Title: [Retro gaming] Castle of Illusion (Sega Mega Drive)
Post by: Remco K. on January 30, 2008, 01:28:56 PM
I don't know if this is the right sub-forum for this topic, bit it seems the most matching (Disney Interactive games can be discussed here). If not, feel free to move this post to a more fitting area (no, not the garbage bin! ;)).

So, here we are, back to the early nineties. Sega and Nintendo domesticate the market with their home consoles. Sega with their Mega Drive and Nintendo has the Super NES.

Many Disney games made their way to both consoles. Some brilliant, others boring.

One of the first Disney games to arrive on the Sega Mega Drive (Sega Genesis in the United States), was Castle of Illusion, starring Mickey Mouse.

Minnie Mouse is kidnapped by the witch Mizrabel, who takes Minnie to the castle of illusion. Logically, Mickey will go after them to safe Minnie out of the witch's hands.

When entering the castle, Mickey is faced with a number of doors. Each door leads to a magical land. The levels of this game have varying themes, like a forest, a large candy factory, a toy factory and many more.

Enemies can be defeated by jumping on them or by throwing apples at them. Icons can be collected to get some extra bonus points, increase health level or to get extra lives.

Castle of Illusion was also released for Sega's less advanced, but still awesome Master System and it's hand held, Game Gear.

:D I loooove this game, although I have to say I prefer Mickey and Donald's World of Illusion. The 2-Player game on that is so much fun.

:P I still have my Mega Drive and a bunch of Disney games. In fact, I bought Pinocchio just the other day. I'm gonna play on it next time I get my Sega out.

NOOO! That game was so much more advanced im my memory! I was thinking about it the other day, and I remeber it being so much more detailed than it was he he.

I used to love a Donald Duck game on the hand held Sega. Never understood why it wasnt more popular, It was closer to the PSP than a gameboy, and ten years beofre the PSP. Why the public favoured the gameboy is beyond me

Well, there are a few things I can think of. Nintendo's position in the market was stronger. The Gameboy's batteries lasted longer (and it needed less batteries).

But it's probably also Tetris which made the Gameboy so amazingly popular.
