Title: N2O Birthday trip (7-11 June) - COMPLETED!
Post by: never2old on June 18, 2010, 01:21:30 PM
And here we go!!

This may take a while because I still got plenty of pictures to get through (5 days of holidays including 3 in Disney, came home with over 1800 pictures    but it was raining for a couple of days, so I couldn't take many pictures then    ;) )

Before I start with the report, a bit of background info...

This summer we're going to be moving house, which means we don't really have any summer holidays to speak of... We were going to meet up with some friends for 3 days in Disneyland (and celebrate my birthday (Wednesday) and our friend Paul's (Thursday) in  the happiest place of earth). So my hubby and I decided to extend our holiday a bit, take a couple of extra days off work, and spend a couple of days relaxing in the Marriott near Disney, before moving to the New York Hotel for the rest of our trip.

In the Marriott it was practically the same price to get a studio for 2 people than a 2-bedroom villa, so we decided to splash out a bit more and go for the villa... Plus it meant that our friends, who were staying with some family in France, would come and join us on the Tuesday afternoon, instead of getting up early and meeting us Wednesday in the parks.

We left Luxembourg Monday morning, and made it to the Marriott around lunchtime. Our villa was ready so we left our bags there, and (since we had an empty fridge, were hungry, and I wouldn't have it otherwise ;)) we went to the Disney Village for lunch. We decided to go for Annette's, since we hadn't eaten there in a while, and I had a serious burger craving...

My dear husband...

Annette's was fairly quiet, we were seated straight away and in no time had a couple of yummy burgers in front of us...

I forget what it was called (French Campagnard or something like that), it was with reblochon cheese, and incredibly delicious!!!  If you like strong cheese, I really recommend it!!

It was an absolutely gorgeous day. Unfortunately it was a bit windy so Panoramagique was not functioning, otherwise we would have gone up on it. Instead we had a quick walk around the Village, before heading back to the hotel to enjoy the weather and the pool...

I hadn't noticed these before, but they really add a beach holiday feeling to the place!

It was really great around the Village and the lake. There were a few people sitting in the benches, taking in the sun and simply relaxing.

Eventually my husband managed to get me out of there and, after a stop in a supermarket for supplies for the evening, we got back to the Marriott, where we headed straight for the pool area. The water in the outside pool was a bit cold (though there were a few people in it), but simply laying down enjoying the sun was heavenly...

It really is a nice hotel, it's the third time I've been there and it never disappoints...  The villas are very comfortable, the rooms are really lovely, and it's so close to the magic!! If it wasn't for the Extra Magic Hours (my husband and I are big fans of the EMH :)) we would stay there more often during our visits. Maybe if we ever get annual passes....  (By the way, if you want to see more pictures of the Marriott and the villas, you can check some out in my fotki (//http://public.fotki.com/never2old/disneyland-paris/around-disneyland-paris/) gallery!)

Plenty of ducks, geese and swans around!

Anyway, we had a lovely afternoon of doing nothing  8)  Wonderful. When it started getting a bit colder we headed back to the villa. While my DH followed the Apple keynote thingy about the new iPhone (free wifi available in the villas), I had a lovely bath (that's holidays for you... take the time to enjoy a relaxing bath  :) ), and after dinner, we went for a stroll around the resort (which wasn't as magical as it could have been, there were quite a few little flys around)

Sounds like you had a pleasant time.
1800 pictures? A lot I must say.
And happy birthday in arrears! :-)

Thanks norhel  :D I know, I'm terrible when it comes to pictures, digital cameras were made for me!

Day 2!

Today was going to be another relaxing day...

After a lovely breakfast (they have the best croissants in the shop in the Marriott, by the way) we headed to the shopping outet in Val d'Europe

On a Tuesday morning, it was dead quiet. Note that it really mattered, because neither of us are big shoppers (and with the new house, we're trying to avoid unnecesary expenses...) But we had a walk around, a coffee in Starbucks (I may have mentioned in other reports, we have no Starbucks in Luxembourg and are big fans, so any excuse to stop there for one is welcome) before going to the Sealife aquarium

Coffee at Starbucks (also extremely quiet)

For some time I had wanted to visit Sealife, but everytime we've been around it's always been for Disney, or for the outlet itself. So I was really keen on finally visiting it. And I was not dissapointed. I really recommend it to everyone! It's nicely presented (and great for kids), and they've got plenty of interesting fish to see.

Some tiny jellyfish, they stay like that on the ground (unlike the other, bigger ones, they had some in a tank swimming around, they were really hypnotic!!)

These were really ugly (huge) things. Wouldn't like to see one without a glass between us

The octopus was also a bit freaky... First it wasn't moving, but suddendly it started kind of sliding on the wall, towards the window, it's long tentacles curling... I had never seen one in real life, but I thought it was a bit scary!!

Piranhas!

When I got to this tank, I (very excitedly) called my husband over: Look, Nemo and Dory!! And just a few minutes after, a little Italian girl (must have been around 5 years old) came running and yelling "Dory, Dory, Dory!!" (just as happy and excited as me...) My husband kept teasing me all day after that that I had the same knowledge on fish species as a 5 year old    :P
(//http://images56.fotki.com/v1599/photos/8/1582018/8821434/DSCF1176-vi.jpg)

We ended up spending quite a bit of time in the Aquarium, so after that we decided to stay for lunch in the shopping center, and again after lunch (and a bit of food shopping in Auchan for the evening) we got back to the hotel, to sit by the pool.

It was a bit cooler than the day before, but still very pleasant, and again extremely relaxing.

My husband went for a swim in the outside pool (I prefered to stick to the inside one, although the water wasn't that warm).

By the end of the afternoon it was getting colder (and a lot more cloudy). We were expecting our friends to join us around 5, so we went back to the villa to get ready.

It started raining a bit by the time our friends arrived. We had a lovely dinner, and after putting their children to sleep (two lovely kids) we stayed up for a bit, planning a bit the day ahead (first day in Disney!!) while having a glass of wine...

The next day was going to be an early start (we wanted to be in the New York Hotel by 8am), so we didn't stay up too late. Not that it made much difference, I was so excited about going back to DLP, I hardly slept at all!!  ;)

Day 3 coming soon!

I dare any of you to see a Dory-fish (I'm sure that's not its official name but they will always be Dorys to me) or clownfish (I know that one!) and not to call out Dory and Nemo!

And here's day 3!!

Most important day of all, of course, because today was my birthday! (and Donald's, by the way, and sir Javey will tell you  ;) )

We got up early (a bit before 7) for breakfast (I had chocolate cake, leftover from dinner the night before, best breakfast ever!!). I also got a few presents (including, from by dear hubby, a pair on Tinkerbell earrings and a Grumpy glass figurine, from Svarowsky, I'll try to post some pictures later  :D )

As we feared, the sun from the first two days was completely gone, to be replaced by dull grey skies and (for now) a bit of rain. By the time we got to the New York Hotel it was a bit more rain (but not as bad as it would be later on)

We checked in, left our bags (rooms were not ready yet) and, before heading out to the parks, stopped to say hello to Minnie!!

Karen and her kids:

Ella, her little daughter, was over the moon to meet Minnie. She gave her a big kiss (and asked Minnie to also kiss her little Minnie doll) and a big hug.

I was very happy too  :D
(//http://images9.fotki.com/v1603/photos/8/1582018/8807518/DSCF1189-vi.jpg)

We made it into the park a bit after 9. Under the rain. Terrible picture, but it gives you an idea of what a miserable day it was (weather wise, don't get me wrong, we had a great time!!)

Since Dumbo was closed, they had opened It's a small world during the EMH. So we started our day there (plus is a good one for kids, specially if they don't know what to expect...) They loved it, of course    Peter Pan already had a bit of a queue, so we went to do Buzz Lightyear (it says 20 minutes but we walked straight in, excellent!).

By then it was 10:00, the park was open, so we went to get some FP for BTM, before heading towards Phantom Manor.

The rain stopped for a bit  :D/ and since we had some time before BTM, and it was there, we went to see the new version of the character train, which was now by the Castle. The kids wanted to see the characters, I wanted to see WALL-E!!

(sorry, couldn't choose just one!)

The train didn't look bad at all (better than Minnie's version, I have to say), and WALL-E is definitely a great addition. Hope we get more of him in the future...

Some pics of the Castle, before the rain comes back....

Back in Frontierland for BTM, which was absolutely brilliant!! The waterfall was working and everything, I love this ride!! I should maybe now mention that during our trip I had a bad back (pain in the neck, literally, and carrying around my reflex camera probably didn't help), so I was a bit worried about rollercoaster (and in fact I didn't go in Space Mountain at all during the trip, I didn't want to risk serious injury!) But BTM was just fine (I just felt it a bit at the end, strangely, coming back up from the tunnel towards the station).

Keeping an eye on the children while their parents go on BTM... I kept picturing them falling into the water... (don't worry they didn't  ;) )

From Frontierland, to Adventureland, towards Pirates!!

Last time we'd been in DLP it was closed, so I had lots of catching up to do! If I could be left to wander freely inside a ride, I would choose POTC. Wouldn't you just love to wander around the town, or go aboard the pirate ship??

The children were by now a bit tired, so Paul and Karen decided to go to the hotel and see if they could get their rooms early, so we walked with them towards the park entrance

Spoon collection in the Liberty Arcade
(//http://images56.fotki.com/v1599/photos/8/1582018/8086783/IMG_5389-vi.jpg)

I want them all!!!

And again! Only this time we got to hear the song, which was OK, but to be honest, I miss the original one...

It's like he's waving at me...

After they left, we went to get some lunch. Because we didn't know how long the kids would last, when we would eat (or how many of us), we hadn't booked anything. And because it was low season, when we got to Agrabah Cafe (I was starving for their chickpea salad) we found it was closed, as was the Cowboy Cookout Barbecue. So the two of us ended up in Hakuna Matata, which was not too busy, and had a really tasty meal (I had the chicken tika, really nice!)

After that, to help digestion, we decided to try and get the train. We got to the Frontierland station just as the previous train was leaving, so we ended up waiting about 10 minutes for the next one. 10 minutes I spent taking pictures, of course.... But the Frontierland station is one of the best ones, plenty of little details, and it was the first time I had some time to explore them!!

We went all the way to Main Street, thus missing the Grand Canyon scene, but it was starting to rain again and we wanted to see if we could get our room, to rest for a bit.

View from the train:

It started pouring on our way back to the hotel, by the time we got there we were completely soaked. Fortunately our room was ready, our bags followed us a few minutes later, and we could dry up and rest for a bit.

Thanks for your great trip report. Brilliant as always. The Mariott Village looks so nice. Can you only stay there if you are a member of their vacation club?

No, you can book your stay there as in any hotel!! I really recommend it, it's a great place!

I'm working on the next bit of the report, hope to post it later today!

And here I go!!

We had a little rest in our room (nice and dry away from the pouring rain). It seemed to calm down a bit around 4pm, just in time for the parade (at 4:30), so we met up with our friends in the hotel lobby, and headed back together towards Fantasyland for our parade spot.

Cris broke his raincoat poncho thingy (they're not very solid those things, this was not the first one he ripped), so he was using one of my pins to hold it together...

See those clouds?? Coming straight for us...

The rain of course did come back, just in time for the parade   ... So no stops, but other than that, no complaints. It was brilliant  :D , and everyone loved it (Karen said as soon as it finished that we had to come and see it again on the next day) There were a lot more performers than when I saw it last in March (that time, for example, there were only 3 toy soldiers!). And it cannot have been particularly pleasant for many of them with the rain, so big thumbs up to all of them

In front of us there were 3 people that must have been CMs (I suspected it when I saw them dancing in sync to the Just Like We Dreamed It song before the parade started, I got confirmation when many of the performers in the parade went to them, waved at them or even talked to them). I was not jealous at all

And I really liked how they've added Princess Tiana. The new music fits in perfectly, and she herself (I hadn't seen her yet at all) was beautiful. Nicely done Disney!

Anyway, here are some pics from the parade on Wednesday

Terrible picture, but I have to admit, I was too busy admiring Tiana and Naveen to take the pictures at the right time... I know I take many pictures, but I refuse to live (and see) my holidays through a camera, I'm sure you agree!!

After the parade we took our friends to visit the gallery in the Castle. It was a bit too crowded for my liking, I have to say (I'm more used to going during the EMH when it's practically empty), but still, it's so beautiful in there... I love the music, I love the windows and the tapestries, and if I could I would live in there  :P

Our friends left us after that (kids were tired and they didn't want to eat too late), so my husband and I stayed behind and headed straight to Pirates!

It was brilliant of course, but I did come out with a very wet bottom

It was still raining, of course, and by now we were a bit tired of it... So we left early (it must have been 6pm, so still one hour to go before the park closed, shocking I know    :P )

We had booked to have dinner (just the two of us) in the Steakhouse in the Village (my birthday, my choice!). After a rest and a shower, and a couple of drinks in the Manhattan Bar (great mojitos in there  :) ), we went out for dinner. Of course by then, not only had the rain stopped, but the evening was beautiful!!

Dinner was amazing.

My duck (I forgot to take pictures of the delicious scampy salad we had for starters, but it was gorgeous!)

I thought aftewards that maybe ordering duck on Donald's birthday was a bit tactless, hope he didn't mind

We were too stuffed for dessert, and after dinner we went for a walk to help diggestion... And enjoy the lack of rain!

Back in Lake Disney
(//http://images17.fotki.com/v523/photos/8/1582018/8807518/P6090185-vi.jpg)

And back in our hotel for the night!

Overall, and despite the (almost) constant rain, it was a brilliant day, and a great birthday  :D

Next day coming up soon!!

We discovered the Cheyenne hotel, we'd never been there before!! It looks quite nice, and huge!

Thanks for another nice update.

Do you have to use the car to get to the parks from the Marriott hotel or does it offer a bus? Did you stay in the NY Hotel during your time at DLRP?

The Marriott has a navette from the hotel to the parks (not a free one though), but we had our cars which is always easier. It's about 5-10 minutes drive to the park.

And yes, we stayed in the NYH during the Disney bit of our trip. The Marriott was just a little extra, to start off the holiday in style... But we are considering staying in the Marriott for our next Disney trip (sometime in November, for the Christmas season). We're going with my sister-in-law and her family, and with kids I have to say the Marriott is very convenient. You can cook what you want for dinner, put them to sleep, and still enjoy the evening in the living room... So we're considering it.

Loving the trip report (and belated happy birthday).

Marriott is indeed fab. The buses used to be free, but as most owners tend to have a car, the owner board decided to charge for those that use it (rather than for those that do not). There is also a public bus to DLP every 10 minutes which is even cheaper and more convenient.

Given the choice between a Disney hotel and Marriott, Marriott wins most of the time for us. The Dream passes mean EMH is a non issue.

But we used to quite like the HNY too (before they opened the Empire State floor and reduced the service to the rest of the hotel).

Thanks davewasbaloo!! :D

I have to say, I really like the service in the HNY, I don't know how it was before because my first visit was last October. I love that they take your bags to your room (I really love it when you get to your room and the bags are already there, but that hasn't happened that often). The Manhattan Bar is really my favourite in any of the Disney hotels I've been to, and since so far we've always managed to get special offers when staying there, I find the NYH great value for money (unlike the Disneyland Hotel, which is ridicuslously expensive...)

But the Marriott is definitely a nicer, better hotel. No doubt about that. I'm sure that we'll end up getting annual passes some day (definitely if we ever have children), and we'll most likely stay in the Marriott a lot more then. Now, if it's just the 2 of us, I prefer the Disney hotels (and the Marriott is a bit pricy if it's just 2 adults), I love just walking to the parks, and of course the EMH, we're huge fans, even my husband (who I'll admit is more of a Disney victim than an fan  ;) ) is always happy to make the most out of them...

So I don't know if I ever thank you, davewasbaloo, but it's because you recommended it so highly that we tried the Marriott for the first time last year, and it's been a real discovery! I always think of you when we book a stay there  :D

Anyway... I'll try to post the next part tomorrow, still sorting the many pictures!!

Thank you all  :D

Yep, no yellow ones, and I really liked these new more transparent ones... Although sorry, I can't remember the price at all!!

Apologies for the delay, as usual I'm taking way too long to update the TR, but there's so much going on, I keep starting and getting interrupted!!

Here's part 1 for Thursday, 10 June.

Unlike during other visits, we had had to choose a breakfast time when checking in (I think it's the first time I have to get a little breakfast card in the NYH). We'd gone for 7am of course, so just after 7 Cris and I were sitting for breakfast in the Manhattan restaurant. It was rather quiet, which was nice. Food was great as always (coffee as bad as I remembered it though). About 20 minutes    later our friends came down and we finished our breakfast together. We agreed to meet up at 8 in the lobby to go down to the park, but my husband and I ended up waiting for a while. And to be honest, I was not happy   ... The only time I'm happy to get up early is in Disney for the EMH, and here we were, missing them!!! Plus it wasn't looking particularly sunny, and after the extremely wet we'd had the previous day I really wanted some sunshine... So, between you and me, I confess I was fuming

But as soon as they came down, the kids all excited and happy, and we were on our way accross the Village, it all went away... The magic of Disney I guess  ;)  If only it could be so easy outside in the real world...

First destination, Fantasyland. They all went ahed while I booked a restaurant in City Hall for lunch. Cafe Mickey they told me was full, so I booked for the Lucky Nugget instead. We really wanted to have a character meal with the children. The little boy (just under two) was proving a bit too young to enjoy most of the rides, but he really liked the characters. And the little girl... well, so far she had only met Minnie, and was asking for more!

The Castle in the morning. No rain yet and even a (small) hint of blue skies!! Heaven....

When I caught up with everyone, they had just got into the Carousel.

I found out later than Ella really wanted to go on a horse, but her dad, since they also had the little boy, had prefered everyone to sit in a carriage. So she was trying to put up a brave face!! Little angel, she didn't complain at all.

We continued the morning with Peter Pan and Buzz Lightyear, before heading towards the Studios.

In the entrance, we met Stitch!! I was really excited, I had never had my picture taken with him...

It was not 10am yet but some of the rides were already open (the queue outside Crush was already growing) and we walked straight into Cars. Not my favourite ride (it's just not very confortable if you have long legs) but the theming is brilliant.

We had a bit of time before the first showing of Animagique at 11:00, so we tried the Studio Tram Tour. I knew that even after the long refurbishement not much had been done, but seriously, couldn't they at least fix this up a bit??

A tram was just arriving when we got there, so we thought it would be quick. How wrong we were....

They started loading the tram by bits, letting small groups of people in and directing them to specific carriages in the tram. Not the fastest possible way, really   Finally they let us in into the first carriage. My husband, together with his friend and his daughter, were seated in the first row, next to the CM. I had to sit in the one before last row (they left the last one empty). A bit annoyed that we couldn't all be together, and also that I was in the far right on the row (so away from the Canyon), but anyway....

Once we were all aboard, the tram started moving... only to stop just a few meters later, just outside of the station. And there we stayed for quite some time!! Extremely annoying. The only interesting bit was that we were next to the TSPL site. Not that you could see much, there's a lot of bamboo and plants now that hide it from view, but still... It's OK for a few minutes, not for about 15 minutes.

Terrible picture (we were actually still moving here), but you can just about see the Pixar ball!!

It was a ridiculous long wait (without any explanation), and it made us miss the start of Animagique. So not happy about that.

Eventually we were moving again, they started playing the video (they've edited it a bit so that it fits better with the new route), and we finally made it to Catastrophe Canyon. Some good news at last, the truck was looking great!! It really IS red!!

The earthquake was great, I really love that scene. Particularly when all the water comes down... It was then that, suddendly, I felt the water hitting me from behind    It took me a few moments to realise that the reason they'd left the last row empty is because the water comes straight through (so probably very wet and rather painful for anyone sitting there...) The water than then bounced off the wall behind, and hit us then... Should the water be doing that??

They have more then movie props in there... Isn't this the twin on the one in Fantasyland??

When we got out, Animagique had already started. So instead we went and joined the line to meet up with Mr Mouse

After that, since the children were tired (the little boy was already asleep), our friends went back to the hotel for a rest, while my husband and I stayed in the Studios for a bit longer.

Continues soon!

You were very good to keep your cool when your friends were late, but it is hard with little ones. I would have been the same as you tho'. When people have suggested we go as two families I have said I am happy to meet up but we have our own routine, they want to come with us, they have to keep up!-both hubby and I like to be everywhere early, so waiting on others would have driven me mad.
Ella was very good, I know lots of little girls who would have made their feelings elt at not being allowed to ride a horse!
So no explanation on the tram tours? very strange!
great photos as always :)

I was laughing at how upset you got at being kept waiting.....I am exactly the same. Its worse when you can see everyone else going into the parks and you are still waiting. I need to remember that the trip is meant to be for my son, although everyone knows its really for me
Great pictures and thanks for posting.

I knew you would understand  ;)  :)

We should have agreed to go ahead, and they could give us a call when they were in the park and we could meet up. And I know that with the children it's very different, normally I think I would have been a bit more patient. I was just so impatient to get into the park!! I'm a real kid, I know... But now you know, 33 is not too old for little tantrums

But lesson learned, next time, we leave at our time, and the others can meet up with us later. That way everyone's happy! We did that last year with my brother in law (that time actually it was the grown ups who wanted more time, the kids were ready so we took them with us, and their parents joined us later!)

Working on the next set of pictures, hope to have an update soon!!

And small update!

After our friends left, we headed straight for RnRC. As I've mentioned, my back was not feeling great (my neck really), but I really wanted to go on RnRC... Maybe not the wisest thing, but since it's not a really shaky ride (unlike Space Mountain, I did stay away from SM during the whole trip, just in case), I hoped I would be OK (and I was, by the way).

Hidden Mickey
(//http://images54.fotki.com/v459/photos/8/1582018/8108056/P6100256-vi.jpg)

And it was BRILLIANT  :D   . We were seated in the first row in the first train, nothing in front of us, it was incredible!! I thought I was going to loose my contact lenses, with all that wind in our face!! Brilliant. There was NO smoke whatsoever though (everything else was working great), but still, great great ride. Everyone should do it in the first row at least once...

And the only ride that can follow RnRC and not feel tame is, of course, the Tower of Terror...

He was still feeling the effects from RnRC.... :D
(//http://images12.fotki.com/v539/photos/8/1582018/8807518/P6100257-vi.jpg)

And as with any great Disney ride, the best thing about the Tower is the theming... I love it.

Tea anyone?

The ride was excellent, but this one really hurt  my neck  :(  I came out really feeling it, and a bit dizzy even  :? . Fortunately I only felt it after we got out (so it didn't spoil the ride!!), but after that I needed a small break... We had a bit of time before we had agreed to meet up with our friends for lunch, so we decided to go back to the hotel, so that I could have a little rest.

By the time we got back to the room my neck was already feeling a lot better (also my dear husband was carrying my bag for me, which helped), and after lying down for a few minutes, I was impatient to get going again... Plus, the sun was coming out!  :D/

So out we went...

When we were walking past Cafe Mickey, we noticed it did not seem that busy... We were surprised, since they'd told us it was fully booked until 4pm (it was just after 1:30), so we went in and asked if they could get us a table. Which they did!!! So while I stayed taking some pictures around the lake, my husband went back to the hotel to try and find our friends (we were supposed to meet up with them 30 minutes later).

Too windy for Tink to fly today....

I didn't have long, because Karen and the kids were just coming out (Paul was still resting, he wasn't feeling too good that day), and in no time the 5 of us we were all seated in Cafe Mickey!

It was excellent! The kids loved it. We had jus gotten to our table and Chip was already there, Ella was hugging him (and showing him her Minnie doll). Her brother wasn't far behind, taking Chip by the hand... Oh, it was magical. We saw Chip and Dale, Goofy, Mickey, Friar Tuck, Pluto and King John (who pretented to drink from the children's drink when they offered it to him)

We had a great time, personally one of my more memorable meals ever! The children were both so happy, and it was so much fun to see them playing and interacting with the characters. Loved it  :D Definitely one of the highlighs of the trip.

Next update coming soon!!

Brilliant pictures. The first time we went to DLRP last year it was Ben's reaction to the whole Cafe Mickey experience that made the trip for me. They do so well there and we have to go every time we visit. =D>

Oh, I would love to go on the Tower tour!!! You'll have to tell us all about it when you're back. It's annoying they only do it on Saturdays, maybe for our next trip we'll be there on a weekend...

Quote from: "never2old"So I don't know if I ever thank you, davewasbaloo, but it's because you recommended it so highly that we tried the Marriott for the first time last year, and it's been a real discovery! I always think of you when we book a stay there  :D

Anyway... I'll try to post the next part tomorrow, still sorting the many pictures!!
    Thank you. I am glad you like it.

Yes, the HNY is still probably the best value of the Disney hotels. I am grumpy because they used to have turn down service with the chocolates on the pillow, a fresh rose (or other seasonal flower) in the bathroom, 24 hour room service, and proper bell services when checking out. I know I sound like a spoilt kid, but when the prices go up and the services go down, that is sad. Also we paid extra expecting the 24 room service and proper bell services when I hurt my back and my kids were much smaller, that was the annoying part. But like all these things, it is not a problem if you do not know what is missing.

But the HNY is for DLP standards, a good choice. For a bar, I prefer the DLH, but the price for a night is steep.

It is such a shame-those little things make such a difference.
I know Davewasbaloo you were surprised when I said we had upgraded as the difference between HNY and NPB was so large. We'll have to see whether after this trip we can stretch to HNY or Marriot as it looks gorgeous :D

Sorry this TR is taking so long, work is pretty busy and when I get home I don't have much time either...

Here's a little update!

After lunch, Karen took the children back to the hotel (she also wanted to check on Paul), and Cris and I headed back to the park.

Home sweet home  :D
(//http://images9.fotki.com/v1604/photos/8/1582018/8807518/IMG_5448-vi.jpg)

The new show, the Showtime Spectacular, was happening. It was already half way through, and we only stayed to watch for a few minutes. The little I saw, I absolutely adored  :D  We were planning on seeing it later with everyone, but even so, I was really tempted to stay and watch more... At the end my husband had to drag me out towards Discoveryland, his fingers were itching to have a go on Buzz....

Buzz was great, practically no queue (I think we waited around 15 minutes only), plus Cris got once more the top score, 999.999, he was delighted... Me, nothing near that

By then it was almost time for the parade, Karen and the kids were back, so we went back to our spot in Fantasyland (this time, on the other side of the road), to wait for the parade.

The parade was once more great, even better than on the previous day since this time, there was no rain at all!! Plus with her Minnie ears Ella was getting a lot of attention, a few of the characters came to say hello or waved at her. She was delighted!!

The Dreams of Adventure float stopped closed to us, and Baloo and King Louie were dancing next to us.

And finally, Princess Tiana.

I love this little detail:

As I said we were planning on seeing the Disney Showtime Spectacular show later, but we still had some time. We decided to have a look around Fantasyland, and the Carousel was looking particularly quiet. And Ella still wanted to go on a horse...

Her smile says it all  :D
(//http://images116.fotki.com/v1596/photos/8/1582018/8807518/P6100280-vi.jpg)

And I hadn't been on earlier that morning, so I was quite happy too  ;)

We then went to the Castle, to see the dragon... I really love the dragon. It was resting when we got there, and then suddenly it woke up and roared, more than one (and not just the children) were surprised!! One of my favourite places in the park, I have to say...

Showtime Spectacular next!

Loving your trip report. Same thing happened to us with Cafe Mickey. I tried to book at the hotel for dinner and he said nothing available until 10pm, so I left it. As we were walking to the village/parks to get dinner somewhere else I noticed Cafe Mickey was really quiet and no queue at the front. It was 5.30pm. I asked if we could get a table and the CM sat us immediately and informed us that the characters come  out at 6.15. So the timing was perfect really. The kids had most of their dinner eaten by the time the characters started to come out.
I think they give a certain number of slots to each hotel and when they are booked then that's it. It 's always worth trying the cafe directly.

How can you remember such details of your trip? After the first 2 days my trip all started to blur together and we hadn't even gone home yet! I wouldn't be able to remember what ride we went on when or anything... I guess I could use the photos as prompts, but even then I didn't photograph every little thing we did, so I don't know!?

Thank you all for your comments  :D

Quote from: "fairymom"I think they give a certain number of slots to each hotel and when they are booked then that's it. It 's always worth trying the cafe directly

Ah, maybe that's how they do it... Good to know though! Next time we'll ask directly in Cafe Mickey  :D

Oh, and the pictures help with my memory!!  ;)

Apologies this is taking so long, things are very hectic lately, so I don't get much time to go through the pictures (still hundreds to review) and upload them for posting here...

So anyway, as I said, after the Carousel, it was time for the Showtime Spectacular!

We got there a few minutes before the start, and managed to get a spot in the first row, in  the left side.

And then, it started... And we loved it. What a great show!! When I'd first heard about it I was worried that it would be too long, with all those songs from all the different movies, but not at all. The dancers are great, the characters are everywhere, the music is perfect. What a brilliant show! Best thing about the New Generation Festival    (followed closely by Princess Tiana, and the lack of decorations in the Castle  ;) )

And talking of Tiana, my favourite bit of the show was the Princess and the Frog bit, at the end. Great energy, perfect music, just excellent!! Great work Disney    =D>

I will not post the many many many pictures I took here, but here are just a few (plus there will be more later...)

As you can see, the weather was not perfect, it got a bit dark, but apart from a couple of drops every now and then, at least it was dry...

After the show, Karen and the kids went back to the hotel (we agreed to meet up later for a drink in the hotel bar). My hubby and I headed to Frontierland, for another go on Phantom Manor, before heading towards Adventurelad (for another go on Pirates of course!)

Some pictures along the way:

We got out of POTC a bit before 19:00. My husband was getting tired, the park was about to close, but now the sun was out!! I wanted to stay, he didn't... So I told Cris to go ahead, back to the hotel, while I stayed behind for a bit more... Honestly, after a first day of almost constant rain, and a second day of on and off sun, I just couldn't leave now that the park was looking so gorgeous!!

So I stayed behind, admiring Adventureland with the sunlight (and yes, taking some pictures...)

A thousand apologies for the delays!! We're getting ready to move house in a couple of weeks, and it seems the list of things to do never ends! Yesterday we finally took a day off (we forced ourselves, really), and I finally had some time to work on the pictures from the trip... I didn't count but I had a few hundred    from the Showtime Spectacular alone...

So where was I?

So, end of our second day in Disneyland, everyone had gone back to the hotel, and since Showtime was starting again... I stayed to watch it a second time, this time facing the Castle. And if I could, I would have watched it a third time. This is really a great show!

Anyway, here are some pictures:

And for dinner, room service... I had the salmon club sandwhich, and a chocolate cake!! Delicious...

Finally got a bit of time!! We're moving house in exactly 1 week, so lately all our free time seems to revolve around that... Preparing the new house, packing the old one, and trips to Ikea!! So it's nice to take some time to relax, and go back to the happiest place on Earth... Well, on Europe anyway  ;)

So Friday 11th June! It was our last day; our friends left in the morning, so we had breakfast together and said our goodbyes. They had a good time, I think... In fact, they were already talking of coming back later in the year for Christmas!!   ;)  :D

By 8am we had checked out, left our bags in the car, and were ready to go to the park! It was a beautiful, gorgeous sunny day...

Around the hotel that morning:

Getting ready for the World Cup...

And in the Disney Village too...

And finally, into Disneyland!!

It was just after 8, and the park was pleasantly quiet...

I don't think I'll ever get tired of admiring our Castle...

First stop, Fantasyland.

Looking good!

We had a couple of goes on Peter Pan (can never resist no queues in there... had to do it twice!!), and a cruise in It's a Small World, where we were COMPLETELY alone!! (Since Dumbo was being refurbished, IASW was open instead)

See? No one behind us...
(Grumpy there was complaining that I was taking too many pictures, and that he wanted to go on Buzz instead of IASW...   )

And no one ahead!

It was a bit strange, feeling alone in there, but in a good way... Like the ride had been opened specially for us!!

After that, it was time for Discoveryland... To be continued!

Loving the trip report, I'm going to strive to take as many pictures as you when I go. However, I always get carried away and get lost in the disney-ness.

Good luck moving house! I did about a year ago.

Hope to read the rest soon :)

All your pictures came out really well aswell.

Thank you all for your comments  :D

I have to say, I hope we NEVER EVER have to move again... It's exhausting!! We're still surrounded by boxes, sometimes it feels like we will never be free of them, but at least the new place is in a half-decent condition... And I finally have some time to continue this report! I keep saying it, but apologies it's taking so long!

So... It's Friday 11th of June, our last day, and around 9am... After our visit to Fantasyland, it was time for Discoveryland and Buzz!! My back was not feeling 100% so I didn't want to risk serious injury in the Space Mountain, but Buzz, that's always OK...

We had a couple of goes, it's really great when you can walk straight into the ride...

Around Discoveryland:

I don't think I had ever noticed Buzz in the Constellations sign!

A bit after 9:30 we deciced to head towards the Studios, and try to do Crush Coaster before the queues got too long...

Looking quiet...

We were seeing Captain EO later that day!

Back then, only the "1" in Studio 1 was truly visible...

It was a good move to get to the Studios before 10am; there was a small queue in Crush, but nothing too serious... And they started letting people in around 9:50!!

Can any of you look at this and not start thinking "Mine! Mine!"??  ;)

We ended up queuing for about 15 minutes, and then we were off in the EAC!! It was really good fun, I can see why so many people enjoy this ride, it feels very different to other coasters. Though I have to say, and I hope it was because of my neck and back problems, but I had to sit down when we got out, and get my balance back...

We had a walk around the Studios, now fully open. As I said it was the first day with really nice weather, and everything was looking so beautiful!!

On the previous day I'd had a go on Tower of Terror and RnRC, and they were not great for my back... So this time we just took it easy, and enjoyed the park rather than the rides, before heading back to Disneyland Park...

This is one of my favourite pictures!

By now (about 10:30) we were both feeling a bit tired, and since we hadn't been there in a while, we decided to go for a break in the Salon Mickey.

The Salon Mickey entrance
(//http://images56.fotki.com/v714/photos/8/1582018/8084712/DSCF1408-vi.jpg)

I always like going there, it's nice and quiet, and so relaxing... We sat in a couple of comfy sofas, had a coffee, and a chocolate chip cookie... Yummy!!

After our break in Salon Mickey, it was time to go and do some of our favourite rides... BTM (fastpasses), Phantom Manor and Pirates  :D/  :D  We were having lunch at 12:00 in the Blue Lagoon (so that we'd be on time for our shareholders preview of Captain EO), so we had a little more than 1 hour left before then...

So we took our fastpasses for BTM, and while we waited for them, did POTC and PM. Perfect way to spend 1 hour!

Some pictures around Frontierland:

Thanks  :D

It was now 12:00, so time for lunch in the Blue Lagoon!

It's one of our favourite restaurants, but we hadn't been there in quite a while, so we were both quite excited about going back there...

One of my favourite things about the Blue Lagoon are the Marc Davis' drawings for the original POTC ride, they're really beautiful pieces of art...

We were seated quite quickly, which was a great change from other visits to the restaurants (we usually ended up waiting about 20-30 minutes, despite having booked our table...) Lesson learned: we'll always go for an early lunch rather than a late one in the Blue Lagoon!

We were seated in a table on the higher part of the restaurant, overlooking it all. Unfortunately the lamp right next to us was not working, and our table was even darker than usual... At least we had a candle!

The food was stunning. We had the Land and Sea dish, with an ostrich steak and half a lobster, delicious.

Plus we played our usual game in the Blue Lagoon (guess how many people doing POTC would call out "Bon Appetit"   ) and I won  :D/

Lunch was not only delicious but also relatively fast (another reason to try and go there earlier for lunch), we were out in just over one hour, so to help diggestion, we went for a walk around Adventure Isle. It's one of my favourite areas in the park, and when the sun is shining like that, it's really beautiful!

Unfortunately not everything was looking good... I really can't wait to see this refurbished next year!!

But enough of the negative...

And back to Frontierland... We had just enough time to go on Phantom Manor one last time, before the Captain EO shareholders' preview...

And Phantom Manor... Truly one of the best rides!!

After enjoying the ride, we had one last walk around Boot Hill. Which was looking better than during our last trip... But some tombstones could do with less vegetation around them (some of them were hardly visible!)

And finally, here it is... Final update!!!

After Phantom Manor, we made our way out towards the Pluto Desk, in the park entrance, to register for the shareholder's preview of Captain EO.

Along the way:

There was a small queue waiting, but (apart from the people who thought they were queing to buy park tickets) it moved quite smoothly. In a few minutes we have our names, and got a couple of white bracelets!!! They were plain ones though... It would have been nice to have some mention of Captain EO, Disneyland, or anything... Still, they served their purpose!

Back in the park, we slowly made our way towards Discoveryland

Honestly, with blue skies like that, I could spend hours taking pictures!!

Captain EO merchandise

Guests only!

And the queue outside Captain EO...

Which was not too pleasant. It was very hot and we were standing in the sun... Fortunately after a few minutes they opened the proper queue, so we were (well, some of us at least) better protected from the sun... And since we ended up waiting quite a bit (they did not start on time     ), we really appreciated it..

My dear hubby...

Merchandise on display inside, in the pre-show room

Again we ended up waiting quite a bit for the pre-show to start, and by the time they started playing the making-of featurette, we were really losing patience!!

Finally inside the theatre...

Honestly, is this the best my other half can do??

The movie was good, it was nice seeing it again, after all these years... Though I have to say it was never one of my favourites, and personally, I don't think it's aged very well... I guess I'm in a minority when I say I prefered HISTA...

The presentation and Q&A that followed wasn't great, unfortunately. We had a presentation of the NGF, but all the videos they showed I'd already seen before, and there wasn't any new information. Still, maybe next time they'll have a shareholders event and presentation and present to us something new??

After that, it was time to start making our way to the hotel and the car

Some last pictures around Discoveryland, looking good under the sun...

Said goodbye to the Castle

People were getting ready for the parade, but Cris would not let me stay to see it... He was eager to get back home as soon as possible

One final goodbye.

By now I was quite upset, I really hate leaving this place... Plus with the weather like that??? It was horrible. You understand it, right??

Football in the Disney Village
(//http://images19.fotki.com/v678/photos/8/1582018/8084712/DSCF1549-vi.jpg)

And finally, Panoramagique was up and running!! I did suggest we go on, but it was no no from my husband... Once he gets in "exit" mode, there's no stopping him!!

I can't believe it's taken me over 2 months to get this finished... Apologies!

Thank you for reading, as always it's a pleasure to share my trips with you!!

Thanks for a brilliant trip report   I noticed your hubby was smiling when it was Buzz time after IASW grumpiness   I would never even get my husband to go with me so I think yours did well. It's always a pleasure to look at your photos, they really help with getting in the mood for our trip in September.
