Pooh on Walk of Fame
Wednesday April 12, 2006

Squealing fans and frenzied photographers caused a commotion on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday, and all over a tubby cubby stuffed with fluff.

Winnie the Pooh was honoured with the 2,308th star on the world-famous pavement, joining fellow Disney animated luminaries such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Snow White on the concrete pantheon in the year of the 80th anniversary of the publication of AA Milne's story about his son's stuffed toy.

Pooh may be the bear with very little brain, but he's a very good cash cow - he generated $6bn in retail sales for the Mouse House in 2005, surpassed only by head mouse, Mickey.

He made his film debut in 1966 in a Disney featurette, Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree, followed by several cartoon series, holiday specials and direct-to-video full-length films.

It's weird seeing the characters out of the parks like that...  :)
