed in favour of Ratatouille. Expect Splash or Ariel around 2015 to arrive at Disneyland Park.
That sure is FANTASTIC news, hope its tru!
"If you dream it, anything can happen".
I wish for both!
This weather excuse is starting to grate on me now. They/people cannot use that as an excuse, as boats can be designed specifically to not cause much of a splash, thus not getting wet. Pirates is a good example of this.
Thats right, they can be designed not tu cause mutch splash! And it is also possible to heat the water up a bit so it wouldent freese.
Yeah, Splash Mountain, in one form or another, has always been on DLP's to-do list. It's more a question of "when" rather than "if." (Tokyo's also has a greatly reduced splash.)
As for fitting the story, I seem to remember that Frontierland's show producer Jeff Burke had his own ideas involving a lumber mill supplying Thunder Mesa and the surrounding farms with wood. Since he's no longer with WDI, I don't know if that's what they currently have in mind. Looking at recent trends, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they'd base it on a popular franchise instead...

I really hope you are wrong that Splash will be based on a franchise. I can imagine that this attraction could have a boost on DLP like Space Mountain and ToT had.

Have you ever been on splash mountain ? No matter where you sit you WILL get soaked . its nothing like POTC. in POTC you might get a little wet but splash mountain is a whole other ball game.
Now dont get me wrong Splash Mountain is porbaby one of my favorite rides ever so i would love to see it implemented at DLP even if it means i have to get wet but i think that if SM was to come to DLP they would need to find a way to reduce the splash maybe by changing the design of the boats. Heating the water wont help as people might still get sick. They could also maybe distribute ponchos or something. :D

After the last splash, there is a tunnel, right?
Removing that tunnel (or enlarge it) would really reduce the splash! It's not that difficult...

True for California and Florida,
not true for Tokyo, as I wrote above. The attraction can be engineered not to soak guests and it's arguably still as fun.

hmm true and to be honest i would almost prefer it that way i mean i already lost 2 phones to splash mountain at Disneyland Resort

I think you've misunderstood what I said. I wasn't saying you dont get wet on Splash Mountain, what I said was they can alter the design of the boats so you dont get wet.
If it were up to me, we all should have made a campaign for getting Splash Mountain to DLP:-)
Why do you all want to see a clone of ride? Wouldn't a more original chute ride be much more appealing?
Do you guys honestly think Disneyland Park will get a brand new, major attraction this decade? The last new thing that got built was Space Mountain in 1995. I highly doubt they'll build anything like that in the 2010s.
^ Buzzzzz?
Ok, but that replaced an existing attraction, and used an existing building. I mean a brand new structure, from scratch.
I realy hope so, Magic Kingdom needs a new atraction to keep old and new customers to come!
Why shouldent they build a new atraction, look at whats happening at WDW. Fantasyland is actualy becoming twice as big.
And after my oppinion, they should build a whole new atraction not replace and old one. And what could possibly be better than to build Splash Mountain in Critter Coral, its plenty of space to build it there! If you look closely at the park map, it looks like the atraction in past time maby original was planed to beeing build there!
Disneyland is soon twenty years old, and both WDS and MK deserve to have a new atraction to have a nice cellebration!
Yes, Disneyland Park is 20 years old next year. Whatever they do, it's too late now to build a new attraction to open in April 2012. The best we can expect is Star Tours 2 or a Jack Sparrow update to Pirates of the Caribbean. But, without being too negative, I have a feeling that neither of those things will happen.
^ Simple it's a disneypark classic.
We all still buy the old classics on DVD right. I don't hear you say why do we want Snowwhite from 1937 and not a new original verion of the story.
It's the same principle it's an classic.
Splash Mountain is of course themed around the Disney film, Song of the South. It's a classic film, but it's not really famous like Snow White. Most people haven't heard of it. And Disney clearly aren't happy with Song of the South, because they don't sell it on DVD.
If Splash Mountain in its original form came to Disneyland Park, I'd be ecstatic. It'd be great. However, I feel that the Princess And The Frog would be a better film to use, to create a more relevant version of Splash Mountain. The last two Splash Mountain rides built opened in 1992. That's almost 20 years ago now. I have a feeling that if Disney were going to build Splash Mountain again, they'd choose a slightly different theme and base it on a more relevant/popular film.
Check out these two discussions about it:

Yes! I can se that Princess and the frog would be perfect for the ride theming. But why change a theming that already works perfectly? Splash Mountain and the Songs of the South themining is a strong brand in ceverall parks!
I hope so - if they built a Splash Mountain in DLP I may consider returning...until then, I'm saving my pennies for Orlando.
This was my last trip - 5 years ago!

I agree, there should be a Splash Mountain at Disneyland Paris.
That and Expedition Everest.
I don't think Splash Mountain is ever coming to DLRP. Neither do I think that it still belongs in DLRP. The attraction is old, the tech is old, the Song of the South story is old and unknown. Not to mention Paris gets cold, and rainy. It might work for Tokyo, but it won't in DLRP. People here naturally shun an attraction like this in winter time. Just ask any other park that has a water ride running through winter. It's occupancy drops by at least 50 percent, if not more.
Yes it is one of Disney's best attractions but rather on spending millions on a Splash Mountain I prefer them spending it on something that will bring in more visitor numbers all year around. There is tons to chose from if we have to chose from previously build attractions. The Indiana Jones Ride in DLC, Test Track, Dinosaur, Mount Everest, Soaring, Pooh Honeypot ride, Little Mermaid, World of Colour, Mission Space, something from the new expansions, or an original attraction.
I think spending so much money on an attraction that will lose it's appeal in the winter months (which is around 7/8 months per year in Paris) is not only a waste but also very irresponsible for a park bordering on bankruptcy.
Oh man!! That would be amazing! It was one of my fave rides at WDW! I would love it in Paris, the drop at the end is so good! And its just such a lovely ride <3 But im not sure the younger generation now would appreciate a Song of the South theme?

Well If people leave it alone on a cold day than that just means we can go on it faster, and don't have a large que like crush or peter pan etc.(lol)
About a year ago the Disney executives went on a trip and looked at a "Mack Rides" Log flume with an all weather system that could turn of the splash in case of cold (European) weather.
I would love for Splash to come to paris but then with either the Lion king theme (April fools joke form a few years ago) or a Princess and the frog theme!
Last post is already a long time ago, but i cant stop thinking about this attraction.
I prefer this attraction above all other projects, for the new attraction after Ratatouille.
There are enough very warm days in paris, and then you really miss a water attraction. Splash mountain makes the resort complete!
I am so happy at the day, this project will be announced! Hopefully it is still in the running as a future project for Disneyland Paris...
i do think splash mountain is really a big miss on disney paris. Was one of my favourites in orlando, but also similar ones in Phantasialand in germany

It can get pretty cold in Phantasialand too and that park has multiple water rides. And I would love a Princess and the Frog themed log flume...
How about they retheme it to fit Frontierland, maybe it was meant to be an Expedition by the Big Thunder Mining Company into the Mountain to try and Discover Gold after losing the riches in Big Thunder Mountain, but it turns out in the middle of the ride that it's a Water Volcano that's cracking under pressure from the mining and you have end up escaping the mountain before the mountain collapses on top of you.
I think it could work as-is, without modification. The Magic Kingdom also has Splash Mountain in Frontierland, and it's not that bad, frankly I got used to it being there. It is a great ride, and the characters are well known in certain parts of Europe.
I love Splash Mountain in WDW, but to be honest, I think it's a little unrealistic for DLP
1) I may well but wrong here, but I don't think Frontierland has the space for such a huge attraction, and would it be aesthetically pleasing to have this massive fountain in the back of the land?
2) It's a tricky one to adapt. It would only work if they could blend it with the theming and story of Frontierland but Frontierland, I personally feel, has the best theming because it has the story of Thunder Mesa.
3) Even if the attraction could be altered to match the Thunder Mesa storyline, it might take away what's so sweet about the original Song of the South themed attraction in the States.
4) Slightly contradicting my third point here, but isn't Song of the South supposed to be a little bit racist? Probably not the best advert for DLP...
5) Do you really want to get soaking wet on a cold Parisian day?
I really do love the idea, but I think there are just too many problems and it makes building it too much of a risk for the Disney Executives. Especially because once a ride is there, you can't just remove it!

1) They have enough space, where Woodys Roundup os at the moment. There is space until there, where Indiana Jones is (okay, thats also Adventureland, but i think the Frontierland space is enough)
2) totally my opinion
5) Not ever day is cold. There are enough days (even in winter) where the sun comes out and gives us 20 degrees +. And even if there is a rainy day: I would take my Disney-poncho :) doesnt matter of i get wet outside or inside (and of course they can conform the technic of the splash a bit)
And nearly everyone loves water attractions 8) . Doesnt matter in wich park i am, how rainy it is...there is a 15-20 minutes queue everytime
There is space left for the ride in Frontierland. The train station would move, but it always was the spot for brer. There are even maps that show the ride would fit there perfectly. Aesteticly is a different story, but it has never been said it would have the songs of the south theme. Apparently there were plans for an original western theme.
Aaand it hasn't to be a frontierland/thunder mesa theme.
In California splash is a part of Critter Country. It's like New Orleans Square a themed area on its own with the pooh ride and a little shop.
The splash is regulable. On cold day you won't get that wet as on hot summer days.
If I may interject here as a frequented US Disney Parks visitor, I was surprised to find no Splash Mountain in DLP. It's a signature attraction in almost all the Magic Kingdom parks and it was sad to see it not in DLP. The Song of the South context would actually make a little more sense, considering you all in Europe actually can buy Song of the South, unlike us in the states. A new attraction would be great or at least redesigned like Phantom Manor and Pirates were done in DLP.
But on the recent point of discussion of the underdevelopment in DLP, that was one of my biggest complaints about the park. It had a plethora of experiences (in fact, I preferred many of the walk through experiences versus the standard attraction in the states). Also... no offense but maintenance was bit of an issue. Many of the effects were clearly not working, Storybookland was overgrown, and the paths had much more rubbish compared to the US counterparts.
Clearly, the park needs some love and is not currently getting it.
GOOD NEWS though. Living and working in the film industry in Los Angeles, I have some connections at Disney who told me that many of the "higher ups" who visited the parks for the 20th Anniversary were taken aback by the points mentioned and apparently gonna start cracking the whip as well as breathing new life into the parks.
Having just got back from the parks, I totally agree about the upkeep. Having been going often since 1994, it was painful to see tons of ride effects broken, missing, un-animated, or lights out all over the place. The need some attention, and I can only assume upgrading so many attractions over the coming years is due to those issues.
In regards to Splash, if they needed a new story, there's plenty to choose from (Pocahontas I think being the most obvious), I simply don't buy this weather excuse. Almost every theme park in Europe and certainly in rainy England have water rides. If anything it's purely down to Splash being a huge and costly attraction.
As it stands, the land waiting for splash and it's ghostly theatre are just dead. Seems like such a waste as no one heads beyond Big Thunder's Fastpass line
IF splash mountain would be in DLP, I think it would do best in Adventureland, with maybe a maya/jungle theme based on The Emperor's New Groove

A Pocahontas theme would be absolutely brilliant. I adore Pocahontas, she is truly an under appreciated princess!
This may be controversial but I don't feel DLP is missing Splash Mountain ::) . It's not a story we are familiar with in Europe, the whole Briar family are not current characters and although I have to say the ride footage looks fantastically detailed I would much rather a DLP unique ride.

I live in the UK and am very familiar with Brer Rabbit and the others, I loved the stories when I was a kid. Also the film 'Song of the South'.
Anyway Splash Mountain in DLP doesn't have to be about that. I'm sure they could think of another story to put with it.

With you on that, I grew up with Brer rabbit and family but that was 40 years ago and I don't think the characters have endured like some of the other old Disney characters. I'd like a Splash Mountain style ride but give it a different background as suggested elsewhere
I'll admit that I've never seen Song of the South, but Brer Rabbit (or Broer Konijn in Dutch) is very popular here, and he has a very regular presence in the weekly Donald Duck magazine. :) Would be fun to see him in DLP some time. :D
I think, it's not Splash Mountain is missing there. It is any water attraction, because we don't really have a water attraction there (let's so not count aporates and Small world...)
The best for such an attraction would be Frontierland / Adventureland.
Imagineers are creative enough, they could find a great solution for it, Splash Mountain or another water attraction.
