Title: Cars Quatre Roues Rallye (Now Open!)
Post by: Anthony on July 18, 2006, 07:18:02 PM

Cars Race Rally
NOW OPEN!

Opened 9th June 2007.

Note: The attraction will take its French name as its official in-park title.  In advertising and promotions Cars Race Rally will feature, but the official attraction name will be Cars Quatre Roues Rallye.

« Older news and discussion for this attraction can be found in the Toon Studio topic. (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=256)
With construction revving up, we started a new topic just for this attraction...

(//http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/d/6774-2/DSC01719.jpg) (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/d/6779-2/DSC01721.jpg) (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/d/6847-2/DSC00148.jpg) (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/v/waltdisneystudios/toon_studio/toon_studio_attractions/cars_race_rally/)

This is a teacups-style attraction based on Disney-Pixar's 2006 film, Cars.  Guests will board one of the autos and take a spin around the turntable.  As their vehicle reaches the link between the two turntables, their car veers off onto the opposite turntable and completes the figure-of-8 circuit.  There will be two turntables and the queue line will lead guests through well-known buildings from Radiator Springs including the car showroom.

The attraction uses the same ride system as two other Disney attractions: Francis' Lady Bug Boogie (//http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyland/en_US/parks/attractions/detail?name=FrancisLadyBugBoogieAttractionPage) at Disney's California Adventure and The Whirlpool (//http://www.tokyodisneyresort.co.jp/tds/english/7port/mermaid/atrc_pool.html) at Tokyo Disney Sea.

The big hole they dug for the foundations of the 4 turntables has now been covered in plastic.  Exciting, eh?

Photo posted by Grandmath on Disney Central Plaza forum.

Take a look at the digger in there - the hole is much bigger than it first looks!    It's also quite far over towards the current Animation Courtyard area, you can see now why moving Mickey's Trailer was so important.

Here's the logo "en français":

You can see a large version of the photo I posted above here: WDSFans.com (//http://www.photosmagiques.com/wdsfans/news/news.php#newsitemEEVFZZpZpyUSTOBxcW)

Any thoughts on this?  Or maybe about the point raptor brought up in the old topic - how the vehicles you ride in won't look like the Cars characters afterall, but just like generic classic automobiles..?

I was just searching the internet when I came across these photos of  Francis' Lady Bug Boogie at Disney's California Adventure that were taken a few days ago:

Does anyone think that it is possible that they will take this actual ride and put it in the Toon Studios with new decorations for Cars Race Rally?

No, they're constructing the ride in Italy while we are speaking .

Cars is also going to have 2 pairs of turntables, rather than just one, so they couldn't move DCA's version.

Looking at Lady Bug Boogie makes me realise just how lucky WDS is - Cars is going to have far better themeing and double capacity!  We did really well with this ride I think. (But maybe I'm bias because I love the film)

Any ideas on music for the ride?  The new version of "Route 66" would be cool for during the ride, and some of the Randy Newman instrumentals in the queue area.  Maybe they could copy other parks and do a fake "Radiator Springs Radio" music loop? :)

I wouldn't mind to hear some Route 66 related music when I'm on or around this ride.It has to be in line with the theme, there are actually many songs that could be played  8)

Like Crush's Coaster, Cars: Race Rally now has graphics to help promote the attraction. It's a bit basic and a montage of the movie's poster images really, but I guess it does it's job for a FAIRLY minor attraction:

Minor for Disney, major for DLRP - they should have done much better than this.  Doesn't tell you anything about the attraction at all, just ruins the poster.  At least the Crush one makes it obvious the style of attraction.

I guess that big black space is for the logo?  That's a bit unimaginative!

So far, it looks like every ounce of creativity for the 15th is going towards Once Upon a Dream Parade...

THIS (//http://images.rottentomatoes.com/images/movie/gallery/1156571/photo_55_hires.jpg) should have been their key visual.

Not only far better looking and more exciting, but tells you the setting and story of the attraction immeidately.  *Steals for dlrpmagic.com*

Edit: Or THIS (//http://images.rottentomatoes.com/images/movie/gallery/1156571/photo_63_hires.jpg), or THIS (//http://images.rottentomatoes.com/images/movie/gallery/1156571/photo_40_hires.jpg),  THIS (//http://images.rottentomatoes.com/images/movie/gallery/1156571/photo_53_hires.jpg) (with McQueen added).

I suppose we just have to hope that the key visuals will play a very minor role in the advertising.  The Buzz one was used quite a lot, but that was probably because it was well designed and could be used for lots of different things (from brochures to cardboard stands, t-shirts to park maps...).

Oh yeah, of course it is.  DLRP have been using these for years to promote new attractions, shows, etc.  So when I judge the artwork, I'm juding their marketing ability, not the attraction!

Come to think of it, why don't they just release concept art for the attractions?  I think that'd build more excitement than a photoshopped movie poster...

LOL, I'm sorry to say, but I'm sure Ant can confirm, these visuals are actually from DLRP... although interestingly the larger quality versions are not available for download for some reason.

Sorry if I'm getting the wrong end of the stick by defending how official these images are... I wouldn't have put it past DLRP to use Photoshop themselves sometimes  :?

Not sure where to post this, but I noticed if you add the logos onto the artworks they suddenly look much more "balanced" and almost like proper attraction posters:

I probably judged too soon... the Cars one is still a bit iffy, but I guess they'll do the job.

Not a great photo to show it, but I didn't know construction had progressed this far already:

Looks like the front of the queue line buildings is almost in place already... :D

The blueprints show you what shape the buildings will take: http://www.coasterforce.com/coasterphotos/tsmain2.jpg (http://www.coasterforce.com/coasterphotos/tsmain2.jpg) (AFAIK the Race Rally section of these plans is still a-ok)

Interesting new details come from http://www.wdsfans.com (http://www.wdsfans.com):

Quote from: "WDSfans"One attraction already benefitting from the Toon Studio project is surely Flying Carpets Over Agrabah, since a quick flight through the Genie's film set gives the only clear view of the far side of the expansion land, where the queue buildings for Cars Race Rally have recently risen at racecar speed.

Taking their designs from various memorable Radiator Springs establishments, the buildings will also apparently be soaked in a plethora of neon lights as they lead through to the race area in the "canyon", 1 metre below ground level. The ride itself remains a series of concrete foundations, but the ride and its vehicles are confirmed to be under construction in Italy as we speak. The attraction will therefore be different to Francis' Lady Bug Boogie at Disney's California Adventure, which is currently experiencing some serious technical problems. In addition to featuring twice as many vehicles, Cars Race Rally will also apparently be twice as fast as the Californian attraction.

Though not featuring Lightning McQueen, Doc Hudson or any of the other key Cars characters, the vehicles will certainly feature everything to suggest they are from the Cars universe (such as eyes, mouths, and so on). The use of more "generic" vehicles is likely to ensure they are all equal, with no need for guests to fight over their favourite characters. This also allows Lightning McQueen and Mater to instead be featured at the side of the Race Rally, cheering on guests and "posing" for pictures. European characters Guido and Luigi will also be featured near the attraction, posing for pictures at a meet 'n' greet location outside their shop.
Title:

Quotethe "canyon", 1 metre below ground level

I think this needs some more explanation.

WDS lacks a difference in height at the moment, so the Imagineers have opted for the actual ride platform to be one metre below ground level, forcing non-riding guests to look down to get a glimpse of the attraction.
Title:
Post by: Anthony on September 26, 2006, 04:01:31 PM
It's a brilliant brilliant decision.  I noticed a while ago that there seemed to be a level difference insinuated on the various concept art, so it's very very good to have this actually confirmed.  1 Metre isn't that much, but for WDS it's a big step forward.

Considering the actual "ride" section of Cars is so small, it's also cool to imagine just how much landscaping there will be!  In WDS terms, at least...

Yeah - apart from the nasty fonts and weird french/english mixture, that visual just doesn't tell you anything or make you get excited about anything.  All it shows is that the attraction is based on Cars... which the logo itself shows.  Is it actually an official poster?! :?

I'm starting to wonder - considering how DLRP is so ambiguously marketing this attraction so far (look back at the very vague creative text for more), will people who arrive in June 2007 be disappointed?

Quatre Roues Rallye is the official name for the attraction, the use of the English name has to be reduced to a minimum.

Really?  That's bad!  Can French people not guess at the words "race" and "rally"?  This is nearly as ugly as Armageddon: "Les Effets Speciaux" or Rock 'n' Roller Coaster "avec" Aerosmith.  French and English mixed isn't pretty.

Although, to contradict my moaning - "race rally" doesn't make sense since the attraction isn't a "race".  And the French have to endure "Crush's Coaster", so I guess we're even. 3 out of the 4 new attractions having English names (incl. Tower and Buzz) is pretty good.

To help with advertising, I guess.  People will react more to something if its in their language - same way Buzz was advertised using both a French and English name.

I think what raptor means is that "Cars Quatre Roues Rallye" should be the official title used above the attraction's entrance.  They'll probably translate it for the English park maps though, same way they translate attraction names like Indy and Pirates Beach yet their entrance signs are in French...

From WDSFans (//http://www.wdsfans.com):

QuoteThere has been a remarkable touch of progress at Cars Race Rally this week. Despite the ride system, vehicles and general attraction area still being a long way from ready, the first real signs of desert themeing have already arrived.

The brick wall we reported being built back in October was later given an extra layer of wire mesh and themed to a sandy desert rockface in a similar way to the rocks at Crush's Coaster. Now, before the ride itself or any real infrastructure (paths, etc.) arrives, the sandy canyon-side has been given a quick blast of warm ochre red paint.

Grandmath from Disney Central Plaza forum presents the first photos, which show not only how this red colour scheme bounces well off the blue of Crush, but also a large new block of formed concrete next to the attraction. The purpose of this is currently unknown and it does not appear on any plans. Therefore, it is likely to also be a part of the themeing work, perhaps as the base foundation for the further, much higher, canyon hills to be placed on this spot.
From Grandmath at DCP (//http://disneycentralplaza.aceboard.fr/931-3467-96493-35-Officiel-Toon-Studios-2007-dans-mois.htm):

It looks like a truckload of Wotsits exploded...

But seriously, that looks great.  I hate to constantly be heaping praise on everything to do with Toon Studio, but shrinking down a massive desert rock to such a small size could have looked stupid.  As it is, it looks pretty good.  Apparently they're the same people who did parts of Le Pays des Contes de Fées, so it's in good hands...

They planted the first tree today:

Great that it's a conifer so it won't look nasty in winter like the rest of the park's trees, but... it doesn't quite fit with the forced perspective of the rock.  Oh well.

Definitely - and it'll be nice for those guys over in California as an apology for the Rocket Rods fiasco.

Funny how many similarities there could be between WDS and DCA in the future though - Disney Animation, Tower of Terror, Hollywood Boulevard, and maybe: Soarin, a Cars attraction, Toy Story Mania, Mickey's Philharmagic, a nighttime spectacular (?).

I suppose apart from the budget not allowing WDS to get "Carsland", there's also the space issue - it'd never fit in the current Toon Studio area.  And also, there's the whole fact that Toon Studio is meant to provide more attractions for kids... so I'll try not to be too jealous.

The concept art seems to be done by the same person who did some of the WDS version...

Crush's Coaster is shaping up nicely. I love the rockwork, mural and palm trees in the queue area. On the other hand, I am little bit more worried about Cars. Personally, I think the ride verhicles look really ugly. Why do they only have 3 different kind of cars? Besides that, I really dislike the backside of the cars. Well, hopefully the theming will make up for it, but at the moment I am not really impressed.  :?

The cars aren't that ugly, it is true that the back seats are a bit weird but it's not because the cars are a bit ugly that the attraction will be bad.

It's surely because it's less expensive and 3 cars is better than 1 car.

Well, I think they are ugly. A matter of personal taste I guess? Besides, I never said that Cars is going to be bad. Although we shouldn't expect an e-ticket experience, I think it will be a lot of fun. But from an visual point of view, I hope that the themed surroundings will make up for the ugly ride vehicles, but I am sure it will.

So I should be happy that we didn't get just one version? This is Disney we are talking about. It's the details that make a Disney park stand out. They could, at least, have painted some of them in another color.

Quote from: "Maarten"So I should be happy that we didn't get just one version? This is Disney we are talking about. It's the details that make a Disney park stand out. They could, at least, have painted some of them in another color.
I doubt they only have 3 colours to save money.  They went to the expense of designing these detailed custom vehicles, so I'm sure they could have stretched to have more different colours.

I think they didn't because it would have thrown off the art design of the ride and just looked messy.  All the colours they've chosen here are more earthy and fit the desert landscape very well.  If they'd have gone with the colours on the resort map, it could have just looked tacky.  Same reason there are only so many colours of tea cups and not a full rainbow.

And overall, I'm not bothered that Cars is such a small ride.  This is a park with just one other attraction for kids (Flying Carpets) and just one permanent show for kids (Animagique).  Other than that, they may as well go home, the rest of the park isn't for them at all.

I'm glad the vehicles are a bit more abstract too, I think it makes the ride a lot more interesting to look at than if they'd been uber-realistic cars like the ones in the film.  More exciting for kids, too.  I can understand in personal taste people might not like them (I'm not exactly in love myself), but I totally understand why the Imagineers designed them like that.

And for us, we still have the nice gift of some awesome themeing.  This area is just so different to the rest of the park.  For Mad Hatter's Tea Party they have a glass roof and some plants - for Cars we're getting Route 66, a condensed Radiator Springs, a desert landscape and several life-size Cars characters.  So even if you don't like tea cups, you're going to be able to wander around and appreciate the themeing.  I've never done that at the Mad Hatter's (as good as it is).

And hey, if all my arguments fail - this was greenlit by John Lasseter. Nuff said.

By the way - this wasn't aimed at you Maarten, just a general argument why I think people shouldn't give the ride a hard time. :) I'm sure I'll be ignored by everyone anyway...

I'm liking the way this is shaping up. The cars look ok, although i must agree, a tad weird. Its obvious that the back is for adults and front is for kids. The back seats look very uncomfortable but I can't see it being an attraction the whole family can ride.

I can't wait to see more of the theming appear.

Sorry if someone has already asked the question, then I didn't see it ;)

I looked again at the concept arts and asked myself: Is it right that Cars Race Rally won't have a roof? So that you couldn't ride this attraction on rainy days?!
Title:
Post by: Anthony on March 06, 2007, 04:48:42 PM
Yes, there is no roof over the ride area itself (though the entire queue is covered).  But it'll still operate on wet days, of course.

There's no roof over Dumbo, Flying Carpets, Orbitron, etc and they're still very busy in the rain!

Will the cars-characters talk and move (animatronic) or are they just "statues"?

There have been rumours that Lightning and Mater will talk to the guests, but that's probably just a soundeffect.
Title:
Post by: Nala_84 on March 12, 2007, 03:22:04 PM
I know, we've already seen the cars where the people will sit in. Are they only "cars" or are there also some characters of the film?

And where will those talking Mater- and Lightning-animatronics be situated?
Title:
Post by: Whoknew? on March 12, 2007, 04:02:32 PM
Wasn't it already stated out that Lightning McQueen and Mater won't be animatronics. And I don't think LMQ or M will be on the turntables for the reason that they are standing some meters away at the entrance of the attraction, wich would kill the illusion, wouldn't it?
Title:
Post by: Kristof on March 12, 2007, 06:23:28 PM
Well, let me explain it once again...     Mater and Lightning will stand along the track, next to the turntables to encourage the guests.  They probably won't be animatronics, but likely "statues" like the Genie for the Flying Carpets.

Guido and Luigi will stand in front of their shop, as a photo location for guests.  These will be statues as well.

Edited: dlrp.fr reports progress in Cars Race Rally area;

Casa Della Tires is looking good with its Tire tower! (will the tire tower be turning ? )

The sign to Flo's V8 Cafe is put in but not completely ready as you can see it still has work to be done to it.

And last but certainly not least, the vehicles from Cars Race Rally have got sand bags in them which dlrp.fr report are to test the equivalent weight of a humans in the cars on the ride.

Wow, I like this shot in particular. I like the colorscheme of the Cars buildings, especially with the Tower looming in the background. Everything looks so Disney and has a quality feel over it. The Cars buildings are only facades, but they seem quite elaborate and detailed. Im not too worried about the Hollywood Studio Placemaking.

I wasnt that excited about this attraction seeing as its aimed at little kids. But, after seeing those pic, I cant wait, its bringing much needed themeing to the studios. Suddenly it feels like a Disney park!

QuoteThe Cars buildings are only facades, but they seem quite elaborate and detailed.

Just to point out that they won't  be just façades.  Each "building" will have its own interior theming.  Expect lots of props and posters inside from the different Radiator Springs stores.  I've seen posters for Ramone's Body Art Shop and the Doc Hudson articles on the walls and there will be even Fillmore's organic fuel props and an enormous Piston Cup.

And on a side note, "christmas" lights have been put up past weekend on the Tires tower, as can be seen near the end of the movie when Lightning McQueen spruces up the town.

And the telegraph poles are in place too! It looks very Route 66 now.

And also: http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/a ... C08740.jpg (http://www.photosmagiques.com/gallery/albums/toon_construction/DSC08740.jpg)

It's good to hear they've got those "christmas lights" up, and you can also see all the spaces reserved for neons, like on the Flo's Café sign.  This has some seriously brilliant themeing for a "tea cups" ride.  Imagine it all illuminated at night! :o

How big do you think those cars look? I'm wondering how I'd get in there and I'm average height. Is this going ot be a little person ride alone ride?
If you look at the man stood in the background and compare him to the cars, they look as though they are going to be a tight squeeze. But you cant really tell by a photo.....

The theming is amazing though. Theat whole area of WDS is going to look amazing. Hopefully it wont be long before everywhere else catches up

Will there be a new shop or restaurant of something behind the walls of the facades of the Cars attractions? Will there be a shop at the Nemo attraction?
Title:

No and... no.  :)

There might be a few selling carts, but there are no actual shops planned.

OK - I've got to be the slowest person here, but I still don't get this attraction.

Don't get me wrong, it looks cool and the theming is wonderful, but I still don't understand WHAT this attraction is.

My impression from looking at some of the original concept art that has been in various forums/sites is that it's purely another "Genie / Dumbo" style ride without leaving the ground - a roundabout?.

I'd love someone to tell me I'm missing some larger part to this?.

Thanks

Iain

A closer comparison would be the Tea Cups.  It spins you around on the ground. Not an e-ticket, but the theming is grand.  And as my son loves the tea cups and Cars, I think this will be a big hit for him (more than Crush Coaster or ToT)
Title:
Post by: Anthony on April 18, 2007, 03:33:31 PM
It's the same idea as Francis' Lady Bug Boogie at DCA:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnRoiJJZhuI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnRoiJJZhuI)

Tea cups, but when your car reaches the "join" between the two turntables it switches onto the opposite one to do a figure of eight.  I think it'll work better with four-seater spinning cars, like you're spinning out of control in the desert.

Cars Race Rally will have two pairs of turntables too, so it should seem a bit more "worthwhile".  And if not, the Radiator Springs area will be very cool to walk around.

DLRP.FR reports that the cars sign is set on:

It´s a big sign for the tower and I can expect how it will shine over the toon studios. :D

1)Cars RACE RALLY! How ironic when you see the cars movinging he he

2)Did I read somewhere that it  was to have 2 sets of turntables, or just two turn tables?

Welcome to the forum benjicool!

Wow, this video is great.  I'm really impressed with how it looks in motion, quite a realistic reproduction of skidding through the desert sand actually. :) It's nice that after tea cups, "ladybugs", Dumbos and flying carpets connected to metal poles and everything inbetween, we finally have a Disney fairground-style ride that makes sense.

Quote from: "tubbsy"It does look the same as Lady Bug boogie, doesnt it? Definately just two turn tables there
There are four in total, each pair with 6 cars for a total of 12.

Title:

I was hoping they would go round all four, to lengthen the ride. Still, with increased capacity, the que should be better

Post by: adamguy_6 on April 22, 2007, 09:54:23 AM
Am I being sad when I say that this actually looks fun!

Some people say it goes slow, but If you watch closely, on one turn you may just 'skid' a little bit. However quite unexpectedly the car may be doing a full 360 as it turns round again!

Looks pretty funkay to me, and a GOOD addition for those small kids who otherwise only have Flying over Agrabah and Animagique to entertain them.

I propose that from now on, no photos should be posted revealing backstage information, that regular guests can't see.  You can refer to the image by just posting an URL.  This is out of respect for the members that want to see everything themselves when the ride opens (including me).  :)

It looks great indeed. Last year I posted a pic of a "Welcome to Radiator Springs"-sign, and I said I hoped to see something like that some day. Guess what, its exactly the same! Awesome stuff!  :)

By the way, I hope they will install some filming equipment like at Backlot. At this very moment Toon Studio looks like the most beautiful part of the park, but I do miss the studio/filming aspect of it. Well, its just a small detail, but hopefully they will add some studio lamps, camera's etc. Then its completely finished in my humble opinion.

Yes, the life-size versions of Lightning and Mater will be permanently positioned at the edge of the canyon to cheer on guests, and "pose" for photos of course. Just to the left of the attraction entrance.

Do they still drive out at both MGM and DCA?  I'm wondering if these have been shipped across, they look exactly the same.  Shame all these backstage photos keep on being posted though, spoils the excitement come 9th June...

Title:

Quote from: "first page of topic"Note: The attraction will take its French name as its official in-park title. In advertising and promotions Cars Race Rally will feature, but the official attraction name will be Cars Quatre Roues Rallye.
Even the english guide maps say "Quatre Roues Rallye", it's only in promotions outside the park you'll hear Race Rally. I much prefer the french now actually, we don't have another attraction beginning with 'Q'. :)

And humbug83 I don't know what you mean with a "preview video".

Have to admit, I looked at the photos.  Luigi and Guido look perfect, like they've been copied and pasted right out of the film.

Lightning McQueen and Mater aren't where we (or I) expected them to be... I bet everyone moans about not being able to get their picture taken with them now.

Btw, in non-construction-worker-photo news, it looks like the details just keep on coming.  A new banner just appeared on the entrance building:

I think it says "Welcome Travellers" with the Route 66 symbol.  Pretty cool. :)

They should have made the cars bigger, i know the ride is really ment to be for children but what about the younger ones who need an adult to ride with them and us big kids who want to ride it? There doesn't seem to be much room for your legs and it might not be such a great experience being cramped in and having your knee's squashed against the side.  :?

Can adults alone ride Cars Race Rally, or can you only ride it if you have kids? What if you're a single-rider adult, can you still ride?

The ride vehicles look very tight, tighter than the tea cups. But are they really that bad? I can't imagine Disney would build a new ride that only short/skinny adults can fit into.
Title:
Post by: tubbsy on May 22, 2007, 06:19:35 PM
I think it will be fine to ride, it'll just take some working out who sits where!

When we go on it will probably me with littlun as I'ma bit,...um ....podgier than my better half. He can sit with the skinny, leggy twelve year old!  It wont be confortable but its only for a few minutes.

I am sad though that you cant stand with Lightning and Mater for Photos-I guess they're on the side "shouting encouragement.."

I think this will be a huge problem for the cast members working on this ride. Guest might want to take pictures of the cars and the only possibility is when you exit the attraction. I guess this will slow down the exit procedures.

Post by: TowMater on May 24, 2007, 09:18:20 PM
This is what I think about the ride even though I haven't been on it.

Radiator Springs: Really good, I like the way they did the Leaning Tower of Tires and the "Tow Mater" sign but it would be better if they had The Cozy Cone Motel with Sally in front of it.

Queue Area: I haven't had a video of it yet only pictures and I like the way they did the Piston Cup and Lightning's and Mater's posters.

Ride Itself: I've seen a few videos of test runs and I am getting excited already when I go back there in 2008 at Christmas, I am disapointed that Lightning and Mater doesn't move eyes or move their mouths, I know they're models but I expected them to be better than now.

Characters: I wasen't very happy about Lightning and Mater, I also wanted to take a picture of me with them but I still do at MGM.

Luigi and Guido looks great but if only it could be more better if they made Sally, Doc, Flo, Ramone and Sheriff that will be great!

Must admit, the themeing of the ride (looking at the pics) does look up to the usual disney standard, and as per usual the park's managed to put in the odd pun here and there. I'm also a little dissapointed that the car's eyes don't move - that would have been real fun!

But all the same, I'm looking forward to riding it on my summer visit. Just a shame tower of terror won't be open, will have to wait til 2008 :(.

"Lightning McQueen here!!"

Are they being serious?!  *I* could do a better impression of Owen Wilson than him! They should have done Mater in English, I'm sure Larry the Cable Guy isn't very expensive.  Apart from that it looks like such good fun, I love the music.

And personally I'm glad they put Lightning and Mater where nobody can get to them.  Remember how messed up Nemo used to get at the old photolocation by Studio Tram Tour?  Imagine what would happen to these if they let the public near them.  They can't have a CM with them 24/7 like when they do brief 'meet n greets' at MGM.

They do look a bit silly sat there motionless with the audio playing, but it's no different to the Genie at Flying Carpets. Moving eyes and mouths would have been a bit ambitious.

I'd also ike to add that, from what I've seen, Cars Race Rally seems to be a great attraction. In some ways it actually impresses me more than Crush's Coaster, since I wasn't expecting much from it. The quality of the queue area, the themeing, the audio, the props is all first class. It's definitely a step up from the Mad Hatter's Tea Party.

It's surely the most lavishly themed Zamperla Demolition Derby ride in the World. But it's funny, I wonder what the ratio was of money spent on the ride system compared to the themeing? 1:100? Afterall, the Demolotion Derby is a small fairground ride, so it can't be particuarly expensive on it's own.

The ride was open today for regular guests!  We did it twice on a row.  It's really lots of fun.  The other vehicles come very close to yours.  The music is also very entertaining, if I'm not mistaken, it's the music from the cow tipping scene?

Oh and about the size of the vehicles, they are indeed on the small size, but we managed fine.  Each row can only hold one adult and one child.  When your only with adults, it's one adult on each row.  :)

Great video. The attraction seems to be very high quality. The only thing that bugs me is, since they have 2 figure-of-eight turntables, why couldn't they join them all up? Joining them all up would mean that your car travels across 4 turntables, instead of just 2. In my opinion, this would create an even better ride.

Would it have bee possible to link all four turn tables together? It would have been really cool if they had, but I am looking forward to going on it anyway.

I was wondering if the ride was kept short to aviod REALLY REALLY UNBEARABLY LONG queues instead of just REALLY REALLY long queues!

I'd hoped they'd do this when we first heard the plans too, it would have certainly added a bit more depth to the ride.  But although it sounds simple enough for us to just say "couldn't they join them up?", we don't know the ride mechanics - it might have been too complicated/too expensive to do it.  If it was a choice between this and the detailed themeing, I think they made the right choice.  We should be glad they gave us a 2 pairs at least, rather than the single version at TDS and DCA.

And raptor's video is without doubt the most hilarious on-ride I've ever seen! Do you know some of the people in another car, or were they just really really enjoying it? lol

Post by: Gillburt on June 01, 2007, 08:08:20 PM
Well, just got back from a fab trip to DLRP and we got to try the new cars ride on Wednesday (30th May)

OK, so it's aimed at kids... but it's still great fun for grown ups.

The figure of 8 across two turntables creates some great "are we going to crash" moments and the little ones just scream in delight.

It lasts just long enough for the kids to want to go again, the grown ups not to feel too sick and, if you're mechanically minded, to be really impressed on how the ride works.

Well done Disney - another great ride, superb attention to detail!

Some fun facts from a DLRP press release:

» This is first Disney park attraction based on the Disney•Pixar film, Cars.

» Guests will first see Luigi & Guido in front of the attraction. This is the first time these characters have been created in three-dimensions in a Disney Park.

» The Piston Cup will be on display in the middle of the rotunda, as guests enter. It is 25" high and 20" wide and gold plated.

» Guest will be immersed in Radiator Springs, created with dimensional movie sets that replicate the store fronts, shops, and neon signs of the little town off Route 66. They will see Flo's V-8 Cafe, Luigi's Casa Della Tires, and Ramone's House of Body Art.

» There are 12 ride vehicles (some red, some blue and some aqua), whose design is inspired by the automobiles in Cars. The vehicles represent a new character created specifically for this attraction with the help of the Disney•Pixar – Cars design team.

» It took one year to design, sculpt and produce the Cars Race Rally ride vehicles.

» The setting of the attraction is Radiator Springs, just after the end of the film, Cars.

» A visitor's center, sponsored by the Radiator Springs Chamber of Commerce has been set up to welcome travelers to Lightning McQueen's Racing Headquarters and to show off the businesses and leading citizens of the town.

» In English, Mater, the tow truck, says his name is "Mater, like ta-mater without the "ta". In French, since his joke would not translate, he says his name is "Martin. Like Aston Martin without the Aston.

» The music played during the Cars Quatre Roues Rallye is from two songs by Randy Newman featured in the film Cars – "Best Backward Driver" and "Doc Racing." The songs were newly orchestrated for the ride by Jonathan Sacks.

» Clips from over 15 songs associated with cars, traveling or road adventures are played in the queue area for the attraction, including three that were featured in the film Cars – "Real Gone" sung by Sheryl Crow, "Life Is A Highway" performed by Rascal Flatts, and "Route 66" sung by Chuck Berry.

» Cars won the 2007 Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Film and was nominated for Best Animated Feature Film for the 2007 Academy Awards®. Randy Newman's song "Our Town" was nominated for an Oscar® for Original Song and won the 2007 Grammy® Award for Best Song.

I am actually looking forward to seeing the theming around the ride more than actually riding it. The thing is, it does its job. Before the new rides the park really lacked rides for children and with this new addition it can finally start to accomodate lower age groups as well as older people as well.

Hope this is sorted out out for our visit, we'll be so gutted if we can't have our pic with Luigi & Guido, Luigi is my personal Fave.  My next door neighbour has Fiat 500, it's red but i'm still so jealous!

Well, if people are going to climb on it then yes, you do need a sign :P But I agree, some poeple need to think before they act. I hope the fence is taken away eventually - It doesn't really make sense. Hot set? :?

Now about Luigi and Guido....

Why do these people bother spoiling the fun for others, On friday they smashed my car windows & Had a fight on my block and now careless people did this! I was also looking foward to have my picture taken with Luigi and Guido, Also Luigi and Guido has feelings too just like us.

No wonder they put Lighting and Mater away from rude guests!

That is such a disappointment, it is going to upset so many people's holidays

I think that they need to add a proper fence there if they want to block it off, not a fence that ruins the atmosphere of the area, one that subtlety blocks it off so that people can still get pictures taken in front of them.

Well this fence is old anyway, it's been used time and time again, as an Armageddon spill out queue, as a border around part of frontlot.  This is wds temporary way to cornering off an area.  I'm sure eventually it will get a perminant fence eventually.  But I don't really mind so much about this fence, I doubt it will ruins anyone's holidays, at least idiots can't climb all over it like they did the enchanted fantasy stage at New Year and many other things the public like to climb over in dlrp  .

I dont think they look TOO bad, but a more attractive and permanent solution needs to be put in place, you will never stop little kids climbing on things without a physical barrier. Even a rope or similar would look better though.

Indeed. In my opinion it's only a good sign that Disney wants to protect its theming in the parks. It's a pity that many guests still don't understand the rules or want to understand them.

Whaha I know but it's crazy they must think before they do something. They knew this was gonna happening. But it looks so cheap I think.  The protection for Mater en Lightning Mqueen is even worse then Luigi and Guido . Because Mater en Lightning Mqueen are in the attraction.

I agree, even though I haven't been there to see them for myself, the photos on photos magiques make it obvious that the yellow signs aren't particularly attractive. However, it is protecting brand new props!

It's a same, in reference to the picture, that people just ignore the notices which the park place. Shame!

Hey there,

just wanted to ask whether those ugly "Hot Set" fences are still in front of Luigi/Guido and Lightning/Mater?!

Or is it also possible to get a nice pic of them with those fences?! I guess you'll be too close then? :(
Hope somebody knows ;)
Title:
Post by: Kristof on August 21, 2007, 01:26:43 PM
The reason why the fences are there is because people go stand in front of it to get photos (lighting and mater).  The attraction platform has to be empty as fast as possible to reduce the queue lines.

Yes, the fences were still in place yesterday. And yes, some people were still ignoring them, climbing over Luigi and Guido... I noticed scratches on those two, such a shame some people have so little respect.

I don't think you can take a good pic without the fences being in the picture. Indeed, you will be way too close to the cars otherwise. But, in my opinion, the picture still looks okay, even with the barrier...

That doesn't sound very reasonable to me... I thought it was because some people climbed onto the cars? Weren't they made for that people could stand in front of them to get a picture with them?!   :?

I think they should just put a CM there who controls the scenery, like there are always CMs there when characters are out... I think those fences just destroy the scenerey though... :(

Nala, I was talking about lighting and mcqueen. (I edited my message when you were writing yours I think).  The ones at Luigi and Guido are indeed because people climb on them and because they were very very very expensive.

Ah okay, sorry, I really didn't see your Lightning/Mater edit ;)!

Well, I can really understand them to protect them after what has happened and I believe they're very expensive :(! But hopefully they soon find another possibility to protect them, so that "normal & nice" fans like we are can enjoy the cars without the fences :)

Im certain that if i saw people ignoring the barriers and climbing on them i'd politely   inform them to get off!!! But seriously some people have no manners and treat the park as theres to roam without restriction. I don't think a CM would/should be put there to totally warn people away, perhaps relabelling the signs with something like "keep off" rather then "hot set" may help if indeed these barriers are permanent?
Title:
Post by: Nala_84 on September 06, 2007, 11:27:31 AM
"Keep off" - that sounds pretty unfriendly, don't you think?

I can understand they want to protect those expensive statues, but why shall friendly fans (as we all here are I think) be punished because of others' failures?! Why can't I take a picture together with Luigi and Guido? A CM could stand there and a little cue line so he could control that people won't climb on the cars (and I'm sure they wouldn't do if a CM would stand there!)...

Yer I guess it does sound a bit unfriendly but these people are being unfair and rude by climbing on them in the first place, I was just saying maybe some people think the barriers are just there for show and are unaware of the fact they aren't allowed to climb on them?

Sorry if anyone complains to me after this post...

DLRP has no cast members with characters, This is why Luigi, Guido, McQueen & Mater are still fenced off.
The crowd for WDW is long queues while in DLRP is just letting the characters being mobbed by kids and others who loved them, Seriously, They should remove the fenceing and have an cast member with Luigi and Guido so it will be long queues, This post was only my idea of getting the characters meeting the guests again.
