Title: Re: Inventions — Disneyland Hotel, Breakfast
Post by: mrssimpson on June 11, 2012, 10:14:54 PM
Hi there, we are staying at DLH for a week in August, really looking forward to it. Can anyone tell me what sort of food we can expect for breakfast? I've heard many good things about it - just wondered if anyone could give me details of the menu. Thanks in advance :D
Title: Inventions - dinner or brunch??
Post by: Clairelb on July 07, 2012, 11:51:47 AM
Hi All

I was just wondering what the difference is between the character dinner and the Sunday brunch at Inventions?

Are the characters different or is it the food? Which one is better?

Have eaten here before and thought it was lovely but have only just heard about the Sunday brunch.

Thanks :)

the brunch is themed, and you can call ahead to find out the theme before you go. the themed lunches have the characters in different costumes from Inventions dinner.

If I were going to be paying so much money for a meal at Inventions, I would go for the brunch over dinner I think.
Title: Inventions Buffet
Post by: Little mermaid 240 on September 03, 2012, 04:25:24 PM
Hi

We are thinking of going to the Disneyland Hotel for our Anniversary around March '13, our daughter would be joining us as she says 'it'll be her last family holiday before she goes to university' :)

We were wondering about the Inventions Buffet, as we have intolerances to shellfish and prawns to contend with.

Basically has anyone been there and do you have pictures or could you explain to me the type of food. We have previously eaten at Walt's and Plaza Gardens  , but from the menu we know that the Blue Lagoon is definitely a no go! :(

Thank you :D

Theres a couple of videos on Youtube of the Inventions Buffet. Ive been looking at them as we are going to do the character buffet at Inventions on our next trip. It looks like a bit of everything- meats hot and cold, salads, there did appear to be a large section of seafood though. As well as cheeses, and all sortd of desserts and sweets.

Thanks,
There does seem a lot of shellfish, couldn't make out much of the other foods, but perhaps the person filming loved the fish part of the meal ;)

We are not going until March so we will keep watching for trip reports :) Or on our first day we may go and ask if we can have a look then we can book for an other night later on the trip

Hi,
I have eaten at the buffet twice before. I too do eat shell fish, but the display does look impressive if you arrive as it opens. The other dishes we had were a choice of were chicken, gammon, beef and lamb all with different sauces. Both times I have been it's been fine...even my children ate and went bck for seconds etc.

If you do choose hope you have a great time.

Title: Eat at inventions - back for dreams????
Post by: squeezelou on September 26, 2012, 08:22:32 PM
Hi,
We've decided to eat at inventions buffet on our first night as we're staying at the disneyland hotel. Would we have time to get back to watch dreams if we ate at 6pm? Our youngest is only three so it would be too late to wait while 8.30.
Thanks Lou :D
Title: Re: Eat at inventions - back for dreams????

Definitely, as it's a buffet you can be out in less than an hour if you want to.It's beside the park as well so no travel time as such.
Title: How much extra for Inventions?
Post by: likesilver on October 07, 2012, 02:43:46 PM
Hi all.

My husband and I are bringing our daughter to DLP for the first time in December. We've booked the Full-Board Plus dining plan, but would like to eat at Inventions on our first night. Could anyone advise me on how much our vouchers are worth and how much extra we'd need to pay for Inventions?

Thank you!
Title: Sunday Character Brunch at Inventions
Post by: jonathan on October 14, 2012, 08:33:44 PM
Hi

Has anybody done the Character Sunday Brunch at Inventions or really know anything about it- sort of food etc. I see that its pricey (no real surprise) but was considering doing it on nour next trip. Sunday will be our last day and thought it might be a nice way to round off our trip. Just wondered if there was any feedback and if you can put your HB Premium vouchers towards the price of it?

Many thanks :D

We did this last Oct. it's the same as the usual buffet you eat in Inventions to be honest. Cooked meat, potatoes, salads, fish, chicken nuggets maybe chips and loads of desserts! It's gone up to 75 Euros apparently. It's highly overpriced for what it is but seeing the characters in different outfits is a bonus! We had the Hawaiian theme!
Title: Re: Sunday Character Brunch at Inventions
Post by: jonathan on November 01, 2012, 06:51:02 PM
Inventions, in my opinion, is by far the best food option in the whole resort for families- especially with my kids and my Mum who aren't so much fussy or picky but like food to be plain and normal. In other words not covered in sauce or anything. So at least theres a massive choice and they love the character interaction.

As its called a 'Brunch' I just assumed it would be a different sort of food offering but I've since seen and heard that like you say it's much the same as any other sitting but thats fine with us. And Ive seen some great photos- just hoping for a cool theme.

I booked it yesterday and they quoted me at 220 euros for 2 adults, 2 children, 1 infant whos free of course. Pricey but what the hey lol

On this trip I've booked Inventions for 5 out of 8 days- shows how much we like it lol :D
Thanks for your reply.

€220 for 5 of you isn't that pricey for Disney, especially in Inventions. I wasn't to keen on the food to be honest, liked the pudding though ;) and I have to pay adult prices for Dylan now too and he didn't eat much either, he's happy with steak and chips in cafe mickey ;) if you ring a couple of weeks before you go you can find out the Sunday brunch theme. The London/ Mary Poppins one looks good. If they have that when we go for Christmas I might be tempted to go again :)

It does look to be one of the better ones doesnt it. You'd like to think that in December they wouldn't have the Hawaiian brunch but then you never know I guess lol

I have been to Inventions several times but have not seen any princesses. You get similar characters as Cafe Mickey.

I went last week and did not see any princesses. They had the same characters every night, Chip and Dale, Gepetto, Pinocchio, Goofy, Pluto and I saw Mickey Mouse on one night only.

The princesses will only be regularly at the Princess meal at the Auberge. They have been known to appear elsewhere on special occasions though I think but not on a regular basis. The menu at Auberge certainly isnt to most tastes but its not really about the food for most people. It's a magical experience for little girls and my daughter cant wait. She probably will only eat the dessert and then well head for a hot dog or McDonalds afterwards lol

Glad to hear we are not the only ones doing this :D . Its not about the food, we are only going for the Princesses. We are planning on going to Inventions to, but again more for the charactors and the experience of eating in the Pink Palace

I've read very little good about cafe Mickey, lots of complaints over the food, environment, character time etc, but lots of good ones about inventions, only prob is it's about twice the prcie, having said that if you google pictures of both, you see a very different environment, and the food at inventions looks delicious, andthe place alot more spacious.
Made us decide to save up the extra for next time we go there.

Would I be right in thinking that the evening buffet is around €53 per adult and €26 per child? I'll be paying with my half board plus vouchers so I reckon I'll be paying an additional €30 per adult, does that sound about right? Also, if I pay the additional money to eat here, is t right a drink is not included? I'd hate to embarrass myself when it comes to paying  Thanks

Tubbyherman, I merged your question into this official topic for the restaurant - you can find a link to the menu pricing in the first post.

Quote from: "Slimy yet satisfying"Hi can anyone who has visited recently tell me how much it is per adult and child for the evening character buffet. This website is sadly well out of date and shows only 2011 prices. thanks
I've updated prices for the dinner buffet: http://www.dlrpmagic.com/planning/dinin ... nventions/ (http://www.dlrpmagic.com/planning/dining/restaurant-menus/inventions/%22%20target=%22_blank%22%20rel=%22nofollow)

Most menus only have an annual refresh in late March/early April and prices rarely change by more than one euro.

So grateful for this forum, would be lost planning this holiday without it! Couple of questions though:
- We rang yesterday to book inventions for May 5th (sunday) we were told inventions itself was closed then but they still held the character buffet in the california grill. Does this sound right or was I given the wrong information? I've found when ringing sometimes I get different information based on who I talk to iykwim and I was surprised if it is closed then as its not only a french school holiday but a British BH weekend so I thought they'd be busy.
- From looking about I think the theme on that day is neverland. Will it be only peter pan, hook etc or will tinkerbell be there? My son will be happy with the pirates but think my daughter would be less than impressed lol

Thanks again :) Hopefully when I come back I can give as much help to others on here as I've got :)

We booked the Dinner Buffet last November, it cost €52.50 per adult, €26.50 for children 7-12 years and €21.50 for children under 6. The price of the childrens menu included a soft drink. Expensive but the food was amazing and the characters spent ages with us.

We booked Inventions yesterday for May, the reservations team said the price was 53.50, adults / 29.50 for our 5 yrs old. Nice to know drinks inc and charactors took there time. Found them a little rushed in Cafe Mickey last year but still amazing and well worth the money.

It is the one on the sunday love yeah. Its the neverland theme we checked :) just a bit dissapointed that the inventions resturant is closed and being held in california grill instead :(
Julesk you could do a dinner one night, then the brunch on sunday. As its themed on the sunday it would be different to midweek

Do you know when Inventions opens again? We dont go for another 6 weeks yet.

Food was really good, but very fish orientated -Rob certainly ate his weight in the fresh prawns!

maybe but the trend has been to not raise the price so much but to cut back on the service you get instead.
here is the email address for DLH, If you request they will tell you what theme is when and how much it is. DLP.DLH.FRONT.OFFICE@disney.com

*edit I'm reading else where back in Feb'13 it was 64 euros but no drinks any more. I wouldn't know either way as I have never been to brunch.

Just trying to get confirmatinos - will there still be characters there at evening meals? There will be 3 adults, and 3 children in my party, it's going to cost us a fortune, but just once, I would love to eat at Inventions, however if there's no character interaction I'm not sure I can justify the cost on food........

Can anyone confirm the lunch sittings....what time from-and what time is closing, are there characters there then,, price....and can you use half board plus and pay addidtional costs aswell?? Thanks

Hmmm... I hadn't considered lunch - I priced up evening meal, and would cost me 280 euros, I just can't justify that on one meal when we could go to center parcs for 5 days for 50 less! We're doing buffalo bill this time already, maybe I could do inventions next time instead, but lunch may be within budget, it's still listed as an option on the dlp website, so I'm hoping!
Title: Re: Inventions — Disneyland Hotel

Lunch should certainly be possible, but as far as I'm aware it's not a Character Dining location for Lunch. :)

It also makes lunch there a lot cheaper.
DLP Guide has lunch listed as €39 per adult and €19.50 per child.
By contrast, Dinner (which is a Character Dining event) is €64 per adult and €32 per child.

Thanks disneyron! We have done evening meal at inventions with characters, but I dont mind not seeing any if we go for lunch. The food was just amazing and I have to go back!! Im guessing then we could use a half board plus and pay the difference...that wuld be like €6 an adult and €4.50 a child (we will be 2 adults n 2 children) plus the cost of a drink each?? Sounds like a great deal to me, plus the chance to go inside the DLH again!! ;D

we are heading there the 7th to the 9th of January and we have never eaten in inventions,,,so what is the price for dinner and is brunch only at the weekend. We are getting the free half board vouchers and we are staying in the sequioa lodge golden forest room so was going to use the voucher to part pay towards bill.. do you think we would have to book early at that time of year as its low season...any advice would help ::) ::) ::) ::)
Title: Re: Inventions — Disneyland Hotel

According to DLP Guide the prices are as follows:

Dinner
Adult (+1 drink) : €59,50
Child (+1 drink) : €29,50

Brunch (Sunday only, from 1pm to 3pm)
Adult : €64
Child : €32

As for making reservations :
This is a character dining experience in both cases, this makes them busier than normal restaurants regardless of the season. So I would make a reservation, regardless of when you're going.

Especially the Brunch on Sunday will be busier than a standard restaurant, as it's only once a week.

You can likely just walk up for Dinner at Inventions and be fine, but making reservations is easy and cheap, and it'll save you a lot of potential hassle.
For Brunch on Sunday... I'd make reservations just to be absolutely sure you can attend, these are themed character events, they're apparently something quite special. And as they're only once a week, they'll most likely be busy.

Just a quick heads up for those of you considering lunch, we had lunch booked here for our last day id kept the money arose to pay for it, twenty minutes into our meal goofy and pLutof apear, then Donald and rabbit, Brill I think, characters! Then I nip to the toilet and notice a little sign at the entrance to inventions, character lunch! So instead of. Forty euros/ twenty eurosis now fifty five / twenty five, or lunch cost me an extra sixty! And for just four characters!

I would assume some characters with origins in that region (or costumes from that region), as well as some tweaking to the menu to include more Russian items I'd imagine.

Whether this is entirely correct I do not know.

Was your last day a Sunday?

Probably a daft question, but on Sundays is it definitely a Character Brunch and then a Character Dinner?

Considering dinner here for our family holiday in June. We will have half board plus vouchers and will pay the difference but just a few questions

1) are there many characters ? Any princesses at dinner ?
2) whats best time to book a table ?
3) there are 2 prices listed for dinner €54.50 & €59.50 with drink - which price will apply when we are using our plus vouchers ?
4) is it really worth it ? We are also doing cafe mickey for lunch another day so is that enough for us with 3 & 2 yr old.

Thanks

1) Haven't encountered any princesses at Dinner at Inventions. Last time I went I met Pluto, Donald, Mickey, Minnie, Pinocchio and one of the Penguins from Mary Poppins in about a 60 minute time-span. :)

2) I assume you mean of day? Whatever you like really, characters are on rotation for the entire dinner period I imagine. I have gone twice between 18:00 and 19:00 so far, but I do enjoy eating relatively early.
Just make sure to make a reservation unless you're going during a very quiet period, it is a rather popular restaurant.

3) As your vouchers do not cover the cost completely, you'll be using them at their face value, so you get to choose. Decide beforehand if you want to include a drink or not. :)

4) I enjoyed both visits I made to the restaurant, but it's rather hard telling someone else if it's worth it or not.
The food is very nice and the character interaction is lovely in my opinion.

Do the characters at inventions usually have a cast member with them? My son is autistic and last time we went Donald was very physical with him and my son had a complete melt down, Donald out his hands on his hips and act er d put out, usually if there's a cast member I ask them to tell the characters not to touch him, he likes them, just not unexpected contact. Ruined our meal unfortunately but I thought they usually had a guide

Hi Polar Vixen. The characters definitely don't all have CMs with them. We went in October and not one character had a guide, then we went at Christmas and I think Eeyore and Pluto had guides with them but that was it.

I have another question regarding character dining in Inventions. As I read - characters are there for lunch (12.30-15.00) and dinner (18.00-22.30).
I want to book a table for 30.11.2015 - Monday. I am not sure what should I choose - lunch or dinner? Park will be open till 20H, after that half an hour Disney Dreams. When is it more quiet, I hope food has been served on a regular basis. What should I think of, any clever ideas? We are staying in SL golden forest room.

Hi me and my family are going the first week in October and wondered what the best time to book our table for in inventions as my mum isn't found of too much crowd. I'm desperate to try here as I've heard of good character experiences here. :)

Hi,

I haven't dined there myself but have been told that characters are only available at dinner, not at lunch time (and this explains the price difference). Have a wonderful trip!
